Hello everyone. We're back. Well... to be more precise, I am back. This is the new version of PDSMiOS. One guest with me (Joel) talking about a sci-fi movie we decided on together. An Important WARNING for those with young ones or those sensitive to cursing, I AM NO LONGER BLEEPING OUT THE CURSE WORDS. This decision is based on feedback from a few listeners. Anyway, enough house keeping. My guest on this episode is someone I can now call an old friends of mine. He has been my recording partner on Shoot the Piano Player, We Cut Heads, and High and Low. He has been part of the perfect trio that performs on The Arbitrary Indiscriminate Movie Podcast. He is the one called Spencer Seams and he has picked an amazing movie called Burst City from 1982! It is difficult to describe Burst City in terms of subgenre. Let me just say it is part Repo Man, part Fury Road, part A Hard Day's Night, and the rest is some of the most interesting stuff put on film.

This week, we let Aaron dig back into the dustiest part of has brain, and when he emerged again he had for us SpaceHunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone from 1983! Wolf is a lone wolf who takes a mission to rescue a few fancy ladies from a planet on the crusty side of the universe. It should all be a piece of space cake, but of course, it never works out that way. Once Michael Ironside gets his nasty claws on the womens, Wolf has no choice but to team up with Molly Ringwald (pre John Hughes era!) and Ernie Hudson (the true hero of any movie he's in) to storm the compound and get what he came for!

Thanks to listener Bud, we watched the amazing Roger Corman produced movie Battle Beyond the Stars from 1980! This movie is heavy on the models, heavy on the star power, and cheap on the effects. This week, we watched A Life Less Ordinary from 1997, directed by the great Danny Boyle. Young Robert (Ewan McGregor) has dreams of one day quiting his crappy job and becoming a trash novel writer. But when the decision is made for him, he decides the only thing left to do is grab a gun and kidnap his boss' daughter Celine (Cameron Diaz). What could possibly drive a man to this stage of desperation? Turns out, 2 crazy angels (Delroy Lindo, Holly Hunter) have to make Robert and Celine fall in love, or else get kicked out of heaven for good! Their crazy plan unfolds brilliantly in this black comedy. This movie is a favorite in Casa De PDSMiOS, and we hope you dig it too!

This week, Aaron hijacked a submarine so that we could build a utopian society with the sole purpose of worshiping Toho films! Or we watched Latitude Zero from 1969, I forget. In this under sea adventure, 2 scientists and a nerd get rescued (kidnapped?) and taken to a magical land under the sea, where everyone gets along and there are no animal-human hybrids at all! Nope, those are only outside of the secret bubble, crafted by the skilled hands of the evil Dr. Malic (Cesar Romero). Will our heroes ever return home? Do they even want to? What's with all the trampolines? These questions and more are not answered on this new episode!

Miles (Moles) is simple man not ready for the high tech world of the 80s, but when he finally decides to get with the times and purchase a home computing system, his chances of survival drop significantly! Luckily, his new upstairs neighbor just might be able to save his sanity, if he can just STOP LYING ALL THE TIME. THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT MILES. Also, there's a crazy sentient PC.

This week, we read the little-known sequel to Mary Shelley's classic book, Frankenstein! That's right, we are switching to books, starting with this one called I, Frankenstein from 2014! The book is oddly not really about the monster, but rather about an eternal war between demons and gargoyles. And there's a lot of explosions and clubbing and the other kind of clubbing. Oh, and Frankenstein's Monster is just called Adam, or Frankenstein, so let's nip that little detail in the bud right away. Also, this book stars Aaron Eckhart. This week, we journey half way across the globe to discover the secret of eternal life, and also to watch a movie in French. You can only watch Foreign language movies in the country of origin, right? We watched The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec (Les Aventures extraordinaires d'Adèle Blanc-Sec), a wonderful adventure movie directed by one of our favorite Auteurs, Luc Besson. In this movie, Adele Blanc-Sec is a report in search of the secret of life, which takes her to Egypt to go a tomb raidin'. Meanwhile, a pterodactyl gets loose in Paris. And then a man is wrongly accused of a crime and must be prison-breaked. And a whole bunch of things happen. It was pretty great.

Yes, Voldar (aka the martian with the mustache) tries to do his best for Mars, but he is constantly undermined by Billy and Betty and Santa and Dropo and every other freaking weirdo in this movie! This movie is actually pretty entertaining, and we had a good time puzzling out all the ins and outs of it.

This week on Please Don't Send Me into Outer Space, we popped in an old tape we found in a dumpster behind the local Denny's. It's label read "Most likely the worst movie ever made, or at least in the bottom 10, according to popular opinion and the internet at large." Turns out, it was the movie Plan 9 from Outer Space from 1959! Famous for being bad, this Ed Wood movie is actually quite charming once you get past the super cheap set, the sometimes subpar acting, and the plot that is as good as most sci-fis from the era. And hey! The movie is in the public domain, so you can gather the family around the ol' YouTube app and watch along with us!

This week, in this dark and uncertain future we decided to pack up the kids and take a road trip to Eden by watching Logan from 2017! This is as good a send off to a character as we've seen, and we're going to miss Hugh Jackman in our comic book movies. With that in mind, it was great to see him slice and dice in a rated R format, although it is incredibly unnerving to hear Professor X cursing, so prepare yourself for that.

