(Please excuse my runny nose in this one😂) - We are all aware that mental/emotional well-being is essential to maintain on a surface level. But on a deeper level, research shows us over & over that emotional skills are thee foundation to human happiness & success.

There is no such thing as a solely logical person. Emotions are what make us human, and we must learn how to interact with them, not because we're whiny or soft, but because emotions drive humanity. Emotions are at the root of everything humans do, and whether or not we will survive.

This episode is based on research that was conducted by the Yale Emotional Intelligence Research Center & research psychologist Marc Brackett, Ph.D.'s book, Permission to Feel.

“I do not chase goals, I answer callings." A quote from Olympian & Olympic Coach, Dr. Jeff Spencer, who is today’s guest on the pod.

This episode has so many universal truths that will hit home for a wide range of people. In addition, if you are someone that is working towards a big goal or the creation of something bigger than yourself, this is the exact episode you need.

We talk about how to know you’ve chosen the right goal (intention) and why people lack clarity or motivation in the pursuit of a goal and what you need to know about life to push past that.

Dr. Jeff Spencer is a man who has spent five decades building champions.

At the age of 11, Jeff wrote a contract with himself to make the 1972 Olympic Games – a goal he accomplished in his early twenties competing in 2 cycling events and learning the keys to goal achievement.

Since then, his 500,000 hours in the high-performance world allows him to see things from every perspective.

Dr. Spencer has helped athletes win over 40 gold medals and cycling teams to eight Tour De France victories. I’ve also experienced him speak and coach first hand and it is unlike anything I’ve ever witnessed.

Dr. Spencer has also authored three books, been awarded International Sports Chiropractor of the Year, is creator of The Champion’s Blueprint methodology, and had his glass-blowing art displayed in some of the world’s finest galleries.

Today, Dr. Spencer is most renowned as mentor to thought-leaders and businesses who want to exponentially grow and catapult to iconic status. Some of his notable clients include Tiger Woods, Richard Branson, the band U2, Lance Armstrong, Alberto Contador, Maria Sharapova (so cool), Nike, Hitachi, and Dave Asprey’s Bulletproof.

However, his proudest achievement is the raising of his adopted daughter, Kin, with his wife Kristina.

Bryan Post is one of America’s top Child Behavior and Adoption Experts. A renowned speaker and best-selling author. Bryan is the founder of the Post Institute, which is internationally recognized in the treatment of emotional and behavioral disturbance, especially in adopted and foster children, and struggles within their families. What I love about his approach, and you’ll see it very apparent in the way Bryan speaks, is he focuses on a love-based treatment approach that focuses on developing a deeper understanding of trauma, stress, and fear and how they rule our lives and how to use love to bring peace and healing.

Bryan and I crossed paths at a business event in Nashville, where he was delivering a talk. His ability and willingness to discuss emotions and trauma processing in a logic-heavy business environment were so exciting to me because you don’t see it a lot. And he held a space. It’s hard to hold space that can help people safe in working through those things but it’s what we need to heal the world. But I saw Bryan create that and really deeply care while he was doing it.

One of his statements, “your block is in your pain. your breakthrough is in the honoring of your pain,” deeply resonated with me. This is the essence of our discussion today, a topic that I believe will help you release a lot of what may be weighing you down.

“We’ve been taught most of what we know at school in an autocratic system for so long that we have lost the ability to live from the inside out. Complying with the established system and repeating our known past is literally robbing our kids of their future and crushing their souls. Topics: If you didn't go to college or feel you don't want to... this is the episode for you. Today, Leah & I are comparing and contrasting her early stage and my later stage of the experience of entering the workforce without going to college.

Leah is a class of 2022 high school graduates exploring every path to success after senior year. After feeling confused, insecure, and rushed during her Decision Day… she continued to wonder, “How does everyone else have it figured out?” After taking career quizzes, touring colleges, and filling out plenty of applications, her gut was telling her that something was off.

Rather than following the crowd, she decided to jump right into the workforce, embracing an entrepreneurial spirit wholeheartedly. With expertise in social media and video production, Leah has begun to navigate the professional world while documenting her journey throughout the process.

She finds joy in learning from successful individuals and gaining their perspectives in order to share them with teenagers who feel the same way. The Decision Day podcast was created as a space to shine a light on the diverse paths available to students after high school graduation!

We're being force-fed hyper-independence masked by the word "self-love."

  • I don't encourage being in an unhealthy relationship over being single.
  • I'm not saying you can't be happy single.
  • I'm not saying you need to believe in the concepts of marriage or life partners.

