Most treatment in dentistry is done by GDPs. Some treatments can be complex and standards need to be high. Collecting data from these settings, interpreting it and recommending treatment that works in practice is extremely valuable.

This is the story of a member of Dental Protection who was sued by a patient who had received NHS treatment carried out by associates at his former practice. This member had never treated the patient but the claimant, via their solicitors, refused to engage and continued to pursue the practice owner under both vicarious liability and non-delegable duty of care.

Clinical decision making is an integral component of all healthcare – and dentistry is no exception.
