Michaela Haswell from Rochester couldn't believe it when presenter Ben Pearce called during kmfm's Getting You Home to reveal she had won £1,000.
The Mum is the latest winner of kmfm's Thousand Pound Friday competition, which gives listeners across Kent the chance to win a £1,000 cash prize every month.
Speaking after the call, Michaela said: "I wasn’t expecting to hear from you." Adding that the prize money will be so nice for her and her family, and plans to spend it on a holiday to Lanzarote.
The surprise call came on Friday evening, making for the perfect start to the weekend and the summer holidays.
Thousand Pound Friday has awarded more than £100,000 to listeners across Kent over the years. Entries open from 6pm every Thursday for 24 hours, with one lucky winner chosen at random each month.

There was a big surprise for Sophie from Sittingbourne this evening when they received a call from kmfm presenter Ben Pearce to tell her she had won £1,000 cash.
The bus driver was revealed as the latest winner of kmfm's popular Thousand Pound Friday competition, which gives listeners across Kent the chance to win a £1,000 cash prize every month.
Reacting to the win, Sophie who is a bus driver, mentioned that winning would really help out, especially after breaking her leg late last year. Winning the money means she can help her Mum with the bills.
The two of them have a break away planned and the money will come in handy then too.

The monthly competition returned at the end of the month following kmfm’s big money giveaway, Crack The Code, continuing the station’s run of big wins for listeners across Kent.

This month,Tony Smith from Ashford got that call from Ben shortly after 6pm, confirming the £1,000 prize would be heading straight into their bank account.

After three weeks of tension, over 70 guesses, and a safe code that refused to budge, one lucky listener has successfully "Cracked the Code" to take home a large cash jackpot.
Sarah Jackson from Folkestone correctly identified the six single-digit code during Getting You Home with Ben Pearce, instantly banking a £2,580.
The competition, which ran five times across the day, saw the prize fund grow after every incorrect combination. Listeners across Kent have been glued to their radios, noting down digits they thought it could be, starting excel spreadsheets, and have even set alarms on their phones so they did not miss a competition round.

Rob and Numi from kmfm Breakfast announced the return of the station’s iconic competition on Monday morning, following a successful month of cash giveaways with ‘Pay My Bills’, which gave listeners the chance to win their share of thousands of pounds to help cover post-Christmas costs.
In 2025, Thousand Pound Friday awarded a total of £13,000 to 13 listeners across Kent, with one lucky winner taking home £1,000 on the final Friday of each month.
The competition runs on the last Friday of every month, with a 24-hour entry window from 6pm Thursday to 6pm Friday, via online or text entry.
The first winner of 2026 was Fiona McLennan from Ashford, who scooped the £1,000 prize and plans to spend it on having her car fixed, and commented that she thinks her boyfriend Joe will suggest that they could even go on holiday.

kmfm’s Pay My Bills campaign wraps up with a £2,000 winnerAfter three weeks, our January competition, Pay My Bills has come to a close after giving listeners the chance to win their share of thousands of pounds to help cover everyday bills.
The final week saw Rob and Numi announce a jackpot increase to £2,000, the biggest prize of the campaign. The final winner was Carla Duffy from West Malling, who was surprised live on air and took home the top prize to help ease the January blues.

One kmfm listener has become the first winner of our brand new game ‘Who’s Got the Cash’ and taken home the £1400 jackpot, after two weeks of gameplay.
Melanie Hollingsbee from Broadstairs said she would put the money towards the summer holidays with her kids Anya and Mia, who she can’t wait to tell when she picks them up from school!
The competition, which started on Monday 26th February gave listeners four opportunities a day to come on air and guess which three mystery celebrities were saying the phrase “Who’s Got the Cash” to win the jackpot.
But you had to be quick! Because for every incorrect gameplay the jackpot total dropped by £50!
Two of the celebrities were guessed in the first four days, so the race was on in week three of gameplay to find that mystery third celebrity. After a clue was put up on kmfm.co.uk this morning, Monday 11th March, Melanie was the listener who finally identified all three of the mystery celebrities and bagged herself the £1400 jackpot on Daytimes with Andy Walker.

