Welcome to Season 2, Episode 20! We have had a few weeks on hiatus and are ready to talk about real SuperPowers!!!When it comes to being successful at anything in life, it is essential to know and use the powers we have within us. What does that really mean, I mean really? Am I right? That kinda sounds like something I got off the back off a Yogi tea bag label? I know when I hear “superpowers” I start thinking what I appreciate about my favorite DC and Marvel Comic, and then the more I think about it…I realize there is a common thread or characteristic that inspires or motivates me. Well, when it comes to anything from personal life, health, fitness, or your career, there is a lot of truth to this. This week we are speaking with Lifestyle Coach, Nutritionist, and Personal Trainer Phillip Butler about The Super Powers we all have within us, and what that means to him. I will let our guest this week tell you all about it. So get locked in and tune in with Coach Phillip as he breaks it all down for us! Welcome to Season 2, Episode 17! I like to think of training without a metabolic assessment a lot like trying to throw a dart at a bulls-eye from 10 ft away with a blindfold on. You have an idea of the approximate direction and location of where it needs to land. However, there is no guarantee as to if it will hit the mark, no matter how many times you try.
This week we are speaking with one of my favorite Coach’s and Metabolic Specialist Jonathan Fiser about what an AMA and RMA is precisely, how the science behind it works, and of course how it will help you hit the mark when comes to your health and fitness goals.

Welcome to Season 2, Episode 16! This week we are speaking with Mary Boland & Evelyn Spangler owners of Topeka Yoga Network about the benefits of Corporate Yoga and Yoga for all ages groups.
I am sure many of us are familiar with the whole of working all day…not the psychological stress we can go through. But also the physical stress we experience from sitting for 7 to 10 hours a day, 5 to 6 days a week. Believe it or not, yoga is done with the right teachers, can help with issues with back and neck pain or even tight hip flexors or problems with your piriformis.
How about the bigger picture of how Group Yoga can help build stronger relationships at work?.
I will let our guest this week tell you all about it. So get locked in and tune in with us as both Mary & Evelyn break it all down for us!

Welcome to Season 2, Episode 13! Regardless of who you are or how elite you are as an athlete. We all have one thing in common…Most of us most likely use some sort of tool during our workout or post workout. Our episode this week is all about fitness and recovery devices that are worth the investment.
Intra workout tools would be what you would use during your workout regimen. This includes something like a brace, sleeve, belt, band, gloves, monitors, straps, shoes, and etc.
Recovery tools would be used post workout; generally used to help repair the damage, eliminate inflammation, delayed onset muscle soreness, that is a result of the stress we put out muscles and body through during our workout. This could include lacrosse balls, foam rollers, therma guns, the hot tub, sauna, cryotherapy chamber, and etc.
Our guest this week Lifetime Fitness Lenexa’s Coach Adam Venegas and FIT MJC’s Doctor Aaron Holman not only have experience using fitness and recovery tools on the college football field or wrestling mat and also in their professional lives with clients and patients as part of their everyday hustle.
Instead of rambling on endlessly, I will let our guests this week tell you all about it. So get locked in and tune in with us Adam and Aaron break it all down for us! Welcome to Season 2, Episode 12! Ultra Running is a sport for athletes of a particular breed. Not for the reason that only certain people can do it, because if you ask our guest this week, he will tell you anyone is capable. I think it takes a butt load of perseverance and fortitude to complete a 100-mile race. It can test everything you are and believe not only about yourself but about the world. What is impressive about our Guest Coach Farhad Zarif (Coach Z) is he had not only did one last year, but he did 4 consecutively throughout the year. He not only battle with the mental perspective but also some injuries along the way.
I will let our guest this week tell you all about it. So get locked in and tune in with us as both Coach Z break it all down for us!

