TLDR: I'm looking for a well fitting hard case for my P bass that doesn't need to have particularly high impact protection. I'm more worried about getting a loose fitting case where the bass moves around, causing strings to erode the fretboard/pickups/etc.

The official Fender cases claim to fit both the P and J bass, so I'm guessing that with the difference in neck width they surely can't be as snug as a case specifically designed for only one of the...
