In this episode, I’m breaking down the decisions that matter for small business owners and marketers when they’re planning to run a sale in their business.
Whether they’re in retail and ecommerce, or offer services to their clients, a discount can be the thing that gets people over that hurdle into purchasing what you offer. However, there are questions we have to answer to create a strategic sale, to generate profit and curate a positive experience for our customers.
At peak season, and at any other time of the year, these 14 decisions will help you focus on what really matters, rather than copying what everyone else is doing.

Every marketing tactic isn’t for everyone but there is an element of neuroscience to why we often feel friction. When we move outside our window of tolerance, things feel a bit harder, but working together can limit this. Even if you don’t have a business partner or team, collaborations can be a way to expand your business’ reach, find inspiration and discover new audiences.
In this episode, we talk about collaborations, finding alignment through them, getting inspiration and your window of tolerance and the neuroscience of working together.

Joan is the founder of The Leap Lounge, host of its podcast, and creator of the signature talk Get Cozy with Change, inspiring audiences to reframe fear, embrace identity shifts, and step boldly into their next chapter. In this episode, I’m chatting with Paige, a designer of brand identities and websites for course creators and entrepreneurs about how to elevate your offer on your website to give a more premium experience to your visitors. This can be important for all brands, even if your offer is kind of more affordable because a higher perceived value means they’re often more inclined to purchase. This has kind of turned into a mini series on brand and I’m really glad that we’re able to wrap this up with a focus on websites.

The customer journey is the experience they go through from identifying a problem they want to solve, searching for your type of offer, choosing a company or product, and all the way through to after the purchase.
We can work to optimise for this journey, giving people what they are looking for and helping people figure out if this is the right fit for them. How your business shows up for the customer on the journey dictates that experience, and where that journey ends. A great journey means they’re more likely to continue going through the process. By optimising this journey as much as you can, you can expect your conversion rate, revenue, and advocacy to rise.
Your marketing roadmap is how you will get from where you are now, to where you want your marketing, and that customer journey, to be.

Lea Durante, is a Family Nurse Practitioner turned Integrative Health Coach. She wields quick, science-based techniques for potent mental and physical transformations. Lea guides individual clients in her signature coaching work “The Integration Experience” and tailors impactful stress reduction & wellness programs for corporate teams. As a co-host of the From Your Center podcast, she shares resources, tools, and inspiration weekly. This is one of those episodes where we talk about marketing more indirectly, but because the nervous system has such an impact on our whole body, how we feel and on our life, it impacts how we show up in our marketing. Lea and I talk about how our nervous system operates when it’s out of sync what we can do about it both in the small moments and the short term and how those efforts compound to helping us find that regulation. In business, and in some parts of marketing, we talk about consistency, but that doesn’t mean that every day is the same, or that we do things equally. We can ride the wave and show up somewhat consistently, and regularly, and those efforts compound over time.Find Lea online: https://www.instagram.com/lea.durante.np/https://www.linkedin.com/in/lea-durante-np/Take Lea’s quiz: https://www.leadurante.com/quizResources mentioned:https://www.amazon.com/Before-You-Know-Unconscious-Reasons/dp/1501101218Emma Peacock is a digital marketing strategist, coach and podcast host. We’re always wanting to structure our marketing in such a way that it makes business more profitable, rather than just adding to the expense column.
Profit often improves by focusing on the four main ways to grow a business. Those are increasing the efficiency of your processes, increasing their customers’ average spend, increasing the number of times they buy from you and by increasing the number of customers (of the type you want).

Emily Aborn is a Content Copywriter, Speaker, and Podcast Host of Content with Character and She Built This. Since 2014, she’s had experience running brick-and-mortar as well as online businesses. She’s worked with 97+ industries as a copywriter, helping her clients increase their visibility, connect with their audience, and open up to creativity in their content. For fun, she enjoys word games, reading, listening to podcasts, and hiking in the woods with her husband, Jason, and their dog, Clyde.
I wanted to chat to Emily about how business owners can both get more curious in creating their own content, but also think about their audience’s curiosity too.
So many business owners I work with speak about hitting a wall when it comes to creating content, and it takes a lot of time for them to figure out what works for them, either finding their writing or speaking style, finding a format, or having to figure out the tech issues. It intrigues me how curiosity can help them figure that out sooner, or at least to simplify taking that first step.

At the start of any new year or quarter, we all love to make a plan or make decisions on how we’re going to do our marketing, but making it actionable and sustainable is how you’ll actually make real progress. A marketing action plan is different to a strategy or an approach, because it’s the specific actions you plan to take in the near future.
What does YOUR marketing need?

