Girly Nerdy Goodness Podcast - Just Cool Enough: Recent Episodes

None

Do you like video games, movies or having fun at other peoples' expense? Just Cool Enough is a somewhat nerdy podcast and site dedicated to that "uncomfortably funny" feeling fueled by random life events. If you are looking for some questionable life advice or just have a good piece of hate mail you have been dying to send, drop Joe, Eric, and Ike a line by sending an email

We're back! We've given GNG a little bit of a facelift and even started our very own blog! In this episode, we talk about the new site, ThoughtPizza.com, which covers a variety of topics (a.k.a. toppings). But we also talk about zombies, college, and 1920's slang.

To Our Loyal Followers, Listeners, Fans, and Subjects:

We (Annie, Jordan, Katelyn, Whitney) would like to issue a formal apology to you for the following:

  • Our recent absence on the Internet stage
  • The cancellation of the NASA program
  • The lack of witty commentary and meaningful satire on our site
  • Our failure to answer e-mails in a timely manner
  • The existence of Rick Perry
  • Posting time sensitive content much later than is appropriate
  • Not posting episodes on a regular schedule
  • The Twilight franchise
  • Disappointing our fans worldwide

Basically, we suck. And we’re sorry. We feel like we’ve lost touch with the reasons that we started Girly Nerdy Goodness in the first place. We’re not going to stop GNG, but we’re re-evaluating pretty much all aspects of the show. We want to determine what works and what doesn’t so that we can come back even better than ever.

If you have a favorite feature that you want to make sure stays on the show, let us know. Or even if we have some features you think are stupid that should be cut, you can let us know that too. You’re an important part of this show, so we definitely want to keep you involved in this process.

Thank you for sticking with us through these trying times, we can’t wait to show you guys what we’re working on!

Love,

The GNG Girls

Katelyn and Jordan here! Sorry you haven't heard from us in awhile but we've all been hard at work watching horror movies this holiday season. Below is a list of our favorite, new and classic, horror movies!

5.) The Strangers - This movie scares Katelyn to death. It's so realistic. It could happen to anyone! This isn't an exaggeration either. If you're familiar with the movie and know the killers' motivation, it really could happen!

4.) Paranormal Activity Triolgy - The third one just came out. If you haven't seen it, go see it. We don't want to give anything away but it may or may not be worth it. We don't really know what to say, just see it. And you should have already watched the first two by now... if not, that's unacceptable.

3.) Friday the 13th Series - Why are there so many movies? Why does Jason need to go to space? We recommend watching the originals, the oldest few.

2.) The Rob Zombie Halloweens - These are recommended for those mature viewers who prefer a little violence. You get a backstory on Michael Myers, which makes them a little more interesting than the originals. They're hard to compare to the originals but they're definitely a must see.

1.) The Original Halloween Series... like all 17 of them - Seriously, how many are there? And was that all necessary? But even after all these years they're still awesome horror flicks.

BONUS: Hocus Pocus - If you haven't seen this childhood classic, then you've been living under a rock!

What do you think? Which are your must-see Halloween movies?

Ever wonder where the expression "the bee's knees" came from? So do we. We also wonder about what kinds of scented candles men would like. So we talk about that in this episode, along with and a bunch of other really cool junk.

I wasn't here for the recording of this episode, so I don't know what it's about. But there's a special guest star and she's awesome and I can only guess that they talked about some inappropriate topics so it's well worth a listen. I know you're probably thinking that I should have just listened to the episode before writing this, but I thought this might be funnier (probably not...?)

We promise those aren't gunshots at the beginning of this episode. The GNG girls got their hands on some bubble wrap and decided to make a game of it. In addition, someone wins INFINITY COOL POINTS in this episode. That makes them the Morgan Freeman of cool points, which is the highest honor in the universe. So the Morgan Freeman of cool points is now commanding you to listen to this episode. Do it.

In this Potter-centric episode, the girls discuss what they're excited to see in the upcoming Deathly Hallows movie, Pottermore, and how the Harry Potter series has changed their lives. P.S. If you're confused about the opening musical number, you should watch this video.

I haven't done a nerdy knits post in awhile, but that doesn't mean I haven't been hard at work creating hats for weirdos. I don't have a cohesive theme for this round, but I thought I should still share a few of my favorite creations from the last couple of months.

You can see more of each hat on my personal blog:

  • The Eye of Sauron
  • Android Logo
  • Domo
  • Mr. Potato Head

As deemed by Mashable, National Social Media Day was this Thursday, June 30th, and to celebrate this joyous holiday we did a live broadcast!

Detroit partied hard this year for Social Media Day by throwing the bash of the century at Motor City Casino & Hotel, which is where we streamed live from.

Motor City Casino and Livio Radio teamed up to throw and awesome party which included giveaways, sponsor/vendor booths with free swag, suprise Skype-ins, DJs, $2 drafts, biggest group jump Instagram picture and free food--including a build-your-own-coney station!

But most importantly, GIRLY NERDY GOODNESS BROADCASTED LIVE FROM THE EVENT by Katelyn and Jordan!

We were reserved a table in which we could bring in our whole set up and broadcast live, via Livestream, our show!

We had an incredible list of guest speakers and topics that made our show completely awesome!

  • Peter Jurich, local Detroit author, journalist and reverend, joined us to discuss his theory on the death of social networking.
  • Hannah Sarnacki, Youth Football Assistant with the Detroit Lions, and Kristen Antioho, an intern at Pro Camps Worldwide, discussed the relationship between social media and sports.
  • Myke Carmody, local rapper, discussed social media marketing, branding yourself and the value of the internet.
  • Open Discussion: Job Hunting via Social Media; How to Brand Yourself; Public vs Private Profiles

The show went off without at hitch, except for the poor lighting, and we couldn't be happier!

Thank you to everyone who watched live online, watched us live at the event, promoted us, stopped by to talk with us before/during/after the broadcast, tweeted us questions, showed interest in possibly working with us in the future, etc! You're all amazing!

See you next year!

During this week's episode, we kept getting distracted by all the dinosaurs outside our window (a.k.a. Jurassic Park on the TV). Oh, and the Gobi Desert is really hot, in case you were wondering...

This is our first official episode on the GNG World Tour 2011! We thought we'd start the tour off with a bang and make our first stop the surface of the sun! Besides discussing how freaking hot it is here, we talked about a real-life Batman that was hanging from a local building, the rise and fall of social media websites and some brief typography talk. We also gave away another one of our prized Digital Plaques. OH YEAH, and an unexpected visitor crashed our vacation on the Sun.

As you may have heard, Katelyn and Whitney had been collecting pledges for a Michigan Special Olympics fundraiser--The Polar Plunge. After raising over $700 in donations the day came for them to actually jump into the frozen river and show their support.

On February 19th, D-Day, it was 35° F in Detroit, Michigan and the water temperature was a chilly 37° F below 11 inches of ice.  Let the video speak for itself...
