In recent years, Taiwan has developed into a role-model country for educational choice and alternative education.

At the heart of this reform is Tim Chen, who is known as the godfather of homeschooling and is a famous advocate for educational choice in Taiwan. Tim and his wife Dorota have been homeschooling their multilingual and multicultural kids since 2002.

Tim has recently made a proposal to the Ministry of Education in Taiwan to create a self-directed learning environment for higher education, which is the first of its kind in any country.

Tim’s expertise in education is widely recognized. He is a member of the Taiwan National Curriculum Review Committee Plenary Session representing non-governmental organizations related to education. He also serves on several experimental education review committees for both central and local governments. He has been serving on the Executive Board of the Global Home Education Conference since 2013. He is a frequent conference speaker on home education, alternative education, and open education worldwide.

Tim and Dorota co-authored the best-selling homeschool book in Chinese titled My Home is an International School – Raising Global Kids by a Taiwanese Dad and Polish Mom.

In this episode, Galileo’s Head of Education, Kelly Davis, chats to Tim about his experiences with educational activism in Taiwan, and globally, to facilitate an active discussion around how you can activate change in your own community when it comes to education.
