Have you ever wondered how the Old Testament laws relate to you? Are you supposed to stop eating shellfish? What is the point of all the laws we find in the Bible? Join us this weekend as we discuss the Mosaic Law, the ten commandments, and what the point of the law is and what it means for you.

What is your view of obedience and following the rules? Is it something you do to make yourself look good? Is it restrictive and a pain to do? Is it an unfortunate thing you have to do, so you do the minimum? Join us this week as we look at Deuteronomy chapter 4 and learn that obedience is a response to the good things God has given.

Happy Easter CFC! Please be in prayer for those who don’t yet know Jesus, or are not following Him. This is a great time to consider inviting someone to church. ‘COME and SEE’ is our theme. We will be walking through the progression of curiosity about Jesus all the way to reckless abandon to following Him, from John 1:35-51.

This week marks the beginning of Passion week. On this, Palm Sunday, in broad daylight people are making “God-claims” of Jesus. Their euphoria forces the issue! Either you crown Him or you try to get rid of Him. Join us this weekend at either site to explore the implications of this.

What if our paradigm for handling money was working against us? We feel like we need to bring money in and control it to achieve financial satisfaction, but the bible describes a different way of life with money. Join us this weekend as we look at 2 Corinthians 9:6-15 and see 5 principles of giving that will reshape your life.

