At Christmas we give each other gifts…lots of gifts. Skeptics will tell you that it’s to fuel capitalistic consumerism, but church history tells us that we give gifts to each other because of the gifts given to Jesus at his birth. However, Christmas is not about the gifts we gave, but about the gifts of God. God is the first and most generous giver, and he has given humanity many many gifts, and most of all the gift of Jesus. Join us as we study and receive the gifts of God.

"Who are you voting for?” is the question of this election season, and the question you’re hoping doesn’t (or does) come up at your next family gathering. Religion and politics are on the short list of topics we’ve learned not to talk about, yet they shape our lives on a daily basis. Our culture is screaming from both sides of the political aisle that our salvation lies in voting for the right, or for the left. However, the freedom, hope, security, peace, and future we are looking for is not found by looking right or left, but by looking up. Over the next 5 weeks we are turning to the pages of scripture to learn what it looks like to live out God’s Politics. Here's the full service (including worship) from Sunday, October 20! Join us Sundays at 10:45 a.m. as we seek to be REAL People, who follow a REAL God and experience REAL Life. Here at Life Church Livonia we believe that you were made on purpose, for a purpose. You were made to experience the full goodness of life. Did you know that you were made for life in all its fullness? That you were made for a purpose? That there is a way of life that leads you into goodness not destruction? Did you know that you were made to be part of something bigger than yourself?
We want to welcome you, not just to the fall, but to the life that God intends for you. Welcome to Life.

Here at Life Church Livonia we believe that you were made on purpose, for a purpose. You were made to experience the full goodness of life. Yet most of us don’t feel that we’re experiencing life the way we should, let alone life in all it’s fullness. Over the next several weeks join us as we discover the life God has made us for as we seek to welcome you to Life Church, to God’s Truth, and to life and life to the full in Jesus. Welcome to Life.
Join us Sundays at 10:45 a.m. as we seek to be REAL People, who follow a REAL God and experience REAL Life.

We see in the Bible that God so loved the whole world that he gave his one and only son so that whoever believes in Jesus will not perish but have eternal life. We also see that Jesus’ whole ministry is bringing a taste of heaven to earth and that Christians are charged to be ambassadors of heaven on earth. It may seem obvious, but you and I can’t be ambassadors of God’s love to the whole world. We simply aren’t that big. We live in one place at a time, and we can only Love Where We Live, not where we don’t. Our goal in this series is to learn from God’s word how to bring heaven here by learning how to love the people God has placed around us. Join us for the next four weeks as we learn tangible ways to Love Where We Live.

It’s no secret that we have an election coming up, and many of us are scared of what might happen. We fear the candidates we’ll have to choose from, we fear who will win, we fear the policies that will change our country and are afraid for the future. On November 5, statistically speaking, 50% of us will feel like we lost and our fears will come true.
In the biblical book of Daniel, Daniel goes through several hostile political take overs where his political party loses every time. Scripture is no stranger to criticizing it’s heros, and yet Daniel is one of the few people the Bible never says anything negative about. Somehow Daniel figured out how to lose like a champion. As we head into a highly politicized season, what can we learn from this man of God on how to navigate divisiveness, injustice, hostility and disappointment? Join us to find out as we learn to “lose like a champion”.

As summer begins we are beginning to feel restless as we look forward to rest. Many of us feel tired, rundown and exhausted from the craziness of our life and the unrest in our world that creates unerst in us. We find ourselves longing for rest, longing to stop, longing for peace, longing to just enjoy life. The good news is, God wants those things for us too, but He doesn’t want them just one season a year, he made us to experience those things one day every week. God’s plan to give us rest in a restless world is a spiritual disciple called: The Sabbath. What does this ancient discipline have to do with calming our souls, quieting our hearts, and remaking us into the people we long to be? Join us over the next four weeks as we find out how we were made for rest in a restless world.

In the book of Joshua, we see the people of Israel making a major transition as they follow God out of the wilderness and into the promised land. As they navigate that transition, they witness miracles, make destructive mistakes, and also live out powerful acts of faith. As Life Church Livonia is in our own transition into a new season, we want to learn from those who have gone before us. We want to witness miracles, avoid the mistakes of the past and go with God into a better future.
Join us for the next 5 weeks as we look at how we can move Out of the Wilderness and into God’s promises.

