Its been 16 months since I had a gig , and I’m not gana like .….it pretty fucking sucks ! In all my 20 plus years career I’ve never been this long without playing in front of a crowd. Only those DJs , like me , truly know the feeling , nay, the rush of emotion when playing a ‘killer’ set in front of people and making them dance, shout and scream . As we know all too well , Covid is the main culprit but alas for me in my hometown of Larnaca in Cyprus clubs and bars have opened up and the nightlife is once again returning to normal . But for me , my ‘normal’ is playing music for people and this , my ‘normal’, doesn’t seem to be returning soon . I don’t foresee any gigs in my near future . There’s allot to unpack with how the club scene in Cyprus works with booking of talent. Firstly there are not too many venues , so gigs are limited , second there’s the ‘messo (who you connected with) ‘ problem , third there are allot of DJs trying to undercut each others pay just to get a gig (this is even worse now cos of the repercussions of Covid) , fifth clubs now are looking for more ‘commercial’ DJs and the list goes on . Unfortunately I don’t really tick allot of these boxes. I’m not a commercial DJ , I don’t have ‘messo’ , I’m not gana bargain my price or ‘cheapen’ myself especially when I see a venue hold 1000 people and then the owner of said venue argues with me over 20 euro , but what I do have is a passion and love for my craft and music of which I try to excel and push myself ever more forward with . And this is why I don’t have a ‘home’ to play my music. I’ve also seen allot of local DJs who I think deserve bigger venues to showcase their sound , be reduced to playing music for lounge bars . Its a shame really what Covid has done and also how club and bar owners have reacted to it. I truly do miss having a residency , a place to call my ‘home’ . During Covid I had turned to live streaming , which was allot of fun and was a great supplement for live gigs considering that the bars and clubs were still closed . But the itch of playing in front of a live crowd could not be scratched . There’s only so far that live streaming can get you . There’s only a small amount of satisfaction that can be gotten from it . And also , if you’re not a really well known DJ/producer you’ll likely get close to maybe 10 people watching you play live at a time . Nothing compared to if you had a gig in person . Personally I have turned the time I have gained from not getting gigs into focusing more on original productions and my radio show/podcast. And the results are there , I am so happy producing and feeling of accomplishment is greatly received. I feel absolutely fantastic when I complete tracks and submit them to labels . And the feeling of getting a track signed to the label is even better . But again , as far and as amazing as this feels . There’s still nothing like playing in front of a crowd. It makes it especially harder when you have a track signed to a big reputable label and you haven’t seen how the crowd reacts to your track live and in person . But I have faith and I have the patience , all I know is that I am 100% ready to play !

I remember so well when I first heard this track , like it was yesterday . I was searching for new music from my favorite online vinyl store , HTFR (Hard To Find Records) back in the Winter/Spring of 2006 . This was back when CD’s were slowly taking over the DJ world , at this point in time I was shifting over from vinyl to CD but new tracks were still coming out sooner on vinyl than those on digital or CD. I came across this track by Axwell , at that time one of my favorite house tracks was Axwell’s ‘Feel the vibe’ and was the only track I knew he had done, so I immediately checked out the track . When I heard the 30 second sample I immediately fell in love with it . I must of played this sample at least 10 times , over and over . Imagining myself playing this track at a packed club and visualizing the crowd going absolutely ‘bananas’ when the ‘drop’ would hit . Once this track soon become more available it was only a matter of time before it became the juggernaut that it was that Summer .And when it did ,i t was THE ‘go-to’ track for that whole summer season that would totally ‘kill’ the dancefloor . By the way I’m talking about the ‘vocal dub’ version .Fast forward to 15 years later , this track still give me goosebumps every time I hear it . And it got me thinking , and I came to the realization that this track is the ultimate summer anthem . Besides being a top quality jam , there are (what I believe) are some fundamentals as to what truly makes a Summer jam , a Summer jam (In my own opinion of course) and this song hits all the marks . Allow me to break it down for you and to ascertain my reasoning . 1) Its got a killer guitar riff and melody2) Steve Edwards’ voice is amazing 3) The lyrics of this track just scream ‘Summer’ . Its about love and watching the sunrise with someone you love . When you hear this track , all you’re doing is visualizing yourself together with your partner watching the sunrise …..what’s not to love about that ?4) The bassline is heart pounding and sounds epic on a club sound system . 5) Its got cowbells …. ALLOT of cowbells !6) Arguably one of the best ‘drops’ in any track , EVER !Do you agree ?

