This is a special episode. Since the outbreak of the pandemic in Shanghai in March, from the official data of Shanghai Municipal Health Commission, more than 73,000 positive infections have been reported in Shanghai on April 5th. According to the Guardian, although low by international standards, this is China’s worst outbreak since the virus took hold in Wuhan in January 2020.

What's happening there?

As you know, Shanghai is China’s most important financial and manufacturing base with entire population of 26 million. Shanghai has been consistently praised by the public for its initiatives to combat the pandemic, and now Shanghai lockdown puts livelihoods under strain.

Why does this happen? There is a wide range of opinions in the media and on the internet both at home and abroad.

Videos circulating on social media show Shanghai residents struggling to buy basic necessities such as food as supermarkets remain closed and overburdened with delivery services.

What does this really mean? What exactly are Shanghai residents experiencing? This is the focus of this episode.

So for this episode, I invited 3 of my friends who live in Shanghai to share their stories during the outbreak.