Sometimes, we do need to turn our focus to improving our relationship with ourselves. However, the love you have for yourself can not do for you what receiving love from another can do for you. It can not teach you what partnerships can teach you.

What I am saying is we CAN balance our independence and self-love WITH actively and intentionally seeking a healthy relationship because if you aren't being active about it, it's not going to fall out of the sky.

It isn't easy to be an emotionally developed man in a society that teaches you to suppress your feelings. It isn't easy to build healthy relationships with your partner when most of us are never taught how. It isn't easy to know if you've found a partner that will be compatible with you long-term if you don't know what qualities to look for. That's what this episode is for; to teach you some of the relationship lessons that you never got to help you build the partnership you deserve.

Topics: Become a better leader, how to live in fulfillment & bliss, decision-making, redefining success, & improve your perspective on life with a few simple questions.

Simon Cohen is an international keynote speaker, broadcaster, entrepreneur, and father/husband from Cornwall, England. At 24 he founded a hope and values-driven communications agency called Global Tolerance. He managed PR for an incredible portfolio of people such as the Dalai Lama, Gandhi's grandson, and many more. Through his time as the leader of Global Tolerance he consistently found himself challenging conventional wisdom and speaking as an international thought leader. In hopes to be a stay-at-home dad and be fully present for his family, in 2014 Simon decided to give away his company Global Tolerence to set an example for a more values-driven type of exit strategy. He is now working on writing a book, continues to be a thought leader through social media and speaking events, and enjoys playing an integral part of raising his beautiful daughters with his wife.

"For Liz, her connection to mother earth is everything. As a child, she lived between California and Mexico until she was 14. She spent part of her childhood playing, dancing, and brewing potions in the forest of Northern California. The other part of her childhood was spent in the community with family, friends, and elders in a small pueblo just south of Guadalajara, Mexico.

As the first of her social circle to get a job in high school, people began to seek to her for career advice in 2010. What started with introductory resume and interview prep ended in comprehensively coaching people in self-advocacy, leadership skills, conflict resolution, boundaries, etc.

Somewhere along the way in her 20's Liz was sucked into the hustle culture of corporate life working in Marketing and Communications, she climbed the corporate latter, made 6 figures, owned a custom home, custom pool, and drove an Alfa Romeo. She lived a very consumptive lifestyle of careless accumulation and forgot her earth momma roots. During this period, she had accomplished more than she could have imagined by 27 but was deep in a pit of depression and anxiety. She describes this time as her period of purgatory. Today, she recalls that season of her life with warm eyes and a large grin as she reflects, "mother earth was just calling me home."

She balanced her coaching business while also working a demanding corporate job as head of internal communications for supply chain at the largest high fashion retailer in Northern America. She eventually had to quit her 9-5 life to tend to her growing coaching practice. She is now living in rural Upstate New York, where she called in her soul family of healers, herbalists, and teachers. Liz found her way back in harmony with mother earth and is on the path of becoming an herbalist as well.

Liz brings a soulful approach to the collective about how to show up as a divine, grounded, strong, boundaried version of yourself while working in dominant corporate cultures. With a focus on shadow work, self discovery, self advocacy, and boundaries, Fem Home Ec's mission is to teach the art of coming home to your body and intuition while living in harmony with mother earth and the structures of our dominance culture."

Who is Quentin Michael?

Quentin grew up in Minnesota. He was a shy, soft-spoken kid with a mind that went a mile a minute. (later being diagnosed with ADHD)

In 2012, he moved to Wisconsin to start university and found his interests sparked in the tech industry. He attempted to create his first startup that was in the virtual reality space but failed within the next 6 months. He later realized he'd entered the space to just "look cool" and not for the right reasons. Despite the failed attempt, he still kept an eye on the possibility of entrepreneurship as he finished his bachelor's.

Two years after graduating he found himself in a bad situation, mentally and financially. He'd hit rock bottom. Over the next 6-9 months he dabbled with different platforms and soon found himself on Linkedin where he become one of Linkedin's first video creators. After beginning to find success on the platform, he started the marketing agency, Urban MisFit Ventures.

Over the next few years his company, following, and opportunities grew. Linkedin had changed his life. He found himself on Wisconsin's 25 under 25 and speaking at events like VidCon and TEDx. The opportunity and income came at a cost though, a TON of his time. Micheal found himself working 80+ hours a week with his life revolving around his business.