The Mum of two has just homed a puppy called Rusty, a 17 week old Kooikerhoindje puppy. Her husband and children were unaware that Candy had won the competition and discovered she had as they were sat in traffic in Dartford on their way home.
Candy plans to book a dog friendly holiday with the prize money and said: "You have no idea how much this means to us as a family - we listen everyday."

One kmfm listener is about to have the Best Year Ever after bagging £2024 on the Kent Radio Station’s Best Year Ever competition on Monday 29th January, after three weeks of intense gameplay.
Becky Croft, From Manston, is expecting a baby girl, and says she will be putting the money towards her baby and her other children.
The competition with Wards, which started on Monday 8th January, gave listeners four chances a day to come on the radio and play. They had to choose three boxes out of 99 containing random words, and find the boxes that said “Best” “Year” “Ever” in the correct order to win £2024 and kick start their year!
Emma Burton from Capel Le Ferne won £20 for finding the first box and Slawomir Bulanda from Dover won £200 for guessing the second box.
But it was Becky Croft in Manston who finally guessed the three boxes and bagged herself the grand prize of £2024.
Presenter Numi said “What a great way to start the year on kmfm, it’s such an addictive competition for us and the listeners! We love hearing listener’s strategies to keep track of all of the boxes that have been picked; from notes apps to group chats!

The Kent Radio Station kick-started the festive season this morning at 8am with an hour of Christmas music with Garry and Chelsea on kmfm Breakfast. It coincidentally began to snow during the same time in parts of Kent, making the hour feel even more festive.
Throughout the day, listeners have been entering via text or online to win the cash jackpot. The competition started at 6pm Thursday and ran for 24 hours, with one listener having the jackpot paid into their bank account next week so they have the money ready to spend on Christmas shopping.
It was Sam Chalmers from Hawkinge who was chosen at random.

Local businessman Mark Lewis makes kmfm listeners year after £1000 Friday
During kmfm’s monthly competition £1000 Friday one local businessman, Mark Lewis from Fleet Luxury Print on the Medway City Estate; was listening to Kent’s Radio Station when he heard Claire Lawson read out what listeners would do if they won the cash jackpot. Alongside holiday dreams, credit card payments, and plenty of other worthy reasons was a message read from Teresa Smith from Medway. The message said: “2 bedroom carpets and stairs and landing, I have been walking on floorboards for 16years as I'm a carer to my disabled hubby so funds have not been available for us to do.” Mark who was listening then called the radio station and offered to arrange carpets for Teresa. Rob Wills from kmfm drivetime spoke to Mark live on air before tracking down Teresa and calling her with the news. Here the emotional call here Mark is now arranging for measurements to be taken of the areas and for the flooring to be completed.
kmfm’s £1000 Friday was back today with Kent’s Radio Station giving out £1000 to a local listener. The station plays the game at the end of every month promising some extra fun money for the month ahead. "2018 Xmas my wife got diagnosed with Bowel Cancer at 38. She had major surgery in Jan followed by 6 mths of gruelling chemo. "My cousin Jamie and his girlfriend India lost their baby Toby when he was just 6 months old in August 2018.
Since then they have raised over £12,000 in his memory (including £2k at a Grease sing-along night a few weeks ago). They are raising money for other families to have access to a ‘cuddle cot’ which allows parents and families to spend longer with their infant.
I would like to send them on a city break to give them some time together if possible"

Rob Wills from kmfm Drivetime will call back one person nightly at 6pm and today's call was to David Homewood in Ashford who was nominated by his colleague Michelle. Michelle Edwards said: "He is an amazing man, he is Patron of the Bromley Green FC in Willesbourgh, Turner Close, Ashford. He eats, sleeps and breathes football and his priority is making children smile. He provides them with food often from his own pocket. He has done this for over 40 plus years. He never ever asks for anything in return and is always happy to give his time to parents and children. He is amazing we love him. Dave has 3 printers that do not work and this is a big battle for him. Because the club is due to be renovated next year he does not want to purchase one. But a good solid all-round printer would be amazing or vouchers towards a decent one. As you can imagine admin for a football club what has over 400 members a working printer is key or something so he can get himself some warm jumpers as he is over the football club working every day and it gets freezing."

He does this by running fishing competitions at his Ashford fishing lake. He has raised thousands of pounds for everyone else, they struggle as a young family but still always think of others first."

