Today opens with the unveiling of Phillips's new MacBook Pro with a 13" Retina display. They attempt to redefine screen real estate and show how it's bigger than a much bigger Mac. They then shop for a Surface Pro 2-the Laptop pad everything machine. They update to the new IOS 7.1 and agree it's good but has no killer selling point. The talk then moves to headphone do's and don'ts. Finally Jeff explores cloud storage plans with Flickr and Google Drive as supplemental solutions.
EdTech Review #60: War Pigs
This cast begins with an upsetting announcement. Regular episodes will not be happening, but they expect to increase quality. This sounds like the equivalent of a restaurant trying to cut its losses by staying closed on Saturday. They tell of Tech crunch publishing an article showing an iPad with a Nexus background. They swerve headlong into iTunes accounts and examine the new Galaxy X5 bandaid. The big finish is with filters including Snapseed and Gridditor.
Yeah, a big quality bump.
It's good to have a consistent theme that has to do with education. Let's revel in it. This week's episode is about classroom presentation devices. The gents try to get televisions back in the classroom, and offer up some compelling arguments. Along the way they present a brief history of projectors and TVs and look at a 4k future. Along the way, the bulb-less Casio is thrown in the mix. Trust me it's more fun to listen to than to read about.
Episode #58: Mid-range Racket
In this show ripped from today's headlines, crumpled into a ball, and tossed at your kid so that she'll stop reading and go get you the remote, the guys from the High Desert welcome in February with talk of phones, when grime become patina, and dogs on couches. School tech purchasing is taken to task for spending too much on chrome books, and Lenovo is properly chastised for that little red rubber mouse thing in their keyboard.
Think of them not as two blowhards, but as a wise old aunt who isn't afraid to tell you when you're screwing up. You listen because you know she loves you and besides, maybe later she'll bring out that lemon cake she's got chilling in the icebox.
Episode #57: Full Palm Rejection
Finally the gents tackle the controversial topic of note taking apps. This knock-down, drag-out cast tells of the benefits of Notability and it's classier cousin on the Android system. On the way, they talk of iPad sleeves, iPad stands, Paper53, Procreate, Wacom tablets, and a freaky Adonit stylus. If you read this tag before the podcast, join in the fun by printing it out and drawing a line as each topic is discussed. If you do it correctly, you should see a surprise picture of a very grumpy koala bear. They are soooooo cuuuuute.

On this Friday which they proclaim a rededication to podcast sound quality, the gentlemen go back to the ever deep topic of phone battery issues. Ty is hopeful that Apple is on-the-case, while Jeff waits around the corner with a big old bucket of cold water to dash his dreams. After Random Restarts, they shift to the benefits of a sleeve case and the possible implementation of LCD televisions as projector replacements in the classroom.

In the post-Christmas stupor return two giants of the podlands. Mr. Hayes fresh from his required R&R launches into a discussion on the new Mophie Case and how the paradigm for phone hardware has once again shifted for the better. Mr. Phillips back to his old self tells of phone capacities and how a little is just not enough for today's talker. They then ease into talk over hard drives and the never ending issue of space.

If you sense a balance in the world, like working out a popcorn kernel you didn't even know was lodged in a molar, it's because Mr. Phillips has stumbled into a new phone. Once again the prodigal tech guy returns to the sweet embrace of Apple Care for his handheld device needs. The gents of the iTunes store discuss the new iOS, thumbprint security, the ugliness of Android, and being able to share video files through Google.

For a show coming just after Apple's announcements, they do little talking about phones. All over the map, they talk about security, bacon, and pickled products. They do rediscover that Apple cheap doesn't mean inexpensive.
Perhaps next week they will talk about iOS 7. We can only hope.
Show 41: HTC Quality
In the heady break-neck days leading up to September 10th's announcement, top educators Jeff and Ty do an all-over-the-road show with a strong phone theme. They discuss the Galaxy Note 3 and the leatherback design. Broken screens and case solutions are on the table. Of course the Otter Box and the Mophie get their due. It's all prologue to next week's announcement show.