Welcome to Season 2, Episode 9! This week we are talking about one of my favorite things Sleep and how it lends to your recovery as a crucial ingredient to our fitness and health goals. Our Guests this week are Coaches Zach Bessett and Jonathan Fiser. I think one of the first times I spoke with Coach Zach last year was about quality of sleep and relationship to blue screens, which sparked this topic altogether. Coach Fiser has a lot of interest from the recovery bases and understanding how your heart variability can help tell the story around your training and recovery. Welcome to Season 2; Episode 6! This week we are speaking with FIT Muscle & Joint Clinic's Dr. Michael Allison. Also, we with us today Lifetime Fitness Lenexa's Coach Josh Hilger about Training while Injured (Listen Here!) Most of us have been injured at one time or another during our fitness adventures. Once it happens, we are faced with a decision “Run some dirt on it” and train through the or around the injury. For some, it may cause some anxiety around the thought of a possible surgery without even getting checked out by a Doctor or professional. The interesting thing is depending on the type of “hurt” you are experiencing one of those options might be the right one. However, you won’t know for sure unless you get the advice of a licensed professional. If the injury is something like a slipped or herniated disc and it is pressing on a nerve, without getting it looked at you could develop a much more serious issue like drop foot and more. I will let our guests this week tell you all about it. So to get locked in and tune in with us as both Dr. Michael and Josh and break it all down for us! Welcome to Season 2; Episode 5! This week we are speaking with Lifetime Fitness Lenexa's - Coach and Metabolic Wizard Jonathan Fiser about The Science of Breath!
Back at Episode one, we spoke with Yoga Instructor Elektra Hendrickson and Coach Josh Thomas about the Power of Breath, as a continuation off that we are talking with Jonathan about the different types of breath and what happens in your body from the brain, and even how the breath plays a part in where Fat goes. Bonus Information: Jonathan’s Notes!!!
Tell us a bit about yourself, your background, how you got where you are today?
Well, like most of us in the industry, I started playing sports at a very early age. Unfortunately, there is a high risk for injury in kids if they have coaches that are not well versed in injury prevention and proper exercise routines relative to the kid's age. Well anyway, I hurt my shoulder when I was around 12 years old. However, the tear was not large enough for the doctor to want to do surgery, so instead, he sent me to Physical Therapy. That is where everything changed and where I fell in love with fitness. My Physical Therapist was terrific, he not only healed and rehabbed my shoulder, but more importantly, he would always explain why we were doing what we were doing. This was the primary factor that drove me to go to school and study what I studied because I wanted to be able to do for others what he had done for me.
As a follow-up, we are touching on the science of breathing and
exercise with you Jonathan. When it comes to science, help us understand why it essential. (Maybe talk about breath mechanics)
As always, I like to start with defining certain things we are talking about. So, in terms of breathing, there are two specific types; sympathetic breathing (mouth breathing) and parasympathetic breathing (nose breathing). Sympathetic breathing is our fight or flight breathing, it is driven by stress and is a really great way to get in a lot of oxygen in fast, however, there are other mechanisms that are going on in the body at this same time that can hinder weight loss and fitness results if it goes on chronically. More so, we often autonomically shut off our lower lobes in our lungs when breathing sympathetically which means long term, it is not an effective way to move oxygen, and nutrients around the body.
*Parasympathetic breathing is more associated with nose breathing and regarding our nervous system, our rest and digest mechanic. Just think of this one as the one that is keeping you alive 99% of the time. Right now, while none of you are paying attention to your breathing, you can thank your parasympathetic system for that. Most of the time, this is the system we want to be using, again, both systems have their function, and like most things we need both, we just want to use them at th

Welcome to Season 2; Episode 4! This week we are speaking with Lifetime Fitness Lenexa's - Alpha Coach's, Personal Trainers, Nutritionist, Josh Thomas & Stormy White about Benefits of Group Fitness!
I am sure for some of us even the mention of "group fitness" either brings back flashbacks of leotards, leg warmers, and sweatbands while sweating it out with Suzanne Summers. Or even better Amy Schumer's big breakout film 2018 women empowerment and self-love flick "I Feel Pretty," where she falls off a bike in Soul Cycle and pretty much gives herself a concussion along with amazing self-confidence. Good Flick if you haven't seen it. The kind of group fitness classes on our roll call for this week is Lifetime's Alpha and GTX group classes. We will dive into the common misconceptions behind any group class along with what some of the remarkable benefits can be if you put your all into your workouts.
So get locked in and tune in with us as both Josh and Stormy and break it all down for us!