The Kent Reliance team were on form today in the sunshine at Shepway Chariots ☀️ Planting, crafting, painting, decorating, shovelling, weeding, sticking, feeding the chickens and so much more! 🐓
Rob caught up with Andy Golding, CEO of OneSavings Bank & Kent Reliance, on day 4 of Project Kent.
The team of volunteers ticked off loads of jobs today at Shepway Chariots in Maidstone for Project Kent.
They built the beehive, created and assembled the bug hotel, scrubbed the classroom floor and planted hanging baskets. Also, they painted sheds, fences and toadstool spots!
The team smashed it today!
The volunteers cleared and weeded the beehive corner ready for the finishing touches to be added later on in the week. Plus, they painted the first coat on the classroom hut walls and gave the shed and fence panels some colour.

We heard from Rebekah Webb about her friend Sian and son Jacob.
"Jacob is an 11-year-old boy whose two younger twin brothers Edward and Austin were both diagnosed with leukaemia at age 2, 6 months apart from each other.
The treatment for the two boys is intensive and will last 3 years, with regular visits to the hospital. Sometimes both twins get admitted to hospital at the same time, requiring mum and dad to be in hospital with them. This is very disruptive and distressing to big brother Jacob who unexpectedly gets picked up from school to stay with grandparents. He also spends lots of time in hospital with the twins at weekends.
He has been an absolute super star throughout all this, taking it in his stride and looking after his brothers as much as he can. For his birthday in September all he wanted was to "spend the day with mummy and daddy" - something that almost didn't happen due to hospital admission for one of the twins. He loves Harry Potter and a visit from Santa with gifts for him and the twins would be a great boost for the whole family."

We heard from Tracey who is currently battling cancer for the second time who wanted to nominate her husband and children for a treat.
"I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2017.
Finished treatment in June 2018 and unfortunately found out in October cancer has come back and spread.
My husband Jason and daughters Chloe (11yrs) and Lilly (9yrs) have had to put up with so much over the last couple of years.
They have been such a support and what has kept me going.
My husband and daughters are amazing and I would love to give them something back to show them how much I appreciate them and love them. It would be great to give my children a magical special day out or weekend away to take their minds off cancer and treatment"

We heard from Daniel Rowing about his friend's son Bailey;
"Bailey-Jae is one of 6 children to Roy and Emma Seaward.
In the early hours one November morning Roy collapsed in their home after having an epileptic seizure.
The family were awoken by this as Roy had fallen down the stairs.
Quick to react, 14-year-old Bailey (who had recently taken part in first aid training at his school in Rochester) realised that his father had stopped breathing; and whilst awaiting the emergency services proceeded to carry out CPR.
Bailey was calm and managed to get his father breathing again, and his actions in such difficult circumstances, at such a young age; has amazed us all.
Bailey's father Roy has just left Medway Hospital and is recovering which is great news. Myself ( his best mate ) and his family and friends would like to show Bailey how much his actions have inspired us all.
Bailey is a big arsenal fan so would like to give him a day to remember at the Emirates if possible. Many thanks"

"Debbie is the most selfless person in the world.
Single mum of four who struggles to make ends meet, Debbie works two jobs to provide everything she can for her kids and still has the time to conduct community projects for the homeless and for the elderly as part of her charity community work with the school she works in.
The students absolutely love her and every time she has a new community initiative for them to get involved in, they flock to be a part of it. Debbie really is amazing and has had a very tough year, she still manages to keep it all together and organise Christmas gifts for the elderly wards at Medway Hospital, Carol singing to raise money for the hospital, stocking and charity appeals for caring hands and an elderly tea party at the school to spread festive spirit. We want to give some festive spirit back for Debbie and her family. It would be lovely if Debbie and her family could have a festive day out together so we can spread some cheer back to her."

