We offer a bimonthly (nearly) podcast of progressive rock as part of the Progrock, com broadcasting network.
Compared to recent episodes, this is a lazy collection of music. As I am getting ready for the 1994 show, my attention has been on listening to music from that era, but with all of this research of the past, I am missing the newest material. As a result, this episode is all about catching up, mostly blindly. Still, we collected some great new material for you to listen to, and threw in some older stuff when possible.
On April 23rd we will peruse the music of 1994.

If I had lots of extra time, I would run a show specifically based on Jam and Improvisation. In the live and spontaneous creation of music is where we can find the greatest adventures in sound. There are certainly moments in which the fruits of the labor come back without the treasure that they were seeking, but the times that our musician friends do find their way out into the chaotic cosmos and find the gold in the shadow, that is when you can really get turned on and tuned in, and perhaps if you are lucky dropped out. I have tried to provide some examples of amazing jams for those who don't seek out such journeys. I have included Jam Bands and Jazz Fusion, but there is so much more out there to explore- suffice to say, we will come back to this theme in the near future.
That said we have some upcoming shows to look out for: On the 9th we will have a more spontaneous show featuring some of the newest music that is coming out- as well as some old favorites, and then on the 23rd we will turn our attention to the year 1994 as part of our continued drive towards 2024.

Some time in the past I started counting up to the best of the year show. That meant going back across the decades, maybe to compare years. Well, 1984 in prog holds no comparison to last year whatsoever. Many will argue that there is much more prog to pull from than I pulled from here, that is likely true, but this was an endeavor to give you some of 1984 that I found the most meaning and joy in. That means that new wave rears up along with other genres, but I always tried to make the connection to prog rock. There were a few misses. For instance, I could have been more careful with the break in Roger Waters- it is hard to find a stopping point in the album as it all bleeds together. The best way is to listen to Pros and Cons is all the way through, with headphones, in a blacklit room. There is also that the Russ Ballard song I chose is not in fact from 1984- my mistake.
The next show will be help on March 26th and we will feature jam bands and improvisational prog.
Here is the 1984 setlist:

Let me preface this episode by pointing out, I don't believe I am a fusion fan. What this means for you the listener is that you may not find my taste in fusion is similar to yours. Despite this obvious detractor from a tour of fusion and jazz prog, I believe we put together quite a nice set of fusiony goodness in this episode.
Next show will be 2/26 and we will be heading back to the music of 1984.

We nod to our past, by decade, as part of our countdown to the music of 2024. It's an interesting way to view the music we love decade by decade. It's not a best-of-show but instead, an attempt to give you a small swath of the music that emerged in 1974. As part of creating a theme, I find pleasant surprises and long-forgotten music, and if I feel some connection- you get the music. So join us for this all-too-short trip back to the year 1974.
Next time, we will jaunt merrily into the world of jazz rock and fusion prog.

With the start of the new year, we wanted to harness some shamanic energy for the voyage forward. That's why we open the year with a 3 hour long drum ceremony. Drummers are the powerful backbone and structure for the music we enjoy. They can provide the subtle shifts needed to move us forward, or the power needed to get us through those challenging moments. The collection provided here is so far from exhaustive. We missed so many great drummers, and some we doubled up on just due to the amazing work that they have done in prog. Still a fine collection of musicians is presented here and we hope that you will enjoy what they have given to us.
Next time around, we time travel to 1974.

Another Christmas episode from Soundscape with an attempt to present only new material (well at least previously not in a Soundscape Christmas episode). The music is a mostly mellow cache of holiday bits and pieces. Your DJ was exhausted and anxious but I stand by my choices.
Suzi and I would like to take a moment here and express our gratitude that you continue to explore our episodes. It is our heartfelt wish that we can continue to provide you with new and interesting episodes in the coming year. Some of the upcoming episodes will feature a focus on drums, a look back through the years, a celebration of the music and finds of 2024, and of course a return to Norway- with perhaps a sidequest to Switzerland. Either way you slice it, we are looking forward to the next year with you all and we wish you happy holidays and a new year of meaning making and peace.

Many of us live in a sense of conflict with others. It would be easy enough to pick a pack of songs that further sowed division, but I thought, why not instead focus on values. The goal then was to pick songs that expressed values of hope, kindness, empathy, compassion and understanding. We can surely agree that these are the lofty goals of our humanity rather than the daily division sewn into the fabric of our world right now. Hopefully this set of music will bring some sense of salve to the wounds you feel.

In a previous episode, we were so taken by the presence of the piano, that I decided to devote an episode to just piano. I of course unearthed a treasure trove of piano music from the progsphere and my listening tastes. There was no way to include it all, so stay tuned to our Instagram page for songs from the cutting room floor.
There was also a desire to add AI as a podcast host, but that did not turn out as planned. I am still working on that setup, but I think it will be a lot of fun when we get there.

It turns out that the music from Norway is so good that we made a part 2, and indeed part 3 is to come in some future episode. The exploration of this music has been so much fun and turned over so many new stones that there is still a plethora of progressive tuneage to mine for Part 3. Live listeners said that they really enjoyed Part 1 and Part 2 but you be the judge.
Next time we meet here it will be for the first Soundscape Halloween episode in about 3 years. This means that the dig has been very successful and that you will likely hear some new music to get your bones rattling and your feet tapping, just ignore the chill up the spine- but that is next time. For now, here is the set list from this week's episode.

In this week's episode part 1 of our exploration of Norwegian Prog. This was a very enjoyable exploration of progressive rock and other musics from Norway. I really had no idea how deep the rabbit hole was going to go, but once I realized how much enjoyment I was getting out of the exploration, I knew that I would need 2 episodes to do this all justice. Although there is some modern prog, the set seemed to lean more towards the psychedelic and the strange. That's pretty normal for us, but I imagine many people will say we missed a lot. Well, we did, because there is too much to explore here. I imagine the next episode will lean more towards the symphonic and neo-prog- but as I say, the journey continues.

