Mrs. Bertha Girdner Logan, 98, of Heidrick, the widow of Randolph Girdner and Glenn “Bud” Logan, passed away Easter Sunday morning, April 17, 2022 at the Barbourville ARH Hospital. She was the daughter of the late James Matt and Cora Evans Bennett born on August 24, 1923 in Knox County. Bertha was one of 13 children.
Bertha was a wife, mother, sister, grandmother and local business woman. She and Randolph owned and operated Girdner’s Restaurant and Grocery in the Heidrick community. Her chili was loved by many and even today people still ask for the recipe. She was an avid antique collector and for many years operated an antique store. Down through the years, she also invested in various rental properties in Barbourville and Heidrick, something she continued to do until her passing. She was a member of the Little Poplar Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Emily Jean Hale; a grandson, Randy Hale and 11 siblings.
Survivors include her daughter, Shirley McCreary of Barbourville; two stepsons, John Logan and Dennis Logan both of Bryants Store; a sister, Sarah Shields of Heidrick; two grandsons, Paul Hale and partner, Michael Grayson, and Christopher Messer; several nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Friday, April 22 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Tim H. Mills and Rev. Jimmy Siler officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Doolin Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be beloved family and friends.
Many have asked and others, no doubt still wonder, what’s the big deal about Easter? This message will answer that question and wonder. Jesus Christ so loves you, and Easter demonstrates that perfectly.
Obituary
Marion Croley Forester, 68, of Harlan, Kentucky, unexpectedly “slipped the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God” on Thursday morning, March 24, 2022.
Croley was born on January 11, 1954, in Jeffersonville, Indiana to Ralph and Wauneth Forester. His family soon returned to Harlan, where he attended Harlan Independent and graduated from James A. Cawood High School in 1972. Croley then attended the University of Kentucky before beginning a lifetime of government service.
Croley was recruited into the United States Air Force, where hisexpertise in mobile radar operations took him all around the world, fueling a love for travel and culture. He was stationed in Germany, where he also played football for the Air Force, Key West, and Seattle, where he played football for a short time with the Seattle Seahawks. He served 8 years altogether, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. After leaving the Air Force, Croley served as an assistant Air Traffic Controller in the FAA, and later served as an Air Operations Drug Interdiction Specialist, Senior Inspector, and Range Master for US Customs. In 1996, Croley brought to light some serious national security issues at Miami International Airport, leading to a congressional investigation, a White House Task Force, and, ultimately,sweeping changes in airport and airline security. During his 24-year career with Customs, Croley was responsible for the confiscation of over 15,000 pounds of cocaine and received more than 30 commendations for exemplary service. In 2010, he retired from a lifetime of service and returned home to Harlan where he became involved in local politics and service projects such as river clean-ups. He served as a Harlan City Councilman, President of the Harlan Rotary Club, and member of the Bishop’s Blue-Ribbon Commission for the Episcopal Diocese of Lexington. Croley was also a founder and the first director ofHarlan’s Appalachian Challenge Academy.
Croley will always be remembered as a loyal friend and patriot. He loved rock and roll, fast cars and motorcycles, and his Chow dogs.
Croley was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Forester, and leaves to mourn his loss his mother, Waun Forester, brothers Frank (Jennifer) and Ed, and scores of family and friends around the world.
Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 pm Tuesday (March 29) at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home. Celebration of Croley’s life will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Tim H. Mills officiating. Music will be provided by Dr. James Greene.

