Anaia believes in the power of a pivot table created for the public good. For over seven years, she led community development and strategic planning initiatives for local governments and national non-profit organizations. Anaia is the principal of Grounded CIvics, a strategic planning consultancy, focused on demystifying the public space for companies and organizations committed to equitable community development. Grounded Civics offers strategies, philanthropic advisement, and placemaking initiatives based on an asset-based perspective about communities, its residents, its stakeholders, and its businesses.
In addition to her background in community development, Anaia speaks Spanish and Portuguese and enjoys volunteering with United Way of the National Capital Area and the Abramson Memorial Scholarship Fund. Anaia holds a BA in English Literature and Spanish Language & Linguistics from Spelman College.
