Welcome to the CJC Weekly Bible Study where the CJC stands for "Complete Jesus Christ." If your understanding of Jesus is based only on teachings from the New Testament, then your understanding is INCOMPLETE. Regarding what we often call the Old Testament, these are the very Scriptures that Jesus said testify about Him! We'd love to have you join us as we study through the Older AND Newer Testaments in our current verse-by-verse study through the first book of the Bible: Genesis. These episodes are typically recording in our live, small-group setting in Santa Ana, California, USA. We're honored to have you join us and we pray that you will be encouraged, challenged and blessed by God! All episodes of this study are available at CJCWBS.buzzsprout.com.

The prophecies come true at the exact time predicted. This is amazing! Yet, at the same time, this is pretty normal in the Bible! God can reveal His plan through dreams, but dreams fade. Wouldn't you rather have God communicate to you in written form rather than in a dream that fades? Oh, wait! He has! In His Word... which we call the Bible! How thoughtful of Him to communicate His love, His plan, His nature and character to us in the Bible!

"Jacob's Estate Grows." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 30:25-42 as its main text. In this episode, we scratch our heads as we look at the methods which are used by Jacob to increase his wealth. "That can't possibly work," we tell ourselves! We count no less than nine instances of wickedness on the part of Jacob to trick his father into giving Jacob the blessing which Isaac intended for Esau.
"Let Your Curse Be On Me." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 27:5-17 as its main text. This title is taken from the very words spoken by Rebekah to her favorite son Jacob. In today's episode, Rebekah and Isaac prepare to deceive and cheat Rebekah's husband Isaac, and Jacob's brother Esau. Can you say "dysfunctional family"?
"The LORD's Ways Are Not Our Ways." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 26:34-27:1 as its main text. Isaac is about to give the blessing to his favorite son Esau and not to Jacob, the one chosen by God! Did Isaac forget the word of the Lord before the twins were born? Or is it possible Isaac is trying to thwart the will of God? Join us as we begin this famous episode in the life of the patriarchs.
"Live in Peace With All." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 26:26-33 as its main text. "Isaac Becomes Very Prosperous." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 26:12-25 as its main text. Who doesn't like to talk about being blessed by God with prosperity? In addition, we look at how Isaac handled repeated persecution from his envious neighbors.

Today, we're reminded that decisions made in fear erode our trust in God, that we need to be mindful of how we behave in public, and we consider the danger of engaging in patterns of intentional sin.
"Like Father, Like Son in Blessings." That's the title of today's episode, where we witness God carrying His promises that He made to Abraham over to Isaac, Abraham's son of promise. We also notice that it seems to be in our greatest times of heartache and need that God speaks His promises most clearly to us, with one of the greatest promises to us being, "I will be with you." Finally, we see that obedience cannot be disregarded as a factor when it comes to being blessed by God.
"Esau Squanders His Future." That's the title of today's episode, where we witness the short-sighted, selfish, foolish decision made by Esau to trade something priceless and lasting in exchange for something inferior just to satisfy his temporary craving. "Finding The Perfect Spouse." That's the tongue-in-cheek title of today's episode, which has Genesis 24 as its main text. In this study, we have a little fun (and a little help from "Mr. Wonderful"!) as we review all of chapter 24 in search of hints and suggestions that may be helpful in finding the "perfect spouse."
"Accompanying A Bride For Isaac." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 24:54b-67 as its main text. In this study, we see Rebekah commit to marry a man she has never met. We ponder the suffering that must have been part of traveling for a month in the desert. We watch as Isaac and Rebekah meet for the first time. We experience for the first time in the Bible the mention of love between a man and a woman who become husband and wife. And we consider it all again as insight into our role as the bride and our relationship with God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
"Securing A Bride For Isaac." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 24:29-54a as its main text. In this study, we meet a new character: Rebekah's brother Laban. We also have some fun considering the details behind the story of this encounter with Rebekah at the well.