Here we are, finally back on track. Our newest episode of Soundscape features a great many prog-rock fairy tales. There were so many to choose from, and likely we did not even play most of the expected songs, or even come close to exhausting the theme. This means that part 2 will probably happen at some point. Nevertheless, we think you will enjoy the collection we have made for you here.

We wanted to identify what makes Generation X different from other generations. Many books that lay bare this question, but the one that informed most of my thoughts about Generation X was the book Generations by Jean M Twenge. Twenge did not make any real statements about the music of the generation. Instead, she identified differences mostly based on how we interacted with different technologies. For instance, Generation X is the last generation to grow up on analog music and the first to experience digital. We were the first generation to experience MTV which changed the face of music as we knew it. There are many more data points that Twenge pointed out that provide the parameters for Generation X. However the questions I wanted to answer were more related to the content we listened to.
What music defined Generation X? When we started creating our music, what were the trends we created? What impact did Generation X have on our beloved prog rock? Some of the answers may be contained here in this episode, in short, the results of my findings in this all-too-brief exploration of generational music were:
Regardless of the generational divide that seems to show up in culture wars, there is no escaping that the music we listened to growing up came from the previous generation. Progressive rock itself is a Boomer genre of rock music. We grew up on Classic Rock, Punk, and 80s pop. When Generation X did start speaking musically, we developed Grunge, and Hip-Hop. However, on the prog side, we had prog metal and post-rock. The earliest rock music from Generation X appears to have been Gun's and Roses (although some members just miss the identified cutoff). The earliest band to speak prog that was a Generation X fronted band, was either Majesty (later known as Dream Theater) or Echolyn.
The episode provided here is not even close to answering all of the questions, but the research and theme did make for some enjoyable listening. We hope you enjoy this all-too-brief dive into this question.

This week Soundscape moved to its new time and place. We now broadcast on Wednesday evenings every two weeks at 5-8 pm CST. This episode is not themed at all. It is a grab bag of new music (at least to us). We will return with our Generation X theme in 2 weeks on 6/19.

Wow, what a journey! Over the last few weeks, I perused and listened to bunches of albums. I was seeking a particular sound, a psychedelic sound. When I started I didn't know what I was getting myself into. I even had extreme stress in trying to curate what was right for this show. I wanted to both offer some ethereal journeys and yet still provide enough landing spaces that it wouldn't overwhelm the passenger. Amidst chuggernauts, cosmic tinged distortions, and typical psychedelic poetry, I found the path. If there are bumpy moments I apologize. Most flights have some level of turbulence. I just know that we seem to have landed safely. Enjoy the ride and look out for the next exciting adventure in the Soundscape.

As you may recall, in our last episode Suzi suggested we do something special to celebrate Cinco De Mayo. We chose to do this by playing a whole set of Mexican prog rock. For us, it was an enlightening journey and we found quite a few gems that we will keep in our listening queues. We hope that you will do the same.

Who knows why I would dare myself to develop a show based on dentistry in prog, but I did! Now lovely listeners I invite you to enjoy one of the stranger musical journeys we have done. Regardless of the strangeness, I think we created something here that is worth your perusal. Let us know what you think.

Hello fellow music lovers!..... We are back!! It feels exciting to be broadcasting again. I have missed sharing music and researching great music. There are of course some key differences to our previous iteration of Soundscape. The most obvious is that the show is shorter and will only show up every other week (schedule allowing). This shorter time means we will focus on the theme for the entire show instead of having sections as we did before. What that means in terms of content is that we will not likely have as much new music, but that's ok because there are plenty of outlets for that stuff. You need only to turn your dials to progrock.com to get your new prog fix on with a wonderful array of prog rock radio podcasts. We will of course still incorporate new songs and bands as they impact the theme.
This episode is appropriately titled in that the theme this week is horns in prog. There were a few moments that brought the podcast back but the running theme of those moments was based on the use of horns in the music I was listening to. It was somewhat uncertain what the show would look like but I think we got a lot of good stuff in the mix. While we did not get all of the requests, I will make a short list of those available at the bottom so that you guys can check them out as well. Where a song was more well-known or expected, I opted for lesser-known material.
This was a wonderful set of music but we missed many and here is the short list of the ones that were culled:
There are many more and I encourage you to come and talk about them in the chat over at Soundscape on Facebook.
Thanks for listening and please feel free to contact us at soundscape@progrock.com
The system I use to broadcast Soundscape has never been the most reliable at doing its job. This episode took a while to put out because I was aware of the problems in the mix. During the live broadcast, the levels would change on every song. So I did not want to put it out as it was. I have done my best to equalize the volume across the episode. Hopefully, this will sate those thirst for a new show.
The mix itself is mostly a gathering of newer music, tempered with the usual spices of older stuff. I hope you enjoy it. There were some really stand-out moments I thought. Share and Enjoy!
The title may be a little cheesy, but when I was putting this one together, I was needing a vacation. I still need one actually. At any rate, if there is music that can take you away from here, it's prog. In this case, the focus was on bouncy and inviting sounds. Summer prog- if that's a thing. We attempted, at times unsuccessfully, to stay away from the political stuff. So it is my hope that you enjoy this set of mostly upbeat and fun prog rock. Happy Progcation!
Progcation
You see what I did there...revolution with a question mark. I remember stories of how the Beatles had different versions of the song 'Revolution'. Some vesrions said 'you can count me out', others that said 'you can count me in', and one that vacillated saying, "out, in". I think it came down to John knowing a change was called for but being uncertain if destruction or violence were called for under any circumstances. I mean it does not really ring true with the "All You Need is Love" sentiment. I have similar questions. I can see the need for change, but I am also very hesitant to say that my values are worth the sacrifices of the values of others. It's not my job or place to tell other people how to live their lives. Nevertheless, I think some of the things our governments are doing are morally reprehensible, and some people will die for the decisions of a few key players. So what I present here in this episode is neither a call for destruction nor a call for laisez fair tactics. If you get confused, listen to the music play. Perhaps you will hear a call to action, or perhaps you will hear something else that you need to hear. Hopefully, our set will feed some part of you. Hopefully, you will be able to stand for values of peace and care towards others. Maybe a song will turn you. I hope that it does.
Revolution?
In this episode of Soundscape, we take you through several areas of prog. In the first few sets, we focus on music from 2018. Later we switch over to Greek Progressive Rock, and finally, we drop into new music from 2020. A pretty well-rounded show and I think you will thoroughly enjoy it, though I dare say, your DJ was distracted by a lot of things and may have sounded flighty at times. I think I leaned into it, rather than trying to avoid it. But perhaps I got away with it and you will just listen to the music.
In the midst of all the social upheaval in America and many other countries, I wanted to do an episode featuring black progressive artists. Unfortunately, there is no ready index of these musicians, so it will take some research, but I am determined to get this into the next episode. If you have ideas or input, please send email to soundscape@progrock.com