When you hear the word worship, what comes to mind? Is it singing? Is it stained glass? Is it closed eyes or raised hands? When we look at the bible, we see that the bible describes that all of life is meant to be worship. What does that mean? What does it mean for our 9-5, our messy homes, our full parenting, our closest relationships, and our real lives to be worship? Join us for five weeks as we discover what worship is, how we do it, and what it looks like as Real People try and follow our Real God and experience Real Life in Jesus.

Join us Sundays at 10 a.m. as we seek to be REAL People, who follow a REAL God and experience REAL Life.

We know how ovens are designed to work, how cars are designed to work, and even how cell phones are designed to work. So why do we have such a hard time figuring out how marriage, sex, and intimacy are designed to work? They are so crucial to human life, yet so easy to get wrong, and so hard to get right. God doesn’t want us to struggle in these areas, so he has made his design for marriage, sex and intimacy clear in his word.
Over the course of February we are going to be looking at God’s design for love, and how we were made to love by design. This is not just a series for married folks, or people in romantic relationships, it is a series for every person, because everyone was made to love by design.

In a world where depression, anxiety, loneliness, and addiction are at an all time high, what does it look like to love the Lord our God with all our mind? Mental health struggles are deeply real, deeply personal, and incredibly common. In fact, there are multiple people in the pages of the Bible that we might diagnose with some of the issues we struggle with today. What if our mental health struggles were not barriers to us meeting God, but were the very places God wants to meet us? Join us for this four week series as we look at some common mental health struggles and questions so that we can more deeply love the Lord our God with all our minds.

Christmas is a festive time when we receive gifts and give gifts to our loved ones, decorate our homes, listen to good music, and eat a lot of food. But as Christians, this season means so much more than that. We celebrate the historical fact that God stepped into humanity and brought with Him gifts that changed the world: Hope, Joy, Peace, and the treasures of Heaven. Let’s celebrate the God that came “Down to Earth” this Christmas together.

“This is the Way” is a popular quote from the hit show, “The Mandalorian”. In the show, it is a cultural expression said by the Mandalorian people to give strength, clarify resolve, express solidarity, and give courage to a group of people living out their convictions and culture in a world in which they are strangers. “The Way” was also the name given to the early Christians who followed “The Way of Jesus”. The followers of The Way lived out their conviction of the resurrection as strangers in a strange world. In this series, we are going to look at 5 different practices that mark followers of “The Way of Jesus” and learn how to incorporate them into our own lives as we follow Him as strangers in a strange world. This is the Way.

Fall is busy for everyone, and every person wishes it wasn’t. It’s so easy to get caught up in the rush of school starting, sports kicking off, the change of schedules and the change of seasons. Most falls feel like a mad dash at the beginning of a race, but this fall doesn’t have to. This fall we can break through the busy by remembering the why behind what we do and stick to our values. We are doing exactly that at Life Church Livonia this fall as we take a step back to remind ourselves of our vision, mission and values before jumping into a new season. Join us over the next 6 weeks as we Break through the Busy.

In the book of Jonah we see God’s cause for the lost as he calls Jonah to evangelize to people whom Jonah considered a lost cause. In the midst of national wounds, racial tensions, great reluctance and greater movements of God, we see God move in, through and despite Jonah to see the lost become found. God’s cause is still for the lost, and like Jonah, he has called you and I to make the lost our cause because Jesus came to seek and save the lost cause.

The book of Psalms is a symphony of the human experience. Through the Psalms we see people bring their joy, their pain, their anger, their doubt, their praise, their wonder and their souls to God in song. The book of Psalms has been rightly called the prayer book and the hymnbook of scripture, a sort of playlist of the human experience as Real People are living Real Life with our Real God. Join us Sundays at 10 a.m. as we do a survey of the book of Psalms this summer and learn that worship happens when we offer the cry of our own souls up to God in full expression.

Join us Sundays at 10 a.m. as we do a survey of the book of Psalms this summer and learn that worship happens when we offer the cry of our own souls up to God in full expression.