At the start of every year, I like to set a bit of a focus. I also do this monthly most of the time, but the year is more an overarching one. I’m not totally one for resolutions, but I love to think about where I want to be in a year, then what’s actually achievable and make a goal from there.Emma Peacock is a digital marketing strategist, coach and podcast host. Working with people isn’t just about hiring the right person. You still need to manage the project and collaborate to get the most out of your investment. Just because something is a project, doesn’t just mean you should just get it ticked off and done. You’ve invested in your business and you should get what you’ve paid for, and yes we want to enjoy working with people, but the people pleasing needs to be dialled in right.
This is the third and final episode in a series about hiring and managing your marketing hires. Outsourcing of marketing isn’t always super simple, but these episodes are here to give you a starting point to get you maybe halfway through figuring out how to make this work for you. This episode is particularly around managing those hires. I talk a little about the basics of delegating tasks, gaining trust on both sides, but also ways to empower and grow the relationship even further, and how to adapt the role over time.

In this episode, I'm breaking down how you can hire without the overwhelm. When there are so many options out there, you need to limit who you are willing to work with. Let's figure it out.

I’m new to AI myself, and have tried using it but found it quite hard to train the tools to match my brand voice. Neither of us are experts on AI, but as I’ve been listening to other takes on it and other podcasts, it seemed to me like Brand Voice was being left out of the conversation. I wanted to chat with Rachel about AI through the lens of copywriting, and brand voice. We want to be able to use these tools , but with accurate expectations and checks and balances in place to make sure we are still on brand. Since we embrace automation around here, we want to use AI to save us time, without compromising on the value we’re providing. I use AI to edit this podcast, with it switching between the video options, and it saves me at least an hour or two per episode, so I’m ready to apply it to other parts of my business. In this episode I chat with Rachel about how we can retain our brand voice while using the tools at our disposal. I’ll include some links in the show notes for more technical resources if this inspires you to learn more about AI.

Kathryn McGarvey has more than 20 years’ marketing experience, from marketing for small local businesses, through to the types of big city soulless corporates you’d never confess to working for at a party without expecting a litany of (justified) complaints. She now runs The Meaningful Marketing Company, based in Napier, New Zealand. She spends her days interviewing people, digitally eavesdropping and generally engaged in wholesome snooping on behalf of her clients (to help them better understand their customers). She’ll tell anyone who’ll listen that talking to your customers and using what they tell you in your marketing is an outrageously simple way to attract, captivate and convert exactly-perfect buyers.

I was so excited to chat to Rachel, I know her and her business pretty well from being on calls together in the Being Boss Clubhouse, but I also had a few questions I knew she’d have great answers to that not only I would find interesting but also that would be of value to anyone who listens to or watches this episode regardless of the type of business they have. I chat with Alison about the benefits of niching, how that process of refining worked for her, and the marketing lessons she's learned over the past 6 years in business.

Sometimes, we hesitate or delay posting something because it’s not quite perfect. This is where minimum viable marketing comes in. Once something is good enough, it goes out and then you let the people decide. They give you feedback that helps you refine your marketing in ways that wouldn’t be possible through gut feeling alone. On the other hand, you can only launch so often with this, before you end up with minimum versions of everything.

In this week’s episode I’m talking you through how to create videos to better engage with your audience and clients.
Video, somewhat like podcasts, is slightly more accessible than written content. You can watch one while you eat your breakfast, or brush your teeth, or do something else, easier than say, reading a blog. They don’t have to be completely unique content, as the people who prefer video often won’t read a blog or ebook, but having them as an option widens the number of people who will engage with your content.

Action items this week:

In this week’s episode I’m talking you through Pinterest and how to use it to market your content constantly into the future using its features.
Pinterest is the one platform where your content appears in people’s feeds for years to come, meaning you can gain thousands of visitors or hundreds of thousands over the next few years for a piece of content you share today. The biggest benefit of Pinterest is that when people save pins direct from your website or share your content throughout Pinterest, your content will be shown to a whole new audience.
Pinterest is a social media platform, a digital inspiration board maker, and a search engine rolled into one. It’s based solely around inspiration, so content must be something that users want to "save" and/or click through to read. The content should be inspirational, aspirational, or educational.

Your point of difference is essentially the thing you use to set yourself apart from whatever competition there is on the market, whether that is specialising in something, or a particular way you deliver your product or service to your customer. Brand building content is the type of content that tells people what your brand story is, what your point of difference is, and the information around your brand, without a link to sell anything, but also no salesy language at all.
Sales content is when you’re pitching something and try to convert your people to a sale of some kind. This could also be a like my page pitch, subscribe to my email pitch, or anything like that, which isn’t a direct money exchange, but will ultimately lead to a percentage of conversion.
Listen to the episode to find out more and hear about some examples and extra tips!
