Edwin Barker, longtime principle of the BSO, has just released a recording of Bach's 5th Suite and the Weinberg Sonata for solo bass. There's something amazing about hearing a player who has deeply engaged with Bach for a half century and who has the gravitas and and strength of tone of a great orchestral player play this. No cello sounds that deep!