Part of the original idea, the early pictures of the Tardis made of speakers, was that we would travel in time. With prog at least, we have a pretty limited window of time travel. All time periods have an almost exotic nature to them. This seems especially true for 2018. We just very recently lived through that year, but most of what we play here on this episode has not gotten a ton of play. Nevertheless, we have worked with the chat group to deliver a phenomenal swath of 2018 music. This is neither a best of, nor is it a random walk through 2018. Much of what we uncover has not been played on Soundscape. As stated in the episode, there is a ton more to play and we will need to continue the exercise, just in smaller doses. So in the coming episodes, at least until we plum the depths, we will offer some small smattering of 2018 but still seek out new themes to address. Speaking of which, next time around we will get a dose of Greek prog rock in our first Escape Velocity episode of 2020. Here is the setlist if you wish to peek. Happy 2018!
Lets Fly 2018:
Live from 2018:
Back to the Studio:
Forget everything and enjoy Spring in whatever way that you can. This episode of Soundscape is about Spring. Have we done this theme before? Of course we have. Is this new? I think so. Am I talking to myself? Most assuredly, but I am doing so with you in mind. Yes, as there is a homonculi in me, there is also one in you, and you and I are just listening to them talk. About spring music, about new music, about fun, frivolity, and joy. May the 4 of us groove together as we take on this grand tapestry of amazing music and invite Spring to live in our homes and ear.
This episode was an attempt to photograph some of our experiences during social isolation. It was no small task to find songs that matched. Often when I take on a theme, I try very hard to make it work. It does not always, and whether you as listener feel it or not, I felt that we were not firing on all of our cylinders. We still had a great time, played some good music, and took some unexpected journeys throughout. Still if you catch a glint of anxiety in my voice, its because this did not go where I expected it to. Perhaps like all creative pursuits, the end result never matches your expectations. Your mileage may vary.
In this episode of Soundscape, we take a journey far away. Mostly the show is a fly by the seat of the pants affair, but the goal however nebulous was to provide a set of music that took us to fantasy worlds and strange environments. Sometimes, this meant playing music even we did not know, others it was a nostalgic kick back, and also some very good songs were suggested by the listeners in chat. Either way we had some spills and thrills and we played a good show. Hopefully something here will brighten your day. Best wishes from your friendly DJs at Soundscape.
A Journey Far Away
Hello my friends,
Soundscape returns in your hour of need. We know that many of you are having to avoid social gatherings, and you are likely looking for a voice to broadcast across the wasteland. An oasis of musical exploration and bliss in the virtual fields is what we are offering. I needed some rock and roll healing, and this set of music is here to offer that to the rest of you as well. While sometimes the set goes a little darker than I wanted, it is still a massive pile of awesome riffs, hooks, and intrigue and I believe you listeners will feel the excitement that a guitar chord can provide. So get your rock on and party with the progsters at Soundscape!
Happy New Year to all of our Soundscape listeners. We threw some curveballs last year with reduction of shows, and talk of a new project. The fact is, its all in gestation and I am not yet sure what direction things will take. I know as I contemplate the very real possibility of closing down Soundscape- a show that has been running off and on for 16 years, I get wistful and don't want to let go. I have made incredible lifelong friends through Soundscape, and I have discovered countless songs and albums that have impacted my life. So, as we wait for the new to be born, I make a small commitment to the stalwart listeners who have flow with us so many years- Soundscape will not go away for a while, but you will see a reduction in episodes as a whole. The new project, is still a dream waiting to be born and I have the feeling that it will be worth the gnashing of teeth and anxiety it is causing me.
In the meantime, we have put together a show about musical resolutions. That said, this is not the right show to start your Soundscape voyages. If for some reason this is your first episode, this is not the place to start. On that fateful Sunday the powers of the random universe conspired against us, The show broke into about 15 parts and they are now all stitched back together, but there are gaps that are obvious in the midst of some really great music. So unless you are among the chosen, turn back and find an older episode.
New Years Resolutions 2020 Edition
With all of the ongoing projects and work I am doing, I have been slow in getting this podcast out. For that, I apologize. However, it's just as good today as it was when we made it. This episode is almost entirely music from the year 2008. That was a good year for Soundscape and for music as a whole and we hope that this episode will help you see that. We opened the show with "Find Your Way Back" from Jefferson Starship. I think this is more of a statement about being gone for a while and needing to find our way back to the good ship Soundscape. Honestly, dear listeners, we have not abandoned ship, but we have been on multiple away missions. What's to come at this point is uncertain. There is still a plan to launch a new podcast, but also to keep Soundscape around for new missions. So for those who are perhaps grieving the loss of Soundscape, know that we are not planning on abandoning it, just that it will come around much less frequently once our new show starts.
That should be enough ambiguity to keep you all coming back. Here is the setlist for this show: Enjoy!
Too Late it's 2008:
In our opening, we talk about traveling the sonic tapestries; a turn of phrase that sounded pretty good at the time. Anyway, we don't usually talk about the meaning behind this cryptic phrase so I figured lets name this episode with that name. When I am in a state of flow, creating a setlist for Soundscape, sometimes something magical happens and I feel the presence of a theme, or a world being created or called out of the background. I actually only intended this episode to be a short jaunt into some new music, but it turned out that the muse had a higher calling. So, I will let you piece together your own meanings here, but for me, a story played out that was meaningful. I hope it is for you as well.
Next time around, we will have a proper theme.
Happy travels:
Travels in the Tapestry
Soundscape returns....at least for the moment. Big changes are afoot in the Soundscape studios. We are going to be closing down the Soundscape podcast, in favor of something new. While the new does not yet have a clear form, the notion I have is to provide a much more in depth discussion of theme and music and expand the discussion part of the podcast. Some may feel that this is not a fix that Soundscape needs. We have been running this podcast very close to 15 years now I believe. That is a long time to do something like this. There is a new thing hoping to be born, but to properly midwife it into this reality (out of the realm of dreams and numinous forms), I will have to put all of my attention on the project. Soundscape has reached its transition day. Carousel will happen later this year and Soundscape will cast off its earthly form and go back to the ethereal realm from which it came. I hope you will all appreciate our new direction. In the meantime, we have not run our course just yet. I believe we still have some episodes in us. We will properly close out Soundscape by continuing our series of yearly reviews, running a few key theme shows, and finally an all out blow out bash to celebrate our run and the people who have been on this adventure with us. To that end, herein is contained the most recent of our podcasts, a romp through some of the music of 1998.
Plunging into 1998
As the summer starts up, a number of changes are developing. While I did not expect to go on hiatus prior to this episode, I was aware that developing our normally well crafted themes was coming to a close for a little while. So instead, as we closed out the month of May, I decided to simply play a patch of things that were piquing my interest. Many of the songs you will hear on this episode were new to me at the time and we are all discovering these pieces at the same time. I hope you will enjoy the journey.
We are taking a break from Soundscape for most of the summer. We have a number of projects that are under way including moving. We also have several weekends where we will be out of town, so it just made sense. Soundscape, while perhaps not the most consistent show, has been running for well over 10 years now. Its time to let things rest for a moment. Most likely we will be back in full swing in the near future. Much love to you all and keep on progging on.
Previously on Soundscape, we discovered that we are not alone, so the prog prophecy tells us. So this time, we leave this bedraggled rock and seek a more appropriate venue for our musical visions. Along the way, we come face to face with some damn fine tunes, and even a short diversion through a perfect album side. It's time for us to BLAST OFF! Please join us on this excursion.