2 Corinthians 5:14-21 lay the foundation of urgency. When something is urgent, it means now. God’s love is required now.

Randy Dewayne Jones, 34 of Arjay, Kentucky entered into eternal life on January 1, 2022. Randy was at his home and was immediately attended to by family present. He was born at the Pineville Community Hospital on October 25, 1987, to his parents, the late Harold Pierce and Katherine Smith Jones. Randy growing up had worked at McDonalds as a Grill Shift Leader and later worked in Harlan in manufacturing. Randy really loved buying, selling, and trading on anything. He enjoyed fixing 4-wheelers and a Ford Mustang was the perfect car for him.
On Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021, Randy united in marriage with Amanda Smith at their home on a beautiful sun shining afternoon, witnessed by family and friends.
Randy leaves behind to remember his life, his wife, Amanda Smith Jones; a daughter, Anne Marie Jones in Detroit, Michigan; Cameron Lee Logan, Kaitlyn Renee Logan, Hailey Louann Logan and his father-in-law, Jimmy Wayne Collett all of Arjay, Kentucky. He also leaves his sisters, Frances Charlene Jones, Linda Marie Jones, Amy Darlene Jones, Mary Ethel Jones; and his brothers, David Glenn Jones, Carlos Wayne Jones, Billy Charles Jones, Harold Ray Jones, and Tommy Lee Jones; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Harold Jones, Jr., Clifford Thomas Jones, and Jerry Lee Jones; maternal grandparents, Simm and Lora Saylor; paternal grandparents, Monroe and Jesse Jones; and mother-in-law, Brenda Lou Smith.
Visitation will be at the Arjay Pentecostal Church on Thursday, January 6, 2021 from 5:00 PM until the funeral hour on Friday at 2:00 PM. Burial will be at the Red Hill Cemetery in Arjay, Kentucky. Rev. Tim H. Mills will be leading Randy’s Life Celebration Service.

Born June 30, 1958 in Pineville, Ky., to late James R and Geraldine Tabor Sloan. She was a member of the Newtown Baptist Church. She passed into eternal life in November 1, 2021 at St Joseph Hospital London, Ky.
She was proceeded in death by the father of her children Harold Mosley and her brother Willard D Shorty Marshall Slone.
She is survived by her children Christopher and wife Hailey and Craig Mosley. Grandchildren Cassidy, Colton, and Christopher Cameron.

My father left Kentucky for Michigan back when he was 17. He had to find work to help support his parents and little sister Peggy Ann. My mother joined my father in Michigan after they were married in 1956. All my siblings, we were born in Warren, Michigan.
We attended the First Free Will Baptist Church in Warren and to this day those memories are cherished as a part of my spiritual heritage.
Christianity is relevant because of the action Jesus has taken for us. Christianity becomes important when we understand our relevance to Him
To understand God’s purpose and plan, understanding the requirements for a cedar tree to grow might just be you answer.

The brother of Jesus, James, teaches that we need to be not only heaters, but doing. He includes a list of things for us to do too, but he first begins with the fact we are God’s gift. James 1:17-28.
Ephesians 6:10-20 tell us how and why we need to be able to stand. Who is Jesus?...., is then question we must each be able to answer for ourselves. John 6:56-69 is a reminder for us to consider what we understand, what to do when we don't understand and will we follow Jesus or will we too go?
Ephesians 5:15-20 instructs Christians to live wisely, not as fools. Be aware of our opportunities, don’t be thoughtless and don’t get drunk on wine.
We all know those folks who live by the motto “do as I say and not as I do.” Jesus called the disciples to follow Him and they left it all immediately.
Biblical know it all’s, Jesus dealt with such folks too. John chapter 6: is a great example of such an attitude.
Today the incoming freshman and transfers walked onto campus as a Union College Bulldog. The returning players also return today and “Preacher” welcome them at Bowman Chapel.

This message is directed to God’s leaders and the leadership of God’s people. There is nothing new in the Bible about sheep and shepherds, however this message is a good self-reflection for every minister and for ever follower of Jesus
Celebrating Love is always fun. Two individual lives making commitments to each other and announcing their heart commitment to the world.
This is a celebration memorial service for Roellen Carnes Stoerr who was born at Dewitt, Ky on Stinking Creek in Knox County. Her memorial service was conducted at her family cemetery named Binghamtown Cemetery. Her remains are now beside her husband Raymond.
Her legacy descriptive was love, education and generosity in her obituary. Rev Tim H Mills added history to that legacy and used “Roe’s” own words to memorialize her life here among us.

