Victorian Horrors is environmental theater set within Denver’s most historic – and some say, most haunted – Capitol Hill mansion. Slink from room to room to hear each author’s horrifying tale, portrayed by acclaimed local actors David and Julia Payne, Jim Hunt, Trina Magness, Josh Hartwell, Rachel Turner, and John Wittbrodt. To honor Mrs. Brown’s Irish heritage, this year’s tales are by Irish writers or set in the old country’s bogs and crumbling country houses, including such terrifying tales as “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” and “The Strange Voice” by Dora Sigerson Shorter.
The stage for this spine-tingling event is the Molly Brown House Museum, home to Denver’s notable Titanic disaster survivor, Margaret Tobin Brown. To heighten the spook factor, the Museum is partnering with Denver’s authentic oddities dealers, The Learned Lemur and Atomic Folk Art, to create a Victorian cabinet of curiosities for your viewing pleasure, replete with creepy taxidermy, spiny specimens, and rattling bones!
Victorian Horrors is the Molly Brown House Museum’s most popular event, so advance ticket purchase is highly recommended. Offered over two weekends, the hour-long performances begin every 15 minutes from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on October 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, and 26. Tickets are $20 per person and $18 for Historic Denver members. Call 303-832-4092, ext. 16 for tickets or visit www.mollybrown.org. Advised for ages 12 and up, per parental discretion.