Welcome to Season 2; Episode 3! This week we are speaking with Lifetime Fitness Lenexa's Nutritionist, Lifestyle Coach, and Personal Trainer Britt Kersenbrock about Detox Plans! Do they really work? Better yet are they healthy or is it the preverbal snake oils promoted by celebrities? Interestingly enough just by eating a clean whole food diet rich in phytonutrients (which is the same as saying all colors of the rainbow when it comes to veggies and fruit), your body will already do the job with the help of your liver. How about if you (like me) are just rolling off a holiday binge of whiskey mules and Christmas cookies? Which also means btw the whole month of January, at a cellular level I was pretty much made up of raspberry thumbprint cookies and bourbon. Mostly because I fell off the clean eating wagon and let it back over me for three days of Christmas Vacation :-|. The big question is, can you correct course and repair the damage done? We step on the scale or start flexing in the mirror and...we get frustrated, and our motivation deflates like a big red balloon in the hands of an over-excited toddler... Is my scale working? We all have the things that make us lose motivation, and it happens to the best of us. Better yet, we need help figuring out how to stick with it until the results come. Tune and with our Guest this week Coach Britt Kersenbrock and I as we walk through some of the common reason's we end up quitting and some ideas on how we can stick with it or could tweak out plan. Welcome to Episode 17, This week we are speaking about the correlation between fitness and better health. It is easy to get caught in the rut, I know I have,! The rut of trying to achieve the aesthetic look or performance of a professional athlete or a social media fitness model. This week we will be discussing with Coach Nick Drake what attributes define optimal health, and how extremely fit doesn’t necessarily mean extremely healthy. Welcome to Episode 16, We are going to work on Understanding Intermittent Fasting. Intermittent Fasting that I have seen all over social media lately. You know the ones, with fitness models with there gleaming abs talking about how they only eat all of their needed macronutrients within a 5 to 6-hour period. They stop eating at 9 pm, and they do not eat until after lunch the next day after they have already gotten their workout in. There are also claims like eating anything they want…even the dirty stuff. But can they? Does it sound a little too good to be true? Do their performance and endurance suffer? How many different types of intermittent fasting is there? So many questions for our guest this week. She is one of the top nutritionists with Lifetime fitness, Coach Carol Anne Sutton. Coach Sutton's Contact Info:Carol's Email:csutton@lt.life Instagram: @carol_at_the_races twitter: carolattheraces Phone: 402-540-0436Podcast Contact:Email: theaudieinspiringathlete@gmail.comInstagram: @theaudieinspiringathleteFacebook: @theaudieinspiringathletepodcastTwitter: @AudinspiringAthPhone: 913-585-0265 Additional Show Notes: All right that is a wrap on Ep 16; Wow, so many takeaways here this week, I go with two. One is that if you do choose to try out an intermittent fast and you aren't struggling with any health concerns such as diabetes. Try the 18/6, which is fasting for 18 hours, and you eat in 6. With that said, don't do it more than one day a week and also, only as maybe once every couple of weeks practice and on a rest day. Number two, the amount of ways that fasting can go wrong especially for the women is astounding. So tread carefully, be aware of how a decision like trying intermittent fasting for an extended period time could affect you long term if it isn't done in a controlled environment. Also, you heard Carol, reach out, please! She is interested in hearing about the different experiences you may have had with intermittent fasting! Lastly make sure you tune in for next weeks episode which will be speaking with Coach Gail Hart, about pilates and breathing. I know many times pilates can be misconstrued as a practice much like yoga that isn't hard enough or even classified as stretching...How about the importance of breathing? Tune in next week to learn more! Thanks for your support and make sure if you like the podcast you subscribe to the feed!

Welcome to Episode 15, This week we are going to talk about what we should know before we go Keto! Also known as the Ketogenic Diet, is a very very low carb, a high-fat diet that has pretty much replaced the Atkins Diet. It is all the buzz across the internet, in the bookstores, and on the gym floor.Guess what; the Keto diet is not for everyone and if you are thinking about diving into the lifestyle...There are some things that our Guests this week want you to be aware of before proceeding with such an extreme change in what you eat.Coach Butler Contact Info:Phillip's Email:pbutler2@lt.lifeInstagram: @revellious.kingiiiCoach Fiser Contact Info:Jonathan's Email:jfiser@lt.lifePodcast Contact:Email: theaudieinspiringathlete@gmail.comInstagram: @theaudieinspiringathleteFacebook: @theaudieinspiringathletepodcastTwitter: @AudinspiringAthPhone: 913-585-0265 Additional Show Notes:All right that is a wrap on Ep 15; My takeaways this week, I thought it was interesting what Jonathan and Phillip had to say about how the Keto Diet is not sustainable. So even though some of the publications we see out there elude to that mind frame, it is not good on your body, or for the lady’s; with our hormones to be on high fat, very low carb diet for an extended period. Also, the supplement side of things…while cheating the system might work for a little while, again not a good long-term solution. Be smart about what you put in your body. If man scientifically made it and there is no reason you should be taking it medically speaking. Don’t use it or abuse it by putting it in your body, because all that junk has to go somewhere. If you guys have takeaways, you would like to share; please feel free to hit us up on our social media, the details are in the show notes.Anyhow make sure you tune in next week to Episode 16: we will be speaking with Coach Carrol Ann Sutton about Intermittent Fasting. Another trending dietary and nutrition topic that has been all over the place lately. I know some people that use it, and they have had success. Be sure to listen in on, July 25th to Hear more. Thanks!

