There are many tropes that have endured for the ages, but none quite so popular as the Dead Mom Phenomenon. Everywhere we look in films, books, TVs shows, etc. moms are dropping like flies. Em is joined once again by two lovely motherless mongrels, Carly and Farleigh to breakdown why moms are such easy targets in fiction, talk about our favorite fictional moms, and of course, get off topic at least a few times.

Join us for a celebration of no longer being burdened by the opinons of others and getting out there (into the internet) and writing/reading literally whatever the hell you want. Go on, get cringey. We can all agree that Nancy Wheeler did not start out as anyone's favorite, right? Our new friend, Farleigh joins us to discuss the Wheeler's eldest child and a whole bunch of other things, like how by season four, she's more than made up for her whiney fifteen year-old introduction and has turned into a shotgun-sawing, monster-slaying, genuine bad. ass. And definitely deserving of a better storyline than a tired-ass love triangle that we all thought was settled by the end of the second season.

Once upon a time, Marvel and the MCU created characters (both good and bad) who were all pretty much, under the surface, redeemable figures. They said "Bad guys are just misunderstood good guys and if we can't make you love a character we can at least make you sympathize with them by showing you how they were tormented by the evil Nazi regime that's at the heart of all the bad stuff in this universe." And we were like, "Yeah, fine. Cool. I'm on board." And then somewhere along the line, the PTB decided that the message they really wanted to put across was that everything bad that happens to you is your fault and your trauma is something that you need to apologize for. And V and Emily were like, "Huh-uh. Not on our watch." Basically, we're not super stoked about Thunderbolts, alright?

V is back to share in the joy, the bliss, the unmitigated rapture that comes from finding a new ship in an unexpected places. Yes, it is true that Chrissy and Eddie only had a brief moment together in canon, but fanfic has done what fanfic does and ensured that their love will blossom and live forever on the internet. Also, a less-than-friendly reminder about parasocial relationships, another million reasons why bullying is never, EVER okay (ESPECIALLY when it's over fictional characters, people,) and some sad news when Emily reminds 99.99999% of the population that, try as they might, they will not be marrying Joseph Quinn.

Diz was a Samantha. Em was a Miranda. That girl who took over Em's lease was a TOTAL Carrie in all the worst ways.
What are we talking about this week?
Why, Sex and the City, of course. We finally convinced Diz to pay us a visit in Shipper City so we can talk about the original series, the two movies (only one of which we really acknowledge) and of course, the newest chapter, And Just Like That.
Plus bonus talk of seriously questionable choices made in college, how Steve is the best and Carrie is the worst and of course, why the writers thought we needed to be punished with the "comedy concerts" of Che Diaz.

It used to be you'd live through one major, horrific, generation-defining experience every 50-60 years or so. Lucky for us, our generation gets freshly defined by something new and horrible every 18-24 months whether we like it or not. But regardless of everything else that's happened, with the CDC's new lifting of COVID-19 restrictions, a lot of feelings are being churned up. It's time for one final look at the trope that cropped up a little over a year ago to help us deal with What Fresh Hell was delivered to us that day and say farewell to the Quarantine Fic.

Emily's had a rough few weeks, guys, so you'll be indulging her this week while she talks very briefly (as in, she COULD go on for another two hours if anyone wants to volunteer to be a guest and talk more about this in detail) about the new love of her fandom life: the love between Sarah Wilson and Bucky Barnes. Climb aboard the SS Fleur de Louve (thanks for the ship name, Mia!) and revel in a love so deep and pure that even the cast and crew are shipping it.

Another birthday party in Shipper City! This week Grimey is here and celebrating Mr. Captain America himself, Samuel Thomas Wilson. Sooo many spoilers for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier so if you haven't watched it yet, you might want to wait to party with us. But for everyone else, kick back and listen to two hours of waxing poetic on our sexy, competent, kind Cap.
And this week we've got video! Click here to watch.

Brittany returns to the halls of Shipper City to discuss everyone's beloved 90's icon, vampire slayer, Buffy Summers. Among the nostalgia is the realization that some of the things we once considered peak romance are, in fact, horribly predatory and very gross in hindsight (lookin' at you, Angel), as well as a nice little deep dive into what it means in Sunnydale to "Experience a Moment of Perfect Happiness."

Have you ever seen a ship so absolutely and entirely perfect in gif and fic form that you think it must of course be canon? Only to find out that is NOT? If so, you maybe be entitled to compensation from the law offices of Nelson & Murdock and be eligible for a one-time payout of a few hundred Shipper Bucks. Anyway. Mia is back, leading Emily aboard her OTP, talking about Karen Page and Frank Castle who, as it turns out, is not who Emily thought he was.

With an official lockdown/quarantine/stay-the-eff-home order in place, Em gives in to the songs that have been playing on repeat in her head since all this nonsense began. Since we're all in this together, it's time to get your head in the game and finally watch all the High School Musical movies for no reason other than you're stuck inside trying to do your part to flatten the curve.

A mastermind, a grifter, a hacker, a hitter, a thief all walk into a bar and stay there, as a found family, and an in-canon OT3. A fandom so perfect it has the lowest amount of fix-it fics. A fandom so perfect it fixes OTHER people's canon. It may not have been a perfect show, but it certainly made an impact on its fanbase and that's something you can't buy...but maybe it's something you can steal.

Emily didn't necessarily WANT to do this episode. She didn't WANT to have spent way too much time analyze a 30 second TV spot, formulating multiple theories, hashing out her hopes and dreams, and finding coordinating fanfic about it. But she did. She did that for you. (And, let's be real. She did that for herself because that's entirely her MO and like, the whole point of this podcast).

Not as popular as the coffee shop AU, but filled with just as much potential for all the best drams, it's the theatre AU! Stage kisses! What else could you possibly need? Anyway, places in five, the set is hot, the curtain's about to go up. Break a leg, shippers.

First, listen as Em is joined by a member of the cast of The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical for a talk about what makes the show and the story so relateable. Listen, no one on this podcast is going to see 'After', okay? It's just not going to happen. Is it part principle? Yes. Is it also part psychotic jealousy? Also yes. Instead, Em's going to offer a few suggestions of fics that are kind of sort of based on movies that would make INFINITELY better movies than the ones currently being shat out of production right now.

Animorphs, Swan Lake, The Emperor's New Groove...all excellent examples of the Animal Transformation trope. All things discussed this week while Em struggles to overcome the mental scars caused by Pinocchio, tries to remember the plot of Lady Hawk, and goes on a truly righteous rant about who belongs in fandom. Two fics from the SS Shieldshock that illustrate why swapping bodies in fanfic can be so much fun.

All Em wants to do is talk to you about every last detail about Killing Eve and how amazing it is. BUT if you were planning on watching it--WHICH YOU SHOULD--then hearing her gush and drool all over the twists and turns and intensity and undeniable chemistry between Eve Polastri and Villanelle would ruin all the surprise.
So in an episode that wasn't really thought out by your host, Em does her best to convey how amazing Killing Eve is without revealing anything. It was very difficult.