SHADOW AND BONE was such a kick ass series . Amazingly visuals , great story telling and great actors. The first season is building its world of which it reminds me a little of Game of Thrones , I cannot wait to see the next season . THE SERPENT is a true life series about a couple who terrorized and murdered young back packers across Europe and Asia . The lead actor is creepy and amazing in his role . I highly recommend you peeps to check it out. I really liked VOYAGERS , its like a sci-fi version of ‘Lord of the flies’ . Another good movie to checkout I had never heard about this movie or anything about it , all I can say is that I was surprisngly blown away . SHADOW IN THE CLOUDS is a short and sweet film , full of action and a kick ass soundtrack to boot JUPITERS LEGACY was such a disappointment , its amazing how such an ‘expensive’ show can look so cheap. Bad acting , bad dialogue and no sense of direction . I tried to finish it , but couldn’t get past the 5th episode , just became to cringe for me I went a lil old skool , back to the 80’s to watch ANGEL HEART . A film I always wanted to see and eventually remembered to check it out . I was not disappointed , what a fantastic film and really hard hitting story , it holds up so well after all these years . Most definitely check it out .I got so addicted to INK MASTER . Its a competitive reality show , whereby the best tattoo artists compete with each other for the grand prize of $100 000 and the title on Ink Master . Currently watching this on a daily basis and have become rather obssesed with this show . The nice thing is that you can watch all seasons for free from their YouTube channel . I dont have any tattoos nor do I intend on getting one but I simply love this show . Check it out HERE By far the best animated series around has to be CASTLEVANIA . The fourth and final season just released on Netflix . Its got great dialogue , great twists , some humor and awesome action . Even if you don’t like anime , you should give this a shot I don’t understand why more people are not talking about WRATH OF MAN . A super slick , simple and kick ass movie on the similar tone of John Wick. This film was made for Jason Statham , and Guy Richie shows he’s got the chops not just for gangster films , but for drama/thriller/action flicks . Brand new to Netflix is the Oscar nominated PIECES OF A WOMAN . A ‘heavy’ and harrowing story about a couple who lose their child at childbirth . The lead actress , Vanessa Kirby , is amazing in this film and rightfully deserved an Oscar nod for her part in this film . A great film , albeit its not for everyone. GODZILLA VS KONG is a brainless action flick and I thoroughly enjoyed . This time around the story isn’t bothered with the humans but with the monsters instead . I enjoyed this flick but to be honest I did prefer the Godzilla sequel . To be honest im a little ‘over’ the whole Marvel thing , but then I started watching FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER. What a phenomenal series . Its like Jason Bourne meets James Bond meets Captain America. Such great acting , great cast and a great story . This series has brought me back into the MCU . The entire vibe of the 'Captain America ‘series’ is in my opinion the best when it comes to the MCU. I highly recommend it even if you’re not a fan of the Marvel thing . Another ‘Artsy-fartsy’ movie is A24’s HIGH LIFE . An absolutely fantastic film , great acting from Robert Pattenson , Juliette Binoche and believe it or not Andre 3000 . A masterpiece of film making using a lot of mature themes . Definitely not for the faint hearted From the makers of the John Wick franchise comes NOBODY . A balls to the wall action flick , such a great film . My favorite film from this past month has to be THOROUGHBREDS. Its an artsy-fartsy film which is a slow burn , so it might not be for everyone . But if you want to watch an intense , slow burning and a great acted film , look no further . Brand new to Netflix this month was STOAWAY . For once Netflix brings a good movie , simple story but made with such heart and feeling . I highly recommend . I found another hidden gem on Netlfix , LOVE WEDDING REPEAT. I don’t know why it took me so long to eventually watch the HBO/Netflix series , THE DEFIANT ONES . After starting it last night , I binged straight through it in one evening . It is flawlessly directed and presented in such a way that you cant help but not finish it in one sitting . ‘The Defiant Ones’ follows two music moguls , Dr.Dre & Jeremy Iovine from the beginning of their respective music careers to their sale of their company ‘Beats’ to Apple for 3.2 billion dollars . Considering the fact that both these amazing producers have a career spanning all the way back from the 70’s , is a true testament of how much of an important role they have played in music, and more so their impact of the music scene as a whole . Besides the fact that you get to learn allot of each of their individual music paths , you also get to see just how hard each of them worked and the path they took to get to where they are now and the struggles they had faced . That’s not to say that they didn’t have any luck , as Dr.Dre says it in the beginning of the series , ‘We’re the luckiest mother fuckers on the planet’ .The show will take you back to a time where music was truly amazing and that just how much the music scene has changed so much over the last 30 years , with regards to consumption , marketing and distribution . You will see never before seen videos of NWA , Dr. Dre’s first performance as a DJ and so much more . Theirs also interviews with artists such as Bono , Ice-Cube, Bruce Springsteen, Gwen Stefani and more . My personal opinion is that anyone involved in the music industry HAS TO watch this docu-series , its a real motivation . After watching this show , I immediately wanted to start working in the studio and was highly motivated. Even if you’re not involved in music , you owe it to yourself to see how these two amazing & hard working people have impacted the music scene over the last 3 decades and get a great insight into their careers , their highs and lows , their struggles and passion