Celebrating love should be the easiest thing we as Ministers do. Faith is good and hope is good but love is not just great scripture records it as the greatest.
I had the distinct honor of officiating the wedding off my niece Morgan Alexandria Mills and new nephew Coke Philpot.
This service is a celebration of love and commitment.
Brenda was the mother to Samatha Smith and Amanda Jones. Her beloved grandson was Nathan Smith. Her life partner of 31 years was Jimmy Wayne Collett A homemaker who loved her family and friends, would do anything she could for others and did her best to leave an impact on all she met.

A celebration of Day Days life, while challenging, is also easy, because of the impact he had on people. Joshua 1:9 and the hymn Day by Day are perfect for remembering his life.
Paul defined family by knowing who and what He believe about Jesus Christ. Mark wrote about Jesus’ family and an issue they had with Him. Who was Jesus’ family. In this message Jesus answers that question for Himself.
If we believe, then we are in the air with God and a cold air with Jesus. Nicodemus would learn directly from Jesus what it was to be a follower.
1 John 4: we get God’s understanding of love and from John 15: we learn what needs to happen if we are connected to the vine.
It’s easy with words to say we are a follower of Jesus. Jesus described exactly what He meant in 1 John 3: and in John 10: Tim shares this message is one where we must ask ourselves some personal questions.
In the Old Testament God described Himself as “I Am”.
In the New Testament Jesus used God’s Covenant term in John 15: and in John 18:
In the Bible God declares “I Am” 35 times in scripture. The more we understand about who God is, the greater picture we will have of who we are in Him.
If you want to be encouraged this message will do that by opening you up to the truths of God’s character.
Real love is defined in 1 Corinthians 13: Two people committed to to using one umbrella during the rain have discovered one of the keys to a successful marriage.

Jesus had said many times the hour is not now, my time hasn’t come, yet in John 12: Jesus finally says the hour has come. God had an old Covenant in Jeremiah 32: and Jesus was establishing a new Covenant with His death.
Foolishness is what some in Jesus’ days thought of the Gospel, and even today, others we know think the Gospel is foolishness, but it is the power of our salvation.
Abraham received a promise from God and he experienced God’s blessings. Jesus wanted His disciples to understand the mindset of God and not the worlds view of seeing things.
In Genesis Noah had to hear God speak and then follow His instructions. All way before a rainbow. But because Noah took this step, this happened. Then this because of this happened.
In Mark 1:9-15 Jesus came as God’s Son. It was one step. Because of His obedience, this happened and then because of this, that happened. John was arrested, (remember he has been preaching repentance) so Jesus step up. One thing leads to another.
The first Sunday in February is Scout Sunday and we salute our Troop 149. 109 years ago our church organized the first troop in Harlan County.
From Mark 1:29-39 we discover what I call Bible Merit Badges that Jesus and His first Troop were involved in.
Mary and Joseph had a responsibility and a duty after Jesus was born to present Him in the Tempke and dedicate Him to God. Luke 2:22-40 tells that story and the introduction of Simeon and Prophet Anna.
Some saw folks hungry and fed them. Thirsty and gave drink. They saw a stranger and welcomed them. Naked and were clothes, sick and cared, in prison and visited them. Others saw but did nothing.
Isaiah had the feeling of frustration and wondered how God could love constant sinners. Yet He does, because his ways are higher than ours, His plan and purpose we can’t understand, but He is always at work and loves us.
Ms. Emily Jean Hale, 76, of Barbourville, passed away Friday evening, October 30, 2020 at the Barbourville ARH Hospital. She was the daughter of Bertha Bennett Logan and the late Randolph Girdner born on July 16, 1944 at Bryants Store.
Emily was a former employee of Treadway Brothers and a member of the Locust Grove Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Paul Kenneth Hale and companion, Michael Grayson, of Mansura, LA; her mother, Bertha Logan of Heidrick; a sister, Shirley McCreary of Barbourville; her long-time companion, Jack Sterling of Harlan; a grandson Justin Smith and wife, Tarah of Barbourville; two great granddaughters, Averie and Rylie Kate; among other loved ones and dear friends
Funeral Services were conducted by Rev Tim H Mills and Rev Dennis Chestnut. Rev Mills sang It is well and The Solid Rock.

