We have to contemplate the great love that God has for the Jewish people, and that can possibly arou se our love towards the Jewish people . The Midrash says in Vayikra Raba ( 24, 8) on the pasuk V’Hitkadashtem, VHayitem Kedoshim Be holy and you’ll be holy- There are two words of Kedusha- be holy , and become holy The commentaries explain that it’s compared to people of a certain country, who make three crowns for their king. The king put s one crown on his own head, and he put s two crowns on his son ’s head, because he loves his son so much. So to o with God and the Jewish people. Every day , the angel s say Kadosh, kadosh kadosh… What does God do ? He puts one on His head, and two on the head of the Jewish people. That’s why this pasuk has 2 words of Kedusha, because God gives the Jewish people a double dose of the three crowns. God gets one of the three Kadosh, and He g ives two to His beloved children. In the words of the Midrash Tehilim, Moshe Rabbenu says in Devarim (7,6) כִּ֣י עַ֤ם קָדוֹשׁ֙ אַתָּ֔ה לַיהֹוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ בְּךָ֞ בָּחַ֣ר ׀ Your holy nation, to Hashem your God,God chose you – It says you in singular, not plural. One Jewish person is more dear to God than all the nations of the world. And so says Yeshaya HaNavi (40,17) כׇּל־הַגּוֹיִ֖ם כְּאַ֣יִן נֶגְדּ֑וֹ מֵאֶ֥פֶס וָתֹ֖הוּ נֶחְשְׁבוּ־לֽוֹ All the goyim are like nothing in front of Him, to emptiness and nothing they are considered to Him. We cannot fathom Hashem’s love for the Jewish people. Therefore, just like one could look at a person and say, I might not love him , but he has a mother that loves him … This is true about every Jewish person. But it’s not just that he has a mother that loves him, he has a G od in heaven that loves him . In case you’re thinking of someone saying, “ M aybe not that guy,” the Chafetz Chaim writes in his Sefer Ahavat Yis rael (chapter 4), “ The regular Jew b elieves in the 13 principles of faith, and therefore he is part of the club. He is loved by God. He is such Hashem’s child . Therefore, how could I possibly hate another Jew if God loves him ? Hashem w ould be upset at me for that .” He says that it’s the nature of every father to love his child tremendously. He puts all his effort into his children. If he finds that someone dislikes his son, he has tremendous complaints about the person. So to o, with God and the Jewish people. Imagine if you had somebody that was upset at you, angry at you, yelled at you. You wouldn’t sleep well at night. And if that father is a person, then surely you know that God is upset with you. And how much more so should you be careful to stay away from that. That is what happens, has v’shalom, when you dis like a Jewish person. That is why we have to work on loving our fellow man .