After returning from an amazing journey across the pond to the Motherland, we were ripe for a musical trek through the streets and vistas of London. Our expedition was inspiring but tragic, wonderful and woeful, but for you the listener, we offer a tapestry of sounds that may make you either homesick or want to take a trip of your own. There is lots to discover here and I hope that you will enjoy your time as we stroll the streets of England.

I'm not sure about your experience, but when I look back on the music of 1988, there are not very many things that have stood the test of time. However, that is not to say that 1988 did not offer some good music. This episode is another in our time machine series. Here we return to 1988 in hopes of finding the best or most meaningful music in that year.

As you may all know, I am a huge geek. I love every aspect of science fiction. One of the cornerstones of good science fiction is the first contact story, From Arthur Clarke, to Carl Sagan the story has been played around in every media format of science fiction. It opens the door to the most challenging questions; How do we reconcile with being neighbors? How do we present ourselves? Are these others friendly or coercive? Do they want to be friends? Are they even aware of us at all? More importantly the first contact story stands as a ready critique of our ways of dealing with the 'other'. Do we adopt a colonial attitude? Are we welcoming? Are we the enemy? So many great questions and the beautiful answer is that since we have yet to encounter this moment, we have no clue. We have a body of speculative literature and media to help us explore this question. And that is a beautiful thing!
So here we are, at the corners of progressive rock and science fiction once again perusing what makes our genre of music so damned intriguing. We have gathered together a number of songs that will help us explore what our music has to say about this most important of topics. Check it out:
We Are Not Alone
We begin with a rather simple premise. We are listening for contact. The inclusion of a more political piece from Marillion here is meant to indicate the state of our world. The mess we find ourselves in. This is also true of the Neal Morse piece. The idea was to help identify that these are the reasons we might look to the skies. Perhaps some new wisdom could be brought down to earth and we would learn that all of this trauma and terror we inflict upon one another is unnecessary. Or at the very least, we might learn that there are bigger problems for us to manage, and perhaps what we need is a good ole invasion to bring our sorry asses together because our little ego bound attitudes are in fact tearing this world apart.
If I continue following this yearly theme of running through the decades, I will not finish for 8 more years. We will see if that happens. For now though, you get the benefit of my journey through the ages. Last time on our history trip we hit the year 1968, today we jut forward one decade to 1978. Punk had been kicking out our shins, disco was knocking at our back door, and yet we the few, the happy, the prog, moved ever forward, progressing as it were. Eating the music around us and spitting it out as progressive rock.
Perhaps that is the legacy of progressive rock music, it assimilates the best and perhaps sometimes the worst of the musical culture at hand, and churns out musicians with vision and soul. We can see all of it in 1978. This time, we will not be dipping across the years to get any of that new music action. No, this journey is strictly for 1978. Come join us as we stroll the sonic tapestries across the corridor of time.

There are moments when the brand of inspiration strikes hard on the buttocks of your Soundscape DJ. I thought this was one of them but it turned out to be a very painful temporary tattoo. What started as an homage to Leonardo da Vinci, then morphed into a theme about being a Renaissance man (A cat of many colors), and finally deteriorated further to simply, questions and perhaps answers that such a person might find. So the theme went through the ringer. While I did find some music that matched the theme, there was just not enough to support the show.
What we do have though, is a fantastic set of music, a perfect album side, and a healthy helping of the newest stuff we could grab. Here it is- check it out;

Across the ages way back in time, when most of us were expressing our only protests on the world in diaper squiggles and loud cries, the music we love was taking shape. Fed on a diet of rock & roll, classical music and a dash of jazz, prog was taking its first steps into the world. It was 1968 and music was in a state of transition. It was a highly experimental time for some of our favorite musicians. Progarchives and other progressive rock venues label much of the music of this day as proto-prog. The elements were there, but we had not quite gotten to the masterworks that were yet to come.
This will be our first of 5 journeys into the past this year, leading up to an overview of 2018. You will find in this episode many things that you may not heave heard or paid attention to, but here in 1968 we are in the genetics of our prog forefathers. Join us on a fantastic journey into the past.

