Our story is one of positive social impact. In a world in need of change for the better, just where should that change begin? In today's society, with so many causes that need support, we wondered where to start. It was after an event in LA that we began creating awareness for causes using ties to show support. After all, we're all tied to a cause.
In 2017, the idea began in Hollywood with a 'Gold Tie' event to empower social impact filmmakers with a symbol of support to be worn - a gold tie to represent the 'gold standard' in positive social impact to which these filmmakers held themselves. This led to our 'aha' moment.
Upon leaving LA and heading back to the Midwest, over the course of our flight and a 4 hour conversation, we realized that these ties, these 'symbols of support', could (and should) come in all colors to support all kinds of causes. They should support not just filmmaking but change making. These ties could be more than accessories; they could be symbols, statements and conversation starters to support multiple causes by raising much needed awareness.
It was then and there that Awareness Ties began with a collection of ties… But the ties were just the beginning. After the ties came the ambassadors, the campaigns, the publications and the talks. What started out as a ‘symbol’ for awareness became as ‘stage’ for causes. As a social impact platform, Awareness Ties now continues to write new chapters with the addition of new causes, ambassadors, partners and sponsors.

Suzy Q Winn grew up in a small town, on a farm, learning to survive of the land, before she left for the Army at 17. At 18 she was standing in the desert for the Persian Gulf War. 2 years later, she heard the words, “You have cancer”. Suzy Q was a single mom with a 6 month old son. After given a 50/50 chance of surviving 5 years, she chose to leave the Army to spend whatever time she had with her son. She became a cosmetologist then moved to AZ and began working at the Sheriffs office, first as a dispatcher, then as a Deputy Sheriff, where Suzy Q served for 18 years before resigning due to physical and mental health reasons.
Suzy Q began her trauma healing in 2019 after VA told her that she had complex PTSD and major depression disorder. She began writing this book in 2014, after several people told her that she needed to share her story as a light of hope and inspiration for others, as she had overcome many traumatic incidents. After she had the outline, Suzy Q was stuck in the trauma cycle and was unable to continue writing, “Hope Blooms in a Garden of Faith” until 2020. She was in therapy for the continuation of this book, and spent the summers of 2020 and 2021, in the forest, where she continued to write and began to heal. She had along way to go, but this book allowed her to purge a lot of the trauma, beginning in her childhood. It was through the love and support of her husband, son and daughter that she was able to continue my journey of healing and finishing this book.

ABOUT HEATHER
Heather Donatini and her husband Jason are no strangers to grief. They have weathered the loss of two children, Corinne at just three days old and 4 ½ year old Jarren after a rare cancer diagnosis.
After Jarren’s passing they established the BumbleBee Foundation - a nonprofit organization that supports pediatric cancer families. BumbleBee currently supports over 370 cancer kiddos throughout the state of California through six (6) programs and has recently expanded pediatric cancer support in Idaho.
Heather, dubbed “Queen Bee”, serves as BumbleBee’s Executive Director and considers it an honor to have been able to help families in memory of her son for over a decade now. She credits her ability to stay and fight in the trenches with these families to her faith.
Heather, Jason and their two children reside in Idaho. When not in her Queen Bee role she can be found at the baseball field cheering her son behind the plate, at a horse arena watching her daughter ride, enjoying time with her family, taking in a gorgeous sunset, and exploring her new state.

Rob Gardner is the founder and CEO of Joovy, a global leader in premium juvenile, toy, and sporting goods products for babies through young children that have grown by listening to parents.
Rob is married to Sarah, who is the director of marketing at Joovy. Together, they are raising three children to be good humans by sharing their love for the outdoors with them and their message to be good.
After many family trips to national parks, Rob and Sarah became inspired to support the national parks. “Not only did we get excited about the parks and what they meant to our family, but also about how we could inspire other families.”
Through their partnership with the National Park Foundation, they hope to make a difference. They’ve developed a collection of family gear products featuring endangered animals and the national parks they call home.
They live in Laguna Beach, California, and spent time this summer visiting national parks meeting families along the way.

