Dear Matisse,

How can binary trans-ness and concepts of gender as a social construct co-exist peacefully? Isn't there a fundamental requirement to view gender as an innate quality in the former, something people just 'know' and inherently are regardless of the world around them, and in the latter a more abstract desire to see gender (and sex to an extent) as nothing more than scripted, performative act which is all but solely influenced by the world around us?
How does either side reckon with the other without unintentionally invalidating the opposing side's existence?
