In this episode, Jayce and James sit down to talk about people coming into the Church, suffering, disc golf, sports, community, friendship, Pokémon prayer, a desire for beauty and more. Casual.

They don’t ignore the hard parts. Alongside conversion stories, they wrestle with how pain can become the place where mercy breaks through and community becomes essential. If you’re praying for someone to return to faith, we offer grounded counsel: be bold, invite again, offer to go with them, stay patient, and let God do what only God can do.

Who is one person you could invite and walk with this week?

What would change if we built a rule of life that actually fit our days and led us to Jesus? Join Jayce and James as they discuss what this could look like.

We unpack “rule” as a trellis, not a cage—simple anchors that help prayer, work, family, and rest breathe. New Year energy is helpful, but the real move is choosing one priority and letting everything else take its proper place. That’s where fasting and asceticism come in. From Exodus 90’s cold showers and media fasts to the Daniel Fast’s clarity, we share the honest early struggle—headaches, hunger, fidgety evenings—and the surprising fruits: easier yeses to our kids, a renewed desire for the nightly examen, and a heart that listens without forcing.

Along the way, Jeff Cavins’ challenge hits home: if you have “priorities,” you don’t have a priority. Spouses and children matter immensely, yet the center cannot hold unless we order our lives to the will of the Lord. We explore how daily Mass becomes a fixed star, why saying no creates real freedom, and how fasting sharpens spiritual hearing.

In this episode, Jayce and James continue exploring the FACT framework, trade birthday stories, garage rock tumblers, and sports mishaps before turning to the heart of FACT: why teachability might be the hardest and most vital trait for disciples and teams. We map the D1–D4 learning journey, name wounds and pride, and offer simple steps to receive correction with humility, curiosity, and courage.

• Family rhythms that make celebrations work
• Why teachability matters more as you get better
• D1–D4 model for competence and confidence
• How wounds distort feedback and trust
• Pause, curiosity, and naming emotions
• Detachment from outcomes and secure identity
• Team health when feedback is safe and direct
• Discipleship as lifelong apprenticeship to Jesus
• Two challenges: find a mentor, pray through past correction
• FACT audit for honest self-review

In this episode, Jayce and James explore how the FACT framework (Faithful, Available, Contagious, Teachable) serves as both a barometer for disciple readiness and a personal examination tool for those leading others toward Christ.

Have you ever wondered what truly makes someone ready to be a disciple-maker? This episode dives deep into the first half of the powerful FACT framework – Faithful and Available – that serves as both a barometer for discipleship readiness and a personal examination tool for spiritual growth.

• Faithfulness includes alignment with Church teaching, honest acknowledgment of struggles, and consistent striving toward holiness
• Being faithful requires humility and obedience rather than elevating personal opinions above Church teaching
• True availability doesn't mean an empty calendar but rather a heart oriented toward what truly matters
• Availability means being present in the moment, putting down phones, and prioritizing prayer despite competing demands
• Our availability or lack thereof reveals "who we are bowing to" - what we truly worship
• A "schedule conversion" may be necessary if we're too busy for prayer and silence
• Seeking counsel from trusted friends provides essential perspective on our blind spots
• Making even small adjustments can significantly align our lives more closely with Christ's call

In this episode, Jayce and James share real stories of bringing people into the Church with a question, like an agnostic who came for the music and said yes to OCIA after a gentle ask; a seeker who loves liturgy but hesitates because of family wounds; a friend wrestling with the Eucharist and the early Church.

Along the way, they name what’s working—and why. Reverent worship that lets people pray without a sales pitch. Access to thoughtful sources like the Didache, the catechism, and the Church Fathers. A culture where the Holy Spirit leads and we follow with patience, courage, and love. Instead of trying to “win,” we learn to keep the door open, ask honest questions, and offer timely invitations.

If you’ve ever wondered how to walk with someone who’s curious but cautious, this episode offers a field guide. They also cover thresholds of conversion, practical tools like a simple “pick five” intercessory list, and how to speak without jargon so friends actually hear the good news.

Lastly, they talk about when to be bold, when to be quiet, and how prayer reshapes hard conversations. The result is a hopeful picture of evangelization grounded in beauty, truth and real friendship.