"Hello Rob/kmfm.
I would like to nominate my Mother.
She has been a nurse pretty much her whole life but now works at CCU as a Security Officer, although her job title should really be "second mum", because that's exactly what she is to hundreds of students each year.
A lot of them are in need of a mother figure with being away from home for the first time, so she takes it on. She even has the nickname "Mummy Kik".
So I would like to nominate her because through her line of work she has dealt with so so much though she doesn't show it, I know it has really affected her this year.
Throughout all of this she has never once complained! She somehow manages to stay strong through it all and for this, she is my biggest inspiration. So this nomination isn't just from me, but from the thousands of people she has helped and not once asked for anything in return! Anything you could do to lift her spirit this Chrismas would be amazing!!! Thank you"

We heard from Emma Stevens about her son David and best friend Archie, she said
"My son (David age 7) has type 1 diabetes and gets poorly with his blood sugars quite a bit, Archie (age 7) is his best mate.
At school Archie keeps an eye on him so if he starts to get poorly he can tell the teacher fast, he keeps an eye on him the whole day and some times Davids' blood sugars are too high for him to go out to play or in for lunch and Archie will stay by his side even if it means missing playtime or having to go into lunch late.
He is such a great friend David would be lost without him. Archie doesn't have lots and even if he hasn't got the up to date computer, games or trainers he is always great full for what he does have. He melts my heart the way he is so caring towards my son that I think he should have a treat. It wouldn't matter what the treat was as he would be greatful for anything"

" Kim is a 28-year-old mum of two young children, 4 months ago Kim was diagnosed with breast cancer. Since her diagnosis, she has been so strong.
She has raised a lot of money doing a brave the shave charity night, she raised above and beyond her target so was able to split the money between two charities and she is going on to do more charity events to raise more money.
Kim has been very strong and has coped so well with this devastating news and has made sure her children have not been affected. She is such a strong woman but I believe in the last two weeks she has been struggling and feeling a bit down.
I want to nominate Kim to show her she isn't on her own and that everyone is behind her. I think Kim would enjoy a day out with her children and family or a nice relaxing spa for after her treatment."

Make her Christmas special. She is a lovely lady who always puts others first she is so generous and warm often carrying out random acts of kindness. In December she is donating her kidney to enable her neighbour to get a kidney transplant who has been very ill for two years.

We heard from Katie Jones about her 11-year-old daughter Alice, she said "I would love to nominate my daughter Alice to receive a computer and printer. Alice is a young carer and helps me a lot at home with her younger siblings and housework as well as dealing with her own stress and anxieties.
She has recently started a new school and is thriving even though it waa a massive step for her. Her dream is to be an author and she has already started writing a book which is already fantastic. Thing is her laptop has broken and with it being Christmas I can't afford to replace that as well as get gifts for her 5 siblings. I work full time and my husband is a carer and we struggle to make ends meet. I just know this could be the step to making her dream a reality and allow her to finish her book."

She is a child carer and for the last year, I have been recovering from a severe relapse in health. But it doesn't fault her shine and she continues to stay so positive and kind. But not just me, Belle goes out of her way to always help others, I recently was told she read to a disabled girl in her school and she will always be the first to help someone up, she sets an example which put a lot of grown-ups to shame. She deserves a day off of helping me, I know she'd love to go to lego land."

£1000 Friday closes for the final time in 2018!
After giving £15,000 this year Liam King from Ashford won the competition in its 16th round.
Liam was lucky to get the call after the first listener randomly generated didn't pick up their phone and the call went to answerphone!
Liam text in during the breakfast show with Garry and Laura.

Amanda Clarke from West Kingsdown has won kmfm's 'Thousand Pound Friday' competition.
On the last Friday of the month, from 8am until 5:50pm Kent listeners can enter to win the cash jackpot that is then delivered to the winner.

The team are ready to sugar soap, filler, sand, paint, drill and to add a splash of colour to the charity’s headquarters.
The ‘Young Lives Foundation’ is an independent children’s charity who help vulnerable, and disadvantaged children, and young people across the county. The area that is getting the Project Kent VIP treatment is the ground floor of the charity’s Maidstone building which is where the children and young people do their homework, socialise and use it to chill out. It is also used for mentoring sessions and visitor meetings as well as an office workspace. The Project Kent team of volunteers will be creating a welcoming and warm vibe as opposed to the plain, office-looking environment that it gives off now.
Brewers Decorator Centres heard what Project Kent is doing for the Young Lives Foundation and wanted to get involved. They have provided the team with all of the different colours of paint, accessories and materials they need to make the transformation, including filler, gloss, sandpaper, sugar soap, rollers and paint brushes.

20sec update: Today the team have had a hard job working in the heat! Removing all the staples, blue tack and things on the walls. The guys have been washing down the walls ready for tomorrow's painting to begin. Some work on the floor has started and a few bits of painting too!