Show Number 39: Googly eyes
Picking up steam for the 2nd show of the new school year, the gents discuss how Google Now is becoming a serious Siri replacement and how its sister app, Google Keep, is the note program to beat. They then try to simplify Evernote and Word for a quick content creating generation and end up discussing Apple's place in the music streaming industry. How does this tie into education? Little known fact-portions of each show is produced and recorded in an actual classroom. Of course the room numbers have been change to protect the technologically innocent.
Edtech Review #38: Micro SD Music Bonanza
After an extended break in which lessons were learned, tears were shed, and Ty visited a pinball museum, these educators return to match wits with the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. They still tout the benefits of the Google Nexus 7 as the bargain class machine. They discuss the new stuff from Google IO.
In the end they dream of an iPad with an expandable SD micro card slot.

Ty and Jeff take a look toward WWDC this week. They keep their expectations low but try to make a reasonable wish list. Jeff details the killer app for IOS7 that will revitalize new interest in the iPhone. Look for a new show June 10th.
Show 35: The Gimp Seems a Pleasant Sort
It's quiet. Too quiet. I had a strange encounter with Tristen Lumly in the hallway just before going to cubicle central to regale myself in the latest offering of the boys from Phelan. Lumly has been working nights for sometime, so it was unsettling to see him here. He tells me that the men upstairs (a euphemism since we are all on the same floor) have been less than truthful about the buyout. He says they have known where Tagpro is going to end up since November, but are trying to keep us on edge. Lumly doesn't know exactly where our offices are going, but he claims that it is all going to happen in the next three weeks. I knew I should have come in earlier.
For the show, Jeff and Ty talk over Flickr. The update in their view is attractive and the free terabyte storage is terribly compelling. Ty apologizes to anyone who subscribed to his feed five years ago and wants you all to know that yes, he did leave Hawaii and his daughter's first day of kindergarten went swimmingly.
They move to an in depth talk of Adobe's new subscription-only model. They find cons and pros and pros and cons before settling on cheaper 4th party solutions.
The discussion peters out when they talk of software-only grants. They make you feel like the government is just messing with them.
I know how they feel.

In a morning show soaked in the coffees of a thousand sugars and fried pastries, the two tech pundits square up, face off, and giggle uncontrollably.
After Jeff's rant over his Nexus phone trying to link up to Starbuck's Wifi when 4G would be better, they get to the crux, the nub, the fulcrum of their podcast-Google's new IO announcements. They discuss trying to manage multiple Google Plus accounts to near tragic results. They ultimately come up with the novel resolution of keeping work and personal lives separate.
I only wish I could.

Here is the premise. Take two people who deal ostensibly with all technology, but who clearly have a serious Apple bent. Have them host a weekly podcast. Have that podcast be 85% about new Apple products. Have Apple not make any announcements, or even statements about possible announcements for the past seven months. Simmer. Watch them frantically vamp.
The product is so sweet, I half believe Apple itself is deliberately holding off information in order to see Ty and Jeff stretch creatively. This is one of the podcasts that would crumble like gossamer if dissected, so I will not be the instrument of holding back art. I say pick up your headphones; get on the mass transit vehicle of your choice; crank it up so high you can actually understand what Ty is saying; and feel superior to those around you listening to NPR.

Talk shifts to kids bringing their own devices and the trials and concerns and benefits and joys this entails. Then talk of Goddess Girls and Crafts of Mine lead us to the real topic (iPhone rumors). Finally they end on QuickTime and all is right with their world.
I received a call from Marla, mother of TagPro's Branson Hendrix. It was concerning the plaque we're installing in the floor's break room. She thinks my adding his love of yogurt was a bit much, but she doesn't see that it comes from a place of love. Anyway, I've got to get back to her on that one.

Show 30: You Just Can't LookAway
In this lunch episode, over a dish of what sounds horribly unappetizing Pad Thai, the gents mull over a disparate collection of topics. Ty introduces the LookAway app for IOS that brings visions of A Clockwork Orange for education. In the Mailbag Corner, they read a note from one lucky fan who had some cogent points about last show's dictation topic. It's all about getting thoughts into print for these two, though.
They then drift to talk of new iPhone prognostications and conclude with their hopes of a new iPadMini Retina.