Have you ever felt alone or isolated? Maybe you've been through an experience where someone you loved and trusted walked out on you, or maybe you've experienced more mundane losses of companionship, such as moving to a new city or a new job. Join us this weekend as 2 Timothy chapter 4 gives a powerful declaration of God that greatly comforts those who feel alone.
If someone was giving you their famous last words, do you feel that you would tune in a bit more? Does your life have a unifying aim and direction to help orient you? Join us this weekend as we look at some of Paul's very last words to Timothy and a final charge that he gives to his mentee and also to us.
How much confidence do you have in your sources? Do you feel like you can base your life fully on your favorite political commentator or lifestyle influencer? We all want the life that God has planned for us, but how can we know what to trust and how to get there? Join us this weekend as we learn about a better way of life and what we can base our life on to get there.
Have you ever worried about the genuineness or the potential counterfeits of the things you love? How would it feel to discover that the item that you spent so much on was but a hollow imitation? Join us this weekend on either site, as we receive see Paul encourage young Timothy and us to avoid an empty type of religion.
Would you like to know that God is using you for good purposes? I think we all would like to escape the mundane and be part of God’s world…to bring meaning to our workplace, pray with someone, give helpful advice, help resolve a conflict, or be part of a healing process for someone. This weekend we are going to look at what helps make us vessels of honor, “useful to the master of the house”, rather than vessels of dishonor.
Christians are ‘one’ in Christ. So then why are there so many church factions and fights? Paul tells Timothy, “don’t quarrel over words” (2:14). Does that mean just be quiet and never dispute doctrines and practices? How do we fight right! What is bad quarrel? How do we fight for truth? How can we let disputes become transformative and helpful to us? Join us this weekend to explore this.
Have you ever been tempted to quit on Jesus? Maybe you've found yourself discouraged in sharing the gospel or being servant-minded in a relationship, when things just aren't working. Join us this weekend, as 2 Timothy 2:3-11 gives us encouragement to endure to the end.
The vibe in our passage is a bit like ‘passing the baton’. Paul (facing execution) is challenging Timothy to “follow the pattern of sound words”. What was the pattern? How did we get the ‘sound’ or trustworthy words of the Bible? If someone said to you, “How do we know you can trust the Bible?” What would you say? Following the pattern includes life on life disciple- making. What does that look like? Join us this weekend to find out more.
I recently had an opportunity to share my faith with the hostess of our vacation condo, but I chose to play it safe and be a ‘good’ guest and leave a nice tip. Is that ok? Should we as believers mostly do the good works, or should we use words to share the gospel, or even with urgency be “…snatching them from the flame…” (Jude 1:23)? In our passage, Paul, who is facing execution for sharing the gospel, is challenging timid Timothy to be full of boldness when it comes to talking about Jesus. Join us this weekend as we explore this topic.
What are you living for? What drives you? In our new series, ‘Multiply’, we find Paul driven by the ‘promise of life’! He is facing execution, and yet without slipping into self-pity, he is fully focused on making disciples. No fear. No distraction. Endearing relationships. A clear conscience. Wow. Join us this weekend to be inspired by Paul’s example.
What is a church? What does it mean to be a part of one? Is it simply to come and watch service and get something out of it, or is it more than that? Join us this weekend as we discuss Ephesians chapter 4 and learn together how a gathering of Christians is meant to operate.
Before cementing in our new year’s resolutions, it’s good to remember who we belong to. US Christianity by nature tends to be self-serving. That’s normal for any people-group who live in freedom and prosperity. Mark 10 takes us to an interesting scene where Jesus is heading uphill to Jerusalem to be crucified and lay down His life, and James and John ask, “We want you to do whatever we ask.” This leads to an amazing teaching that helps us create the framework for all of our resolutions.
Do you ever read through the Bible and get surprised when God's people in the Old Testament betray him? How could they forget all the miracles that God did? When we look at our own lives we find that we operate in the same way. Join us as we discover a tool and encouragement that God has given us to ensure that our hearts stay close to him and we have a faith that lasts.
The Christmas season is a great time to give and receive love. In reality, if we are honest, it can be a bit tense at times. This season can highlight the lack of love around us. The fact that we lack the deep love others are looking for, and others don’t seem to fill our tank as we wish they would. (Did you get all the gifts yet?). The solution is for us to look more closely at the love of our Father, to “see” it, and to let it transform us from the inside out. Join us this weekend to explore. Consider inviting a friend.
You've likely experienced or are currently experiencing some deep sorrow or suffering in this life. If God is all good and all-powerful, why do we have to experience sorrow and suffering? Join us as we discuss God's response to the sorrow we experience and His plan for our Joy.
According to the American Psychological Association, “Anxiety is an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts, and physical changes like increased blood pressure.” Notice that it begins with thoughts and feelings and can ultimately lead to physical problems. In our study, Judah was at an all-time high in terms of anxiety. The brutal empire of Assyria was at the gates, threatening to torture and destroy them. Isaiah 9:4-5 speaks of God breaking the “rod of the oppressor.” The implications of this statement are far-reaching, especially in light of what comes next in Isaiah 9:6: “…and His name shall be called…Prince of Peace…” Join us as we unpack the implications of Jesus being our Prince of Peace. What should we expect? How does He address the anxiety we feel? And what can be done?
We are not in control. It’s a raw feeling, and it leads to fear and despair. The alternative for us, is to trust that this child that is ‘given’ is our “mighty God.” He sees us, and He cares about us! That takes everything that is ‘raw’, and gives us hope. Join us for the start of Advent, from despair to hope!
Do you have a plan for your life? As Christians, we often seek to be led by the Spirit, but how does that affect the plans we make? Is it wise to make plans, or should we simply wait for guidance? This weekend, we’ll dive into 1 Corinthians 16 and explore how Paul approached his plans in light of God’s will. Join us as we discuss how to live with intention while being open to the leading of the Spirit.
Tom Brady was interviewed on CBS in 2016. He said, “Why do I have three Super Bowl rings and still think there is something greater out there for me? Maybe a lot of people out there would say, ‘Hey man, this is what it is!’. I’ve reached my goal, I’ve reached my dream. Me, I think, ‘God, there’s gotta be more than this.’” It’s ironic that he uses the word “God”, in his cry for purpose. This weekend join us to discover the excitement and the implications of receiving our new resurrection bodies. What will our actual future life be like? How does that inspire us today?
Jesus is alive!! He is not just a ghost. He literally, physically rose from the dead. There is undeniable evidence of the fact, and it has major implications. It means that He is with you today, and able to break into our physical world and impact us now. It means that you will not perish, but be transformed into a new physical body of which Jesus is the ‘firstfruits’, and it means that Jesus is above all powers and religions and people groups. Join us this weekend to explore the evidence and implications of the resurrection of Christ.