This past weekend I was out with friends , having some drinks , talking and having a laugh . We came upon the topic of music and I asked my group of friends , ‘ What’s your favorite guilty pleasure track ? ‘ . One friend of mine turned to me and asked ‘ What you mean ? ‘ to which I replied ‘ A song that you love , to which you’re ashamed to to admit ? ‘ . When this came up we all started laughing and started talking about our favorite ‘cheesy’ songs . We would each whip out our cellphones and find the YouTube videos . We were like kids , reminiscing on the old school days of music of how much we either hated certain songs (of which now we love) or of how much we loved these songs but would never admit it in public. We couldn’t stop laughing at each others favorite guilty pleasure songs. As soon as someone mentioned said song we would all jump in and start to sing the song as if we were sopranos , it truly was really enjoyable and fun to hear what songs other people really loved . From my group of friends I heard guys that liked Justin Bieber Songs , Sakis Rouvas , Backstreet Boys , Rick Ashley, Celine Dion and more . Over the weekend it was announced that legendary rapper DMX , Earl Simmons , had passed away at the age of 50 after suffering a heart attack . I remember back in my teens when DMX first burst into the scene with his club monster ‘Ruff Riders Anthem’ . One of many dance floor killers , but for me personally my all time favorite track of his and most defiantly in my all time top 100 tracks has to be his track ‘slippin’ . Such heart hitting lyrics and a fantastic production . His legacy will forever live on through his music and is survived by his 15 children . My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.Rest In Power DMX

Ola folks , checkout below what I have been watching this past month , dont forget to checkout the previous blog postings too :)Towards the end of this past month , after having seen quite a few really bad films and series , I realized a conundrum … I am wasting my time , by passing time , watching these garbage films/series . In the beginning of this year I started a list of films and series of which I would like to see (those who have caught my interest) . So when I came into watching these garbage films , I gave up on trying to watch something I have never heard about and instead went to my diary and started to watch , whats on my list . With this in mind , majority of the films and series I saw this past month were from my list . At the top of my list were films directed by Spike Lee , I went back and watched (for the first time) DO THE RIGHT THING and for the 2nd time THE 25TH HOUR and for the umpteenth time CLOCKERS . All these films are fantastic and Spike Lee is a phenomenal director . I recommened you all do the same , make a list of what you want to watch and get starting . I am a huge fan of the Pacific Rim film series and now its an anime series on Netflix titled PACIFIC RIM : THE BLACK . What’s not to love about big ass robots fighting big ass monsters ? Possibly one of the worst films I have ever seen has to be DEADLY ILLUSIONS , I couldn’t even get past the hour mark before I turned it off . So cringe , back acting , bad script … just bad all around . Don’t even waste your time with this garbage I absolutely loved this film . Great period piece with great acting and a gripping and suspenseful trailer without all the usual tropes . BEHIND HER EYES was trending on Netflix and so I gave it a shot . After 3 boring ass episodes I forced myself to keep watching , by the 8th episode I couldn’t anymore . Its boring and the ‘twist’ is so bonkers that I couldn’t find any redeeming qualities . I don’t recommend this show at all . I had been waiting for years to see the ZACK SYNDER’S JUSTICE LEAUGE , and finally it had arrived this past month and my oh my what a flick it was . It is an amazing feat to be hold , even sitting at 4 hours it doesn’t get boring at all and is an amazing film . For once Netflix brings a great movie , and THE WHITE TIGER is truly a great film . This film should be getting Oscar buzz , as the lead actor , he is amazing ! Another film on my list that I wanted to see was the Swedish Sci-Fi flick ANIARA . Its quite similar to ‘The Tower’ so if you like you some sci-fi drama, I highly recommended this gem . If you have a Twitter , Instagram or any other social media site, you have to get yourself a link tree account. Link tree is a service that provides you with a custom link which directs your followers/users to a page of which you have customizable links to