Show 29: The Bottle Episode
Ty starts right out of the gate discussing Socrative.com, a site for using a myriad of devices for class response. Jeff steps up his game by bringing up nitrotype.com as a typing enrichment flash fun exercise. They then open the scope to talk of the nature of typing and communicating. Have you ever heard something so mind blowingly deep that it puts you to sleep? It's kind of like that. I came back to consciousness when they were talking about dictating skill teaching. They then bring it from the ethereal back to products. Jeff sings of the quickstartabity of the MacBook Air. Finally, or right at the beginning-I really did zone out at one point, they talk Mophie charger cases.
Too much to talk about with Tag Pro drama. I'm going to let it sit for awhile before I'm ready to share.

Show 28:
Rumors of Tagpro's buyout persist, but Kermit tells me he has it from a solid Seattle source that big Redmond is not interested. My coffee intake is maxed out, and having already taken the Twilight walking tour, I can say the state holds little sway for me. So I feel good that I'm not moving yet, but the next round of layoffs is around the corner unless we find our white knight...
Jeff and Ty aren't concerned with these sorts of problems. Such is the life of gubmant work as my nephew likes to say. Their concerns are not local though. They are making a call to Apple to repair their public image through increased memory. They make such a clear case that I'm ready to sell my Apple shares if they don't change. Their ardor for this issue really comes through the mic. I found myself absentmindedly planning out protest signs before the half hour ended. Yes, the show is a little short. They leave me wanting more, and with us coming in to Apple announcement season, I predict some award winning shows coming across my desk in the near future.

Show 27: Walking the Walk
There's a note from Ty telling me to explain that "Walking the Walk" is a reference to the recording process. They recorded in separate locations using latest in technology. I didn't have the heart to tell him that Skype was first put out in 2003, making it last decade's technology. And yet I don't have a problem publishing it in their tag. My ethical line is gets fuzzier when people try to "help" me do my job.
Today's show lacks the wicked interchange I've come to expect from the two vintage podcasters. I use vintage because today is their old-man show. They discuss reel-to-reel interfaces on the podcast app.
Things get real when they start talking about technology in the classroom. We see how ahead of his time Jeff is, while Ty offers is old, but valid plea to see some good modeling of successful use of student-owned electronic paraphernalia in the public education environment.
I picture them standing next to the Jawa crawler trying to get a class set of binary load lifters. But that's probably just me.

Show 26: Floating in a Creative Crowd
News from the Tagpro bunker. I fear this will be censored, but I have my doubts that anyone is minding the store right now. Rumors have been flying the past week that Tagpro's being shopped around for a white knight. Kentel says it's Microsoft, but I can't see it. I guess most see Denver to Washington as a lateral move, but I can't be away from family, so I just don't know.
In the meantime we have a new Theedtechreview show. It's another all-over-the-map show. They even say as much. Jeff has a new Nexus LG phone. Ty buys Pandora and tries unsuccessfully to upload all his iPhoto library to the cloud. They sound like they're having fun though. It takes me away from my problems and the same time bites me with their lack of concern with the real troubles of the world. I think future generations may pull up this series and condemn them as being the reason our society ebbed back to the dark ages.
I need to get a sandwich.

Show 25: At Least it Dies Alone
Well, still fallout from the firings two weeks ago. Marvin on the janitorial staff refuses to restock the soap machines until he's reimbursed for the gloves he purchased in January. Apparently the extra funds side of accounting is somehow tied into the proofreading department. Anyway for the time being Im stocking up on hand sanitizer and keeping a wide berth of the Touchy Toms on my floor.
Today's quick show really leaves us wanting. Ty bemoans his scary teacher persona. Jeff longs for the HTC One. Finally, they decide Jailbreakng is just not worth it.
Not much to say really. I've got to go look for a coupon for wet wipes...