Welcome to Episode 14, This week we are following up on the Topic of Periodization. We took a slightly different approach this week and free-styled the interview. Meaning I didn’t send our guest Coach Drake the questions in advance. So he was purely answering based off his research and understanding, experience, and training of the topic. I found an interesting list on verywellfit.com; published last month. It gave the top ten reasons why people quit working out. I found the idea that # two on that list seemed to ring true in my opinion because it basically eluded to 2nd reason why people quit is due to not having a sustainable plan with goals. So that could be due to lack of planning, not knowing what to do, or how to taper and peak our program for progress… Lifetime Fitness Lenexa’s Coach Nick will help us understand what Periodization is, hwo it can help us, and where to start. Coach Drake's Contact Info: Julia Email:ndrake@lt.life Instagram: @nickdrake32 Podcast Contact: Email: theaudieinspiringathlete@gmail.com Instagram: @theaudieinspiringathlete Facebook: @theaudieinspiringathletepodcast Twitter: @AudinspiringAth Phone: 913-585-0265 Additional Show Notes: All right that is a wrap on Ep 14; My take-aways this week, I like what coach Nick had to say about how Periodization is like seasons, your training is broken up in to three parts as a part of those season. Overall, you have a spring where you are building up to the peak, which would be like the summer, and a Fall/Winter where you taper back down. I think this in interesting because I know I didn’t have that perspective in my early programming before I started working with Coach Adam. Also, I think it is important to incorporate testing. This is important because it can determine effectiveness and progress, much like what you might see in CrossFit and Alpha. This is done to help determine if there is tweaking needed along the way. Also, it can help keep you motivated and your eyes on the goal. If you guys have takeaways you would like to share feel free to hit us up on our social media, the details are in the show notes. Anyhow make sure you tune in next week to Episode 15: we will be speaking with Coach Phillip Butler and Jonathan Fiser about what we need to know before going Keto. The Ketogenic Diet in case you have seen it on social media or heard about it from your lifting friend…is a high fat, very low carb diet is a trending in the health in fitness community. There are some things you’ll want to be aware of before taking it on…So be sure to tune in next Wednesday, June 18th to hear more.

Welcome to Episode 13, This week we will be talking about Proprioception. You wake up in the middle of the night with the nagging sensation to get a drink of water or go to the bathroom. As you lay in bed contemplating if the disturbance is worth the effort. You ultimately decide to follow the advice you give your own kids. So you will yourself out of the comfort and warmth of your bed and your feet meet the cold wooden surface of the floor sooner than you expect. When you groggily open eyes open, you are greeted with a pitch black bedroom, so much so you can’t see your own hand in front of your face. What do you do? Turn on the light and risk waking your mate or venture blindly through the pitch black with your arms extended in front of you like a zombie? Wearily shuffling towards the bathroom door avioding dog toys and whatever else? What if I told you that proprioception comes into play in this situation and in your every day, especially in the gym. Our guests this week, Lifetime Fitness Lenexa’s, Coach’s Drew Wiens, Drew will fill us in on breakdown what proprioception is, how it differs from Kinesthesia, how you can train to improve and do some myth busting. Coach Drew's Contact Info: Julia Email:dweins@lt.life Instagram: @woo_diens Podcast Contact: Email: theaudieinspiringathlete@gmail.com Instagram: @theaudieinspiringathlete Facebook: @theaudieinspiringathletepodcast Twitter: @AudinspiringAth Phone: 913-585-0265 Additional Show Notes: All right that is a wrap on Ep 13! My takeaway this week, I never realized how a small decision, likes deciding to keep the lights off, in the scenario in the beginning and blindly making your way to the bathroom was employing an automatic function like putting one foot in front of the other. I think it is pretty cool how you can train your body’s receptors like other aspects to improve and how it can translate into the training in the gym…like when doing an Olympic lift like the snatch. The body’s awareness of the position and movement of the body sounds so simple and is an easy way to describe what it is. I like some of the practice ideas Drew gave us to try out like in Yoga. In fact, I tried it this last Saturday while in Roots Yoga, one of the practices I am working in one of the two active rest days. I have to say, it is hard to do, I tried it for about half of the class. It is amazing how you become hyperaware if you think about what muscles you, instead of what I need to get from the store flowing class, how much more I got out of it. I challenge our listeners to try it and see what happens. If you want to reach our coaches can be contacted via IG or Facebook and thru their email address Anyhow make sure you tune in next week to Episode 14: We will be diving deeper into Periodization with Coach Nick Drake… Something Drake is pretty passionate about. Make sure you give it a listen, that will drop on July 11th

