When faced with strong reactive emotion, we are usually unable to understand that our emotions are dynamic and start acting like wind-up toys doing the same motions, not being aware of other possibilities and options.
We get stuck in our emotions due to our spiralling mind, our fixation with old ideas and behaviours, our need to be always right, perfectionism and thinking in absolute terms.
Things We Do To Cope-Up With Negative Feelings
These are the three usual suspects, stuff we do to cope-up with our emotions:
Bottling up our emotions, leading to stress.
Brooding over our emotions, which usually leads to self-blame.
Forcing ourselves to see everything as positive, which can be delusional in many cases.
Get Unstuck: Cultivating Emotional Agility
Acknowledge and accept the various bad ways used to cope-up with negative emotions.

Laziness: One Of The Seven Deadly Sins
Laziness or Sloth is the disinclination to use energy and is seen as a negative trait in most cultures.
Being lazy has also been associated with being a slacker, or a good-for-nothing person wasting time.
New scientific research tells a completely different story and lists out a few advantages of being a couch potato. Being tactically lazy can actually be good for us.
“Progress isn’t made by early risers. It’s made by lazy men trying to find easier ways to do something.”
Robert A. Heinlein
Nature seems to reward laziness, and many species of reptiles and animals are notoriously slow and sleep most of the day.
Humans may be seeing laziness upside down, as it may not really be a sign of inefficiency or unproductivity, but a result of being able to work smartly and free up time to do nothing. Sitting lazily can also trigger further smart work.
The Benefits Of Laziness Part 1
Many smart solutions like the remote control, smart speakers, escalators and even the light switch are the work of lazy people.
Lazy people often actively procrastinate, and unlike the ‘passive’ procrastinators, they have better control over their work and time and perform well under pressure.
As lazy people see their energy as an expenditure that can be saved like time or money, they avoid unnecessary, low-output tasks, and prefer high-leverage tasks.
Lazy people are the pioneers of automating, delegating or eliminating monotonous and time-consuming tasks.
The Benefits Of Laziness Part 2
Lazy people are able to cope up better with stress due to procrastination and ‘killing time’.
They are able to regain control over their time and their own body and mind, recharging themselves and avoiding burnout.
Mind-wandering or diffuse thinking is the opposite of focussed thinking and is what the brain needs to be able to process information, leading to creative and innovative solutions to problems.
The Benefits Of Laziness Part 3
Slacking is good for our mental health, as being distracted and busy blocks our thoughts and feelings, leading to suppression of truth, and many mental ailments can arise from avoiding our real thoughts.
Resting and staying idle recharges our ‘energy stores’ just like a daytime nap refreshes us. Breaks are good for the body.
Many problems just need time to be auto-solved, and taking action may be detrimental to them. Lazy people often wait out and let the problem die on their own.
Being lazy may be an indication of a lack of motivation, lethargy, tiredness, hunger or a change that may be required on what we do with our lives.

Happiness Is Always In The Future
We are always saving, anticipating and building towards some future ‘happy’ moment, where we believe we will eat a bigger slice of life.
We keep looking forward, towards the future when we will complete our project, or go travel somewhere, or experience the next big moment we have been waiting for, missing the Present all the time.
The Present Moment
We never stop and consider that maybe this present moment could be the moment we were waiting for all along, and could be the most important moment in our lives, with us not being present towards it.
We always take the present moment for granted as our whole attention is always to attain something more at a later time. There needs to be appreciation for the present moment, which is all we have got, essentially.
How To Appreciate This Moment Part 1
As the present may be the most important moment of our lives, here are some ways we can appreciate them:
Stop and be aware of you and your surroundings, feeling grateful.
Refocus your attention from something in the future, towards right now.
Feel the wonder and brilliance of life, seeing this as your big moment.
Most of the time we are in a hurry or are rushing towards something, and need to realize that we can still gift ourselves our full attention and feel the moment of rush just by being aware and appreciating how your body feels in motion.
How To Appreciate This Moment Part 2
A mundane life can be seen as an opportunity to examine our ideals about life and practice letting them go, as they might be blinding us from the incredible richness of life that surrounds us.
If you can’t find something outside you, find your own curiosity and inner appreciation of yourself.
If there is pain or grief in your life, you can be present towards those feelings with love and kindness towards yourself to make this less-than-joyous moment the most important and powerful moment in your life, giving you courage, learning, growth and open heartedness.
How To Appreciate This Moment Part 3
If the present moment is filled with fear, worry and anxiety, observe the changing nature of reality and find ground in the apparent groundlessness of life and find comfort and peace. This will make you strong and steadfast.
You can appreciate your partner and see them as a manifestation of beauty and love, a creation of God with whom your time is limited and extremely precious.
How To Appreciate This Moment Part 4
We can always turn inward and feel the goodness of our heart.
We can appreciate nature, the Sun, the flowers, the sky and see how present they are in this very moment.
We can appreciate our body, our eyes and ears that provide us the ability to interact with the present moment of beauty and wonder.
We can appreciate our ability to breathe, even the ability to use our legs to walk this planet.
Experience thousands of such moments in the most loving way that you can, providing your full attention.