Jack was married to Belinda and together these two lived life to the fullest. Laughing, loving on family and friends with each step in life. Jack was also known as Santa Jack. He was a helper for Santa Clause and all his work. He was a wood carver and loved making animal figurines and canes. He served in the United States Navy and he loved making canes for Veterans. There is no known number to calculate how many he has made but it was hundreds upon hundreds. He never met a stranger and he enjoyed serving others. From his church to 4-H to his civic work in his community in Anniston, Alabama.

The First Presbyterian Church is the host of Boy Scout Troop #149 in Harlan County, Kentucky. The 1st Sunday in February is Scout Sunday. This year Union College Head Football Coach John Luttrell was the guest speaker. John was also a Commander of the Kentucky National Guard #149th. BSA Troop #149 took their unit number as their troop number.

Encounter Community Church is located in Owensboro, KY. Rev. Will Zik is their Senior Pastor and this Volunteer Banquet was designed to Celebrate their ministry wins in 2019. Over 60 church volunteers were honored and Pastor Tim was their guest speaker for the event.
Tim spoke about Isaiah and John the Baptist as volunteers and he challenged the church volunteers to answer the question why they serve with the word ‘mercy’ as their answer.
In Isaiah 60: we discover the care of God and His promises to us. There is plenty there to imagine from scripture. Then we hear from Paul in Ephesians 3:, his own testimony about a mystery from God that is finally revealed. There is plenty to imagine too.
Then we read from Matthew 2: about the Wise Men who saw the star rise and stop in search of Jesus. They were bearing gifts and wanted to honor the baby Jesus and they did find Him.
Herod had asked them to return to him once they had found where Jesus was but because of a dream they did not. Can you imagine that dream and experience?
Matthew chapter 1:18-25 provides the perfect background to explore Joseph, Jesus’ father, thoughts about his relationship with Mary and what, if anything, would change his mind. This episode begins with our church instrumentalist providing a great prelude.

Sometimes scripture gives us so much to learn. Our Faith in action brings results. Paul wrote in 2 Timothy about his faith and belief. It was all a part of his story of following Jesus. Naaman was a mighty warrior but he had a grave problem that challenged his was over thinking, all thanks to his wife’s maid servant that had been captured in one of his conquest. From Luke 17 we discover what happens when we take the first step of faith.
The Apostles ask Jesus to increase their faith in Luke 17:5-10. This scripture passage Jesus in sharing the parable about the mustard seed, mulberry tree and what to expect as to “doing what we should have done”
The Apostle Paul shared in 2 Timothy 1:1-14 as to why he did what he should be doing and the message from that day is still valid for us today.
“Sometimes we are scared to talk about of scriptures that are difficult to understand”, Pastor Tim said. In this message he explains what Jesus was teaching through the parable of Luke 16: He tells who the characters are, what the manager had planned and what Jesus was teaching by sharing this parable.
The Apostle Paul writes to Timothy expressing his faith in God, describing his personal sin and the forgiveness he discovered through Jesus Christ. From the Book of Luke Jesus tells two parables from which we see the heart of God.
The Apostle Paul writes the letter to Philemon and from the book of Luke Jesus talks about following him and what it means to be a disciple.

Jesus is in Bethany for a meal when Judas questions a gift giver about the their actions toward Jesus. This message has questions for us too. The fact that Jesus is present also provides a unique opportunity for us to be spontaneous with our actions.
Luke Chapter 13: verses 1-9 lays out plenty of questions and answers. Does God punish people here on earth for their sins? It’s a question that many believe or have believed the answer is true.