Welcome to Episode 11, this week we will be talking about Female Athletes & High Heel Hazards . I really enjoyed this one for so many reasons, but I will share a few and let you decide the rest for yourself. One reason is, the topic came out of the blue in a conversation with a friend and one of the co-owners of F.I.T. Muscle and Joint Clinic Dr. Matthew Lane…We were spitballing ideas what we could talk about and who would be a good advocate for the topic…and Dr. Julia Morgan came to mind. That takes me to my second reason; we totally found our stride after chatting via text and meeting for the first time when we did the interview... So needless to say, Julia is amazing and passionate about our topic this week. In my research on the topic of women athletes, there were a few outlier topics…one had to do with the likelihood of women vs. man becoming injured in the same sort of sports as men. Some of the science says that due to some the differences in females such as biomechanical alignment or ligamentous laxity that injuries such as ACL tears are more predominate…Try to say that last one 5 times fast…Also, don’t worry we will get to what that is in the interview. Dr. Morgan's Contact: Julia Email: Drmorgan@fitmjc.com Instagram: @fitmjc Podcast Contact: Email: theaudieinspiringathlete@gmail.com Instagram: @theaudieinspiringathlete Facebook: @theaudieinspiringathletepodcast Twitter: @AudinspiringAth Phone: 913-585-0265 Additional Show Notes: All right that is a wrap on Ep 12, My take-aways, women or man…the injuries seem to have the same likelihood, based off what Dr. Morgan is seeing. I’d like to attribute it to the gap closing tighter in females vs. males regarding types of sports played and the opportunities to push ourselves...Which led us both down a little rabbit hole, and a topic we will touch more on in a future podcast. Regarding women eating disorders and nutrition, I strongly hope that this gap that is closing between the sports creates a more visible ripple in the pool of standards we as females set for ourselves regarding what beautiful is…and ourselves. I could go on all day on this; however, I will leave you with this final thought. We were all made with the intent to be different in our own way, we as ladies should work on feeling confident and comfortable in our own skin. Depriving yourself of nourishing food and overworking yourself to look like the latest Instagram fitness model, is corrosive in a way that can lead to nothing other than heartache, anxiety, an obsessive path that will lead you to poor health such as issues with bone density later on in life. So big takeaway there...Like anything, It doesn’t just affect you at that moment, it builds on itself, and you will pay for those habits and decisions later on in life.

Welcome to Episode 11, and this week we are talking about Optimal Recovery. I think many times when we look at the successful athletes. We tend to focus on how hard the hustle and what kinds of lifts or conditioning work they are doing. I believe with the elite athletes in the fitness community, both the watchers and the doers have glamorized what getting fit means. It is important to point out that the common thread of a dedicated mentality. Nothing wrong with it, in fact dedication to your plan is important. I do feel when you mix it all together, it has/can create a menatlitity that we must be in the gym pushing yourself to extremes seven days a week, otherwise we will miss the gain train. I think it is important to point out while most of us aren’t professional athletes, we commonely overlook what those athletes we aspire to be like do as well as what we should be doing with our recovery plans. Our guests this week, which I like to call Lifetime Fitness Lenexa’s fitwizards, Coach’s Nick Briney and Jonathan Fiser will fill us in on what optimal recovery (or active rest days) looks like, why it is important, do some myth-busting, and give us some things we take home and try. Additional Show Notes: All right that is a wrap on Ep 11, I gotta say for someone who used to be the 7 days a week athlete, I loved this one. My take-aways, when we are talking about optimizing our recovery, what we are really talking about optimizing our overall routine. It doesn’t necessarily mean skipping your workouts. Our Coach’s this week, and (Nick Drake also mentioned this on the adrenal fatigue episode) talked about what that might look like. So maybe it is walking your dog, tossing the frisbee around, swimming laps, riding bikes with your kids. I also found the study that Jonathan brought up of doing a short rounds of HIIT as intriguing. I’d like to try it out…even if I despise running. Big picture, recovery includes much more than what happens with your workouts, such as a nutritionally dense diet, hydration, and sleep. Finally, good coach’s or programsa are built with under overarching periodization umbrella. They should include active recovery. Not every workout should or will be intended to break you. If you want to reach our coaches can be contacted via IG or Facebook and thru their email address Nick Briney: nbriney@lt.life Jonathan Fiser: jfiser@lt.life Anyhow make sure you tune in next week to Episode 12: we will be talking about Female athletes and high heel hazards with FIT Muscle and joint Clinic’s Dr. Julia Morgan. She is going to touch on the some of the common injuries seen in female athletes, contributing factors, and the hazards of fashionable heels and more. Make sure you give it a listen, that will drop on June 27th.

