While the Mauna Loa eruption continues to create a fiery show, Hawaiian Volcano Observatory officials say the lava’s advance is no longer threatening Daniel K. Inouye Highway.

“While the eruption continues out of Fissure 3 — the current reactive fissure — the supply from Fissure 3 down to the flow front has been cut off,” HVO Scientist David Phillips said, in a Thursday morning news conference.
