DJ V-Rod's House Noir Mix Series.: Recent Episodes

DJ V-Rod

Vince Rodriguez, known as “DJ V-ROD”, is a local DJ in the Chicago area. Born and raised in Chicago, V-ROD’s main advantage was growing up and being exposed to the birth of House Music in his youth. Influencing this exposure in Vince’s life were radio stations that played House Music like 102.7 FM WBMX, 89.3 FM WKKC (Kennedy King College) and 90.5 FM WCYC (Chicago Boys and Girls Club). Being exposed to this new “fad” during the 1980’s, it wasn’t enough to just be a listener… Vince wanted to learn to be more like the DJ’s on those radio stations. So, he intently listened to and recorded the house music shows from those radio stations on to cassette tapes. While doing so, he learned the basic method of blending by studying those tapes by his favorite radio DJs. It wasn’t until his 8th grade year in 1987 that Vince was finally able to gain access to a real set of turntables (not the Technics 1200 turntables) and a Realistic mixer via a fellow classmate. That was when Vince finally felt like a DJ.

Throughout the years since the start of Vince’s DJ career, he managed to play several different styles of House Music, Disco and Alternative/Industrial music while playing in several basement/house parties, and special events as well as some high school and corporate functions. As the years passed, he managed to belong to several DJ groups, performing in front of medium to large crowds on occasion. Never feeling satisfied, Vince felt the need for more depth in how he wanted to express his talents and went back to the roots of his knowledge of music. He found himself going back to House Music and Disco.

In the late 90’s to early 2000’s, Vince was searching in the internet for other people or groups that loved Deep House and Disco as much as he did. He found a web site called the “Deep House Page”. During the time of this new discovery, Vince created new influential friendships and developed a deeper knowledge of how House Music was seen through the world’s view via this web site. It was at this time that DJ V-ROD was born.

V-ROD’s eyes were open to a new world of music outside of Chicago. Since then, V-ROD has always looked forward to discovering new music from all over, while still being deeply rooted in the Chicago House Sound. Today, you will find that DJ V-ROD’s style not only consists of House Music music and Disco but he will incorporate other genre’s such as R&B, Retro Alternative, Soft Rock and Latin music in his sets, deeply invigorating his crowds onto the dance floor.

After taking time off to raise his family, V-ROD finds that he is ready for a bigger platform in terms of playing to different clubs and crowds that cater to this style of dance music. He also wants to try his hand at music production and re-edits.

Currently, V-ROD has a weekly internet radio show on www.newagesoul.com which occurs Friday nights 9pm – until??? Central Standard Time U.S.A. Plus he has created a podcast page where he now showcases his recent mixes for the world to hear and is hard at work making his presence known once again to those that followed him and creating a new fan base.