Show 24: Just a Flash of Cream in My Java
I'm fueled. I'm transformed. I'm aghast. I'm shamed. I'm shelled. I'm shocked. I'm a croissant that came out a little too crispy. Look, I know that taking a break is hard on the chops, but I expect the proofreaders at TagAMATEUR to pick up the dropped commas, shave off the shaky prose and polish the dull wit to a professional shine. I don't have to read my tags!! I WROTE THEM! You can imagine when I was perusing my work today to make sure I had the format correct. My shock at the horrible tag from last week. Storming into the office this morning, I find out they've sacked the entire proofreading department. They've apparently axed the memo writing department as well, because I sure didn't get mine. Tagpro's rates are up. Their subscriptions are up. Their profits must be up, but they're crying poor. Norm Sanford, head of marketing tells me the country is moving into a less accuracy based more fly-by-the-seat-of-our-pants time in history. Sometimes I forget last year's promise to avoid Norm. Unless something changes in the next two hours, I have no net. This is me untethered. Forgive me please.
Season two of THEEDTECHREVIEW is very inward looking. Today's show focuses on the Apple app that provides podcast goodness to our thirsty ears. The boys rightfully lament that their show is not featured. I know it's a numbers game, but really? What about heart?
Jeff brings up Podcast box as a possible alternative to the Apple sandbox right before they dive into their comparison of the MacMini and the MacBookAir with SSD. They even have an ad-hoc speed competition between various devices at their hands.
The show winds gracefully with java and flash update updates. A surprisingly persuasive case is made for using Google chrome as a default browser.
No sign of sophomore slump here. They just put both barrels between the ditches and keep plowing.

Show 23: Meet the New Boss
I was actually worried for a time that I wouldn't get to say this. "Welcome to season two of the EdTech review. Wow. It's been so long. I have so much to tell you. Unfortunately I have to stick to the tag format. I was a little uneasy at first when I heard Jeff and Ty just wade into the show without any fanfare. But that is the way of them isn't it? They do this. They started talking about a case for an iPad mini. Then Jeff went to talking about his Apple watch that he wants to get and then back to their default conversation about the evolution of technology.
They discuss the limitations of voice texting in a crowded theater. They try to define what is the ultimate go-to device: the iPhone or the iPadmini. Somehow they weave cargo shorts into this whole strange episode. Then they give us that slight wink that lets us know we that season two is season one. It's...It's so meta.
I see great things on the horizon. And I'm just glad to be back in the writer seat.

Show #16: The App Show
Branson is dead. I just got off the phone with our agent, who informed me that it was a hit and run. He was walking down Welton Street close to 14th when a car swung to the right and struck him head on. The police report lists the as yet at-large car as a grey Honda Accord from the early 2000's.
Branson was staunch in his beliefs and he always stood up for the little guy. As tribute to Branson, we need to be better people and fill the vast chasm of decency that's been created. It's just not going to be the same world without him.
Now the enjoyment I felt listening to the boys talk about Google Maps on the Iphone just seem like distant memories of a happier time. Their proclamation that this is the app show seems a lifetime ago. I went out and put a Flickr app on my phone based on Jeff's suggestion. Now I can't even look at it. They also talk of a $99 Samsung Chrome Book for teachers.
Oh. and it sounds like they recorded the whole thing in the bottom of an empty can of Dinty Moore.
This show is dedicated to Branson Hendrix-beloved son and tag writer. May the big guy find your work as thrilling as I always will.
Show #15: The Best Best Buy
This is certainly an Apple centered show. Continuing their ongoing theme about second acts in America, Ty and Jeff break the news (pretty close to breaking the news at the time they recorded it) that Apple plans on making some products in America. The eerily prescient Mr. Hayes makes reference to Foxconn America that I find at the writing of this review seems to already be in the offing. Jeff has hands-on experience with the newer thinner iMac and gives his short review.
Ty does talk briefly about the use of Google Docs in the classroom and Jeff mentions the cheap plastic of his previous Samsung purchase, but the rest of the show is Apple all the way. It's a hit and miss show in comparison to last week's blazing fireplug, but maybe I'm just angry about the short runtime.
Show #14: The Parable of the Dog and the Ant
This is a welcome breath of fresh air after the Thanksgiving doldrums. I've been worried sick over this cryptic note I received from Tagpro colleague Branson Hendrix. He seems to think he's in danger and the podcast cabal is out to get him. I tried to talk him down and even referred him to my therapist, but I don't think he's ready for the onramp to the road of healing. Let's all pray for him though.
So you can see my joy when the new show arrived and I was pleased as punch at its giddy beginning. Ty pursues the value of the Iphone's Passbook application and how we can use it to be tied to community. Of course every Edtech Review show revolves around our place in culture. Ty and Jeff are always pursuing that eternal question of the individual vs. society and how we push and pull our loved ones to and fro like a washing machine agitator knocking off the loose dirt of the outside world and hopefully not ruining the fabric of the relationship.
They then move into Angry Birds Star Wars and Fieldrunners. It's pleasure BEFORE business today. Then Jeff tells a story of his furious (but I'll just bet) temporary break with the Android universe and both Ty and Jeff share their individual technology paradigm shifts.
It's like two lesser things that make a greater thing such as Swisher Sweets soaked in rum tobacco.

