Prayer is Divine Dependency in Action
We remember:
Story: The War in the Valley
Exodus 17:8–16 (ESV)
When Moses lifted his hands in prayer, intercession, and thanksgiving to God – Israel would win the battle. We must pray to Win spiritual battles. God will fight against enemies seen and unseen, we must pray, pray, pray, and then keep praying! How We Can Pray to Win:
1.We Must Pray Continually
2.We Must Pray Watchfully
What is the temptation?
Final Thoughts:
The moment that we act from our flesh, is the moment we begin losing a spiritual battle. Our desire to be right, to be first, to be important...our pride, in all its forms, is a dangerous heart posture because we cannot win spiritual battles through our own effort!
***Humility is the heart posture of spiritual warfare.
Knowing Jesus is the first victory in spiritual warfare. Humility is how we walk in His victory.***
Here's a quick summary of the 4 main points from last week:The first win for the enemy is to draw us away from complete dependence upon God.
1. Pride Places us against God. - James 4:6
The proud person attempts to live without dependence on God.
The humble person attempts to live in Divine Dependency on God for all things.Andrew Murray: "Humility is the place of entire dependence on God."
2. Submission before Resistance - James 4:7-8
3. Jesus showed Great Strength through Humility - Philippians 2:5-11
4. Humility receives Grace in Weakness - 1 Peter 5:5-9
Final Thoughts:
The strongest Christian is not the one whom needs God the least.
The strongest Christian is the one whom depends on God the most.
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
The first victory in spiritual warfare is knowing Jesus!
1. Know Jesus - He is Far Above All (Ephesians 1:19- 23; Hebrews 1:3)
2. Know Jesus - He Gives Strength and Power to Stand (Ephesians 6:10)
3. Know Jesus - He Gave You A New Identity (Ephesians 1:3, 19-20; 2:1-10)
Ephesians 1 - Jesus is Far Above All
Ephesians 2 - You are raised up and seated with Jesus in the heavenly places. You are his workmanship created to walk in good works.
Ephesians 6 - You stand in the strength of His Might and His Power
From Watchman Nee:
1. Sit - rest in our position in Jesus Christ
2. Walk - Live righteously in the world
3. Stand - Stand our ground against the enemy
Colossians 1:15-20
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. 19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
Colossians 2:8-15
8 See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, 10 and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority. 11 In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. 13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.

God is with us - at Christmas everything slows down and we focus on His birth. Then life moves on, God is still forever with us, but are we with God in the routine moments of life? Listen to how Anna and Simeon were blessed in their waiting and how our waiting can be with God in daily moments.

Peter is shown a vision by God that challenges everything he has been taught. The gospel continues to expand through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Saul experiences a massive change - he is blinded for 3 days. A Godly man was chosen by God to come and pray for Saul - with full knowledge of the apparent danger of the assignment - Ananias obeyed God and the result changed the New Testament Church - Saul was filled with the Holy Spirit and regained his sight, was baptized and began to preach about Jesus!
An exposition of Acts Chapters 5-6 - Stephen lives with servanthood, courage and boldness.
A verse-by-verse exposition of Acts, Chapter 1 - Highlighting the three main events of this passage with application for your Christian life.
The power and courage to stand up for Jesus when it could cost you your life! This is the power of the Holy Spirit in you to live with courage for Jesus while counting the cost.
A study in relationship with Jesus as the source of wisdom.
"(1) For I want you to know how great a struggle [in prayer] I have in your behalf and for those who are at Laodicea, and for all those who have not personally seen my face, (2)that their hearts may be encouraged, having been knit together in love, and that they would attain to all the wealth that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a true knowledge of God’s mystery, that is, Christ Himself, (3)in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." - Colossians 2:1-3 NASB
Pastor Cory shares about the power of prayer to carry us through times of fear and anxiety. Through the example of Jesus, we remember the secret to thriving in intimacy during our most difficult moments. Keep our eyes on Jesus - keep our gaze on Him rather than on the troubles of life.