No Dad sets out hoping that they blow it. And yet absent, passive and destructive Fathers are now a normal part of the American family. Yet God’s plan for you and I is that we would be good and godly dads. We are meant to be fathers who are not defined by how good or bad our dad was, but who are defined by the goodness of our Father in Heaven. Join us this Sunday as we look at how our Father in Heaven parented Jesus, so that we can learn to be good Fathers from our Heavenly Father.

Most of us look forward to summer. We’re ready for the sun, ready for fun and ready for rest. The problem is, most of us don’t know how to get ready for rest so summer ends up being busier, crazier, more harried and more hectic than the rest of the year. Join us at Life Church as we learn some key disciplines to get us ready for rest.

Happy Mother’s Day! Join us as Marcie helps not just the moms, but all of us understand the gift of being ourselves. We all clothes ourselves with many things that we then call an “identity” but God has given each of us a true identity that is deeper than any role, behavior or other affliation. This mother’s day, we want to help you become who God made you to be.

Why, God? This is a question that we ask all throughout life; it’s a deeply human question. It’s the cry of our confusion, disappointments and pains. The Bible is full of people who asked this question in various forms and varying ways. We see it in Solomon’s book of Ecclesiastes, in the Suffering of Job, in the pain of Paul. Join us as we, like Jacob, wrestle with God in the midst of our “why”s.

He is Risen! Easter is the defining moment of human history because on Easter we celebrate Jesus’ death and resurrection from the dead, rejoicing in the forgiveness of our sins, the redemption of the world and the invitation to His new way to be human. At Easter, we see God’s heart, and we see it before Jesus ever gets to the cross. Join us as we celebrate and reflect on the meaning of Easter through the story of Barabbas.

On Good Friday, we pause and acknowledge the death of Jesus on the cross. We pause to reflect in silence and stillness, lamenting at the world’s brokenness, confessing our sins personally and corporately, and finally extending and receiving forgiveness. We celebrate Easter Sunday with joy, but we cheapen the joy of the resurrection when we miss the necessity of the crucifixion.
Join us as we participate in stations to reflect as we celebrate Good Friday.

Life is hard enough all on its own, but it can become harder still when we do things that are “Stupid”, or what the Bible calls foolish. But here’s some good news! God wants to help us become wise people who make wise decisions. That’s part of why God gave us the book of Proverbs- a book full of wisdom for navigating life with wisdom. So, join us as we explore the book of Proverbs and discover how to live in wisdom, because life doesn’t need to be any harder than it is.

This is a simple hashtag that people use when they see a couple doing romance and relationship in a way they want for themselves. It’s one thing to have relationship goals, but it’s another to achieve them. Every one of us has hopes, wishes and desires for our relationships, but most of us struggle to describe them and even fewer ask God what his relationship goals are for us. Jesus came so that we might have abundant life in him and in our relationships. Join us over the next four weeks as we explore God’s Relationship Goals for our Marriages, Singleness, Friendships and Parenting.

Winter is a time where everything dies, and we feel it. Depression is higher, loneliness is higher, sickness is increased, and apathy sets in. We try to fight against it by taking trips to warmer places, setting new year’s resolutions, getting back to the gym, etc. but these things usually don’t produce the change and hope we’re looking for. Regardless of the season, God’s plan for you is that you would have a flourishing life in him in every season. The question is, “How?”. Join us as we see what the Bible says about what it looks like to live a flourishing life.

Life seems to becoming increasingly complex. In a world that is so chaotic, divided and violent, it can be easy to let the intensity and anxiety drown our souls and warp our perspectives. This year, we are simply returning to the Christmas story not because we need new information, but because we need to be reminded that in the coming of Jesus Christ, heaven is coming to earth. We remember that we know the end of the story when God makes all things new, and right and good. As we anchor ourselves in this remembrance, it allows us to simply rest, be simply joyful and simply be as we simply celebrate Christmas.

Life Church Livonia is in the midst of our Home Campaign. We cannot wait to see where God leads us to have a permanent home, and what he does through His church in this next season. However, it’s important that we remind ourselves WHY we are doing this campaign, WHY we exist as a church and WHAT we are here to do in Metro Detroit. In this series we will remind ourselves what Life (and Life Church) Is really about as we seek to be Real People, following our Real God and experiencing Real Life and Life to the full in Jesus Christ.

