There are 68 cases of monkeypox detected in Europe so far, specifically in the UK and Portugal. As well as a few cases in the us and Canada. To how concerned should we be? Well up until now people infected with monkeypox transmitted the virus 0-1 other people. So any outbreak of monkeypox usually died very quickly and it was usually easy to see how that person got infected in the first place. Mostly from travels to parts of africa or direct contact with infected animals. But this time around several cases in the U. K. Had no recent travel history and had no contact with someone who traveled either. This worries some health experts in the U. K. And the CDC that maybe the virus is spreading undetected throughout the community or is spreading through new ways. One way UK health officials reckon it might be doing so is through sex. But for now scientists cannot say if the transmission rate has increased or not it's too early. And the cases are limited in 2003 there was a monkey pox outbreak in the US by the way it came from pet dogs that were infected by animals coming from Ghana at that time, 47 people in the midwest called the virus and all of them recovered without spreading the virus to anyone else.