A question to Jesus changes everything in the life of one individual. From Job’s life he confesses he has learned so much because of his suffering.
We all have challenges before us and how we approach each challenge can make all the difference.
From the Book of Job, God and Job had plenty of conversation about who could do what and about plans. The Book of Hebrews tells us that because of the suffering of Jesus and because He was obedient He was made perfect as our Savior and Lord.
James and John asked Jesus about sitting on His right and left when He came into His Kingdom. The other disciples were upset when they learned what they had asked Him. If we are willing to look at this situation and understand what Jesus had just said to the disciples there is much we can learn.
HICKS, Douglas C. (1956 - 2018)
Mr. Douglas Critt Hicks, 61, of Corbin, the husband of Margaret Ann “Peggy” Pope Hicks, passed away Friday morning, August 31, 2018 at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard. He was the son of Bobbie Jean Mills Hicks and the late Alton Ray Hicks.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Monday, September 3 at 2 P.M. with the following: Music by his cousins Donnie & Linda Mills. Obituary by Larry Brown. James "Buzz" Boyd Buzard, Jr., passed away peacefully from this life on Monday, July 2, 2018. He was born November 1, 1948 to Ruth Longhenry and the late James Boyd Buzard, Sr. He was a 1966 graduate of Springdale High School in Springdale, PA, outside of Pittsburgh. He then graduated from Morehead State University with a degree in business education. While at MSU, he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, and served as their treasurer. In 1984, he and his family moved from Westerville, OH to Lexington, where he worked for Bluegrass Mailing Services. He worked for them in outside sales for 30 years until he retired in 2014.
Buzz was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and followed the UK Wildcats, Paul Laurence Dunbar Bulldogs, and the Franklin County Flyers. He was a member of the Dunbar High School football chain crew for 19 years.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Karen; mother, Ruth; sister, Barbie; son, Chris (Mary); daughter, Nancy Hill (Keith), as well as 4 grandchildren, Luke, Leah, Elizabeth, and James. He is preceded in death by his father.
The family would like to thank all of their family, friends, neighbors, and caregivers who have helped so much during this difficult time.
The family will receive visitors from 6-7:30 PM, Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Clark Legacy Center, Brannon Crossing. A Celebration of Life ceremony will follow at 7:30 PM, with the Rev Tim H Mills leading the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to his memory to Hospice of the Bluegrass.

Thoughts of my great-grandfather come to my mind each time I sing this song. His story of coming to Jesus was one in which ask Jesus to hear his cry and call. For him, he was sitting on a wagon in the barn when he knew his hour of decision had come. Stinking Creek in Knox County Ky at Mills, Ky will always be home. Shannon and I sing duet on this hymn.

The Temple had been in a remodeling phase for 46 years and it still wasn’t complete. The Jews totally misunderstood what Jesus was talking about when He said “destroy the temple and in 3 days I’ll build it again”. They could not imagine such...especially since they had been rebuilding the past 46 years.
A MISUNDERSTANDING totally. Yet while some people were totally confused by the words of Jesus, still others believed. We must be careful when listening to Jesus to make sure we don’t add our personal bias to His words and interpret His Will from our perspective.
Hypocrisy is one subject that is easy to talk about, especially when we are pointing out that others are hypocrites. How fried Chicken becomes a part of the conversation is one that will require you to listen to the message and find out.
The First Presbyterian Church in Harlan, Ky., hosted the Honor Court Ceremony for Story Miller as he was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout.
Story’s project was one that includes interviews, videos and music. He captured the music of the City of Harlan by interviews with church organist of Harlan Christian, First United Methodist, Harlan Baptist, Christ Epispocal and The First Presbyterian Church. All who played their organs and shared the history and uniqueness of their instruments.
The Pipe Organs of Harlan is a unique video history and Story Miller with the help of others earned the rank of Eagle Scout for his efforts. This recording captures the Honor Court Ceremony and serves as a historical record of his Eagle Scout achievement.
Jesus was asked about taxes in Matthew 22:15-22 and his response was give to the government that which is required and give unto God what is His. The question we are left asking is what does God require?
Founded in October 1887, on October 15, 2017 The First Presbyterian Church congregation, family, friends, former minister and former members all gathered to celebrate the churches impact and history.
This service highlights the individual decisions by Linda Welch and Billy Baird to unite as husband and wife. The ceremony took place at the First Baptist Church of Cheona in Bell County, Kentucky.
The Bible in Matthew 21:33-46 tells is a parable Jesus shared about a landowner who had rented out his fields for planting. The story leads to Jesus talking about a cornerstone that the builders rejected.
You and I have a choice. We can pray to join God in His work or He has the option to take away the harvest because of our lack of production.
So a question was asked of Jesus and He decided to only answer their question if they would answer His. Then he shared the Parable of Two Sons. One son said no to the fathers request. The other son said yes. Which son would you say was a good son? The answer is not complicated, but it is challenging.
What happens when we say NO to Jesus? What happens when we say YES? The answer can be complicated but not so complicated if the words NO or YES are a combination of words and action.
'Joe Tom' Ledford was a friend to many, a husband to Gail, a father to his sons Dane and Mark. His grandchildren loved him and on September 10, 2017 his family, friends and church gathered to celebrate his life.

