Lectionary Series C - Proper 19 (Luke 15:1-10)

Sermon reflections: sharing thoughts after the sermon to keep the sermon in our thoughts and in our hearts throughout the week.

How does salt become salty again? Once it has lost it's saltiness it is worthless. Jesus then tells the parable of the lost sheep, lost coin, and the prodigal son. It all centersĀ  around restoration and renewal. Restoration can only be found in Christ and His cross because through faith in Him are we restored to righteousness. Our saltiness is restored through repentance where we return to the fold, the money bag, and the Father. This is only done through Christ's death on the cross where He won the forgiveness of sins. His righteousness is credited to us through faith, which is a righteousness we do not have because of our sin. Our saltiness is restored! (Luke 14:34-15:10).
