Tony Kono began his career in communications as a Senior publicist and marketing executive with experience developing integrated, proactive media communications programs building on a previous career in financial journalism. As a child, his grandmother sent him to an environmental camp where he learned about estuaries and ecosystems, which sparked his lifelong interest in the environment.
After Superstorm Sandy, Tony reached out to the Mayor of Brick, NJ, John Ducey, to ask how he could help, resulting in his appointment to the Environmental Commission. Tony and his team have had numerous accomplishments within his community, including the βPick Up Brickβ events for school and scout groups, partnering with local NGOs like Clean Ocean Action on Beach Sweeps, Save Barnegat Bay, and of utmost importance, Tony organized his community to save 30 acres of woods from being destroyed for a high-end housing development.
What's next? Stay tuned... Tony and his team are looking at becoming a hub for Community Solar development to vastly expand support to low-income and seniors by reducing the cost of their electricity bills.