This week, we had an accident with our recording equipment and had to hire a tracker to go out to Walmart and get us new stuff. After that was finished (the tracker died on the way home unfortunately) we watched Cherry 2000 from 1987! Melanie Griffith plays a bad ass tracker who gets a job from a yuppie (David Andrews) who wants his damn sex robot! It turns out to a be a pretty fun action adventure movie, that just happens to center around robot. For sex.

This week, we decided to try something new and watch something relatively new. Alien: Covenant from 2017! In this direct sequel to Prometheus, a crew of idiots go off course because they decide it'll be easier to go to a nearby planet rather than the sure-thing already vetted planet they were originally heading to. These dumbos, these morons, they end up in dangerous situations and keep on getting themselves into deep $#1!. Also, there are some aliens in this movie.

This week, Aaron found a DVD in the garbage or something, so we watched Desert Warrior from 1988! Lou Ferrigno stars as a... well, a desert warrior, trapped in a future with no clean food, no clean water, and worst of all, no clean women. THAT'S RIGHT, this movie is mostly about getting a lady who won't have a mutant baby after a bun gets put in her over. Put Mr. Ferrigno can't help but show his sensitive side (he's a lover, not a fighter) and he takes his chance for true love, and almost destroy a society in the process.

This week, we watched what every one thought Avatar was ripping off, and I don't mean Dances with Wolves. Ferngully: The Last Rain Forest from 1992, starring fairies, a sexy lizard, and a sexy smog monster! This piece of animation came out in a critical Disney period, after The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast, and many children of a certain age have fond memories of Ferngully and its save the planet message. In our opinions, it mostly holds up! Jam to the music with us while the forest burns down, because it feels good to shake your bat wings every once in a while!

This week, we watched an adventurous tale full of adventures and tales. And farts and farts and pee and farts poop butts. Jabberwocky from 1977, a film directed by Terry Gilliam. This has much of the Monty Python comedy seen in movies like The Holy Grail and Life of Brian. It is also way more of a straight forward narrative then either of those. But it all got us laughing and that's a pretty good sign for a movie.

Likely he dies in the first 3 minutes of the movie. Sort of. When Charlie comes back to life in a different body, a REALLY different body. Charlie figures out there are few ways he can take advantage of his new "situation", and that is when things get GROSS. I mean, funny gross, but still gross.

Mild mannered Jobe (Jeff Fahey) becomes the lab rat of Dr Angelo (Pierce Brosnan) who really wants Virtual Reality to work out. Like, real bad. I know what you're saying, we have the Gear VR and the Optimus Rip or whatever nowadays; but back in the day? VR was just a headache with graphics on par Minecraft, if Minecraft was made by a baby. But one of themes of this movie is technology and how it seems to leap and bound every year into new territory. It's only a matter of time before YOU, THE LISTENER, are left behind. Actually, I think the only lesson this movie has to teach us is that sometimes you just need to take your wife to the city ok?

SUMMED UP! Featuring the acting style of the cast of Re-Animator, several special effects artists, and Mark Hamill with a mustache, this beat-em-up action creature feature is almost so bad it's good. He goes on a road trip to find his lost love, bringing his only friend, the moody musician, with him and picking up someone unexpected along the way. It's a movie about getting on with your life after giving up on your life. And it is FUNNY. Check it out if you are looking for something surprisingly light hearted!

This week, we watched what we all consider to be a classic of the recently deceased variety, the movie Beetlejuice. In the year of our Lord 1988, that young upstart Tim Burton was still showing us what he was made of. His follow up to Pee-wee's Big Adventure was this movie, and although it took a slightly more adult tone than the former it should still be viewed through a lense of childhood joy. His plaything were these movies, these stories, and we were very lucky to experience them at the time, in their time. If you haven't seen Beetlejuice in a while, I suggest you give it a watch. This week, we randomized up the board game movie Zathura: A Space Adventure, starring Josh Hutcherson, Jonah Bobo, Kristen Stewart, Tim Robbins, and Dax Shepard. This movie tanked pretty hard at the box office, and after seeing it for ourselves, we cannot really find a reason. Sure, it's not nearly as ambitious as Jumanji was, but it was a pretty entertaining time for a kids movie. I'm supposed to be funny in these discriptions? Eh, who has the time. Directed by Jon Favreau, aka the director of Made (and Iron Man 1 and 2, and Elf)!

This week on chicken out theatre, Joel decided he couldn't take Tetsuo the Iron Man, and so the other host acquiesced to watching the 1988 movie They Live. Directed by John Carpenter, you can't help but love the balls on a movie like this. When was the last time a movie stood up to the establishment and said "Hey! You are real ugly! Also, stop brainwashing us!"

This week, we watched a movie recommended to us called Hawk the Slayer, because 1 person demanded it, and damn it we are people pleasers if nothing else. The story of a warrior and his glowing blue Mind Sword, this movie was a Dungeons and Dragons campaign come to life... sort of. Gotta give it up for Jack Palance for not only chewing on the scenery, but also regurgitating it and birding it to out willing mouths. Mmm. I feel sick now. So get your fill this week of dwarves and giants, nuns and hunchbacks. And best of all, sweet sweet bass beats.
This week, Joel picked Repo Man from 1984, a science fiction movie that is really more about Punk and being Punk than anything out of this world.