Now with a title of that weight you might be expecting to be carried away or transfixed by the music contained within. Indeed, I hope that is the outcome, but what is contained herein is a short homage to one of the most fantastic children's books ever written, "The Wind in the Willows" by Kenneth Grahame.
To be honest, there was not very many bands that paid homage to this story. So instead we culled together music that may well fit the theme of the story if not always the tenor. I shored it all up with some of the newer stuff just to keep you all on your toes, but I also included some of the major pieces of Wind in the Willows in hopes of communicating the story as the music allowed.
"The Rat never answered, if indeed he heard. Rapt, transported, trembling, he was possessed in all his senses by this new divine thing that caught up his soul and swung and dandled it, a powerless but happy infant in a strong sustaining grasp"- From The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame.
The Piper at the Gates of Prog
Well, here we are at the turn of the season once again. This may be our 12th or 13th Christmas episode and personally, I found this one to be very meaningful. We are quite past traditional Christmas music at this point. Instead narratives of the passage from dark to light fuel the ritual fires of the Soundscape. I feel as if each tradition and ceremony we observe over the swift passages of time, mark turning points, at least for me. One of the reasons Soundscape is sometimes a challenging journey for me is that each episode grows of its own nature. Muses compete for my ear and eventually, something roughly resembling the original idea emerges. Like any other creative undertaking, this DJing thing is a matter of seeking the thing, rather than the shadows of the thing, but somewhere in the imperfections, lies the heart of our humanity. We are the broken ones seeking solace in a world of shattering illusions, and subsequent mythologies of care. We strive for something greater than ourselves. So within this journey, you may find a very clear presence of pain, and loss, amidst the magical metaphors our musicians weave. It is my sincere hope that something here meets you on your own journey back to the light. As the days again grow long, may you find peace and industry to sustain you through another year. Happy Holidays! May you be reborn for another trip around this life giving star of wonder.
Have a Proggy Jolly Christmas
I have been a Pink Floyd Fan since I was a teenager. One auspicious day, while listening to the local rock station, "Not Now John" came on. I spent weeks trying to identify the artist/band who wrote this song. When I finally found the artist, I bought Final Cut immediately. Then, on another life changing occasion, I popped into the local Turtles while waiting to pick up my sisters. I bought The Dark Side of the Moon. I drove around listening to the album (on cassette mind you) through the backroads of east Georgia, many dark and unfamiliar places. With that soundtrack in those environs, the album scared the hell out of me. I was in love with the music but so overwhelmed by the themes and the power of the sound.
Well here we are, years later and Floyd is still my favorite band of all time. No other band has communicated my personal angst and dissatisfaction with life in quite the same way. And no band has made me happier (in that existential sort of vein that only Pink Floyd can provide). It comes as no surprise that many artists and bands have found inspiration from Pink Floyd. Whether it was the sweeping epic grandeur of their space rock journeys, or the angry tones of their political rhetoric, Floyd have sent wave after wave of musicians into the depths of the psyche and the far out reaches of the galaxy. It is with this in mind that for this episode, we allow many of those musicians to come to light for their contribution to Pink Floyd as a genre of music.
As always, many gems fell to the floor as we were grabbing the goodies not the least of which were Airbag, and Mostly Autumn. Nevertheless, I think we were able to offer an interesting and perhaps lesser known batch of Floydian explorations. I pray that you enjoy the journey and I look forward to when we all meet again, some sunny day.

One of my favorite aspects of the creative process of developing themed shows for Soundscape is the notion that our favorite music can be viewed from so many different angles. We can look at thematic content in the narratives of the music, styles of music, and even particular instruments. Perhaps one of the most important instruments to my listening experience (although I could make an argument for many) has been the keys. Whether it was synth, moog, piano or organ, keyboards have always fascinated me. It is such a versatile apparatus for building incredible soundscapes, and in the hands of a master the keyboard can take us anywhere we want to go. So this week, we pay homage to those who tickle the ivories, or in the case of some players violently abuse them. Come join us for arpegiatic walks, and dissonant delving, as we journey through the world of the keyboard. This week the keys have it.
The Keys Have It
Due to perhaps faulty planning on my part, this years Halloween episode appears to have a lot of the same music as last year. That is not to say that it does not have some new material, or that it lacks redeeming value, only to say that if you are looking for a completely new journey, you may not get what you were looking for. I enjoyed the set up and play of this show, but as you may know, finding new ways of expressing Halloween is getting harder as the years go by. Tell your favorite artists to deliver a new bevy of Halloween goodness next year ok. Anyway, here it is, have at it!
Happy Halloween- may you find that for which you seek at the thinning of the veils.
Another Halloween
Sometimes, the theme or direction of a show just does not gel quickly but when it does it takes a form and shape of its own. Sometimes that theme is easy to dethread from the tangle of prog rock and others just drop in unannounced and sometimes unwanted. This episode took a number of strange turns. I found myself with a pile of good music that was calling to be played, and then the theme of moving from darkness and fear into a place of joy and abandon came forth. So if there is a narrative to be found, it centers on that notion. The addition of the spacey music and journeys into the wild blue yonder are perhaps the personal carryover of joy that presented itself. We take it as it comes. Hopefully the world of the music will unfold to you in its own way. Happy journeys.
Scrambling for Light
Hi guys,
The Beatles have always been in my misocal genetics, and they also infiltrate prog on a regular basis. My son had suggested a Beatles show. Beatles are probably the one piece of music that he agrees on with Suzi and I. So the idea came up that we should do a show of Beatle Prog. We have used this theme before back when we were on The Dividing Line, but it has not come up here at Progrock. So that's the theme set of this show. You will also find a mix of newer music, and a perfect album side as well.
If you feel you have what it takes, and you want to create a perfect album side, drop us a line soundscape@progrock.com providing us with 45 minutes of music that you have handpicked from the fields of your mind and we will accept your mighty harvest and distribute among the proggies like loaves and fishes...this metaphor just ran away, sorry. Anyway, write us.

