Join Sports Interns Gillian and Ryan as we talk all things sport and physical activity and tell the stories of some of our students, staff and alumni!
Join Ryan this week as he chats with the TU Dublin Men's Premier Division Soccer team and St. Patrick's Athletic Academy head coaches in Jamie Moore and Niall Cully. We discuss the hugely successful college year that the guys had with the TU Dublin Men's Premier Division side, winning a CUFL Premier Division League and CFAI Cup double. Both Jamie and Niall discuss their experiences with the team this year and all that worked so well in helping them to achieve such success in the first year of the merge of TU Dublin. They also chat about their individual backgrounds and experience working in elite level football as well as sharing some memorable stories that they have experienced along the way. In addition to this, there is plenty of valuable tips and insights provided by the guys throughout the episode that could be very useful to up and coming coaches trying to make their way through the ranks within the footballing industry.Â
Join Ryan as he chats with our former Sports Development Intern here in TU Dublin Blanchardstown and one of the stars of this year's TG4 Underdogs series, Aisling Kane.Â
Aisling chats about her experience throughout the Underdogs series this year, from her favourite memories with the group to the best pieces of advice she received along the way from various legends of the GAA and what it was like to face the reigning All-Ireland Champions, Meath.Â
We also discuss Aisling's role as a Games Promotion Officer with Dublin GAA as she provides some interesting and valuable insights into the sports industry and coaching in particular. Additionally, we chat about Aisling's time here working as the Sports Development Intern in TU Dublin Blanchardstown and the valuable experience she gained for going forward into her future career.Â
Join Ryan as he chats with Birmingham City Women's striker and former TU Dublin Elite Scholarship student Eleanor Ryan Doyle. This is Eleanor's second appearance on the podcast as she discusses her new move to Birmingham City in the Women's Super League after transferring from Peamount United and her new life living in England.Â
She also reflects on her time here in TU Dublin Blanchardstown studying Sports Management and Coaching as well as completing a Master of Business degree before making the move across to Birmingham. Eleanor chats all about her experiences and memories of playing sport and studying during her time here in the college as well as the benefits she found in completing her two degrees before taking step into professional football.Â
We discuss Eleanor's goals and aspirations for the future both with Birmingham and the Irish Women's National team to further add to an already highly impressive career so far.Â
Join Ryan as he chats with Bray Wanderers striker and TU Dublin elite scholarship student Rob Manley. Rob is in his final year in TU Dublin Blanchardstown studying International Business.Â
He has also had an impressive career in the League of Ireland to date in terms of both individual and team awards. In 2019, Rob was named the PFAI SSE Airtricity League First Division Player of the Year and finished the season as the league's top goal scorer. He was also part of the Blanchardstown squad that won the CUFL Division 1 title that year, earning promotion to the top flight of third level football. Rob continued this form into the 2020 season after moving from Cabinteely FC to Longford Town FC where they won promotion to SSE Airtricity League Premier Division in which he scored the match winner in the play-off final.Â
This is Rob's second appearance on the podcast as he chats about his experiences in football as well as college life in Blanchardstown. He also discusses his new move to Bray Wanderers/Cabinteely FC and linking back up with his former manager Pat Devlin for the upcoming SSE Airtricity League First Division season.Â