Whether it’s because of the accessibility of digital church, the political and racial intensity of 2020, the way Christians handled themselves during the pandemic, or a doubt that comes from loss, most of us have asked the questions “What is Church?” and “Why go?” at some point over the last two years.
The Bible shows us that we were made to be Better Together. The Church is not simply an event meant to entertain or inform us; the church is a transforming community that is God’s plan to transform us and transform the world. Join us as we look at what it takes to truly be Better Together.
Join us Sundays at 10am as we seek to be REAL People, who follow a REAL God and experience REAL Life.

What if Jesus meant what he said, when he said that the two most important things in life are to love God with all our hearts, and love our neighbor as ourselves? Even if we take Jesus at his word, it leaves us with so many questions: “What does Jesus mean to love God with all these different parts of me?”, “Why do I have to love myself too?”, “What if I don’t have much to give?”, etc. Join us at Life Church Livonia as we learn what it means to live Like a Good Neighbor.

Whether it’s from news channels, social media, friends, family members, or even google, all us at some point look to answer the questions: Who is Jesus? Does he matter to my life? What do I do about him and the people that claim to know and follow him?
Over the past few years, there have been many people claiming to speak for Jesus, and most of them have had some pretty bad press. With so many voices claiming to speak for who Jesus is, what does Jesus have to say for himself?. Who does Jesus say he is?
Join us as we look at Jesus’ seven “I am” statements in the gospel of John as we fill in the blank: Jesus is ______.

Last weekend we finished our series on Nehemiah called "The 2nd Act". Alex Sr. and Alex II talk about some things you may not have noticed in Nehemiah 8 as well as the downer note the book ends on and why it ends on a low note instead of a high.
So much discipleship in following Jesus happens along the way. It's often not any particular sermon, event, conference or study that transforms us, but is the conversations we have surrounding those things along the way. Discipleship happens on the journey, not at any particular destination. This podcast is a place where we can have deeper conversations about scripture, theology, philosophy and be formed along the way. Join us as we dive deeper into the scriptures and topics our church is studying by interviewing teachers, preachers, experts and companions on the journey.

2020 and 2021 have been a plot twist no script writer would have written. We have been faced with hard questions, major problems, rising conflict and deep issues both personally and corporately. We have seen marriages fail, jobs lost, loved ones pass and health decline. We need a second act. In a two act story, the first act is where all the problems arise and the main characters flaws come to the surface. The second act is where the characters grow into the people who can answer the tough questions, find solutions to problems, face their enemies and find true victory. The second act is not just a hope we have for ourselves, it is how God works and who he is. He is a God of the second act. Join us as we explore the book of Nehemiah and learn how God brought about a second act for Israel and how he can do the same for us today.

Fear is a constant companion in the modern age. We fear COVID, we fear the government, we fear each other, we fear what’s next. It has been rightly said that we live in an age of anxiety. We are worried for our marriages, kids, jobs, callings, health, and that’s just before lunch. The people of the first Christmas had many things to fear as well, but in the midst of all their fears, God sent angels to tell them to “fear not”. This message was not just for those of the first Christmas, but it is for us today. Join us this Christmas season as we are reminded to “fear not”, because God is on the move. This week we take a look at the "boring history" that Alex cut from his sermon on Sunday. We talk through the time between the New Testament and the Old and how that created the political realities of Jesus' day. We also look at how the genealogy in Matthew 1 is literally an outline of the family of God both in a literal and symbolic sense.

In this past year we have seen the dark side of humanity on display, and it has left many of us feeling hopeless. The pressures of COVID, the 2020 election, social isolation, racial violence and the normal stresses of life have brought out the worst in most of us. It has left us thinking, “there has got to be a better way”. A better way to communicate. A better way to work through differences. A better way to do relationships. A better way to discern truth. A better way to be human. The good news is that there is a better way…there’s a new way to be human. In the Sermon in the Mount, Jesus lays out the blueprint for how we are meant to do life alone, together and with Him. He doesn’t just give us a better way, but a new way to be human. Join us as we walk through the Sermon on the Mount as we learn how to flourish as the people God created us to be.