The Return
Hello there,
It's been about 1 month since this show aired. The challenge came when I found it was full of editing gaps. Well I believe I have it mostly stitched together. So here it is episode 2.72. It is a mixed bag comprised of new music, continued 2017 reminisence and opera prog- that's right opera prog. For those that are worried about this statement, fear not, it is simply some prog dipped in opera sauce. Thanks for listening.
Soundscape 2.72 Opera Prog
Yet another journey into the best stuff from 2017. Its part 2 of a series. Had a good time, played some good music, but we still have more to come.
Further adventures spelunking 2017
Lets face it, 2017 was a phenomenal year for the music we love. In every hidden shadow underneath every rock, there is a new and talented progressive rock band waiting to bud forth and spread its message. So it should be no surprise that we had to break things up into 2 episodes. Also we won't be rating things, because how could you do such a thing. It's all great. That said, here is the first setlist.

Sometimes with all of the changes going on in our lives we need a breath of fresh air. That is what we are offering this week as we present an episode of all new music. With the current trends in progressive rock and the growing body of talented musicians out there in progland, it's often very hard to keep up with it all. Take a listen and be temporarily in the know.
Coming soon, a guide to our favorites from 2017.
A Short Trip Into Now
This time around, in our beautiful turn back time machine, we look at the year 2007. Yes we will finally reach 2017 before Summer lol.
Prog of 2017
Well, we are a few days late getting this thing out, but the music is still just as good. We start with a healthy dose of Sunday morning prog, then build up to some new stuff and heavier material. This was a brief respite from our slow cascading review of years gone by, but next week we will again plumb the depths, investigating the year 2007.
There are a few glitches here, a couple of spaces of dead air, but bear with it. Your patience at these moments will pay off.
Anyway, happy spring and keep moving forward!
Yes 1997 was a good year for progressive rock. We did not play it all, and that is a bit sad, but with so many offerings it was almost impossible to pare it down to anything sensible. Nevertheless, I made a go of it.
Next time we travel through time we will be seeing the music of 2007. That may be next episode, it may not. We also have a request from Brandon to do a Beatleesque show, and we would like to bring our friends Mike and Liz back for something a little more spontaneous. We will spin the wheel and see what happens. Nevertheless, we will be back in 2 weeks.
1997
This time around we explore the year 1987 as we ramp up to the best of 2017. Prog was not much of an overflowing cup in 1987 but what there was you will find here. Despite the lack of prog, I remember 1987 well and as this show will make clear, there was a lot of good music emerging at the time. 1987 is not quite the death throes of new wave but perhaps the luster lost some of its shine, while other bands remained true to their vision. At any rate, there is something here for all fans of music.
Best of 1987:
Back to 2018
Closing
Last year we began a new tradition. Not only would we look back at the year, but we would go back decades before in order to carve a swath through prog development. We are doing this again this year. We start with a review of 1977. It was incredibly hard to pick favorites, and for the most part I daresay we brought more of the obscure out of the year, but we uncovered hidden gems, and offered a taste of the music that was being released in 1977.
Journey Through 1977
Hey guys,
Christmas has come and gone, but here at Soundscape we are helping you extend the holiday by providing you with even more Christmas music. (Like a cat who meant to fall off the table and then starts cleaning themselves- I have stuck the landing). What we have here for you is a mostly Christmas oriented show that we did on Christmas eve. We hope your holiday season was merry and bright.
Later this week we will post an archive show, and then we will return on the 21st with our Best of 1977 retrospective. The goal is to ramp up to the best of 2017 a decade at a time. The next 4 episodes will be history shows.
Soundscape 2.63 Christmas in Soundscape
This show aired before the death of our dear friend Colin Tench. We will take some time in the next episode to memorialize him. It was a shock to lose Colin and we are sorry to say goodbye.
This is episode 2.26 so I believe it is a 2 years ago Christmas episode. That happened during the release of The Force Awakens. It may not be the best Star Wars episode we have done...that may even be somewhere in the future, but it at least ties our holidays together.
Happy Sithmas!
Woody & Suzi
I initally started with a set of music that was about being thankful, but that was not the prog I was thankful for. So instead I opted for a theme that was full of upbeat messages and tunes. I wanted the antithesis of the bleeding heart angst show we did last time around. I think you will find that we sculpted a pretty incredible mix of music, complete with some newer pieces to insure we are keeping our feet in the future and the past. So this Thanksgiving, I am thankful for all the amazing musicians who direct our attention into the musical crags and peaks of the soundscape. I am also thankful for the listeners here who heave been with us for 12 years or have just started the journey. In the midst of all this thankfulness, I am thankful to be working my way to fatherhood, and of course I am thankful for Suzi who suports me in this crazy life journey.
Next time around, we will have a library episode inspired by Isaac Asimov. I am really looking forward to that research, though to be honest, I think I have only ever read short stories and The Robots of Dawn. Well, if you have suggestions please send them to soundscape@progrock.com We will gladly accept your input.
Happy Progsgiving
Its a simple enough theme, yours truly succumbs to a weakness that is portrayed throught the guise of the song. As your humble DJ and Soundscape propeitor is on the verge of turning 50, having a child, stressed out from work, and getting ready for a presentationm the music herein mirrors that mood. Angst, anxiety, dread, fear and frustration, all are laid bare in this rather autobiographical moment. Nevertheless, the prog must flow and if you care to dip into the pool, its not as dark as it may sound and it does have a happy ending of sorts.
More to come in the next episode. Send perfect album sides to soundscape@progrock.com
Todays archive comes from 2008. I was actually looking for an episode devoted to James Bond but discovered that I already put the Bond archive up last year, So if you want that one, you can find it here in feed. So instead, I grabbed an archive from 2008. It was our 106th show. This one was a library episode featuring a focus on Arthur C Clarke. As our show is getting older, it's getting harder to find material for these literary shows. Nevertheless I always thought we did a good job with this one. This Sunday, we will present a shorter show and we will be on an hour early. It will probably be a seat of the pants sort of show. Thanks for listening, Woody
This will be the 12th Halloween episode that Soundscape has done. Each year we try to identify the spooky and surreal sounds that will haunt us over the fall season. This year, theme originally revolved around monsters and demons. However, it took on a life of it's own as many episodes do. The outcome is just a nice collection of spooky songs and eerie content. We hope you will enjoy this little adventure.
We will return on Nov 12th. I expect there will be another archive provided before that time. If you wish to contact us, we can be reached at soundscape@progrock.com

