Rest helps us engage the world from trust instead of anxiety, control, or burnout. Rest is not retreating from the world forever; it is being re-centered in God so we can return to the world with clarity, compassion, and courage. Rest reminds us that we are not the savior. Jesus is.
A restless people often become reactive people. We doomscroll, overwork, overcommit, argue, consume, and try to control what only God can hold. Biblical rest teaches us to be still before God so we can be sent back into the world as people of peace.

Feeling disconnected? You’re not alone. Recent surveys from the Census Bureau reveal that Americans have been spending increasingly less time with friends and loved ones, even before the pandemic. More than half of Americans report feeling significantly lonely, a rate higher than those experiencing obesity or diabetes. Additionally, about half have fewer than three close confidants, a stark contrast to only 27% in 1990.
The reality is, we were never meant to do life alone. God created us for connection, to need each other, and to live in community. He even called it good!

As we continue our series, "Did God Say...", we're tackling one of those phrases that often finds its way into our conversations during challenging seasons, "God Won't Give You More Than You Can Handle."
This saying may be well-intentioned, but oftentimes it proves to be more harmful than helpful. It can dismiss the real pain and problems we are facing, suggesting that if things become too overwhelming, it's somehow a failure on our part. It can also imply that each of us should be able to handle everything on our own.
In truth, life often presents us with situations that are far beyond our capacity to handle alone. God never intended for us to navigate these challenges on our own. He invites us to bring our burdens to Him, to cast our anxieties upon Him, and to find rest and strength in His presence

Raise your hand if you’ve ever heard someone say “If God closes a door, he'll open a window,". How about “God works in mysterious ways”? As a culture we’ve done a pretty good job at deciding who we think God is and what we think he thinks or says. How often do we throw these “God quotes” around? And how helpful and truthful are they, really? Did God really tell us that He helps those who help themselves? Did He really say that He’ll never give us more than we can handle? They say the bible reveals who God is to us, but what happens when we start misremembering what’s actually in there? In this series we’re going to head back to the source to find out what God really said. On their own, these phrases may seem true; but God has a better truth that he wants to reveal to you today.
Your journey probably hasn't been a straightforward one. There have likely been unexpected detours and setbacks, moments when progress felt like an uphill battle. It's during these twists and turns that we may question whether God's plans for our lives are truly good. The turning point of the Prodigal son’s story is quite literally that he turned around. He had every right to feel too ashamed, but somewhere deep down, he believed that there was still a chance there’d be something for him when he returned (even if it was just as a servant). If he never took the leap to turn around, he would’ve never experienced the joy of coming home. It may be true that your life has taken a path that you’re not proud of, but what’s more true is that God loves you. This means that you can always turn around.
