In the shadow of the Kavanaugh Supreme Court nomination hearings, we discuss how far back we should be held responsible for the sins of our youth. We discuss a firing of a high school Spanish teacher who had posed for Playboy when she was 19 years old. We also discuss other real, past scenarios involving members of the panel. We review the HR implications and some of the relevant laws. We also talk about the contradictory nature of the cultural environment of permissiveness and zero-tolerance for mistakes. We conclude by examining how Catholic parents can help their children maneuver these complicated times, especially in light of the impact of social media.

I am joined by my friend Mark Connolly as we discuss the latest Church scandals and how we, the laity, should respond.
In this episode we share a clip from a longer discussion we had at Joe Catholic on August 18th. We had intended to provide audio of the entire workshop, but some of the audio is poor and needs to be cleaned up before we can publish. We had intended to only discuss what the differences were in dogma, doctrine and discipline, but the discussion turned to the leadership style of Pope Francis. In light of recent events, I think that discussion is relevant and may help some of us work through the difficult times we are in and what is still to come.

On August 2nd, Pope Francis made a revision to paragraph 2267 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The paragraph deals with the death penalty. The following is talk we presented at Joe Catholic workshop the following Saturday. During the talk, we focused on the original text, the 1997 text and the newest revision. We also discusses how doctrine can develop. We had a robust group discussion afterwards, but a few of the members did not want to be recorded. We hope to revisit the topic in an upcoming episode to discuss the implications, if any, of the process taken to change the CCC.
In light of Pope Francis announcing a change to the Catechism (paragraph 2267), we have opted to share a Joe Catholic talk on the origin of the Catechism. Soon we will also release a discussion on the particular change.