In the busy world of podcasting, I don't often get to do a lot of preparation for a show, so when I do, I am generally more proud of the work. This is one of those episodes. The show is about finding reference to Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, Hitchcock and NIght Gallery in the world of prog. This was an incredibly fun show to do. I hope you will enjoy this archival show from 2 years ago.
I am still putting the finishing touches on last Sundays show but don't worry, the newest episode will be up soon. Also, keep those perfect album sides coming. Send them to soundscape@progrock.comÂ
Cheers,

I have no idea if this is one of the better Halloween shows or not, but we have done one every year since we started this crazy journey. This one comes from 2013. In the next few weeks, we will add some old Halloween episodes to get you primed for the season. Our Halloween show wfor this year will be coming up very soon. Enjoy the ride, and as always please let us know you are out there listening to us. Feedback helps us know that we are providing a quality program. When we moved from Dividingline, we lost a very large cadre of listeners. We did what we could to grab those people for the transition, but many just did not make the move with us. If you enjoy our show, it would go a log ways for us if you rated us on Itunes, told your friends, and generally spread the word. Your sponsorship is greatly appreciated.
Happy October,
Woody
Greetings Fellow Proglodytes,
As autumn comes creeping round the corner, Soundscape gets busy again. This time around we are delivering up music that either discusses or reflects the experience of the amusement or theme park. Newer music weaves nicely with more classic tunes to deliver what we hope will be an enjoyable musical ride.
Thanks so much for listening. We would love to hear your feedback and get in your requests and perfect album sides. Please send correspondence to soundscape@progrock.com

Hey folks,
Here it is, the newest Soundscape episode. You will note some minor fuzz in the start but once that clears we are golden. This marks the inauguration of new equipment for Soundscape and hopefully a much clearer listening experience. It took some fiddling and some funds, but we are very happy with the result and we believe that you will be as well.
Joining us in this musical adventure are good friends Mike and Liz who have been listening on and off since we were at Dividingline, and our friend and sound gurum as well as a masterful musician, CS Brown is with us for the show as well. We give him a smattering of show time to highlight his upcoming album "Galaxies" which will be an all instrumental journey into the cosmos. You can check out music by Mr. Brown at www.csbrownmusic.com
As we head into the fall, we have several great shows lined up for you. And for the most part we will be broadcasting every 2 weeks again. Keep your perfect album sides coming. Send them and all correspondence to soundscape@progrock.com

Good News Everyone!
We have new sound equipment, and this weekend we will be working with our good friend C.S. Brown to get the sound in the soundscape again. The plan is to be on the air this Sunday. Outside of some new natural disaster, we should be able to get back on the road so to speak.
In the meantime, this month we are celebrating 2 years at Progrock.com. So here then is the very first episode we did for Progrock back in September of 2015. It was a good start to our new digs and I think you will all enjoy it, even the second time around.
We look forward to getting things underway againm hope to see you this Sunday in chat. We will go on at 9:30 CST.Â
Last weekend, as we tried to present a live broadcast, the computer's soundcard, gave up the ghost. What was going to be a tremendously enjoyable show got canned. It was heartbreaking. The mood in the Soundscape studio was one of feeling jilted. We had to cancel the podcast.
The good news is, that our friend Chris, a musician and sound engineer, is going to help us get the perfect setup for podcasting and sound so that we can get to broadcasting quickly. I will post pictures once we get things set up. Nevertheless, we should be back in a month with a cleaner crisper sound.
In the meantime, I am going to offer some archives. As I can't presently listen to anything on the computer, I have not had a chance to listen, and I can't even say I remembered this show. Nevertheless this show is a show about trees and it comes to us from June of 2014. Let me know what you think.
Best wishes,
Woody
The summer has been a wonderfully busy time for us here at Soundscape. We have spent a lot of time galivanting around, playing games, and getting ready to adopt a child. These are all good things and I feel wonderfully blessed to have spent my summer doing things I love. However, we have not been able to keep Soundscape up and running very often. So this episode is to say, fear not, we have not forgooten or foresaken all you wonderful prog fans.
So I have called this episode "At a Siding", as it feels the journey of summer has been very much in need of a respite. This show is more of a respite from the rigors of trying to make the Soundscape brand. I ditched theme, and contrived playlists in this show to really dig into some of the newer stuff and to take a break from the theming. It was nice and relaxing to have that sort of show, one that grew spontaneously out of the moment as it presented itself. There is something to be said for this sort of impulsive play, so we may make it a more regular part of the show. However we will not abandon theming. The nice thing about theming is it hones down the breadth of material, makes us look at one particular area of the vast swath of music available, and ultimatley can create some really wonderful moments of discovery. That said we will return to our previously planned prog metal show in the very near future.
For now, drop into a rather amazing set of new tunes, requests, and meaningful departures.
Send us your perfect album sides. You know the drill soundscape@progrock.com
I don't actually know when this episode first appeared, only that I enjoyed it immensely. There was some great listener communication and support from folks over at Progarchives and the show just felt...good. The shows theme was music that makes us feel like we are in a city...and it does just that I believe.
We are out a good bit of the summer due to vacation plans and time away from home but please know that we will return soon. Until that time we will be presenting archival episodes. When we do return we will have a prog metal theme. I am excited about this one as I have not spent a lot of time with newer prog metal.
Anyway, my best to you all. Hope you are having an amazing summer.
Cheers,
Woody
We recently had an amazing trip to Scotland, so this episode is filled with Scottish musicians and sounds. We also offer a bevy of new music and a short tribute to the one and only Greg Allman.
Summer is weirding the schedule, but we will have another archival show in the next 2 weeks to tide you over til our return. The next theme will be prog metal from 2000 to now. I wanted to veer away from the early days of prog metal and get into the newer stuff. Perhaps it should even be 2010 forward just to be more limited.
Send questions, comments, and of course perfect album sides to soundscape@progrock .com Soundscape has been through so many transitions and we have lost many along the way, help us build our audience by letting others know about us. Your bumbling DJ thanks you.

