Hebrews 9 Reminds the Hebrew readers of the meticulous and fearful process by which access to God (most holy place) had to be done. The High priest had to sacrifice bulls for the sins of the people and their own sins. Year after year, and only once a year. The holy place (inner chambers) represents the present earthly reality, and the Most holy place represents the Kingdom of God/heaven. There is an impossible barrier that separates us and that is our sins and God's Holiness. Only if the sacrifice is acceptable to God does the High priest live, otherwise like the two sons of Aaron, (Nadab and Abihu), the two sons of Eli (Phineahs and Hophni) they will be struck dead in God's presence. What a terror, fear, and burden it is to know how Holy a God He is, and how depraved we are. That's why Jesus is the Greater High priest, that enacts a greater covenant, because it's established not by a temporary temple, but the His very blood and body - which is not made by made, but of God.