What understanding must we have to be a positive follower of Jesus in order to keep pushing on. Understanding the people we will meet as we tell others about Jesus is a must so we don't become discouraged.
Kathy Jean Harbin, age 62, passed away Monday, July 10th, 2017, at the Middlesboro ARH.
She was born in Salina, Kansas, on December 18, 1954, and was the daughter of the late Billy E. Harbin Sr. and Muriel Calloway Harbin, who survives.
In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by her grandparents: Virgil and Ellen Harbin and Richard and Alpha Calloway.
Kathy was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend to many. She enjoyed reading books and was an avid crocheter. Kathy was very passionate and cared with her whole heart, and she gave ceaselessly.
Kathy was saved and baptized at Varilla Baptist Church and later moved her membership to Wasioto Baptist Church.
Her love for NASCAR was known by all as she watched all races with love and compassion.
Kathy worked at Jerry’s Restaurant for many years and was part of a Thursday Night bowling team.
Kathy had many pets. Temit was her pride and joy and stayed by her side endlessly. Peekaboo was special to her also and was very dear to her heart.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by the following members of her family:

Funeral services were held at the Creech Funeral Home at Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 8pm. with the Rev. Ron Howard presided with special music by Benny Howard. Nephew Tyler Harbin read a poem his aunt wrote and niece Morgan Mills read an essay and shared a personal reflection.
Graveside services will be at 2:00pm on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at the Green Hills Memorial Gardens
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 15, 2017, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Creech Funeral Home.

Meredith James Miller, 68 of Arjay, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at his home. James was born on August 18, 1948, and was a son of the late Ernest and Troy Brummett Miller. He believed in the Pentecostal faith and had worked as a Coal Miner, spending most of his career with the Great Western Coal Company and the James River Coal Company. James was also Vietnam Veteran, having proudly served his country in the United States Navy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Gearldine Engle.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Wilma Jane Bailey Miller; children, Tony Miller and wife, Elizabeth, James Eric Lynn Miller, Kim Arnett, David Sanders and wife, Stephanie, and Angel Siler and husband, Robert; grandchildren, Austin Wilder, Megan Wilder and Isabella Blue Miller; extra special grandbabies, Gavin Sanders, Keaton Siler and Brylee Siler; brothers and sisters, Roy Miller and wife, Sondra, Lonnie Miller, Noel Miller, Kathy Martin and husband, Gilbert, Rosalee Brock, Rita Jeffers and husband, Larry, and Ernest Lee Miller; special friends, Charles and Rosemary Mosley, Charlie Lawson and Doyle Caldwell and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 14, at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev Tim H Mills and Rev Charles Mosley Officiating. Burial followed in the Woolum Cemetery at Arjay with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
HARLAN — Michael Townsend Buttermore, 65, of Mary Alice, passed from this life after a long illness on June 1, 2017 in Lexington, Kentucky.
A gathering of family and friends will be at First Presbyterian Church on Thursday, July 13, 2017 from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm with a Memorial Service to immediately follow at the church. Interment will be at Resthaven Cemetery following the church services. Rev Tim H Mills presiding with Rev John Nelson-Pope providing family reflections. Special music by Mr Mrs Parker Boggs.