any website you choose . For example , Instagram has the option in your bio to add only a single link . You can then add your custom link tree account which can then direct your audience to your account and then on this page you can have an unlimited amount of custom links of your choosing . This makes directing your audience to important links so much easier . This also applies to Twitter , as again you only have 1 link in your bio description . In these two cases when using Twitter & Instagram , every time you would type in a post or story ‘link in bio’ you don’t have to keep going back and changing the link in your bio but all you have to do is have your link tree link in the bio description saving you time and making it much easier for your followers to find the necessary link that they’re looking for. Link tree is a free service , all you need to do is signup and then you’re good to go. You can also create a custom URL for your account (Eg. link.tree/djleandro) as well as customize the layout and look for your account. The options for the free version are limited when it comes to aesthetics but you can upgrade to PRO for $6 a month and make it fully customizable with videos, custom backgrounds , images and more . Ever since Netflix started the global subscription based service goliath that it is today , it seems that a lot of companies have seen that this formulae is the best method to extract the maximum amount of profit that it can get from its consumers. It seems that long term payment schemes are way more profitable than once of or even short term payments. After Netflix came out there has been a slew of companies jumping on this trend , with that being Disney + , HBO Max , Amazon Prime , Apple TV and more . This TV streaming trend is now finding its way into the music industry . Its not new per say , as what I had seen in the past , for example purchasing a piece of software , was either a once off ownership payment or a ‘rent to own’ model that would see the consumer pay a monthly fee for a couple months or a year until they have fully paid off the full amount at which then they own the full software package that they had paid for. Recently on the Steinberg Facebook page they had posted a rather cryptic message with how their company will be going forward with regards to purchasing of licenses for their software . The full message herein: ‘‘For many of you this is the announcement you have been waiting for for a long time. While we put our heart and soul into developing ground-breaking products in your best interests, we haven’t accomplished our promise to provide you with the user experience you deserve in every part of Steinberg’s technologies in recent time.We have been listening to your feedback for years, but big changes need time and we had to carefully lay out our vision for the future. But now the time has come to put our approach to license management at the center of our attention.We have decided to adopt a new license management technology that everyone will benefit from to prepare for coming requirements.An authorization system shouldn’t get in your way, but support you in the onboarding process.Anti-piracy protection technology shouldn’t restrict you as the customer, but secure your investment.A license management shouldn’t stop you from using your products, but enable you to be creative, whenever and wherever you are.At this point in time, all we can tell you is that everyone at Steinberg is strongly committed to providing you as soon as possible with a solution that offers more flexibility, more reliability and, of course, a seamless migration.It’s too early to announce details on the schedule or the new environment, but one thing is for sure: The future will be dongle-free.’’When it came to purchasing of Steinberg software you would have to had purchased a USB dongle which stores all your licenses , of which you would have to had had inserted at all times into your desk/laptop when using any of their software , it was called ‘e-licenser’ . There have been a few bugs with the e-linceser and it seems that Cubase could be using this minor problem as a means to push their customers onto a subscription based service . The statement that they came out with is a little vague but in my opinion is pointing towards a subscription model . But in the days following the publication of this statement they have made it clear that they are not going for a subscription model . Could it be from public backlash ? I have recently learned that Roland has had their own subscription service for some time now , ‘Roland Cloud’ . This cloud based subscription service gives you access to over 50 virtual instruments of which you have the option of 3 different tiers of subscription . Starting from $2.99 a month up to $19.99 a month for the top tier subscription . They still give the consumer the option to purchase instruments separately as a once off payment as another option. Beatport have recently launched their own ‘all in one’ online DJ subscription service ‘Beatport Link’ . Its a service that gives you access to all the tracks available from their website as well as their own virtual DJ software where you mix tracks , create playlists and more . You can also use this in conjunction with Serrato , Rekordbox , Virtual DJ and more . The payment tiers start from $14.99 a month up to $49.99 a month . To me it sounds