Brewers Decorator Centres heard what Project Kent is doing for the Young Lives Foundation and wanted to get involved. The final night of Make Someone's Christmas with Kent Reliance and it was a special one! After receiving this email from mum Vicki about her daughter Maci, we knew we had to welcome her into the station! Day 10 and here is the nomination! "My daughter Maci is 7 years old and the most caring child I know. In the summer she spent her whole 6 week holidays fundraising for the Canterbury charity catching lives which helps the homeless. She managed to raise £770 and bought sleeping bags and made Christmas boxes for all of the clients. She has raised a further £218 which she will use to again buy sleeping bags and other essentials. She really is so giving and selfless. On her Christmas list this year she has simply put she wants a good life. I would love to be able to surprise her." So we did!

Shannon is having all her hair shaved of for charity. She is donating her hair to Little Princess Trust and raising money for two causes.
Half of the money will be going to Macmillan and the other half to a friend at school who is remission from cancer.
Shannon is only 11 years old and doing a very brave thing.

I'm nominating my son, Woody Martin. He's a little boy and is 11 years old on 20th December.
He's just been amazing. We have a little girl, Winnie, who has Down's syndrome and is fighting cancer. She has had heart failure and liver failure. She is 7 years old.
Woody has been the best brother in the world. He has been up at 3 o'clock in the morning and he just loves her so much.
This little boy gets pushed aside because so much time gets taken up with hospital and doctors appointment and running around for Winnie. So I would like to nominate, Woody.

Day 7 comes from Amy Brookman, who nominated her 8 year old Son, Albie.
Albie is just 8 years old. He is a very usual boy with a very special heart. Albie thinks in a completely unique way and is more empathetic than anyone I’ve ever met.
A couple of examples, Albie, for his birthday asked to sponsor a lion. He didn’t care for gifts he just wanted to help stop extinction.
Albie recently raised over £150 for children’s cancer charity after waking up saying, ‘I want to help make poorly children more comfortable.’ He worked hard selling merchandise and was very proud of himself.
But the thing that is most admirable about Albie is how he inspires others. His fundraising has now prompted family members to climb Ben Nevis for children with cancer charity. Albie just thinks beautiful thoughts and has a maturity that helps him act on these thoughts! I love that he even suggested if he was Prime Minister of the jungle (watching I’m A Celeb) that the first rule he would make is that everyone would get a turn in the comfy bed!
He really does make so many people happy and I think this treat could help nurture his desire to continue doing good for people who need it most.
For his treat could I suggest a mini break, he would love to see Father Christmas or Mickey Mouse. But in honesty Albie would be so pleased with any gesture; I know this because I know how much any act of kindness means to my angel Albie. Thank you.

Day 6 nomination comes from Yvonne Roberts, nominating Karen Morgan and here is why!
Karen is a tiny dynamo of a woman! Karen is coming up to 59 years old but she has the drive and energy of a 20 year old!
I have never met anyone with so much energy and so focused on everyone else except herself. Karen has a disabled son who is now 21 years old.
She has worked tirelessly to understand his difficulties by working in a school for disabled children and being as involved as she could with the disabled community.
She has worked wonders with her son and although now, she has very reluctantly found assisted living accommodation for him, she continues to be very involved with him each and every day.
She is an amazing mother, and she also looks after her mother which is almost a full-time job in itself since her Mum had a stroke earlier this year.
Karen is also a very active member of the Centre mind body spirit that I run. If I need any assistance from opening the doors if I can’t make it, to painting the walls and glossing the paintwork to offering her services as a Reiki healer for free (donations to the Centre) and rarely misses a week, unless it’s to help her mum or sun.
Karen has rescued two dogs and they are much loved and looked for.
In addition to all this, there are so many friends that owe her a debt of gratitude just for being there when they need help. Again, from taking them for hospital appointments, to dog sitting, to taking them in when in trouble, to just being on the end of the phone to listen to their problems. In all the time I have known her, which is about 5 years, I have rarely ever heard her say no to anyone. Despite running from one thing to another, she makes it work.
I know there are times, she is totally exhausted but even then she will still be there if you need her. What would I like you to do for her? I think she deserves a spa weekend to be pampered, a nice room, with nice food and some lovely treatments. I am sure, she would be so overwhelmed at something like this. She never ever asks for anything for herself, and I for one am privileged to call her a friend.
She has enhanced my life and her generosity to everyone and especially me, knows no bounds. I would love to see her get something back for her, and just for her. Please consider her as she is so deserving of something special. Thank you