After 2 1/2 years of excitement, things came crashing down in 2020. He shut his company down, COVID hit, & his younger brother passed changing his life perspective forever. Everything changed.

Over the next year, things slowed down as he attempted to find his next moves. He dabbled in consulting and podcasting. After that year of reflection, in January 2021, he left entrepreneurship momentarily and become the Marketing Lead at, Lewis Howe's, Greatness Media. After a year, he found himself back into the constant working cycle and felt his work at Greatness Media had run its course despite being a wonderful experience.

This brings us to today where Quentin Michael3 aims to live more and work less.

He is focused on:

  1. Running experiments. Both business and social.
  2. Building a business that supports the lifestyle he wants to live.
  3. Spending more time with his girlfriend and pup.
  4. Learning how to snowboard.

Ashten Wickham and Allison Del Fium are the Co-Hosts of the What the Faith podcast. What The Faith is a space for the faith curious. More specifically, the faith misfits. WTF is more interested in the journey than the destination, more passionate about conversation than conversion, and more driven by empathy than by division. They believe that having meaningful discussions with one another allows us to discover humanity and acknowledge realities beyond our own.

Although they have different backgrounds and perspectives, Ashten and Allison both believe in the power of interfaith discussion. As significant others, navigating a multi-faith relationship, they continue to support one another in their individual faith journeys. They hope their story and work with What The Faith inspires others to learn more about a reality different from their own.

In this episode, many topics related to faith are covered. Allison and Ashten both share their faith journeys thus far and experiences within religion. They talk about their experience navigating faith as an interfaith couple. A reoccurring topic throughout this episode includes how to cultivate the skill of listening to other's perspectives and ideas with an open mind and why this is such an important skill for growth as humans. Also, discussed is why religion has been such an intricate and continuous part of human existence for centuries.

Isabel and Caroline Bercaw are two sisters that started the multi-million dollar company, Da Bomb Bath, at 10 & 11 years old. They've been named EY Entrepreneur of The Year, featured in the Wall Street Journal, we're placed on Forbes 30 under 30, have been on multiple national news networks, and continue to make a splash in the world of bath bombs. What makes them so incredible is not just their entrepreneurial success, but their passion to make an impact for good, their ability to be motivated despite roadblocks, and the habits they've created to support their own growth as individuals.

How it started: As two young girls from Minnesota, they both loved bath bombs but had an idea to make them even better! They decided to come up with a new recipe that doesn't stain or leave any residue, and when the bath bomb is dissolved a surprise is waiting in the middle. They started experimenting and creating bath bombs in their kitchen sink and have grown their business into something bigger than they imagined with over 200 employees. Their company not only provides awesome bath bombs but also helps in making the world a better place through supporting humanitarian efforts. **this session was recorded remotely

Today is the Future with Livi Redden

The Girls Company was started by three female entrepreneurs that met by chance in their BYU entrepreneurship class. Their names are Abby Warner(23), Zoia Ali(21), and Taimi Kennerly(24). What started as a class project soon took off to become the creation of The Girls Company. They have created a cramp alleviating band that can be worn during that lovely time of the month.. shark week aka your period. You insert specially made thin heating pouches into The Band, slip it on under your clothes, and Voila, your free to carry out your day. The Band and warmers are made especially thin so you can't see them at all under your clothes, which makes their product so unique. But the creation of this genius idea did not come easy. The Girls experienced roadblocks around period stigma when working to bring their product to market, as well as, being an all female-founded business in a male-dominated industry. They spent weeks researching, surveying, and planning to create the perfect product to help women everywhere. **This session was recorded remotely

A little about each one of The Girls (from their website (thegirlsco.com)):

Abby Warner: "Abby is from Salt Lake City, Utah. She studies entrepreneurship, with a minor in international development at Brigham Young University. She loves the outdoors, the sun, and of course WOMEN. Abby has worn blue mascara every day since 7th grade. It’s a full look."

Zoia Ali: "Zoia grew up in Dallas, Texas and her parents are originally from Pakistan. She is passionate about social entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial innovation, and female empowerment. She loves to dance, is obsessed (OBSESSED) with Marvel movies, and loves to make people laugh."

Taimi Kennerly: "Taimi grew up in Auckland, New Zealand but moved to the US before she could get her big break in Lord of The Rings. She enjoys solving big problems, spreadsheets, local honey, and DATA. In her free time she bakes, obsesses over game theory, gets lost on the streets of South Africa (don’t tell her mom that last one), has existential crises, and sometimes even sleeps."