He entered into eternity on August 18, 2016 surrounded by the love of his family. His faith in the free gift of love and forgiveness now a reality.
This service begins with "Last Call" by the Bell County Volunteer Fire Department, music by his cousins, reflections from all three of his children and a music sung by "Elvis Wade" Cummins. James Ernest pitch quarters to Wade when Wade was just a little boy to sing like Elvis Presley....from which he has spent his life singing.
The Honorable Jeffrey Janes Brock served the people of Harlan County, Kentucky as their District Judge and the people of the Commonwealth through his elected office and his court.
This service celebrates his life in words spoken by his best friend Mark David Goss, his former pastor Rev Charlie Morris and Rev Tim H. Mills who served as the service officiant.

The wedding ceremony was conducted on the campus of Clear Creek Baptist Bible College in Pineville, Kentucky at Kelly Hall. Patrick Cross originally from Florida united in marriage to Sabrina Warren of Arjay, Kentucky. The couple after their honeymoon will reside in Richmond, Ky.
A wedding ceremony was a celebration of love with 1 Corinthians chapter 13: serving as the foundation for love as the greatest gift. Patrick & Sabrina are filled with energy and excitement. Their personalities for laughter, fun and smiles are a perfect match.

A Celebration of Life was held at the Anderson-Laws Jones Funeral Home on Friday, June 19, 2015 with the Reverend Tim H Mills Officiating.
Mastin G Smith was born in Harlan, Ky on July 1, 1930 and entered into eternal life on Sunday, June 14, 2015.
Unexpectedly at the first of November 2014, Tim was hospitalized for an infection in a toe on his right foot. This resulted in an immediate amputation at the University of Kentucky Good Samaritan Hospital and later a subsequent removal of his metatarsal bone in that foot at the University of Tennessee Hospital.
The medical issues were complicated but also very straight forward at the beginning. What followed was a series of complications that included infections from multiple sources attacking his system all at once, blood issues which included a transfusion, diabetic challenges, kidney issues, arthritic flair ups attacking ankles, heels, knees, arms and shoulders to share a few of the medical complications he has faced and continues to face.
After 51 days of hospitalization in February Tim was transferred from the University of Tennessee Hospital to a nursing home & rehabilitation center near his parents home in Arjay, Ky. He is continuing to battle for quality of life and he has made tremendous improvements. Tim's recovery is going to require time as his body fights to regain lost protein and as he begins to build muscle strength through physical therapy.

She lived among us 77 years. A wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. 'Flo' was a unique character how loved everything outdoors and whose favorite hymn was How Great Thou Art. Sometimes life requires time to understand and 'Flo's' life faced hardship but there were distinct moments that when taken into context of her entire life paints a picture that creates a celebration of her life. Honoring her as she was and celebrating the impact she had gives life meaning and purpose. This is it a typical funeral....and that's perfect. Her life wasn't typical and her family loved her and this Celebration service honors her & her life....as'Flo'.

The services rotate location among the First Presbyterian Church, Harlan Methodist, Christ Episodical and the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. The message is also delivered on a rotating bases too.
Rev Kyle Burnette is the pastor of the Harlan Methodist Church and the First Presbyterian Church hosted the service and the fellowship meal which followed the service.
Rev Burnette grew up in Rose Hill, Virginia and served as pastor in Tazewell, Virginia, Baxter Methodist and he became the pastor of Harlan Methodist in 2008.
The University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service host a #TeenSummit each year at Jabez, KY at the Lake Cumberland 4-H Center. There were three weekend sessions this year and I was honored to be the keynote speaker at all three events. This is the 3rd weekend and what a great weekend!

