Gwenn Nolan started a logistics company more than she started a composting business. In part 2 of our interview with Gwenn we dive into the operational side of the business. We explore what she’s learned in order to scale because food scraps, compost, and saving the planet is only a small part of Mother Compost,
As leader she shared that she learned not to verbally process every thought and idea with her team. She also had to figure out the most effective way to pick up food waste and drop off compost during road construction,

Law School is Hard and Passing the Bar is Even Harder Alison Monahan was a successful patent attorney who was tired of selling her time. She finally quit her job to write the book she’s been talking to friends about when she connected with her now business partner.
Together, they formulated Law School Toolbox, an educational platform to help law students succeed during law school and help them pass the Bar Exam more easily.
Their inspiration came out of Alison’s frustration with questions on the Bar Exam that had no relevance to the type of law she had practiced.
Alison and her business partner, Lee did what many business owners have done when it comes to partnering up. They didn’t spend a ton of time working out the details of how their partnership would work. Unlike a lot of partnerships, however. theirs has blossomed over the years because of how they communicate.

“The individual is not the primary unit of existence in the world. The pandemic and related disruptions we've seen in the last 2 years have caused me to understand how interdependent we all are as living beings. Tune in and discover how the power of having a tribe can impact one's life in very positive ways!
Mark has a passion for helping leaders grow organizations that are catalysts for a better world and believes that a strategy only works if you take every part of a business into consideration. IP-based businesses may not always look like they have assets to protect, but that’s because they are often service based. Their assets are their creations, processes and other intellectual properties. In this episode, Emi Kirschner interviews Erin Austin, lawyer and founder of Think Beyond IP as they discuss leveraging saleable assets for maximum growth and profit. Erin talks about the need for contracts, working with women entrepreneurs, and “finding the Rembrandt in the attic” – that hidden or overlooked asset that can be leveraged for maximum value.
As a leader, building a team that works cohesively isn't always about having the right answers to give them. More often the value is in asking the right questions. On today’s episode of the Tribe of Leaders, David Wheatley, the Chief Question Asker at Humanergy, a boutique leadership development company, shares how his experience as a police officer in the UK helped him see every challenge as an opportunity. Make sure to check out his book, What Great Teams Do Great: How Ordinary People Accomplish The Extraordinary, and where you can access new chapters for greater insight.
Have you felt like there is so much more you could be doing if only life wasn't throwing you lemons on an all to regular basis? Modern Sage, Leah Guy joins me this week to talk about unlocking your highest potential. Listen in as she shares her personal story of tragedy and triumph along withWhat is your three-step method to quiet negative thoughts and eliminate bad behaviors? eCommerce has become the hottest new business venture of the pandemic and post-pandemic world. What does it take to break in and succeed in this space? Raj discusses customer-centric marketing, the changing needs of consumers and what companies need to do to stay ahead of the curve. This is a must-listen episode if you’re interested in eCommerce.
To paraphrase the ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu, people must be strong like water, yet we must also be gentle like soft flowing streams. This means finding the right balance between courage and compassion, power and tenderness, be it in your personal or professional life. In this episode, our host Emi Kirschner is joined by the Chief People Officer of Allbirds, Laila Tarraf. Laila shares her experiences growing and learning how to gain balance in her life. She discusses sustainability, balancing your personal and work life, what she learned during the time she was writing her book, and dealing with grief.
Many see the world of professional builders as a man’s industry, but women are starting to play an even bigger role, and they’re breaking all the rules and driving success. Emi Kirschner is joined in conversation by the co-founder of the Association of Professional Builders, Sky Stephens. Sky talks about starting up a business, partnering with her father and their early missteps and how they addressed these. She discusses how people often misunderstand the roles of women in the professional building industry and why more women are becoming visible in this space. Finally, they discuss the company’s success and their growth goals moving forward.
If you’re a business owner with no end plan, you’re not in it for the long run. Michelle Seiler Tucker joins Emi Kirschner to explain what a merger and acquisitions advisor is and how they’re beneficial to business owners. Michelle is the founder and CEO of Seiler Tucker, Inc., and she’s the best person to talk about businesses and how entrepreneurs can work towards selling them in the years to come. According to Michelle, entrepreneurs need to think about their end goal, what do they want to happen with their business, and what they can do to make that happen. It’s not easy to sell a business and you can’t just have one buyer and call it quits. It takes time and it’s a lot of processes that Michelle says most business owners don’t know about.
In this digital day and age, can you imagine PR without a website nor any marketing material? Probably, not. But just because it seemed impossible doesn’t mean it is. My guest for this episode was able to overcome the odds. Andrea Holland, the founder and CEO of Remote PR Jobs, became a PR Goddess even after starting her business without a website and any marketing material. What she had was her story. Join Andrea and me in today’s conversation as she takes us through her journey of being a digital nomad, jet-setting abroad doing business, along with the hurdles she faced in the way—from cultures to time zones and everything in between. She also breaks down some misconceptions about PR and shares tips that will get you in the door. Looking forward, Andrea then tells us about her plans for the future and what she is hoping to integrate into her business post-COVID. Learn what it takes to grow your brand and business halfway across the world, all the while doing the unexpected, in this great discussion!
Great leadership is more than just making orders and micromanaging your team. What most people find toxic about the corporate world is dealing with an environment that makes them feel undervalued and not fulfilled. For James Hilliard, business coach, public speaker, and CEO and founder of The Impact Mastery Blueprint, the cost of unfulfillment is venturing out, leaving the corporate world, and launching his own business. He talks to Emi Kirschner about the big impact of great leadership and fulfillment that goes beyond just earning money. He then shares about The Impact Blueprint and his goal to help business professionals get their lives back and go from frustrated to fulfilled.

When you listen to thought leaders and motivational speakers speak on stage and your life changed around because of their inspiring message, you can hear a voice within you saying that you, too, have a story to tell. The truth is, all of us are called to share a message that matters, to use our own voices of transformation and the lessons learned to serve others. How do you start on a speaking career?
Our guest in this episode of the Tribe of Leaders podcast is Michelle Barry Franco, a high-impact speaking coach of founders, leaders, authors and transformational healers of all kinds and she helps them tell their stories and change lives with their message. When my guest, Megan DiMartino started her Tupperware business, she never imagined that she would become a serial entrepreneur including launching her own skin care brand that’s sold to salons, spas and medical spas, on her own website and Amazon? It was, however, her Tupperware business where she learned to build teams, helping people work together and actualize their successes.
I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to interview Megan, who started her career in the fashion-beauty industries during the early 1970’s in New York City. As the President and CEO at Novita Spa Clinical Products and Mineral Cosmetics. She has been one of the pioneers in result oriented medical grade skin care and has built two skin care lines, Glycolique and Novita Spa Clinical products. She is also a speaker and best selling author.

Being vulnerable is scary but being in that place is the best place to be because that's where growth really happens. Just like singing in front of the audience, you become vulnerable to all the criticisms and very much like coaching, you are open to such. There is fear, but by opening yourself up and showing your whole authentic self, from a place of love and compassion, you can lead people to see their own worth.