Hey Listeners! Welcome to Episode 10, Is Functional Fitness Just a buzz Word? I am sure we have all heard it, a Crossfit bug, in fact, may have made it super cool. Either way, this week Lifetime Fitness Lenexa's Adam Venegas and Thomas Nay are going to fill us in on what it is and is not, why it is important and do some myth busting. If you have a question or feedback, or just want to stump the coach Hit us up on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or you can reach us at our Google voicemail #913-585-0265 or shoot us an email at theaudieinspringathlete@gmail.com If you want to contact the Coach's on today's episode or want to schedule something with the Lifetime Coach's they can be reached via IG or Facebook and thru their email address Also a FYI Thomas has some spots if you would like to work on your functional fitness or need some guidance with your routine reach out. Adam Venegas: avenegas@lt.life Thomas Nay: tnay@lt.life Additional Episode Notes: My Take away this week, functional fitness does not mean bench pressing your body weight x 2. It means you are standing on two feet supporting your own weight when you lift anything. Functional can involve exercises that can employ the use of multiple muscle groups, like a pull-up or an inverted row…So in that scenario, you are locking the scaps down and engaging your core and stabilizer muscle groups. Also, functional fitness can mean you are learning to control your body weight by doing single limb exercises like pistol squats as Thomas said, those simple movements are about working towards control, balance, total muscle integration, whole working on correcting any isolated weaknesses that can cause an issue with your functional movement. Also, if you don’t address the integration issue, strong muscles will get stronger, and the weak ones will not improve, which can affect your form, and possibly lead to an injury. Lastly, functional fitness is harder, but in my opinion much more rewarding, not in an I opened the pickle jar or carried 250 lbs of groceries in one go kind of way. More regarding being able to move and feel more grounded in whatever I am doing. I know long term the payoff will be that when I’m 90 as long as I keep it up, I will be less likely to fall over and break a hip because I am more stable due to the total muscle integration.

Welcome to Episode 7 - Part 3: Our First of the Athletes Series featuring a 100 lbs weightloss success story This week Our Guests are Lifetime Fitness Member Anita Ranhotra, she’s one of those number-crunching industrial engineers that love math and statistics. I have known of Anita probably about as long as I have been a member of LT but really didn’t get to know her really well till this year. I would catch a glimpse of her every now and then over the years, give her the head nod and keep to my own. Over that time I gained a ton of respected her because she was the one hustling harder and longer than anyone else on the floor. I think. Anita is going to tell us about her journey, one for me that stems from inspiration, genuine grit, and a form of bravery that helps to shatter the illusion of what it takes to not only take on but own a challenge as she did of achieving a 100lb weight loss. All Along, fighting the common misconceptions of what struggling with weight and health issues with her coach there as support. Our second guest is a returner, college baseball Athlete, NASM certified PT Coach, and the one and only metabolic specialist at Lifetime fitness Lenexa Jonathan Fiser.

