Hey everybody.

I’ve had a problem with two basses of mine for a while now and I can’t seem to figure out what’s going on from my fiddling around and research.

The problem is this:

Both 4-string instruments have a very pronounced 5th overtone all along the low E string. Especially louder between like 3rd and 7th fret. I can very audibly hear a major 3rd (or 10th) sound when I am playing, enough so to distract me. Even in the contexts of playing live and recording.