Kate and Alex II look at Mark Chapter 16 and make some observations and wonders about the strange way it ends, and the characters that we meet in the final chapter of the gospel of Mark.
So much discipleship in following Jesus happens along the way. It's often not any particular sermon, event, conference or study that transforms us, but is the conversations we have surrounding those things along the way. Discipleship happens on the journey, not at any particular destination. Whether from COVID, poor choices, pain from others or the trials of life, all of us have felt like the world is upside down and we're not sure how to make things right side up again. We believe that Jesus shows us how to live right side up in an upside down world. Many people talk about Jesus, but few people have actually gone to the source material to hear from Jesus' own mouth about who He is, who the Church is, and how to live right side up in this upside down world. Join us as we walk through the book of Mark and find purpose, guidance and life to the full.

Alex Sr. and Alex II revisit some of the things that we had to skip over in Mark 15 this past weekend. Specifically we look at Jesus' cry "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?" as he dies upon the cross. Did Jesus lose his mind? Did God abandon his only son? Or is there something deeper going on here?

Kate and Alex go through chapter 14 and talk about the contrast between Mary and Judas, losing Jesus in Gesthemane and that losing and betraying Jesus are normal parts of the Christian journey as we go to the cross ourselves, address issues from our family of origin, and re-examine our own faulty thoughts about ourselves, God and the world. So much discipleship in following Jesus happens along the way. For me, it hasn’t been a list of sermons that changed my life, or a list of places I volunteered, or even a book of the bible, but the way God moved in and through people around those things. The journey has formed me much more than any particular destination. So we are going to try to create that for you via this podcast. Hopefully it’s a place where we get to talk about things like what went into writing the sermon from this Sunday and what got cut that you wish you could have included. We’ll talk about our passions and hearts and why we are doing different things as a church. We’ll have the conversations on here that happen behind the scenes so that you can be a part of them too. Kate and Alex talk about how they start writing a sermon when they are preaching on a passage of scripture. They make observations and ask questions about Mark Chapter 10 as they look at divorce, the importance of children to God, revisit who is greatest in God's kingdom and then end by talking about healing physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.

Everyone loves a good comeback story, but no one likes the overwhelming setback that happens before the comeback. We live in a broken world, so we experience problems, trials, difficulties, losses and failures. We have all been in the middle of a global setback during this pandemic. However, God is the author of the ultimate comeback story: Jesus rising from the dead. Easter is the celebration of the ultimate comeback, but the good news is that Jesus’ comeback isn’t an isolated incident; it’s a declaration of who God is. Jesus’ comeback makes ours possible. Join us as we look at the real lives of 5 people in the Bible and see how God turned the stories of their lives into comeback stories.

No single event in human history has received more attention than the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth.
Jesus is believed to have died at the age of 33 years.
Those who recorded his story in the Bible focused most of their energy to his last 1,100 days or 3 years.
However, they believed Jesus’ last day on earth didn’t just change the date on our calendar—it changed the world!
Join us as we explore the last 24 hours of Jesus life because he didn’t just come to change the world—he came to change your life and mine!

We were made for relationship. We were made for deep, and life-giving relationships with God and people. However, if we are honest, we have all had relationships that have failed. Whether its romantic relationships, friendships or relationships with our family we have all messed up. And when our relationships fail, it shakes us to the core.
The good news is, God does not want to see our relationships fail, but to thrive and flourish instead. Which is why he gives us both warnings and instructions in His Word about how to do relationships well.
Join us for our new series, “4 Reasons Why Relationships Fail” as we look at 4 categories that regularly ruin our relationships and see what God’s Word has to say about living them differently.

Many of us are walking into 2021 with fear and uncertainty, hoping that this next year is not has hard as the previous one. But the bible shows us that no matter what year it is or what our circumstances are, God has a vision for our lives. The mission of Jesus remains unchanged since the resurrection, that people would Live Upwards, looking to God as their source of life; Live Inwards and grow into deep and mature disciples; and Live Out the love of God in the world. God made each of us to join him on this mission. So no matter what 2021 holds, God has A Vision for Life.

Join us Sundays at 10am as we find hope, faith and life in the birth of Jesus this Advent season. This has been an incredibly hard season, and most of us are struggling to be thankful for anything this year. What is there to be grateful for in 2020? It is an easy time to voice complaints that are deep and often justified. Yet the bible speaks to the importance of learning to give thanks even when you’d rather say “no thanks”. Join us as we as we explore the life altering power of gratitude in our new series “No Thanks 2020”.