"Seeking A Bride For Isaac." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 24:1-10 as its main text. In this study, we see how Abraham the father commissions an unnamed servant to procure a suitable wife for Isaac, his son. We also see how this is a type or a picture of God the Father, who sends His Spirit to procure for His Son a suitable bride.
"Sarah's Burial." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 23:3-20 as its main text. In this study, we see that, though this may have been Abraham's darkest hour, yet God is causing one of His Promises to sprout. We are also reminded that, though we may be taken advantage of in this life, God supplies all we'll need to overcome the obstacles along the path to which He has called us to walk.
"Nahor's Descendants and Sarah's Death." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 22:20-23:2 as its main text. In this study, we run across another list of names, but we take time to pull out some gems from this seeming pile of rubble. We see once again that the Bible speaks from history rather than as myth or legend. In addition, we see evidence of design (suggesting a Designer). And we also see evidence that God prepares a solution even before we're faced with our latest, seemingly impossible problem.
"Abraham Finishes His Final Exam." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 22:15-19 as its main text. We've watched as Abraham has faced one test after another for the last eleven chapters. And a few weeks ago we even graded his performance on a handful of those key tests, and found that his report card was uninspiring! In today's study, we discover that those past tests helped to prepare him for this final exam. Join us today as we evaluate how Abraham did on his final exam. And as you listen, consider that perhaps God provides us tests to prepare us for something bigger yet to come!
"Abraham Begins His Final Exam." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 22:3-14 as its main text. In today's study, we watch as Abraham takes the most difficult test of his life. Everything he has been through thus far has prepared him for this moment. How will he do? But just as God tests Abraham, so He prunes us. How do we do? We should take courage from this test of Abraham, for just as He revealed Himself to Abraham during this most difficult test, so He is with us!
"The Parameters of Abraham's Final Exam." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 22:1b-2 as its main text. In today's study, we here the difficult words of God as he explains to Abraham the parameters of what will turn out to be an ultimate test. We also see many amazing patterns that serve to prophesy of another Father who was willing to sacrifice His Son in this same geographic location. God's fingerprints are all over this chapter!
"Introduction to Abraham's Final Exam." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 22:1a as its main text. Do you remember being in school and taking tests? Do you remember getting grades for those tests? Those tests were seldom fun, but they were intended to prepare us for the Final Exam at the end of the class. Today we're introduced to what I call "Abraham's Final Exam."
"Abraham's Treaty with Abimelech." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 21:22-34 as its main text. In this study, we watch as Abimelech returns and appeals to Abraham to live his life in a manner that is consistent with someone who claims to be a follower of God. We're also challenged to set down roots in this life, yet remain mindful that we're still just passing through.
"The Son of the Free Woman." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 21:8-21 as its main text. In today's study, we look at how God instructed Abraham to do something extremely difficult, and how he had to choose whether or not to trust God. The challenge is the same for us each day. And we also consider Paul's use of this passage and how he likens Isaac's status as the "son of promise" as a foreshadow of our relationship with God.
"The Ultimate Son of Promise is Born." Last week's study was about the birth of Isaac, the "son of promise." This week's study is about the birth of the Ultimate SON of Promise, Jesus! It's a Christmas message that fit nicely into our study through the book of Genesis.
"The Son of Promise is Born." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 21:1-7 as its main text. In this study, we see that God keeps His promises! And as we consider God's track record for keeping His promises, we realize that there is no reason to worry or fear! He has not forgotten! He continues to keep His promises!
"Abraham, Sarah and Abimelech." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 20:1-18 as its main text. In this study, we are marvel at how Abraham fell into the same trap as once before: the trap of fearing man more than fearing God. And this touches on only one of the seven key points from today's lesson!
"The Descendants of Lot." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 19:30-38 as its main text. In this study, we are introduced to the Moabites and the Ammonites, two more ancient people groups from the Bible that have been attested to by findings of archaeology.