In this episode, Jayce and James sit down with Chris Scaperlanda, a father, attorney and friend, to wrestle with Ross Douthat's New York Times article, "An Age of Extinction is Coming. Here's How to Survive," all about how technology dulls desire, rewires dating, and thins out community, then offer concrete ways to choose presence, prayer, and embodied friendship. They strive to offer a grounded, hopeful take on resisting the virtual treadmill and building a human life that lasts.

• why distraction deadens desire for God and others
• tech as bottleneck replacing real practices with simulations
• dating apps, risk, rejection, and thin relationships
• McLuhan, Pascal, and the medium shaping attention
• junk food analogy for addictive digital design
• practical resistance: books, sports, gardens, live music
• parenting guardrails and tech-free formation
• community as inhale and exhale, parish at the center
• prayer off the phone, rhythms that restore attention
• ending with “choose life” as a daily practice

In this episode, Jayce and James are joined by Josh Paiement to discuss authentic community from its theological roots to practical application in our parishes and ministries. Building real community means moving beyond surface-level gatherings to sharing our authentic selves with one another.

• Community finds its origin in the Trinity as the original communion of persons
• The root word "communio" combines "with/together" and "gift/service" – pointing to communion as mutual contribution
• Authentic community goes deeper than social activities to real relationship and vulnerability
• Josh shares his step-by-step approach: meet individuals, befriend them, introduce to others, help them integrate
• Taking off our "masks" and being vulnerable is essential but challenging for community building
• A major pitfall is the "hot tub mentality" where communities become comfortable but closed and sterile
• True community naturally leads to mission – without outward focus, communities stagnate
• We need both "breathing in" (receiving formation) and "breathing out" (mission) for healthy community
• Personal invitations and investments matter more than large events or programs

We invite you to reflect on your own approach to community. Are you keeping people at a surface level, or allowing yourself to be truly known? Consider one relationship you could deepen this week by taking a small step toward greater vulnerability.

In this episode, Jayce and James are joined by author and speaker Carrie Gress to share her powerful testimony and discuss faith, family and feminism.

Imagine if someone told you that the framework of dignity and equality you've been taught to champion might actually be undermining the very foundations of your faith. In this thought-provoking conversation with author and speaker Carrie Gress, Jayce and James explore the profound tension between feminism and Catholicism that many modern women feel, but struggle to articulate.

Through personal stories of evangelizing her own family and navigating the transition from career focus to motherhood, Carrie offers practical wisdom for those trying to live authentic Catholic womanhood in a culture that misunderstands it. She reminds us that evangelization succeeds not through winning arguments but through loving people exactly where they are—a lesson she learned through her own failures.

• Carrie's journey from secular Oregon to Catholic faith following her father's death
• The challenge of transitioning from individual spirituality to motherhood and finding new ways to pray
• How feminism promotes autonomy as an idol while Christianity celebrates relationship and vulnerability
• The "shadow church" of feminism with its own theological virtues of envy, contempt, and rage
• Why evangelization succeeds through loving people where they are, not through intellectual arguments
• The importance of magnanimity for men and rejecting the "fear of discomfort" that enables dysfunction
• How Our Lady provides the perfect model of authentic womanhood through humility and surrender
• God's providence in preparing Carrie for her mission despite opposition

Find more from Carrie at carriegress.com or visit theologyofhome.com for her blog with daily content offering an alternative to the feminist narrative.

During this episode, Jayce and James are back! Join as they dive into powerful stories of discipleship and mission through the lens of recent guest interviews, exploring the transformative moments that shape authentic Christian witness and community building.

• Bold leadership decisions make space for the lost, as demonstrated by a youth minister who chose struggling teens over volunteer convenience
• Creating time and space for authentic response to the gospel is crucial, particularly in retreat settings where distractions are minimized
• Having five invested, faith-filled adults in a young person's life significantly increases the likelihood of maintaining faith beyond high school
• The "art of Christian living" forms the foundation of effective missionary work, focusing on internal growth that fuels external ministry
• Ordinary settings like sports teams and family gatherings provide opportunities to model virtues over outcomes
• Observant, intentional relationships create openings for divine encounters, as seen in Weston's six-hour breakfast with Jared
• Boldly extending invitations beyond comfort zones often results in unexpected growth and mission opportunities
• True discipleship requires scandalous amounts of time and investment that may seem counterproductive but yield profound fruit

Jayce also announces that he's leaving the archdiocese for a new position and we wish him all the best!