What if I told you there was carbon monoxide filling your house? Poison in the very air you breathe? You can't detect it because it's become your norm. This is how it is with money and greed in our culture. It's the air we breathe, and many of us are unaware of the danger lurking within. Join us this weekend as we explore the warnings surrounding money and discover how to navigate these challenges together.
This weekend we are excited to tackle what it means to be a “River Church”, and not a “Dead Sea” church. As in Corinth, God has called us towards radical generosity. “He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.” 2 Cor. 9:10 God wants us to become increasingly more open-handed as He transforms us from being an end unto ourselves, to being a channel of God’s blessing. Join us this weekend to explore counter-cultural truths about giving.
When we become believers, we have both natures within us—our natural self and God’s spirit. We easily switch back and forth between the two. The church at Corinth was allowing their natural self to infiltrate their church gatherings and it was causing hurt. Join us this weekend to understand how we can build each other up in church and thereby represent Christ well.
Have you ever been hurt by the community around you? Have you felt offended or wounded by the people in church or in your household? How do we deal with the friction and pain that is caused by a good community? Join us this weekend as we discuss what 1 Corinthians 13 describes as a "more excellent way" to help keep us unified.
What a great opportunity we have as a church to be unified and buy into being part of the “Body life” at CFC. It’s a huge blessing. It’s hard; it will transform you! Unlike our divided and splintered culture, we have Jesus as our common confession, we are empowered by God, and have manifestations of His Spirit working through us. When working together, amazing things happen. What are your spiritual gifts, and how might God be using you to build up the body?
Gender roles in our culture can make people cringe, largely due to the many abuses of power and lack of understanding of the gospel. What does the Bible say about this, and how can we live in such a way that we are honoring of one another? Join us this weekend we explore what it looks like for us to honor each other.
Doesn't it feel like some practices that we read in the bible are way out of date and context? Idolatry? "I'm not making little statues, no big deal." This weekend we are going to explore how idolatry is far more than that and learn together what to do about it.
What would you say to someone who says that you are only a Christian because of your parents or your background? Can you be born into Christianity? Join us this weekend as we look at the idea that your faithfulness is a choice.
Do you get fired up about being part of something bigger than yourself? Does the idea of being used by God to do something great sound inspiring? Join us this weekend as we look at the ministry of Paul and see what the scripture has to say about how we can be a part of more kingdom work.
Is it ok to smoke marijuana, watch R-rated movies, drink alcohol, wear skin-tight clothing, have a tattoo, and have unfiltered access to the internet (all at once-Ha!)? What does the Bible say about these things? The truth is that some of these things are not as ‘black and white’ as we might think. We see right and wrong through various lenses. How should we decide what to do in the ‘gray’ areas of life? Join us this weekend to explore.
At Corinth they struggled with discontent, always looking to improve their status in some way. Paul encourages them to “remain” in the condition they are in. Join us this weekend to explore the dynamics of discontent and how to have an undivided heart towards Jesus. Also, to all 565 of our volunteers, we want to say thank you!
Are you satisfied with your relationship status? Do you feel that life would be more fulfilling if you just had a partner or if your partner were different? Join us this weekend as we turn to 1 Corinthians 7 to see what God has to say about how your relationship status can be fulfilling.
We are excited about seven people who will be baptized this weekend. Come to hear their story and consider inviting a friend. After that we are planning a message about prayer. As we prepare ourselves for this next season of going to a second site and being a light in an increasingly more turbulent world, we want to be sure that we are a praying church and a praying people. Join us this weekend as we encourage each other around the topic of prayer.
Like today, Greek culture said that the body does not affect the soul, that food and sex are just natural appetites, and if you are hungry, you eat, and if you feel sexual, have sex. The Bible, on the other hand, tells us that culture is deceiving us, driving us to follow our passions, and the results are devastating on our lives and our communities. We find a lot of brokenness around us because of people who just follow the lusts of their flesh. So, what is the answer? Do we deny that we have these lusts? Join us this weekend as we look at God’s design on how to handle our desires.
What role do the people around you play in shaping who you become? What if it was true that you are being shaped and molded right now by your community? Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
We can get comfortable, like the Corinthians in their super-city (settle in, don’t make waves, ride the cultural trends and bide our time). Paul, as a spiritual father gets a little sarcastic to reveal their hidden attitudes. He challenges them to dare to be different. He shows by example what it means to be a disciple-maker instead of deadweight. Join us this weekend to be challenged as a follower of Jesus.
What is the mark of a heart radically changed by Jesus?
“I help people”, “I share all kinds of advice,…”? Is it found in virtuous behavior?
I don’t think so. You can do all the right things filled with fear or pride or the desire to be noticed, or to feel good about yourself. So, what does it mean to have hearts that are changed at the root by the grace of God? How would you see that or recognize it?
I believe the answer is found in our text this week.
Hint: Gospel Humility
Join us this weekend to find out more.
Pastor Bobby
The church, collectively is the temple of God, God’s dwelling place. Wow! We are it! God has chosen us as a “household” (Eph. 2:21) to be “joined together to rise and become a holy temple”. What is your attitude towards church? How can the church ‘defile’ itself, or become overinflated, or undervalue what it means that we are all in Christ? Join us to process what it means to live like we are God’s temple.
Are you doing work that is going to last? Will there be an impact in 20 years from the things you are doing today? People have a deep desire to feel like their work matters and has a lasting impact. Watch the message for a dive into 1 Corinthians 3:10-15 and the idea of Doing Work That Lasts.
Have you ever changed a diaper? Have you ever changed the diaper of a 5-year-old? What’s the difference? Well, the kid should be further along than the infant. (So, I get a little resentful). In our passage this weekend, Paul brings up the issue of ‘carnal’ Christianity. It’s the idea that people can profess to be Christian, but not really be growing in their faith. Join us this weekend to get a better understanding of immature and mature Christianity, and how to cultivate spiritual maturity in our lives.
Today we further discuss the mysteries of discerning spiritual things - a gift only given by God to those who believe! It's fascinating to know that we have the mind of Christ. But why doesn't it feel that way to us all the time?
Why do you believe what you believe? Is it because it feels right to you? Maybe it's because of perfect reason? Follow along as Pastor Nathan explains why Paul only preached Christ crucified to the church in Corinth, so as to rely only on the power of God and not human ability.
“Don’t judge me man!” (An increasingly popular phrase). When Jesus tells us, “Judge not, that you be not judged...” (Matt. 7:1) does that mean we are to just mind our own business? Should we not judge others? Should we not have Judges in our courts? As we unpack our passage we can start to identify that feedback is super important and can lead to healing, but that not everyone is qualified to offer feedback.