Show #13 Smart Phones 101
The gentlemen bring us into their world on a gloomy November afternoon, offer us a hot buttered rum, show us an overstuffed burgundy leather chair with well-worn armrests, and settle us down for an old fashioned yarn about how Apple, Samsung, and Google are positioned in the smartphone market. It's broken down simply with Jeff in the role of the grizzled wizened tech fogey, (think Wilfred Brimley right before he started doing oatmeal commercials) and Ty masterfully playing the naive stooge. (think of Abe Vigoda as Tessio-but a little younger). Along the way, Jeff makes a shocking statement about screen protectors.
I wont be giving anything away if I tell you the coda to their tale. Jeff, knowing on which side his bread is buttered, directs us straight into an application that will allow educators and educatees to run flash-based websites on an iPad. When the podcast finished, I rose from my chair a little dizzy, a little flustered, and a little wiser. Who can ask for better than that?
Tell Mike it was only business. I always liked him.
Show #12: The Little Device Comparison
I'm baffled by this show. We have to plead to these gentleman broadcasters that although we don't want them to insult our intelligence, we also don't want a show so highbrow that the common listener can't pull a little subtext from the dense technical discussion. I understand that Jeff is reversing his position on the iPad mini, but it seems like he does it with exactly the same position. They look at the Nook and discuss the use of electronic devices by students in learning environments. They seem at odds on what would be the perfect device for the classroom. I feel like there is a tie in with Pink Floyd's Animals album, but I have no examples to justify that. I just keep picturing floating pigs. I've been informed by human resources from our parent corporation that I am not to have any contact with Ty, Jeff, their families, or coworkers, so I am at a loss to find support for my theories. Please readers/listeners if you can offer me insights, I would greatly appreciate it.

Show #10: Announcements Galore
You can always tell by the opening whether this is going to be a great show, or a supergreat show. I think you know which side of the greatness line this episode comfortably fits into. Jabbering like two musical Macaws, they introduce the iPad 4 which Jeff touts as being the same but faster. It's like a new day for the iPad. As a counterpoint to last week's loss show, this is the budding rebirth episode. The new Mac Mini is a rebirth of sorts for the old line. When they discuss how the new iMac redesign is infinitely buyable, I can hear Eric Clapton singing "Let it Grow" (the re-blossoming of old tech. loves) Even their startling declaration in regards to the iPad mini's $329 base price offers hope for the future.
We've made it through the big drop, they seem to being saying, but the ride isn't over yet. These are hard lessons from people who have seen the ugliness of life and know it will cycle back to beauty. In the end, it's all about second chances and giving the other guy a break, saying "I know you've made a mess of things, but now is the time to just run the old dirty laundry with a lot of bleach, crank the temperature up full, and just power away the past.