"God's Judgment Upon Sodom." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 19:15-30 as its main text. In this study, we find that sin does not go unpunished by God. But thankfully, He extends to us a gracious window of opportunity before sending judgment. We are in that window now, so now is the time to get serious about God!
"A Wild Night in Sodom." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 19:1-14 as its main text. In this study, we read with disgust and horror the story of Sodom's sin deserving of God's righteous judgment. But we also find that we aren't so different from them, meaning that we similarly deserve God's wrath! Yet even in this dark episode, we find God's grace shining through!
"Abraham Bargains With The LORD." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 18:16-33 as its main text. In this study, Abraham intercedes with the LORD on behalf of Sodom. We find that the sins of the Sodomites is more than meets the eye. And we discover that the presence of a few righteous people can have a bearing on the destiny of many unrighteous people.
"Is Anything Too Hard For The LORD?" That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 18:1-16 as its main text. In this study, Sarah laughs at the promise that she will bear a child in her old age. But the LORD challenges her perspective by asking, "Is anything too hard for the LORD?" And that same question challenges (and encourages!) us today!
"Circumcision as a Sign." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 17:9-27 as its main text. In this study, we continue to look at this important chapter on God's covenant with Abraham, this week focusing on the eternal sign of that eternal covenant: circumcision. We'll see that circumcision of the flesh is similar to baptism. And we'll also see that circumcision of the flesh is trumped by circumcision of the heart.
"Abram is Renamed Abraham." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 17:1-8 as its main text. In this study, God changes Abram's name to Abraham. In addition, God reiterates and expands on His promises to Abraham and to his offspring. And we find out that we are invited to be adopted into the family of Abraham, and the story goes from being remote to personal, even becoming the story of our ancestry in the faith!
"The Angel of the LORD and Hagar." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 16:7-16 as its main text. In this study, we meet The Angel of the LORD. We explore the rest of the Bible for clues as to the identity of The Angel of the LORD, and we are encouraged to find that He notices those who are outcast, sorrowful and mistreated. We also read of the prophecies concerning Ishmael made before his birth.
"The Other Woman - Hagar." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 16:1-6 as its main text. In this study, we begin to understand that "conventional wisdom" may not help us in following an unconventional God; that His ways are not our ways; that sometimes our best ideas fall far short of God's ideas. Sarai comes up with a plan that has trouble written all over it. Yet we're not so different!
"The Promised Land (Part 2)." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 15:17-16:1 as its main text. Last week's study pertained to the first half of Chapter 15 which had to do with God's promise of land to the descendants of Abram (Abraham). In today's study, we discover that the Promised Land is much larger than what constitutes the geographic boundaries of the modern nation of Israel, and we wrestle with whether this promise has already been fulfilled, or if it remains yet to be fulfilled. Finally, we're introduced to a new character in the story: Hagar!
"The Promised Land (Part 1)." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 15:7-16 as its main text. Last week's study pertained to verses 1-6 which had to do with God's promise of descendants to Abram (Abraham). This week's study starts in verse seven and has to do with God's promise of land. We also explore the significance of the phrase: "iniquity of the Amorites." Join us as we continue our study in one of the most important chapters of Genesis as well as the whole Bible: Genesis Chapter 15.
"Abraham's Faith Counted As Righteousness." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 15:1-6 as its main text. In today's study, we witness God appearing and re-iterating His promises to Abram (Abraham) yet again! Still desirous of children, Abram must choose whether or not He will continue to believe in God's promise and (trust in God's timing). In believing God, Abram becomes the spiritual example and father of all who have faith in God.
"Melchizedek - Man of Mystery." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 14:17-24 as its main text. Who was this guy? Where did he come from? What is his significance? Why did Abram show him such honor? We look at each of these questions and more in today's study involving this intriguing character who pre-figures Jesus Christ.
"Abram / Abraham Fights to Rescue Lot." That's the title of today's episode, which has Genesis 14:1-16 as its main text. In today's study, we witness Lot pay the price for associating too closely with wicked men.
