The most effective way to live in the world is with a balanced personal heart.  In a balanced personal heart, you learn to feel your feelings and process them through to completion, keep your physical body in balance the best you can, create safety for yourself, love unconditionally, and do things in your community that are good for the whole.  When your personal heart is balanced, you can process through your own personal pain and the global pain in the world and still be able to function.  A balanced personal heart can set reasonable expectations for yourself and others to reduce the essential pains of living in this world.  Use this meditation to help bring you back to a calm and loving presence so you can go out into the world and become a love beacon.

Each person has a unique personal heart on one level with its own history of both positive and negative experiences.  The feelings associated with these experiences get encoded in the heart, body, and mind.  When those feelings collectively become overwhelming, the personal heart will shut down to prevent further experiences of pain and imbalance.   In order to return your personal heart to balance, the first priority is to feel safe in the present moment.  Many spiritual practices including meditation, prayer, mantras, etc. keep you dis-identified from feelings, thoughts, and beliefs.  This creates a sense of safety within the mind, body and personal heart in the present moment.   This meditation is designed to help you balance your personal heart.

Spending time in nature at least 30 minutes or more a week is not only good for your soul but good for your mind and physical body. It can sometimes be challenging, however, to escape the city life of black top and concrete to find soul sanctuaries nestled among forests, beaches, mountains, deserts, lakes, rivers, etc.   Here is a meditation I created while sitting in nature.  If you can't be in nature, you can visualize and imagine being there.  The mind doesn't know the difference between what is real and what is imagined.  So, take a break and join me as we reconnect with nature.

Gratitude is defined as the “quality of being grateful, thankful or a in a state of appreciation.”  It is simply the act of looking around and seeing all the good in the world.   This meditation will help you experience a shift from the fear-based part of your brain (called the reptilian brain) up to the love-focused part of the brain (called neocortex).  This shift releases positive neurotransmitters like oxytocin into the brain which perpetuates the positive feelings of gratitude, unconditional love, compassion, and acceptance.  Enjoy!

Learning to set healthy limits for yourself helps you build a sense of safety and responsibility for your own health and happiness.  The more you feel safe and secure, the easier it will be to feel more love and joy in your life.  Use this meditation practice to help you build strong limits for yourself so you may achieve and stay in balance more often.

Healthy boundaries are the healthy limits you set with other people, external situations and anything else outside of yourself.  Imagine healthy boundaries as the rail on the left side of your love bridge.  When your boundary rail is full of healthy boundaries you set with other people or situations, then it creates a sense of safety and protection from the daily stresses of being human.  If you know your authentic self (including light side and dark side), feel your feelings and take care of your needs you will know what you can and cannot do while staying in balance in the present moment.  The more you know and accept yourself unconditionally then you can easily make decisions about what boundaries you need moment to moment to stay in balance the best you can.

Many of us were not modeled healthy intimacy as a child.  We were not taught, and maybe even discouraged to love ourselves. We were told it was not nice or even considered bragging.’  Loving yourself does not mean self-worship or narcissism. It means giving yourself respect, forgiveness and kindness.  So, no, self-love does not equal selfishness.   Self-love equates to your self-worth.  And when you don’t feel worthy, you begin to attract negative energy into your life.  This can come in the form of anger, jealousy, blame, criticism, and loneliness which can lead to poor relationship choices, conflicts on the job, and depression.  That’s not an enjoyable way to live.  That is why it is so important to give yourself the love you need, first.  Don’t wait for someone else to do it for you.  The best relationship you can have is the one you have with yourself.

Compassion as defined by Merriam-Webster dictionary is sympathetic consciousness of others’ distress together with a desire to alleviate it.  Compassion for yourself is the ability to have sympathy for yourself as you experience the essential pains of life within in your mind and body.  Giving yourself compassion can come in many forms including reassuring yourself either verbally or physically, feeling unconditional love for yourself, and just being present for yourself like a healthy parent would be there for their stressed out child.

Forgiveness is defined as the cancellation of the conditions in the mind that are blocking the full flow of love or life energy, independently of the behavior of others.  It is a free personal choice an act of will.  So these mental conditions in your mind are the egoic beliefs that you are not forgivable for what you did or didn’t do in the past.  Use this meditation to practice self-forgiveness by just asking yourself this one question:  "What do I need to forgive myself for, that I either did or didn't do in the past that I can’t forgive myself for now?   This is the first step toward being honest with yourself when you can state clearly what you did either to yourself or to someone else.

Unconditional love is the glue that connects you to your authentic soul self.  This unconditional love for all facets of your conscious as well as unconscious self allows you to experience acceptance, forgiveness, and compassion for yourself.  Unconditional self-love is the major shift in personal soul consciousness evolution.  When your soul beliefs include you are lovable no matter what you do or don’t do, you can love yourself unconditionally.  Practice unconditional self-love by being aware when you start judging yourself for something you did or didn’t do in the present moment.  Or if you feel someone else has judged you for doing something or not doing something you should have done.  Then ask yourself, "How can I feel unconditional self-love in this moment?"  Use this meditation to help you process your feelings to healthy balance.

Mind care involves learning how to become more present in the moment and reduce the amount of time you are in future or past stories.  Meditation is a great daily practice to facilitate becoming more presence in your daily life.

Compassion for others is the ability to have sympathy for others as they experience the essential pains of life and a desire to alleviate their suffering.  You will learn to feel compassion for others while staying in balance so whatever actions you take to alleviate someone else’s pain does not throw you off balance. This is a healthy way to be of service to other people and still stay in balance.  Almost everyday there are times when someone can benefit from you being a little more compassionate toward them.  It can be as simple as being a listening and loving presence as he/she shares their stressful story with you, sharing with someone your feelings of compassion for them in this moment, and/or demonstrate a willingness to help others in need.  So if you have a challenge feeling compassion for others then look for moments of opportunity this week to consciously give others compassion.