Show #9 What a Mess
From the opening discussion, we see fragmented thoughts melding the TV show Breaking Bad with multiple announcements from tech companies. I don't need to point out that this is episode #9 and clearly a tribute to the White Album. It's a lure to the lazy listener to dismiss this show as so much Beatle honoring fluff, but there are rewards dear reader, albeit soul crushing ones. Like a sickly sweet Baklava, Jeff and Ty have intricately layered in pathos underneath. When they go back and forth over the price of an iPad mini, you can feel how much cost matters in this sluggish economy. The "mess" of the Windows 8 multiple platforms and Microsoft's slipshod announcement made me think of that once vital company now disgraced, but they kept piling it on. The whole Microsoft Surface from product to advertising is "dumb?" Sniff. When Ty offers a ray of hope that Android is the company to root for, Jeff shuts him down like a Kenmore 7001 suddenly seized by a fan belt that gave its all.
Even Apple is not safe from the knife. If the Nexus 7 dips below $100, they vow to run away from their whole iPad lab! This show deals so much with heartbreaking loss. By the time they were begging listeners to write songs, I was sobbing so inconsolably, the only option left was a trip to Ihop. I've spent many a red-eyed evening over a Cinn-a-Stack French toast, so they kind of know me there by now.
A little note about the production value. In show #9, they leave the ragged Steve Albini approach to recording and work in a more lush style I can only compare to Nelson Riddle. It makes the highs sweeping and the lows beyond low. They create this world for the listener, offer them to take off their shoes and have a bowl of Chex mix. The audience is in the room with them. Then the rug is pulled and the listener is laying on a hardwood floor as the green ceramic bowl plummets straight for the nose and little bits of cereal and pretzel waft delicately. It's quite something, really.
Show #8: In the Matter of Depth vs. Breadth
It has been a busy time. So many important stories to share but so not a part of my job description. It is a good thing to get away and get a little "perspective" (that's a word my new life helper uses quite a bit) I am all for different perspectives of course, but you can really see the big picture with a microscope and an open mind. Ty and Jeff know this, and that is why they always sneak in the little details to show us what the world, human nature, and global political structure is really about. In their new show, they talk about a lot of vital ideas, but the underlying message is that of corruption.
They point out how corruption from the upper echelons of the fast food industry keep freedom of choice away from the little guy. Ty brings up his problem with Siri not talking to him, Jeff tries to help, but they ultimately decides that the phone just has a problem-a corruption if you will. Jeff then moves into his Galaxy phone and the fact that automatic updates make it less reliable in critical situations. They then talk about the corruption of the supply chain in regards to releasing the iPad mini. Finally, they dive headfirst and full throttle into education discussing whether it is better to have a lot of a mediocre thing or a little of a great thing. I won't tell you who wins, but the new Nexus 7 is involved. With Phillips and Hayes, we learn that corruption is endemic, but when we look through our microscope, we can still see the sparkle that hope always brings.
[Finally the Tagpro family is whole again. Stellar reviewer, Betsy Kay Jergenson has been found, unharmed. One of our crack readers spotted her managing a coin operated laundry in Palmdale, CA. She apparently was "taking a vacation from [her]self." She'll be out at least one more week recuperating, and we look forward to her speedy return to the writer's desk.]
Show #7 A Giant Amplified Human Megaphone
Well, it looks like I might be relieved soon, so at least there's that.
For this week, Mr. Jeff and Mr. Ty open with the search for a new stylus for their iPads . They then give an iPhone 5 update discussing the rapid battery drain difficulties. Phillips the more multi-platformed of the two is excited over America finally getting the Galaxy note II. His phone customized with Apex Launcher Pro for Android looks clean and stylish according to them. (Note to the podcasters: photo or video might brighten up these moments of "wow look at the way this transitions")
They also predict that the iPad mini will not be out for Christmas and that Apple might have pricing issues anyway. Jeff offers an option for those who want a mini now, and are on a budget.
Listen like I did and just like that, whoosh, you just got a half hour older.
Just to ramp up, I was not a follower of THEEDTECHREVIEW before this week. When I realized I would have to take over, I reviewed the past shows and Betsy's reviews, although I am quite a fan of her work the best adjective I could find to describe her take on the Hayes Phillips podcast would be "charitable." I will endeavor to provide an equivalent level of service until Betsy is found and is able to take back her mantle. Branson Hendrix In show number six, Phillips and Hayes are supposed to be discussing multi-platform technology education in the classroom. I found none of that here. This seems to be the "Look I got a new iPhone and who cares how it's used for education!" shows. They address the hysteria of the new map application not being as good as Google. They reminisce about the good old days when a Thomas Guide was a lifeline to the outside world. They attempted to delineate the difference between using HDR and regular exposure, but their conclusions were all pretty murky to me. I had no great insights and could find no movie or audio tie-ins to add any depth to the discussion. The show was typical THEEDTECHREVIEW fare, I guess. Keep searching for Betsy. You can make a difference.