like a mix between a Spotify & a Virtual DJ subscription. I would like to add that I have never used any form a subscription service when it comes to DJing or producing, so I don’t have a strong opinion when it comes to how they work but I can only judge from the pricing and what they have to offer and how I think it will benefit me personally . There’s allot to unpack when it comes to these services , if you want to get more detail checkout the videos above and their social media pages for a more detailed description of their services. I’ve always been a ‘buy it now , own it now’ kind of guy . When ever it came to software licensing or purchasing I’ve never had any issues , albeit very small ones , that stood in the way of me creating or mixing tracks. In my opinion it does seem rather blatant that these companies are now jumping onto the subscription ‘bandwagon’ . Subscription is the most profitable way of businesses to truly maximize their profit from their consumers. We have seen the proof from outlets such at Netflix. In the long term they are getting way more profit than they ever would have from a once off sale . This comes across as very greedy in my opinion , especially seeing that this is something rather new in the music industry compared to TV services , in that being there is not allot of competition and prices AT THE MOMENT are reasonable . I use the term ‘at the moment’ to make a point of what will happen in the future ? Its very easy for companies to start a subscription service at a good price point to lure in customers and once they have their cliental base they can then slowly increase there monthly subscription pricing. Netflix has been doing this every 1 to 2 years , gradually increasing the price of their subscription . Its very easy to do this as the amount in short term is very little , but once you start to look at it over a few years the amounts start to add up . If , for example , a company increases there subscription from $14 to $15 in a single year , a consumer could be like ‘ its only $1 , why not?’ and then this $1 increase could be happening every year , eventually after 5 years you are looking at a 33% increase in the cost of a subscription . This is a trend that I personally think will happen if companies start to adopt the subscription model, especially if there is not allot of competition and if the market is very niche , they advertently ‘force’ their customers in paying for this service . It could also get allot worse , we have seen already companies offering different tiers of subscription . This could be spread out more and could potentially block major features, for example, for those wanting to joining a subscription on a lower tear (maybe they cannot afford an expensive subscription) and force them to purchase more expensive subscriptions due to having certain features blocked behind a ‘pay wall’ . My personal opinion on subscription based services in the music industry is that it does not belong here . You cannot maximize profit from this market as you could with a TV based subscription service. This is not Netlfix. The same rules do not apply . You cannot force consumers to use subscription based services to ‘pigeon hole’ us . I would say at the most have a rent to own sub basis . I would also like to say have an extra option above all of this for a subscription based service but this would just lead to the ‘flood gates’ opening up . I for one hope to never enter a subscription based service when it comes to DJing and producing . But then again I don’t know what the future holds.

Seeing as I have been live streaming every so often , I'd thought I'd make it an official more regular gig seeing as the situation in Cyprus (with regards to Covid) is postponing the opening of bars and/or clubs and no one really knows when they will open . It’s that time of year again , the time where the majority of Europeans sit in front of their TV and watch the Eurovision song contest . For those who dont know , the Eurovision song contest is , well , a song contest much like ‘Pop idol’ where a singer/group/band represent their country and compete for the the ‘coveted’ title of Eurovison song contest winner . There are semi-finals of which the countries ‘fight’ for a spot in the final which is aired all over the world (mainly targeting Europe) and on the night of the final , once all contestants have sung , the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest is selected by a positional voting system which sees each participating country award two sets of 12, 10, 8–1 points to their 10 favorite songs: one set from their professional jury and the other from tele-voting.Eurovison was something I had never heard of until I moved to Cyprus . I did watch it the first year or so and then I totally gave up watching . When ever Eurovision comes around every year, I have mixed feelings about the show . The reason why I have mixed feelings about the show is because I don’t know exactly how to feel towards it . On one hand I take it in all its ridiculousness, in that random countries not even in Europe are allowed to vote and/or compete . The artists and/or producers & song writers representing certain countries , are not even from the country they’re supposed to be representing . The performers and their performances are extravagant , grand and in some cases so over the top and ridiculous. This