Day 5 from 12 year old, Tyler Barrett, who nominated his parents.
My Mum and Dad do everything for everyone and always go without themselves. I never see them treat themselves, and they didn’t even have a honeymoon when they married 5 years ago.
I am 12 years old and they have not once gone away without us on a holiday.
My Dad gives up his free time to help the Charing Sports and Social club with their field duties, as well as being a retained Fireman for the Village.
My mum works very hard. When she isn’t working she is looking after everyone, whether it’s me and my sister or her 3 sisters and their children.
She also helps some local businesses including the social club, cricket club with their social media for free.
This Christmas I know they are struggling a little bit, and I just wanted to make sure that they have a Christmas this year with my sister and me.
I just don’t want them to miss out because they sacrifice a lot for us and I want to pay them back in Kind.

Day 4 is a nomination from Kirk Wyatt for his best friend, Mark Cordina and his daughter, Amelia.
I would like to nominate my best friend Mark Cordina and his 6 year old daughter Amelia.
3 months ago his wife and her mother got taken ill with an ear infection, but later that night she was pronounced dead due to meningitis.
Neither of them had a chance to say goodbye to his wife or to her mother.
Mark has had to quit his job to look after Amelia and deal with the enormous tasks his wife used to undertake while looking after Amelia while he worked.
Mark has done an amazing job continuing and I have helped him to do as much as I can along with other friends. We helped him raise the funds for Vikki's funeral, and although this short piece of information I give you contains the basics there is so much more to this story.
Vikki was also helping to run constant care in the community for the elderly, and I believe whole heatedly that they both deserve a treat.

Day 3 is a nomination from Nicole King's Mum, Phillipa.
Nicole is my daughter, and she's 16 years old. Just before her 14th birthday Nicole was rushed into hospital because she lost the use of her legs.
We found out that Nicole had a condition called SUFE and she may not walk again as it was so severe.
A week later she had her first surgery which was a temporary measure as she needed extensive surgery on both hips which could not be carried out until they could find the right doctor.
She had the first surgery in the August and spent her 14th birthday in bed as she was unable to walk.
In September she had her second surgery which was one of two hip reconstruction surgeries which lasted eight hours.
She was very poorly after and needed a blood transfusion.
Getting home from this surgery, Nicole was unable to use her legs to even stand and spent the whole time in bed on in a wheelchair.
Finally she had the last surgery the second hip reconstruction surgery in January, and luckily she wasn't so poorly after this one and we were home in a few days.
She spent nearly a year in a wheelchair unable to walk.
Nicole now has a condition called AVN which means she needs hip replacements as the surgery unfortunately did not work.
Nicole was a happy beautiful girl who loved to dance go out with her friends play sports and this has all been taken away. She can No longer do any physical activities like running, jumping or dancing. She's unable to walk long distances without having to take a break and rest, but she doesn't let it get her down.
Through out this whole illness she has smiled laughed and kept us going as a family. Her attitude to life has changed and she makes the most of everything now - she is a true fighter, and is becoming a beautiful young lady.
She now calls her 12 inch scars her battle scars, where as before she would cry about them.
Nicole is now at college studying child care as she wants to work with special needs children. We thought this may not be possible as Nicole missed Year 10 at school due to the illness, but in Year 11 she battled through the pain and walking difficulties to catch up on work. She spent lunch breaks and after school catching up, and achieved her GCSE's.
I am so proud of my daughter and if it wasn't for her I think my family would have fallen apart.
If Nicole is chosen I would love her to have a day where she is treated like a princess. She loves make up, hair and clothes and I would love for her to get a makeover. I know this would mean so much to her. Thank you for reading.

Mum created the Christmas day lunch club 6 years ago. Through this, she organises and cooks Christmas dinner on Christmas day for elderly people who would be on their own. She organises for them to come to the village hall in Lyminge so they can enjoy Christmas day with lots of other people, great food and entertainment. I really think she deserves a special Christmas treat as she continues to do this on Christmas day to make sure other people have a fabulous day.

