As hope is more than optimism and is focused on a choice to look at a person, the same goes for joy. 

The joy that we get to experience as a result of Jesus' birth focuses on the power that comes from God and not the varying uncomfortable situations that we may face in our lives; that is why we can walk in joy even if it looks like we are still going through the "wilderness"