Jayce and Alex sit down with their former pastor, Father Jim Goins. Father Goins is currently pastor of Saint Eugene Catholic Church in Oklahoma City.

Have you ever found yourself reminiscing over college hijinks, then moments later pondering the profound life lessons they taught you? That’s exactly the adventure we embark upon with Father Jim Goins, whose stories golf courses, puppies and pulpit pranks lead into pondering the questions: what role does vision play in leadership? Do you have to be a visionary to be a leader? How do you know if your vision is something even worth pursuing?

Listen for all that, and more!

Father John Riccardo, from ACTS XXIX, joined Jayce and James ahead of the first Discipleship Conference in the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City. Father Riccardo explained how he presents the Gospel and more.

Father John Riccardo's passionate faith culminated in the founding of Acts XXIX, a transformative ministry that seeks to rekindle the fervor for the Lordship of Jesus and resist the creeping worldliness in the church.

In today's episode, Jayce and James explore Father Ricardo's discernment process and spiritual journey that led to the creation of Acts XXIX and The Rescue Project. This journey, steeped in obedience, has turned into a beacon of hope for many. The Rescue Project, an innovative video experience, has been instrumental in spreading the Gospel. We also delve into the fundamental role of The Rescue Project in the modern-day proclamation of the Gospel.

Their discussion takes an interesting turn as they look at four essential questions that Father Ricardo uses in his teachings. These questions encourage a deeper understanding of our reality and the state of the world from a biblical perspective. The group also explores the power of the Gospel, the concept of rescue, and the role of a missionary.

Day 9, the final day, of the Saint Martha Novena. Join us in praying the Saint Martha Novena leading up to the Memorial of Saints Martha, Mary and Lazarus.

In previous episodes of the podcast, the idea of being a "recovering Martha" has come up again and again. "Martha" embodying the idea that we have to strive to earn the love of God through our accomplishments as Martha worked while Mary sat at the feet of Jesus.

In the first day of this novena, we seek solace under Saint Martha's intercession. Just as she welcomed Jesus into her home, we too strive to open our hearts to his divine presence.

What can a foray into disc golf teach us about God's Providence? It's not all about birdies and pars. Jayce, James and Father John Paul Lewis dig into the subject of God's Providence, reflecting on how even suffering and adversity are part of His divine plan. Joined by Father John Paul Lewis, who shared his incredible conversion story rooted in his own experience with life-threatening illness.

Absorbing the lessons from the tale of Joseph in Genesis, we examine the power of suffering and its transformative potential. How can our adversities possibly have a redeeming effect on others? It's a challenging concept to embrace, but one that opens up a whole new perspective on faith, surrender, and the grandeur of God's vision. Trusting in the Lord's Providence isn't easy, but taking that leap of faith, just as Joseph did, might be the key to enduring and even finding peace amidst trials.

Drawing strength from the understanding of God's Providence can provide comfort, assurance, and even hope for a better tomorrow.

What does pray like a pirate mean?

A – Acknowledge – Recognize the movements inside of you and honestly name them. Pay attention to thoughts and emotions. Try to be more aware of what's going on in your heart: self-knowledge is essential for growth in the spiritual life.

R – Relate – Tell God what's going on. Be completely real with Him and don't hold anything back. (If you're angry at Him, let Him know.) It isn't necessary, but it might help to imagine Jesus sitting in front of you as you're talking to him.

R – Receive – Hear what God has to say about what you've told him. (This step is the most difficult.) Be confident that he will communicate with you! Try to be attentive in particular to echoes of Scripture.

R – Respond – Act on what God said. This could be continuing the conversation, taking some action, allowing yourself to be changed, or almost anything.

This is part 2 of 2.