ridiculousness was made apparent to the rest of the world in the hilarious Netflix film , Eurovison Song contest : The Story of Fire Saga , check out the trailer below . And then on the other hand I look at it as a ‘proper’ song contest . That each countries representing artist/s have put allot of work into their song . Allot must go into the song writing , producing , choreography and so much more , in that I think these artists are really taking this contest seriously and want to win and perhaps have the hope in getting recognized for their talent and getting a record deal/contract and kick start their music career . And this is where I get confused . Because allot of viewers take this show quite seriously. So , if I had to take the side of viewing this as a serious song contest , then all I can say is that this show is an utter joke . For example , Cyprus’ entry into this years competition is sung by a singer from Greece , the song writers are from Greece and the record label from which it is produced is from Greece . So then why is song representing Cyprus ? Israel is also in the competition , but last I checked they’re not in Europe. This is where I have a dilemma , what exactly is Eurovision trying to achieve ? Is it an ‘all out’ entertainment show ? Is this a serious competition ? And with regards to the artists involved are they not taking this show seriously ? Do they really want to win ? Are they truly the representatives of the country they’re singing for ? Eurovision blurs the lines between entertainment and serious song contest so big that in my opinion it just comes out a mess of a show that no one should watch or care about . And also to mention the political stand point when it comes to voting . As depending on some countries political views , their viewers will vote a certain way (regardless of the quality of song) for certain countries. I’ve also heard that this show also helps with the economy of winning country as they become hosts for the following year when winning but I don’t really buy that to be honest . As I am an artist I might lean towards the ‘serious’ more competitive side of this contest and that I might find this whole show a complete debacle and a waste of anyone’s time. Votes are irrelevant of talent or song quality . Just about anyone can sing for any country which makes me think that any country with a big enough bank can hire a ‘big’ artist to perform or write a song for their country , then again I haven’t seen any such artist join in the show (probably due to its ridiculousness and in that they would tarnish their name in doing so) . I have been in Cyprus for 13 years now and I haven’t seen any artist’s career grow from this show or get recognition, this coming from a show that brings in millions of viewers each year . Eurovision lacks , excuse the pun , vision . The organizers don’t even know what direction their show is . It has an identity crises , is it a song contest or an entertainment show ? No one can answer this question , probably not even the organizers. In my opinion I would say to you all not even waste your time watching this show but instead watch the Netflix film, its better and at the very least knows what it is .

Here’s what I’ve been binge watching this past month :I’m a sucker for a good murder mystery , so when I heard about THE UNDOING I jumped straight on it . Its a 6 part limited series produced by HBO . I wont give anything away but if you are like me and enjoy a good murder mystery then you should most definitely give this a watch . Nicole Kidman and more so Hugh Grant (who gives the best performance of his career) are excellent in their respective roles . No surprise that they’re both nominated for Golden Globes for their respective roles . SPACE SWEEPERS is a kick ass action sci-fi flick . I really enjoyed this film , very similar to ‘The Fifth Element’ so if you liked that movie , you’ll defiantly enjoy this . Highly recommended The ‘SINNER’ series I think is one of the most over looked series on TV and possibly one of the best . The 3rd season is now available on Netflix , If you haven’t seen the first 2 seasons , I would recommended you watch those 2 first (although you don’t need to watch the first 2 in order to understand the 3rd) . Each season follows Bill Pullman’s police detective character on a specific murder case. Bill Pullman is phenomenal in this role and each episode draws you in more and more as the story unfolds leading to a climatic ending . Season 3 is just as good the last two and keeping the standards high for the series . SNOWPIERCER is also one of my all time favorite movies . They have adapted the movie (which is an adaptation of a graphic novel ) into a TV series . The story has been changed quite allot from its original source material but its still a pretty good premise and a good series . Season 2 is out now on Netlfix CRIME SCENE: THE VANASHING AT THE CECIL HOTEL is a 4 part true crime documentary series . Netflix has a huge library of really great documentary series and films , and this one can be added to the list. Its about the disappearance of a young girl from a hotel There was a Chineese film recently added to Netflix (And I am a huge fan of Asian cinema) . The film in question is THE YIN-YANG MASTER : DREAM OF ETERNITY . Its a proper kick ass movie with amazing set pieces , visuals , great acting and a great