The University of Kentucky, College of AG, Cooperative Extension Services host teens from across Kentucky at the Lake Cumberland 4H Camp & Educational Center in Jabez, Ky. This is my 2nd weekend serving as the Keynote Speaker for their event.
My motivational topic is #SuperHero and I share with these students the difference between 'Super Hero's' and "real Super Hero's'. Real life stories of motivation, courage and making a difference. My belief is that the youth of today are and can be #SuperHero individuals in their communities, schools, friends, Kentucky and the world.
Change never occurs without a serious conversation. Jesus & Nicodemus had a conversation that created #LifeChange For Nicodemus the change continued everyday. Our last record of his actions included him working to secure a resting place for the body of Jesus.

Wearing a Big Black Robe on Sunday Morning, today I got excited sharing that there are 'NO SHORT CUTS'! There is plenty to learn from Jesus and His experience of 40 days and 40 nights. Lent represents that time period and this message is designed to be an encouragement for us to continue to press forward through all things, including temptation.

The First Presbyterian Church in Harlan, Ky started the first Boy Scout Troop South of the Ohio River in 1912. 102 years later the Boy Scouts still meet monthly in the church and today this remains the only Boy Scout Troop in Harlan County, Ky.
Honored to speak and demonstrate the connection between the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and Christianity. Scouts earn badges and wear clothing that is uniquely identifiable. Christians should be easily identifiable too by wearing two distinct badges. "Salt" and "Light".

Coach Erik Wesley Thomas invited me to come and speak with his 6th grade boys basketball team. After thinking about what to share I went with the connect between the children's book "Old Yeller" and Basketball. There are three things that if 6th graders learn today their lives will be guaranteed great successes in life & basketball.
At the beginning of the season I had the unique opportunity to speak to the student athletes at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School 8th grade team.
It is not everyday I speak to 8th grade teams but I have know Coach Dan Flaig since his days of playing high school basketball. When your friendship goes back that far you step up to help a friend and his team when he calls.
These girls accomplished a lot during the 2013-2014 basketball season. I am just excited and thankful to be a part of their season and experience.

DREW BARKER He was the quarterback at Conner High School in Hebron, Kentucky throughout his high school career, and while he dreamed of playing basketball for the University of Kentucky, he will live another dream instead. He was the highly sought after recruit and Coach Mark Stoops was able to sign for the Big Blue Nation #BBN 2014 Football Season. Drew graduates from high school December 2013 and January 2014 he walks onto the Campus of the University of Kentucky as a Wildcat and a quarterback!

Everyone month First Priority Clubs have a meeting and Conner High School's Club Day was a "Hook" Week. Tim shared with the students the 4 Spiritual Laws. If you have never heard of them, this will be a great 10 minutes and the way Tim presented them to the students gathered was very clear and straight to the point. His stories and illustrations pack this quick message but this presentation is a life changer.
Coach Dan Flaig scheduled me to speak to his 8th grade girls basketball team at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School in Burlington, Kentucky. Gladly accepting the invitation it was my challenge to speak on the theme of "Do Your Job".
Coach Dan Flaig also wanted me to speak about sports officiating and specifically the block/charge & illegal use of hands to his team. I also shared some of my favorite sports scriptures and a poem that Coach Dan has heard many times over the past 22 years of our friendship.
Paul Anglin, Executive Director of First Priority of Northern Kentucky invited Tim to come and share during 'Inspire' Week at Conner High School. The 7am event had students gathering for donuts and the talk. Tim began talking about relationships, good ones & bad ones. Then he shared how we should be inspired by the relationship Jesus offers us and that we can run boldly to His friendship.
Tim spoke to the Student Athletes at Conner High School with the Boy's Basketball Program. He shared some unique historical connections from Black Star, KY to Northern Kentucky through Coach Bill Warfield.
He challenged the student athletes and shared a story about a 5'11" 200lb athlete from Birmingham, Alabama. Tim concluded his talk with the famous Man in the Glass poem, which also has a historical connection with the basketball program at Conner High School in Burlington, KY.
Tim served as the guest speaker at the Oldham County 4H Awards Banquet in La Grange, Ky.