The story began in 2011 when John's mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and when he found out, he was filled with so much emotion. He felt alone, scared and most of all helpless because he didn't know how to help his mother. He wanted everyone to care and learn about what he was experiencing with her and her struggle to overcome this disease.
He quickly realized that he wasn't the only child in the world facing breast cancer with their mother nor the possibility that he could lose her. At his mother’s bedside, he started hearing all these stories of courage from the doctors, nurses, and later the families of the patients he met who also lived in fear of losing someone very close to them. The activism light had officially become lit.
Growing up, John's mother was a baton twirler. Twirling was a passion that connected both of them. He has had a very extensive career twirling that has landed him in front of national audiences. With his entertainment experiences, he wanted to elevate the sport and infuse baton twirling into building awareness around what it is to be a cancer survivor. Twirling to Fight Cancer was created with love and respect for those who are survivors and stood on the battlefield with their loved ones. John wanted to make an impact and give the community of baton twirlers that they belong to a mission. He wanted to serve the sport and give it a purpose through entertainment, education, and enlightenment.
John believes that this movement not only promotes the sport but most importantly helps to save lives and puts smiles on the faces of those who are fighting the fight and those who are helping them in the battle. John has been blessed with the opportunity and drive to create this wonderful foundation. It is a celebration for the women and men that are alive and still fighting strong, as well as a commemoration for those who are no longer with us. Twirling to Fight Cancer strengthens us in spirit. Twirlers, respect the fight, motivate to be more and open their hearts to love so the cancer war can be won. John's goal was to care enough to make a difference and be a real agent of change. A while ago, someone called me a Pathfinder. At first I felt uncomfortable with the label. I've spent many years now attempting humility and finding authentic love for myself. Most of my life was spent in fear and bravado.
So when I first heard the term Pathfinder, It felt arrogant, as if I might know something others don't. After much reflection, I realized I do. I do know things other's don't. And so do you. There are certain folks out there who choose to live a life of search; a search for meaning, search for inner peace, search for understanding. Being awake is not easy. I get that. I also understand it doesn't make me any better or any less than because I'm on this quest. I just am. And if you are interested in reading this, maybe you are too. Maybe we can help each other navigate the way of the Pathfinder. Because it can be lonely. And it's certainly not the easier, softer way. But for me, I know no other.

About Paul: Paul Rogers’ mission is to help others experience the power and journey of transformation to find their inner passion and true purpose. Well before the dreadlocks, his original vocation was as a successful commercial law partner, transitioning to a kitesurf instructor and international kite school owner. Then morphine into a teacher on a Native Cree reserve and he is not a life coach and transformational expert.
In the last 5 years, he's beaten cancer and he and his family have walked away from a devastating traffic accident with a train. Not everyone survived. Now he lives with the shadow of a severe TBI (traumatic brain injury) and PTSD.
He knows that he has had another shot at life and has taken these destructive events to inspire, motivate and energize others. He believes that it is the light that defines him, rather than the length of his shadow. He lives with a gratitude and pay-it-forward mindset. Paul helps those who are facing or have faced trauma (financial, physical, emotional or mental).

About Karin: Karin Freeland is a recovering corporate junkie. After years in high-pressure leadership roles at Fortune 500 companies, she’s traded the boardroom for the bedroom. In her hilarious tell-all memoir coming out late 2021, she recounts the mishaps and misadventures she’s had over the past 40 years with a special partner in crime: her vagina. Women of all ages can relate to this raw and honest journey of firsts, long-term relationships, and finding pleasure.
Karin is also a speaker and certified Life Coach, focused on helping women achieve their dreams. Through her signature EDIT Your Life™ methodology, she offers one-on-one coaching, giving women all the tools and techniques needed to conquer fears and find their purpose. Since Karin is no stranger to the challenges of balancing work and life and wanted to be able to help more women, she co-founded G.A.L. Talk, which offers group coaching for Moms.