soundtrack . And its so damn epic . You can only find true epicness like this in an Asian film. How epic you say ? There’s a scene where a shirtless dude with angel wings is wielding a flame sword fighting another shirtless dude on the head of a giant snake … nuff said ! Im totally in love with Noomi Rapace , shes the most underrated actor in my opinion . And her latest outing in THE SECRETS WE KEEP is truly outstanding . Another great flick to check out this month After the whole MCU climax of Avengers Endgame , I personally have lost some interest in the MCU and their family friendly formulae. Disney have jumped onto the streaming band wagon and are now producing MCU series . I truly had no interest in their newest show WANDAVISION. There wasn’t anything interesting to watch at the time so I jumped into this show. Its not bad , its pretty good . Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany are fantastic to watch and its a great story , but they’re weighed down by a dumbed down and cheesy script , jokes don’t land and are pretty cringe worthy . But I continued to watch only for these two and cos the story is pretty good albeit a little predictable. Rick & MortyThe Blindside FrasierThe best of enemies

As soon as Covid hit , just about every DJ has turned to streaming live DJ sets , including myself. Live streaming , at first , became hugely popular and quite successful for allot of DJs out there on Facebook. They could directly interact with their audience whilst playing their sets. But eventually copyright infringement , due to broadcasting policies , came into play causing streams to either be abruptly stopped or muted in some cases. DJs then flocked to the next best thing , Twitch . Twitch is more well known for live game streaming , but in recent years has become popular for IRL chat streams and more recently live music streams. But again , just like Facebook , broadcasting policies and infringement came into play and once again these live DJ streamers were getting their streams cut during their streams or having parts of their stream muted. This by the way did also affect all the other streamers(not just DJs) on their channels as any music that was copyrighted, that was being played during their stream , would mean they would get their streams cut , in some serious cases , temporary or permanent bans . Just last week during Blizzcon , Metallica were performing live and Twitch muted the stream whilst they were performing.Then there’s YouTube live . From my opinion is basically the same as Twitch , albeit not so harsh when it comes to bans , which you can also stream your sets but you might get sections of your stream muted or cut out completely . Due to all the live DJ streaming popularity , Mixcloud threw their hat into the live streaming ring and have now introduced a , subscription based , live streaming service called ‘Mixcloud Live’ . Basically you’ll need a Mixcloud Pro account to make you eligible , the cost is $15 per month or $135 per year. Mixcloud have basically setup a system whereby , with your monthly subscription , they deduct a certain percentage from this and then pay the artists of the tracks you’ve played. In turn this means no more cut off or muted streams . Allot of people simply don’t have the funds to pay this monthly/yearly fee and they don’t want to be take the online DJ streaming ‘thing’ too seriously . Some just want to hop on the decks and play a short set for their friends . Which is totally understandable . From another aspect , there are artists/labels who want to get paid for their tracks been broadcast live on the internet . Which again is also totally understandable . There has been talk about Twitch tightening measures with regards to copyright and could be making things even more difficult to stream live sets. Allot of DJs are now playing more unknown ‘underground’ tracks in the hope that these lesser known songs will not have any copyright . There are still allot of DJs broadcasting on all of these platforms and are just simply hoping that they wont get their streams cut or get banned . I know only a few people who stream on Mixcloud and they seem that , that is the best option . For me personally I stream simultaneously on YouTube, Twitch and Facebook using ReStream . I find that Facebook is the harshest and more strict when it comes to streaming as majority of the time they will cut my stream completely . YouTube I find is the most lenient , I have streamed many hours on their platform and have had only 2 tracks be copyrighted to the point where they had to ‘trim’ the section of the stream leaving the rest untouched . This is how I will be going forward in the future. No one knows when the clubbing scene will be back again and in what capacity , so for now this is how I am going forward.With all of the above mentioned , where do we go from here ? So what’s next in the live streaming world ? The simple truth , in my opinion , is that no one knows. Things are getting more difficult for us trying to stream. . Allot of DJs are streaming cos this is there ‘breakaway’ from reality and to help them mentally get through this pandemic. With everything going on in the world right now this is our space to express our creative art . I think for the meantime we will have to make do with what we have until things return to normal and we are able to play in front of a live crowd .

