In Minneapolis and hereabouts Jim Clifford is best known as the bass player for The Wallets, a gone-but-not-forgotten band that was HUGE here in the eighties. He also happens to be one of mine and Kristen's dearest friends. But he's truly a man of wide travel, learning, and experience, and a great storyteller to boot. An hour is not enough time to even scratch the surface with Jim, but it's a start. Intro music is Listen To The Kid, a song Jim co-wrote for his New York band, Marbles, and outro music is a piano piece he wrote and performs called Bikes.
Minneapolis is burning, and we're trying to make some sense of it from our privileged little sanctuary from the mayhem.
Coming to you from Thomas Lowry Park (which we'd been calling 7 Pools Park), we talk about expensive cameras and lenses and, well, the concept of risk.
The trio gathered face-to-face (if by face-to-face you mean ten feet apart) for the first time in weeks, outdoors at Seven Pools Park, right next to Kristen's place. Sorry about the occasional "clipping" (distortion); we're still working out the kinks. And, we love you!
Pandemic realities are taking a toll on the trio. This is not the most energetic podcast you'll ever hear. Plus, we're struggling with sound. But this, like all things, is going to get better... we promise!

April 3, 2020, and we're sheltered and coping. And thankfully, healthy, all three of us and all our people. Except for Dave's dad. Sorrowfully.
It feels like week 2 of our full-on coronavirus lifestyle, and the three of us are settling into the new normal. Hopefully, the new normal will not continue to be skritchy-schratchy podcast-via-Facetime, but who knows how this is all going to play out. In the meantime, we're all three doing okay, and we've got some good streaming recommendations, among other things. And we hope y'all are healthy and safe and keeping your distance!
We're thinking and talking about the same thing as everyone else (remotely, from our own sanctuaries), and at least one of us (Dave) is freaking out a bit, but we still manage to wander off topic for quite awhile.
It's Minnesota High School Boy's State Hockey Tournament time, and Dave's hometown team, Mahtomedi, not only made the tourney, but is (Dave later found out) going to the championship for their very first time! Sadly, Kristen and Pablo don't really care about that or any other sports, for that matter. We discuss at George And The Dragon after a very tasty lunch served by a waiter Kristen wanted to date.
Things are getting a tiny bit more structured around here. We discuss the concept of "legacy," address New Yorker poetry, and make some recommendations.
Another Friday morning at The Kenwood! At one point we talk about pets. Intro and outro music is Shame, by Young Fathers, which is Pablo's current favorite band.
This time we ate before podcasting and tried to come up with a topic or two before we hit the Record button. It seemed like the pre-podcast conversation gravitated toward irresponsible fathers, so when we turned on the machine we embarked from that point and, of course, meandered to other places.