Ty brings up that he had trouble buying a new iPhone. Jeff chimes in with his accidentally buying an iPhone 4s. Ty claims that he is happy using the new map feature. Jeff quickly retorts that Siri is the one thing missing on the Android phone. Finally, Ty tersely responds that Guided Access makes the iPad the ultimate education product. Show #4: It's not the number of megapixels. It's what you do with them that counts. Seamless. How these two are able to fold in topical stories at will into what must be a carefully honed narrative is just seamless. I try to picture them furiously writing on Wednesday night tying all the loose ends of their saga about two educators on the edge into the announcement that Apple is releasing it's Iphone 5 with LTE on the 21st. Then I wonder "what must that final rewrite be like?" "How long do they rehearse?" They leave everything on the court in show #4. Ty deftly takes the tale of the new release and brings it back to being all about himself-his worries that he wont be able to order fast enough and that LTE wont be offered in his northwest corner of Silver Lakes. Jeff just has to talk about how much Android fits his personality even though Samsung is withholding Jellybean from him. (Did you think when you were a kid that you'd still be talking about jellybeans and ice cream cones in your 40's?) Sorry, but I wasn't able to score that interview. I did catch Jeff getting into his car, though. His license plate is [It is the policy of Tagpro and its subsidiaries to not publish personal information on it's clients] which is cosmically weird because I love honey and 28 is my favorite number. Show #3: Cuts Like Butter Whoa! There are levels within levels. I mean, it's all fairly standard stuff: They talk of the iPhone announcement on September 12th; Jeff tries to sell Ty on a Macbook Air for the classroom; They decide Apple is actively NOT putting a mini SD card as an option for the Iphone. etc. At one point, I was pretty sure Ty is suffering from Tourettes syndrome, but now I know it's just part of the act. The whole thing seemed a bit tepid compared to the previous shows. That all changed after I pulled out my copy of The Last Picture Show. Once I started playing the podcast at the exact time I started watching the beginning of the pool scene, it all fell into place. When Jaycy sits on the diving board just as Jeff mentions the pretty design but vacuous operating system in the new Nokia, I dropped my fork. and just started applauding. Both works thematically deal with gut wrenching sadness and that moment of life when you discover that people are not as fair, just, or decent as you thought. You know who I'm talking to Amazon. You could try listening carefully to hear the edit points, but this podcast is so meticulously cut, you wont find them. Talk about technology and art blending. The content executives at Tagpro will not allow us to give actual grades for our reviews, but if I could, this would earn an A+. I've unlocked show #3, but I still feel like I'm not quite getting shows 1 & 2. My iTunes play count on both is in the 20's. If anyone out there has a clue, let me know, or I may just ask them myself. I've figured out where they do their recordings, and California is only a short plane flight away. I might do an surprise interview.
Scene 2: Siri is Better
I find this segment to be a bit of a puzzler. They are clearly marking themselves as a pair of voyager everymen out to experience the fruits of other cultures. I find it bold how Jeff sees the Samsung vs. Apple verdict as a sum zero game for consumers, and I did a double take when Ty declared his intention to purchase a new Iphone even though the leaked pictures look so unimpressive. The title must, of course, be a nod to the Talking Heads "Girlfriend is Better" which represents that carefree feeling you get when you're in a new relationship (in this case, with a new phone). Gradually, the show wallows into dark bitter frustration as Jeff tries to text and gets lost in the process.
By the time the credit music plays, I'm torn. This is either the work of certified genius, or I'm reading too much into the significance of the appearance of the chorizo burrito in the opening vignette.
Scene 1: The Identity Crises
In the early teens of the new millennium, we meet the two main characters of the piece: Ty, the affable goof who barely conceals his dark sinister secret & Jeff the gruff curmudgeon whose past misdeeds haunt his very soul. They are in the midst of analyzing Jeff's identity crises asking why a staunch Mac supporter finds himself in possession of a Samsung Galaxy note AND a Samsung Galaxy note 10.1. Stranger still, he knows which is which. This is all subtext to two people supposedly reviewing technology with a nod toward education. There is mention of tire development and food, but it's the corrosive dialogue of two people clearly on the edge that pulls this story forward.