The measures that have been put into place , in all countries worldwide due to Covid, most certainly have taken a mental toll on us . Depression and anxiety has boomed globally and we are all feeling the mental effects of Covid. We are living in an age of a global pandemic where millions of people are dying , in some way we have all been affected by this . This in turn has caused us all great trauma , we have either lost someone close to us or have seen the results of someone infected with this deadly disease as well as depression and anxiety from the fact that we are unable to be on ‘contact’ with one another or live our lives ‘normally’ . Living day to day has been a struggle . Allot of us are also financially feeling the blow of Covid , businesses are losing sales or in some cases have been forced to shut or even worse have to close down their businesses entirely . With all of this going on around us , I think its natural to feel depressed. Us as humans are not meant to be living isolated lives , whereby we are not allowed to touch , hug or kiss our friends/loved ones. We are emotional creatures who cannot function without human contact . We are social beings and our brains are meant to function socially . This is at least how I see things and how I have felt this past year . If any of you feel the same , know that you are not alone , I too have been ‘there’ and in my opinion I think majority of the world has too . I recently have found a little ‘workaround’ depression and/or anxiety that has helped me to become more focused and happier during these tiring times. I have adapted my daily life and routine to keep me from going down that ‘dark hole’ and I’d thought I’d share with you all what I have done and also the results of what I have done to change my ‘normal’ routes of thinking and my day to day life to perhaps help you in your own struggle during these difficult times. One thing I have learnt about being in lockdown is that I am a very sociable person and need human contact in my life . And seeing that we cant be social or go out anywhere , I decided to direct my frustration into something much more productive . My ideology is to be FOCUSED . In everything I do I always have this one single word in my head, FOCUS. This is what is driving me everyday . To elaborate more on this I have taken it into a sense of not being distracted and FOCUS on what is and should be more important to me . By being distracted I’m talking about not wasting valuable time on things that are either irrelevant or don’t bring any happiness in my life. Its very easy to get distracted in today’s world of social media . With regards to social media what I have done is the following :1) Instagram: I only follow pages that inspire me or that are focused on things I love and bring joy and inspiration into my life (eg. following other music producers who I admire)2) Facebook: I have ‘unfollowed’ those people who all day only post complaints, or are so self absorbed that all they do is post selfies every 5 minutes . Instead what I have done is joined some really nice groups related to the music industry where we chat and ask questions and opinions with regards to the music industry . This has also helped me allot with some of my productions and problems that I have had . Instead I am focused on my music career and my job .These 2 things for me are what make me happy . I make sure that the 2 don’t collide with one another but instead compliment one another . Having being focused on my music career I find I am not wasting time sitting on Facebook or Instagram all day looking at peoples profiles who mean absolutely nothing to me (in some cases really piss me off). But if I do find myself on social media , because I only have people/groups that I follow who make me happy or inspire me, what usually happens is I’ll see a post from a producer I admire and then will get motivated to start working on a track , or I might see someone who has a problem with a certain VST with whom I can help , and it goes on . Basically what I am trying to say is that when ever I’m on social media all I’ll see are things that don’t piss me off but instead make me happy or motivate me. And now that I am more focused I instead have now got into a steady stream of producing tracks on a daily basis , doing more regular live sets and more to enrich my career .This has made me a much happier and a harder working person . I am now more consistent and persistent in my career than I have ever been . With regards to my job I have applied the same work ideology and am now finding more success in that .Because I am more focused now and not distracted, success has come . Now just to be clear I’m not gloating I’m purely trying to prove a point by illustrating that when we focus on something and when are not easily distracted we function better and have better chances of success . Upon writing this blog post we are now in the 7th week of 2021 , I have completed 4 tracks , 2 have now been signed to reputable labels and currently have 2 more tracks that I should finish end of the month . Last year in total I released between 5 and 7 tracks the entire year .This just shows what happens when we focus on what is important to us and work hard towards our goals. My best advice to you all is do the same , find something that you love or that inspires you or something that adds substance to your life. Also cos we are not mentally stimulated as we were before covid (due to restrictions) try finding stimulation elsewhere with like minded people . Join a group or forum on topics that you interested in . Join in the chats , have meaningful debates or share a funny image and make other people laugh and have a laugh yourself .Unfollow pages or people from your social media who truly add nothing good to your life , instead follow those who inspire , who make you laugh and feel loved. All of this will help you take your mind off tedious things and instead your life will be clearer , simpler and happier . For example lets say you enjoy reading , why not join a book club or a ‘book club’ group on Facebook and chat with other like minded people who perhaps can tell you what book they loved and tell you which books you should be reading . Or checkout some really good online book stores and do research of the best places to buy from . I’m sure at some point in our lives we have all been guilty , before Covid hit , of saying ‘I dont have time for so and so’ , now we do have the time and we can use this valuable time to do what we couldn’t before cos now is the time ! There’s so much we can do right now to enrich our lives and make us happier. That’s exactly what’s happened to me . Staying purely focused on what truly matters is the most important thing right now . No one truly knows when things will get back to normal , one thing is for certain (in my opinion) we will return to ‘normal’ one day and when that happens I think we all owe it to our selves to come out a better, stronger and more focused version of ourselves.