Sandra Thompson, co-leader of the Student Transformative Learning Record (STLR) Programme alongside Paul Dervan in TU Dublin Blanchardstown joins Dan for this episode. They chat about what STLR is and how itâs been introduced to our campus; from visiting the Programmeâs birthplace in the University of Central Oklahoma in the USA, to rolling it out with our School of Business students in Semester 1 this year. Sandra highlights how beneficial STLR is for students in relation to developing soft skills that employers are looking for in potential employees. 2nd year Sports Management and Coaching Student Ciaran OâSullivan joins Kelly for Episode 10. Ciaran talks about his love for football and an injury he picked up âosteitis pubisâ which meant he was out of any sporting action for 20 months. During the months of recovery his mental health took a huge hit and he speaks about the mental and physical challenges he had to overcome, along with setbacks during his rehabilitation. From thinking he may not play football again to that physiological readiness to get back to action. He has since joined Leixlip United and plays for our menâs Premier Division Football team in TU Dublin Blanchardstown and talks about finding his love for football again from the support he received. 2nd year SMCO student Lauren Duffy joins Tiffany in Episode #9. Lauren gives us an insight into her sporting experience in Karate and the obstacles she was faced with throughout her time as a competitor. Lauren opens up about her struggle with mental health during and after her time in Karate. She describes how her experience in sport led her to become the strong minded person she is today! Tiffany also asks Lauren about her transition into Mixed Martial Arts and how she adapted to a new sport. 4th Year SMCO student & Womenâs Soccer Elite Scholarship recipient Eleanor Ryan Doyle joins Dan for this episode. Ellie had a hugely successful 2019, which included: winning the SĂł Hotels Womenâs National League with her club Peamount United FC and reaching the FAI Cup final in the Aviva for the second year in a row, being voted into the WNL Team of the Year and shortlisted for WNL Player of the Year, representing TU Dublin and Team Ireland in the World University Games in Naples, Italy, receiving her first Senior Womenâs National Team call up for a friendly against current world champions, the USA and then being called up for a second time for a qualifier vs Montenegro and how the new WNT Manager Vera Pauw has helped her. Ellie also brings us through her introduction to football and how playing âwith the boysâ in her younger years and in teams above her own age has helped shape her into the player she is today. She tells Dan how losing to Wexford Youths FC in the Aviva two years in a row impacted her mentally and how she used it as motivation. We also looked back on her time representing us in Third Level Football, playing in the cage, her first WUG in 2017, being a role model to other players and the good memories made along the way. Ellie finishes off by telling us about her personal and team goals for the new season, when the WNL does eventually return. ---

SMCO alumnus Tadhg Branagan joins Dan for this episode where they chat about his time so far working in New York as a Games Development Officer for Rockland GAA. Tadhg gives an overview of his time as a student in ITB/TU Dublin Blanchardstown and his involvement in sport on campus before telling us how he ended up as a GDO over 5,000km away from home after graduating in November 2019. He gives an insight into the sporting culture in America, how he's trying to put his own spin on it and how he's had to adapt in order to progress. Tadhg also explains how what he learned as part of the SMCO course has been integral to his success in Rockland and recalls the time he was gifted a signed pair of Stephen Cluxton's gloves by a Kerry man! Networking and continuous learning/development is something Tadhg speaks passionately about and outlines how important it has been for him on his journey so far. He offers some advice and resources (linked below) to current students on how to take advantage of these things to help become the best version of yourself.

Join Kelly as she speaks to Aimee Clarke, 3rd year Sports Management and Coaching Student and one of our High Performance Scholarship recipients for womenâs rugby. Aimee talks about her transition from dancing to starting Rugby at 18 years old. Now 21, Aimee has played with Leinster in the Interpros and represented Ireland in Aussie Rules. She speaks about the challenges she faced with injuries and how she stayed motivated. Join Dan as he talks with Colin Mccabe and Daniel McKenna, goalkeeper and captain of our Men's Soccer 1st Team and Elite Scholarship students. Colin and Daniel currently play for Shelbourne FC in the League of Ireland Premier Division, with both previously playing professionally abroad in Scotland and England with Celtic and Wolves respectively. Dan chats with the lads about their time abroad: leaving home at 16 years of age and living in a different country, having to mature quickly, going on loan, "chasing the dream" and more. They discuss coming home to play in the #GreatestLeagueInTheWorld, the feeling of "failure", going back to education and playing Third Level Football in the cage. Colin and Daniel also give us an overview of their time with Shels to date, including winning the First Division in 2019 and getting promoted back to the Premier Division and how they're continuing to work hard off the pitch during isolation.Â

Join Dan as he chats with Steven Harris, 3rd Year Sports Management & Coaching student. Steven talks honestly about being a menâs physique competitor, and the challenges that come with it. We speak about his passion for business, being selected as a 6th Year in secondary school to attend the BT Business Bootcamp and creating a start-up company that was listed in Enterprise Ireland's "Top 100 Start-Ups". We also recall the time Steven carried 100kg for 5km in aid of mental health charities, discuss starting our Enactus Society on campus and he offers some advice to students on how to remain productive while self-isolating.
