Matthew Layton presents Studio 1 – Vision Australia Radio’s weekly look at life from a low vision and blind point of view.

This week…

On Sunday, 28th June, Audio Description finally became available on Australian free-to-air broadcast television, making some great Australian public service broadcasting content more accessible to people living with a vision impairment.

The first such great piece of content is a documentary series called “Who Gets To Stay in Australia?”

Matthew talks the Executive Producer of said series, Ben Ulm

And why did it take so long to get audio description onto Australian television? And is it here to stay?

We discuss the past, present and future of AD with SBS’s Michael Coonan and Blind Citizens Australia’s Sally Aurisch.

If you’d like to get in touch with the show with your review of “Who Gets to Stay in Australia?” or if you’ve got something to say about the length of time it took to get Audio Description onto Australian television, please do get in touch