Welcome to Episode 6 Part 3: This week’s topic is Mobility - How to Implement & Maximize Your Routine. UPDATE: First though, I want to let you guys know that this week we had lots of useful content from our guest, 2 hours’ worth. After receiving feedback from our listeners and guests. We decided to break this one up into parts, to make it easier to digest. On average most people usually have a 30 to 60 min each day to listen in. We want to make sure we support our listener and guests needs. Lastly, before we get to the good stuff. I wanted to share something about feedback. I've had always thought that a real leader finds a way to invest in the betterment of others. One way they can do such a thing and show fearlessness is by taking the time to share timely and constructive feedback with those around. The reasoning is in an effort to help those around them grow and become better and stronger, regardless of where they stand. There is also a fearlessness in the ability to receive feedback and use it as a mechanism for growth and betterment, not as a weapon of retaliation or a crutch. For those of you that passed that feedback along, I want to say thank-you for being excellent examples of leadership and helping us get better and provide useful content. This week Our Guests are Lifetime Fitness Lenexa’s Alpha Coach and College Athlete Nick Briney. Nick brings with him a B.S. in Kinesiology, plus he is NASM certified in CPT, CES (Corrective), and PES (Performance). Nick is also an ISSA Nutrition Coach, FRC Mobility Specialist, a USA Certified Weightlifting Coach and is also working towards his Peak Pilates Instructor certification. Our second Guest is a co-owner of F.I.T. Muscle and Joint Clinic, Dr. Matthew Lane. Matt also has his NASM certification in PES and CES. Moreover, he holds a MS and BC. Plus has his DC in Chiropractic and practices in physical and rehabilitation medicine. They are going to help me demystify mobility, how to implement it into your routine and every day. Plus, we will quiz the guys on some myths, the medical perspective, and benefits…Matt even gets me with a zinger on the test the host. Mobility is one of those things I used to roll my eyes at and classify as “stretching,” and like most weight slinging gym goers, I used to skip it entirely. In fact, it wasn’t until a few years ago that this old powerlifting competitor realized the competing in pl sports had more to do with brute strength. Also, I could count the number of times, on the one hand, the year I decided to compete that I’d become injured, mainly in the lower back area from trying to pull or push heavy weight with improper form, amongst many other issues. It wasn’t until about a year later that my focus shifted from developing more strength and power in my lifts to an entirely different world of fitness. This was when one of the most badass & smart strengths and conditioning coach sauntered into my life. We spent maybe a solid 6 to 8 months fixing my bad habits and working on the basics which included, stability, mobility, and skill work before the big guy ever let me pick up a bar and doing the Olympic lifts. Let me be clear, we had to start from the beginning because I was that bad. I am sure you guys are thinking what does this have to do with mobility Audrey, get to the point? I wanted to give you a picture of where I started because I believe today, there are a lot of people that were like the 2015 version of me. In fact, I know it…because I see it every day in the gym. This is something that for me, along with my coach’s help became one of the differentiating factors in being able to execute the Oly lifts, and just and functioning better doing daily activities outside of the gym. Check it out, you may learn a thing or too! I know I did!

Welcome to the Audie Inspiring Athlete podcast! A podcast for any level of athlete at any age! We discuss everything fitness & nutrition with dependable professionals in the industry every week. From the not well known to whatever is trending in social media
I am your host Audrey Wilson, aka the Audie inspiring. I’m a Midwestern, full time hustling, middle age momma of two.
My caveat; I am not a fitness expert, nor do I work in the industry.
I have however been on the typical fitness journey of ups and downs with a few not so common been health scares sprinkled in. When started, I was 265 lbs, and eight years later, I’m down to 176lb. Over the last year and a half, I have had a lot of success with some help, coaching, and the support of a community. Doing things I’d never thought I’d ever been able to do...and I hope as a pretty standard athlete in school, nothing too special.
Anyhow is podcast is my way of giving back to those who have invested so much in my success and those who might be lost by educating, and of course, inspiring.

Episode 4 - Part 2: Extreme Athletes - Training and Mind Over Matter, We had to break it up into two parts...We are picking up where we left off with Coach Z as he talks about his 100 mile ultra running at night, cold, tired...and pushing through. Also we will discuss with both Coach's what’s next for them, and what they would be doing if they weren't competing in their sports. They of course will continue with the discussion around nutrition and training, and do some myth busting...plus give me a really hard time. Which I deserve about half the time ;) With an Endurance athlete, my opinion is that they would be near the top of what I think is elite for athletes…especially the guys we are speaking with today, they keep going back for more. Not necessarily for the love of the sport, but for something much deeper with more meaning. Our guest today will talk about their first and last races, how they train, eat, and what they focus on even when they are not competing head to head with some of the toughest and most talented athletes out there. Show Notes: For those of you that are wondering what Chris I was talking about in this part of the episode, it was Chris Kidwaski, author of the Back Bible and Body Hacking.
