The NFL has a lot on their plate recently. Whether it be Antonio Brown, or fighting against systemic racism. The league has put forward an idea that players can honor victims of systemic racism with decals to be worn on helmets. The league is trying to right their wrongs, and this a good start. With training camp right around the corner, the NFLPA and NFL are working on finalizing a deal for health and safety protocols as well as fixing the economic issues arising from the Covid pandemic. Among those protocols is the testing system. It sounds great but is it really expected for a season to occur in 2020. With the NFL, unlike other sports leagues, they have a larger amount of athletes, which can raise the probability of someone getting Covid-19 and can make the virus spread like wild fire. Some teams, like the Vikings are thinking of initiatives on how to control the spread of Covid-19 at their facilities. Sounds good, but also sounds like a prison from a movie on the syfy channel.

Players prepare to arrive to training camp, but NFL hasn't done their part to make the players feel safe. After announcing when the players are expected to arrive for training camp, players voiced their concerns about the ongoing health and safety protocols that have yet to be agreed upon. Things that were agreed upon were some contracts given to some key pieces of football teams, but not all players get a happy ending. Dak Prescott and the Cowboys were unable to get a deal done, which may mark the beginning of the end of the Dak era in Big D. Dan Snyder was in the headlines early last week for announcing a name change to the Washington franchise. By the end of the week, there was a new headline for the Washington football franchise, which included an article from the Washington Post citing sexual harassment. Unfortunately, this wasn't the first time a problem regarding the culture of the franchise has come up, so we will follow this story very closely as this is an ongoing investigation. Even if Dan Snyder didn't know what was happening, it is his responsibility to ensure a safe culture for his employees.

Outside of the changes to some comics and getting our nerd on, many changes are coming to the NFL. A change, that many felt would never happen. The change of the name and logo of the football franchise in Washington DC. The "Redskins" name has been retired and now lets speculate on what the new name of the team could possible be. Changes to QB ratings in Madden, which Mahomes apparently doesn't have the strongest arm in football. Changes, or possible changes to the running back position in San Francisco after Raheem Mostert demanded a trade, adding to the list of players demanding trades. We have a new face of the NFL and that is the $503 Million Dollar Man, Patrick Mahomes. After winning an NFL MVP in his first season as a starter, and a Superbowl ring and superbowl MVP, the man got paid. How many more MVPs does Mahomes have in him? How many rings? The sky is the limit for this young 24 year old. The largest contract in sports history now belonging to Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes has sold the Chiefs on his ability, but on draft day in 2017, not everyone was sold. We have probably one of the worst takes ever from USA Today from when Mahomes was draft, and it did not age well at all. Also we have some more trade demands and possible adjustments to the 2020 season.

We are living in the times of change. Much needed change, and the "franchise" in Washington DC has made some changes of their own. Washington announced that they will be removing their former owner from Half of Rings and essentially removing the found of the franchise from the history books. While that is all fine and dandy, the problem still looms about their team name, which has yet to be changed. When push comes to shove, you almost assume a change will come. Malcom Jenkins speaks out on race in the NFL and Drew Brees as well as his Covid concerns. Jenkins feels that Covid would need to be "really be eliminated" in order for him to return back to the playing field. Ezekiel Elliott feels the same way as I am sure many players do. With the NFL finally feeling effects of Covid after canceling the Hall of Fame Game and ceremony, reality starts to settle in. Will there even be a season? All we can do is hope at this point. Training camp wont be delayed, but the start of the season can be. How will the 49ers adjust to the potential loss for the begin of the season? Speaking of a loss, where has Jerry Jones gone? Yes, the owner of the Cowboys Jerry Jones has gone silent in recent weeks, when before you couldn't get the man to stay quiet. Funny how that works. With the world standing together and with social change at the forefront, one of the most vocal owners is now silent. I guess if he doesn't have anything good to say, why say it? Jamal Adams on the other hand had tons to say about his soon to be former team, the New York Jets. After failing to come to agreement on a contract extension, one that he truly deserves, Adams has now requested a trade. Where will he end up? Adams isn't the only player wondering where he will end up. Colin Kaepernick has been in discussion as of late. Will he get a call for training camp? If so, who would dare to call Kaep? In the wake of the death of George Floyd and countless others, protesters have taken to the streets to protest police brutality. In the wake of all of these events, tempers are high and NFL athletes are speaking out on the movement. Everyone has the right to their own opinion, that includes Drew Brees, who spoke out stating "I would never agree with disrespecting the flag" in response to protesting in the form of kneeling, like Kaepernick did years ago to protest police brutality. In a time that we need to come together, there is still misunderstanding and such a big division. We need to understand that yes, kneeling during the anthem could be viewed to some as disrespecting the flag, but those same people fighting for the flag, must also join the fight against police brutality. To address the action and not focus on the message, leaves no room for progress. Ant Julz and myself, read into Drew's words and express our disappointment and shed some light on what the true battle is. Ever since the 26th overall pick of the 2020 NFL draft, everyone has been waiting for Aaron Rodgers to speak out. Man have spoken for him, but we needed to hear it from him. Well it finally happend. Rodger speaks for the first time since the Green Bay Packers draft Jordan Love with that 1st round pick, and maybe some truth was said after all about how Rodgers felt. In other news, NFL is reopening their facilities on May 19, signaling the attempt to get back on track. Ill outline the restrictions and rules that teams must follow. The thing to take from this is, that its a start. With things resuming and hopefully getting back to normal, we can start to look ahead to the 2020 regular season, since the schedules were released last week. This week we will look at the Dallas Cowboys, who have been the talk of the offseason, for one reason or another. As in their 2020 schedule, have to deal with, what only 2 teams ever have had have to deal with, The Bird Gauntlet. The Cowboys will have to face off against all five bird teams in a single season, which is a task that could make or break their playoff hopes.
