Grant Heaton is six years old and was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at age three. Duchenne is a genetic disease that destroys muscle, all of them. According to Morning Consult surveys, 74% of farmers and farmworkers have been directly impacted by the opioid epidemic. The data was sponsored by the American Farm Bureau Federation and National Farmers Union as the two farm groups join forces to combat the issue. The Morning Consult data also revealed, "three in four farmers say it would be easy for someone in their community to access opioids illegally, and just under half of rural adults – 46 percent – say the same."

He suffered a broken back at a rodeo in Texas when his bareback horse flipped over on him on September 22nd. JR is a man of faith who is an incredible advocate for the sport of rodeo and lives his life for Jesus Christ.

In 1968, ranchers from across the West signed off on a new concept of advocacy for public lands ranching. For the last 50 years, the concept that became the Public Lands Council (PLC) has represented the cattle and sheep producers who hold public lands grazing permits. The PLC advocates for these western ranchers who preserve our nation’s natural resources while providing vital food and fiber to the nation and the world.
Ethan Lane, Executive Director of the PLC sat down with Ag. Broadcaster Lane Nordlund and shared how the PLC has created a permanent seat at multiple tables for the nations public lands ranchers and advocating for the multiple use of the nations public lands.
The Montana Angus Association feels it is important to involve Montana State, as our land grant university, in the production of Angus seedstock to enable MSU to conduct research and educate students on the Angus breed and seedstock operation systems. The goal is to provide a registered Angus beef cattle herd and management system that optimizes opportunities for MSU’s students and faculty. The MSU Angus Program will: • Provide a future platform for excellence in teaching and research. • Encourage and enhance collaboration with the Montana beef industry. • Offer opportunities through collaboration with MAA and its members for student interaction, job opportunities, and internships within the beef industry. • Develop teaching and research programs that reflect the needs of beef producers in the state of Montana.
Chad Osguthorpe and his family are apart of the more than 22,000 cattle and sheep producers who hold public lands grazing permits. Public land ranchers, like Osguthorpe, maintain 250 million acres of U.S. public land. Osguthorpes raise sheep in Utah. The Osguthorpe family grazes sheep in on the resort in Park City, UT. That is where the Public Lands Council is set to hold it's 50th Annual Meeting at the end of September. Industrial Hemp (iHemp) is an emerging crop in Montana and is growing in popularity through a pilot program sponsored by the Montana Department of Agriculture. There is a lot of questions and misinformation about the crop across the countryside. To learn more about the history, in's and outs, and hoops growers have to jump through to plant iHemp I headed to the Johnson Ranch north of Conrad, MT. Colby Johnson and his family have been growing iHemp through the pilot programs for two seasons now, and they are excited about the possibilities the new crop will bring to their farm.

Allison Rivera with the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association talks about the introduction of the Transporting Livestock Across America Safely (TLAAS) Act, saying it would reform federal Hours of Service (HOS) rules in a way that ensures animal welfare, highway safety, and the well-being of livestock haulers.
The Hell's A-Roarin' Horse Drive started in 1982 as a way for outfitter Warren Johnson to move horses from Gardiner, MT to his ranch. Since then it has turned into an annual Memorial Day Weekend Event.
This year's proceeds will be used to purchase an Action Trackchair for a disabled Montana Veteran. These chairs are custom built and allow folks with disabilities to reclaim their freedom, independence, and mobility in the outdoors!
The horse drive will be held rain or shine. In case of inclement weather, evening activities will be held indoors at the Hell's A-Roarin' Ranch.

Each year Grizzly Bears continue to trek further eastward from Montana’s Rocky Mountain Front. Rancher Trina Jo Bradley shares her own experiences of having grizzly bears on her ranch and even in her daughters play house. Fresh off the release of NCBA's 2018 Policy Priorities, members in Phoenix passed official policy designed to protect consumers and the beef industry from fake meat and misleading labels. The resolution will inform advocacy efforts as NCBA ramps up the fight against imitation meat and franken-foods inside the Beltway.
What does the policy say? Recognizing that many products are being falsely marketed as equivalent or substitutes for beef, the resolution notes that NCBA opposes "alternative proteins being permitted to use nomenclature associated with protein sourced from livestock production."
It further states that NCBA supports "the definition of beef to only include products derived from actual livestock raised by cattle farmers and ranchers and harvested for human consumption."
What does that mean in practice? NCBA will be waging a campaign on two fronts:
Ensuring that product labels accurately describe the product and do not disparage beef. 2. Working with the federal government to define clear regulatory jurisdiction over new products.
