2016 was a big year for Tina Muir. In March she fulfilled a lifelong dream of representing Great Britain in the Half Marathon World Championships. A few weeks later in April she ran the London Marathon in 2:37 which was a PR at the time. She then finished out 2016 with the California International Marathon in December, where she finished fifth overall and lowered her personal best to 2:36.
In February Tina shocked the running world by announcing her decision to step down from competitive running. However 2017 and 2018 are shaping up to be very special years for her.

Welcome to the show Andy Aubin,Therese Schweyer,William Baez from The Sub 30 Club.
The Sub 30 Club was originally started in April of 2012 when Ted Spiker, contributor to Runner’s World and the man behind The Big Guy Blog on runnersworld.com, set out on a quest to break 30 min in a 5K. This represented a “challenging but doable” goal for him at the time, being a middle- to back- of–the-pack runner. He put the word out through his blog to see if anybody else might want to join him in his efforts. He was expecting five or six people…a dozen at best. Within the first day he had over 100 responses. As of Today, there are over 5,700 members and the focus of the club has shifted from the specific goal of a 29:59 5K to the spirit that started the club, embracing runners of all levels chasing every goal imaginable. There are members who are brand new to running and those who are chasing goals in races of all distances. We have Boston qualifiers, ironman triathletes, and ultra-runners. The club truly welcomes all runners.

Coree Woltering is a professional trail/ultra runner for inov-8 and Down To Run. He enjoys racing any distance on any surface.
2016 was a breakout year for Coree, running personal records from 5k to 50 miles. With the biggest highlight of 2016 running 5:30:15 for 50 miles at Tunnel Hill. It ended up being the second fastest 50-mile time in North America for the year.
Coree wasn’t always a distance runner. He ran track in his school days and flirted with triathlons for a few years but after discovering trails and ultra running he has found his passion.
When Coree is not not running, He enjoys beer/wine tasting, coaching, cooking, reading and eating ice cream.
However his greatest achievement to date just might be having the privilege to coach Crystal and Stephen :)

We got to meet Denise (aka tinydbo) at Run Under The Stars . She was a machine and won the women’s race and set a new course record with 66 miles in 10 hours. And by the way she did this only 2 weeks after winning The North Face Endurance Challenge 80K in Costa Rica. Her love for trails and the ultra distances began in 2008. This passion has given Denise both athletic and interpersonal growth. Ultra Running has touched her mind, body and spirit in the unique way that only Ultra Running can do. Combining her love for travel and the trails, Denise feels fortunate to continue to enjoy racing competitively at the age of 47 and is looking forward to many more years of adventuring through racing and running. STOP WEARING THOSE NARROW TOE BOX SHOES AND SPREAD YOUR TOES! Legendary ultra runner, race director and overall bad ass Mr. Steve Durbin joins Stephen on the show. Durbin Race Management puts on some of the most unique and challenging races to be had. From the “Baby Barkley” 50K that gives you a taste of the Barkley Marathons to the super fast Tunnel Hill 50/100 and many other amazing running adventures. We dive into what got Steve into this crazy addiction we all love and how he hasn’t let back surgery stop him from enjoying the lifestyle. Stephen admits he asked Mr. Durbin on the show for selfish reasons as he plans on making the Tunnel Hill 50/100 his first 100 miler in 2017 and was looking for some tips and history of the race. We find out about several records that have been set at The Tunnel Hill including Coree Woltering’s blazing fast 50 mile record this year. You can hear about Coree’s exciting run over at The Negative Splits Podcast EP19. Mr. Durbin shares some valuable tips on running long distance such as fueling correctly, he recommends real food and Sword Energy Drink to keep the stomach in check. Most importantly though is your mental state, do you want to hurt for a little bit and achieve something amazing or quit and regret it for life? I cannot overstate how much I enjoyed talking with Mr. Durbin and hopefully will be having him back on with another very special guest in the near future for a good old fashioned running B.S. session. Andy plays race director of the Rallye66 Ranger Run and talks about the hard work and rewards of directing a race. As it turns out, you should fear the crossfitter in a multiple event competition. Are there too many races? How oversaturation might be affecting the running community. The boys have a full race schedule for the remainder of the year. With Andy running The Bass Pro Conservation Marathon on November 6, 2016 and You Don’t Know Jack 75K on December 3, 2016. Stephen is running The Skippo Trail Run 20K on November 6, 2016. The White River Marathon on November 19, 2016 and will meet Andy to run the You Don’t Know Jack 75K. Both of them are considering ending the year with The Run For The Ranch marathon or 6 hour endurance on December 31, 2016. Stephen talks about a great race review site that he uses called BibRave where you can review your races for others to read about and check on races you are considering running. Paul Staudigel from Inov-8 calls in to talk about the difference between normal running pain and injury pain. Be careful making toast. In the gear review segment Andy gives an update on the Inov-8 Road Claw 275’s and Stephen updates us on the Inov-8 Trail Talon 275’s. As well, both Stephen and Andy give their initial thoughts on the Orange Mud HydraQuiver Vest Pack 2. Both of the guys are having some training issues. Andy is finding it difficult to find the time to train properly and Stephen has been skimping on his strength training and as a result is suffering from a minor injury.

Welcome Eric Johnson the owner of Fleet Feet Springfield, a specialty running store in Springfield Missouri. We learn a little about Eric, and a ton about the day to day operation of a running store. Why Eric purchased the business. How the staff is trained to put the customer in the correct shoe. How products are selected to go on the shelves, the importance of a well fitting bra and much, much more. Stephen talks about the Hawk Marathon on the Race Recap. Things didn’t go well with the weather, but runners and race directors overcame obstacles to make it happen. Stephen even overcame his not-so advisable pre-race meal. You’ll have to listen to get the details about that and his Heartland Running score for the race. In the Gear Review Andy discusses the Inov-8 RoadClaw 275, Stephen compares the Inov-8 Trail Talon 275 to the Niki Tera Kiger 3, he is foaming at the mouth to get a hold of the Inov-8 Rocklite 305 when they are released. and Eric reviews the Hoka Challenger ATR 2 that he bought right before the Pikes Peak Marathon. Wrapping up this busy episode with the Runners Route Report, Eric describes a run at Wilson’s Creek, and Andy reports on the massive Katy Trail that he failed to complete. Thanks to Eric Johnson for co-hosting and check out his stores website at fleetfeetspringfield.com

Stephen and Andy welcome Paul Staudigel from www.inov-8.com to co-host this episode. Inov-8 is a running shoe and gear manufacturer based out of Europe. The trio talk about the company, trail running, and the difference between European fell running and American trail running. The challenges of trying to break into the heartland market. And of course, they geek out about shoes! They explore the models and features of the Inov-8 shoe line. In the runners route segment Paul talks about some of his favorite trails in Ohio such as the Mount Airy Trail where he will be running a 50K this October.

Stephen and Andy are back at it again. In this episode Stephen discusses his new Inov-8 Ultra 5 hydration vest and gives his first impression. More to come on this vest as Stephen puts it to the test at the upcoming Hawk Trail Marathon in Kansas. Andy fails miserably at dirt-bagging, but wins big with a new half marathon PR at the Nebraska State Fair Marathon. Andy gives a race recap and does an in depth race review on this second year Midwestern race. Is it worth traveling too? Is it as flat as advertised? These questions and more are answered. The random subject generator selects a topic that creates a controversial topic to discuss. Stephen and Andy dig deep to get to the “meat” of the topic. To close the show Stephen gives the Runners Route Report and upcoming show topics are discussed.
