After more than 3 years, COVID-19 is no longer classified as a pandemic. Federal and state leaders have declared today the end of the public health emergency. This afternoon, Gov. Josh Green and Department of Health administration applauded Hawaii's response. Green says that when the emergency first started in January 2020, officials projected nearly 4,500 people would die from the virus annually. To date, the state saw far less than that, with 1,800 COVID-related deaths and a 78% vaccination rate — both among the best in the nation.
