Matthew Layton presents Studio 1 – Vision Australia’s weekly look at life in Australia from a low vision and blind point of view.
This week Matthew gets a lesson in how to be a professional broadcaster from Nas Campanella.
You know Nas from her bulletins on Triple J and from her reports on the Disability Royal Commission for ABC Television, but what you may not know is that Nas is blind.
In spite of her vision impairment, Nas is at the top of her profession, but 76% of adults who are low vision or blind are not currently in full time employment.
Matthew talks to Studio 1’s official emotional guru, registered counsellor Tammey Candeloro, about the effect that long-term unemployment can have on the mental health of people with a vision impairment.
And, in the search for a solution, Matthew talks to Vision Australia’s General Manager Client Services, Karen Knight, about her career, and her work helping Vision Australia’s blind and low vision clients into employment.

On next week’s show:
How will pandemic-induced self-isolation affect people living with low vision and blindness - a section of society, one could argue, that are isolated enough already.