I worry about money, health, happiness, freedom...there you have it! When I graduated from College I was beyond broke. I remember spending my last $75 on a bicycle. Now I have three kids in College and I still feel beyond broke. At times it feels like I never have enough, and even with any nice things I have, I worry that they will be broken or stolen. I thought we live in a free country, but I don’t really feel that free. Join us this weekend to hear about the life-shaping mindset of true freedom as found in the words of Jesus.

Twenty years ago, living in Ethiopia, Em and I had a crazy home invasion experience. (More on that this weekend). Needless to say, we went from being fully asleep to fully awake in seconds. Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount is a declaration of the message of the Kingdom. In Matthew 5, he is shaking the people awake from their cultural coma by challenging their definitions of right and wrong. This week, as we continue in Matthew 6, we find Jesus warning of the dangers of hypocrisy and cutting straight to the heart of our motives for doing good.

Were you discouraged this week that you don’t cut it?
Did you look down on someone who is bad?
Jesus said to “be perfect”! (v.48). (“Oh boy! I’m done!”).
How is that possible? Was He serious?
Jesus was more than serious! He even warned against tampering with God’s laws and used six illustrations to show us the gravity of imperfection. Where does that leave us?
Matthew 5:1-16

What satisfies?
With the arrival of God’s Kingdom, Jesus declares that ‘Makarios’, or blessedness (fully satisfied in God) comes to us in an unexpected way. It starts with being “poor in spirit” (morally
bankrupt beyond measure), but as a result it changes what I hunger for and then leads me to be filled with things that truly satisfy. Our own spiritual bankruptcy opens the door to satisfaction.

Why was Jesus led into temptation? Why are we tempted? Can anything good come from the struggle? In this chapter, we will get a close up look at what is behind temptation, how to resist, and the good things that come through the process.

The death of Kobe Bryant was shocking to us. How sudden. The moment he stepped into the helicopter last Sunday morning, he was probably not thinking that he would be face to face with his Creator within minutes. Our study this week has a certain shock value. The Kingdom has come! We are taking a journey through Matthew’s gospel to see and feel and respond to the arrival of the Kingdom of Heaven. What was it like? How did it change people? What was the message? How can we be prepared?

The Body of Christ is an equipping mechanism to help us grow into fullness. Our passage today includes the concept of “speaking the truth in love.” What does that mean? Is it better for people to just be quiet and mind their own business, or how should the church help each other to grow? Jesus seemed to model that for us by being compassionate and yet assertive when necessary. Let’s look a little closer. There is great potential for growth.

Do you ever wonder, “Where is Jesus?” According to Eph. 1:22b-23, the church embodies Christ on earth…“the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all...”. So, the more believers connect and build each other up, the more we experience the fullness of Christ. But what exactly does it look like to “attain” unto the fullness of Christ (Eph. 4:13)?