"Tracey leads Sittingbourne Scouts and she is out, all kinds of weather throughout the year supporting Scouting to happen in and around Sittingbourne. Paul's team are instrumental in this project.
They will be performing some serious renovation work including opening up the changing room, removing walls and building walls, fitting a brand new kitchen, electrical works and laying new flooring throughout the centre with the help from some suppliers.
Without their help this project would not have been possible.

kmfm has teamed up with Kent Reliance to launch ‘Project Kent’, an exciting hands-on community based project. Kent Reliance wants to help projects that are in need; whether it be a scout hut that needs repairing, a community garden that needs restoring or a soup kitchen that needs refurbishing, Kent Reliance want to get involved and help out. Kent Reliance are a bank who specialise in offering their customers savings accounts; with branches across the south east Kent Reliance ‘concentrates on offering award winning savings accounts’, providing their customers with the best deals. kmfm and Kent Reliance want to help make an impact within the local community. Both based within Kent, they want to give back to the community and what better way to do it than to have the public decide which projects are the most in need. Launched in the first week of July, nominations took place over 2 weeks with the process ending on Sunday 16 th July. During the week commencing Monday 17 th July the judging panel, consisting of the KM Media group, kmfm presenters and representatives from Kent Reliance, have gone through over 100 nominations to decipher who the finalist(s) were to be. The process involved visiting various nominations to view them first hand, take pictures and further inquire about their requirements and what works needed to be carried out. This allowed us to decipher which nominations we could realistically help leading to us deciding who our finalists were. After the publics’ overwhelming response to ‘Project Kent’ we are happy to announce that we have chosen our final projects!
Farthing Corner Community Centre, Rainham, ME8 8RZ Based in Rainham, this community centre was built over 30 years ago by local residents. The charity- run community centre welcomes over 100 children and adults each week, housing various clubs ranging from dance classes to Rainbows. Unfortunately, due to changing needs, clubs have left the premises and gone elsewhere affecting the centres usage capabilities. Over time the centre has fallen into disrepair and is desperately in need of a makeover. The kitchen, used as a prepping area, is dated and needs to be refurbished to allow the space to be used more efficiently; the bathroom is old and start to become damp, needing to be updated to make it fresh and vibrant. The changing facilities are also cramped and in need of some structural alteration to make it open-planned and more usable by those who attend the centre. Updating the community centre would encourage new groups to use the area as well as welcome back old groups into the space; membership would also increase meaning the centre would be used and enjoyed by more people.

Beltinge Day Nursery, Herne Bay, CT6 6TA Based in Herne Bay this day nursery is charity-run, catering for children aged 2-5 years. The nursery is positioned on the same grounds as Reculver Church of England Primary School with most children from the nursery progressing into the primary school. The nursery is open during term time and is always attempting to raise money, such as through summer fetes, to provide the nursery with new toys. The day nursery’s garden is in desperate need of some TLC to make it safer and more engaging for the children; the flooring comprises of half Astroturf, which has become worn out, and half tiled slabs, which have started to become a tripping hazard. The nursery can cater for children with mobility issues meaning that a safe even floor will benefit them tremendously. We are pleased to have been awarded a grant from the Colyer-Fergusson Charitable Trust to deliver Think Differently, our free drug and alcohol education and intervention sessions to secondary schools across Kent and Medway.
Using real life stories and experiences from individuals with previous drug and alcohol addictions, ex-offenders and current prison volunteers, Think Differently engages with young people raising awareness of the issues and potential consequences of drug and alcohol dependency. It helps young people to see these issues of crime and addiction and how it affects people. It outlines starkly that if they continue to follow the path they are on, then there will be multiple, negative consequences. Think Differently can help young people to make an informed choice due to contact and conversation with people who have been caught up in crime and addiction, because their lives have been affected by substance misuse.
Think Differently can be tailored to meet the individual needs of your school and/or particular year groups. It can be delivered to the whole school via an assembly, to specific year groups or to a small group of targeted individuals who may already be experimenting with drugs and alcohol or a risk of using drugs and alcohol. Our funding also enables us to offer an additional follow up day with a member of the Kenward in the Community team to offer further group/one to one work with individuals.
