The Layman's Guide to the Lectionary: Recent Episodes

Many churches use a lectionary, a series of Bible readings, in their worship together. In a one year lectionary, you would read the same Scriptures in church this weekend next year that you would read this weekend. In this podcast, we will do a weekly Bible study (50-60 minutes) on the LCMS' three year lectionary, which is what we use in the congregation I serve. Our lectionary includes an Old Testament reading, Epistle reading, and Gospel reading. It is Pastor Andrews' goal to help you grow deeper in your understanding and love of God's Word. This weekend our churches celebrate Pentecost, the 50th day after Easter, when God pours out His Spirit upon the Church. Readings include Numbers 11:24-30, Acts 2:1-21, and John 7:37-39.
For the final week of the Easter season, we study from Acts 1:12-26, 1 Peter 4:12-19; 5:6-11, and John 17:1-11.
Our texts this week deal with our connection to Christ in His suffering and in His resurrection, and how we can witness these things to our neighbor. We read from Acts 17:16-31, 1 Peter 3:13-22, and John 14:15-21.

Many churches use a lectionary, that is a series of Bible readings that are used in their worship together. In a one year lectionary, you would read the same Scriptures in church this weekend next year that you would read this weekend. In this podcast, we will do a weekly Bible study (45-60 minutes) on the LCMS' three year lectionary, which is what we use in the congregation I serve. Our lectionary includes an Old Testament reading, Epistle reading, and Gospel reading, for each week of the church calendar year. It is my goal to help you grow deeper in your understanding of God's Word by providing context and commentary, as well as showing you how these verses all point you to who Jesus is and what He's done for you!