After so much time on Trains in Scotland, I though a return to this show would be fun. Train songs are very common in all forms of musicm and why not. The engine and the wheels beat a rhythm. One young man on the train made beats from the train and began drumming along. There is this huge romance about trains. They are a very elegant form of transport and it is too bad that we here in America have abandoned this for the autonomy of the auto.
At any rate this old show comes from when we were at The Dividingline. In my memory, it was one of my favorite shows. Maybe it will be yours as well.
Next weekend we retrun to the air with music from Scotland.

Hi Guys,
The next couple of shows will be archives as Suzi and I are out seeing the universe on just a few Altarian dollars a day.
This one was requested by a couple of people. Well there is only 10-15 of you guys who listen by podcast anyway. In the old days, the Soundscape empire was much bigger. Please go forth and spread the word.
Anyway, the episode here is about Mars. This episode was aired back in November of 2010. In my old age, I thought it was a show about Ray Bradbury, but it turns out that while Bradbury is included, it is in fact more about Mars.
This episode comes from the time when Soundscape was on The Dividing Line Broadcast Network- still a fine place for prog and I highly suggest that you check them out when you get an opportunity.
Let us know how you like the show by sending your email and perfect album sides to: soundscape@progrock.com
Hi Soundscaper,
What we have for you today is one of our library episodes. The original idea was to create the prog equivalent of a poetry omnibus. You know, one of those big compendiums that catches all of the famous poetry and it eventually sits on your coffee table. There is actually quite a lot of prog that uses famous poetry but not every band can do it justice. What I hope I have achieved here is a fair mix of some of the best moments between poetry and prog. You will at least here from the most famous poets like Byron, Shelley, Keats, Yeats, Wordsworth and many others. Personally, I found it to be a very enjoyable journey. I hope you will too.
We also returned with our normal format of giving you new music, as well as a perfect album side that will take you backwards down the number line. All in all a fine show to listen to as you run throught your busy week.
The next Sunday show is scheduled for Mother's Day. That said, I am not sure that we will be here. If not we will put some archival show up. We have had a request for the Arthur C Clarke show for a bit as well as the Ray Bradbury show. One of these will makes its way into the mix very soon. Here are some other upcoming themes: Prog Metal from the last decade, Perfect album side show, Scottish Prog, Civil War, Best Lyrics, Socialism (or potentially styles of government), Jules Verne, and Shakespeare. So there is no lack of creative ideas flowing from the dripping pen.

Hey gang,
Here we have a very small smattering of what made 2016 a good year in prog. It was a good year. The editing was painful as I removed some very good stuff. Nevertheless, what stands is worth your time.
In 2 weeks, we will return to themed shows, perfect album sides, and newer music. Our next theme will be a sampler of poetry in prog. You remember in high school or college there were those big think anthologies of poetry. We are going to find connections to famour poets within some of our favorite music. We plan to get our words worth of the roads less traveled, and visit the loves of Poe and Shakespeare. Who knows where the load may lead us, only a fool would say. It should be a fun trip down an unexpected chasm. Drop us a line on our facebook feed if you have any input. Our email is still having some trouble so message us on Facebook and we will hear you.

As we continue our journey forward, this week we offer a trip into 2006. I am continually amazed that after all these years, there remains new music to discover. Due to the rather amazing breadth of the music available in the world and being developed around us every day, I don't think the well is going to ever dry up. Maybe when we get to 2112 it will be oulawed but for today, we are in a time of overwhelming treasure when it comes to music, even that illusive beast called Prog.
If you have not been following us on our page on facebook, please drop by for a continuation of our exploration, take a daily vacation with our feed of progification. Yeah the rhyme got out of hand but you get the picture. The facebook page is facebook.com/soundscape42
Next time, we will finally find our way to 2016. It has been a long journey, but the whole point of the trip was to take a look back before looking at the present. It's been a lot of fun, but after this next one, we will return to our themes with a literary show. Should be a lot of fun,
Another Trip Back: 2006
As part of our rather slow build to the best of 2016, this week we feature music from 1996. At this point in time, the world was mostly paying attention to alternative rock like Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. Your humble DJ here was Djing on college radio his folk and blugrass show, "The Appalaichian Trail". I had 50,000 watts of power for 2 hours a week. Progressive rock continued in the underbelly of the media beast. Many of our favorite bands were cementing themselves into the progressive rock landscape. Soundscape was only just being born.
I did take the idea of Soundscape to my boss at the college station but he was adamant that we could not have a rock show. That's ok, because when Soundscape was finally born, it took me on a deeper journey than it ever would have at the college station.
The journey through 1996 has been full of nostalgia and discovery. Perhaps this will be true for you as well. We would love to hear about what you guys were doing in 1996. Drop on by our Facebook group: facebook.com/soundscape42 and let us know. We can also be followed on twitter. We are @SoundscapeDJ.
Next show will be live in 2 weeks. We will get closer to our destination as we reach back to 2006. Let us know your favorites from this year.

Well Hello there fellow proggy compatriots. This week we have another archival gem for you. This was aired back in 2007 when we were on The Dividing Line. The show is a quick perusal of drums in progressive rock music. With so many great options it was not an easy show to put together. Now here we are 9 years later and the show would be much different I imagine. This is probably a theme we should return to in the near future.
We will return on Sunday the 19th to peruse the best prog of 1996 and 2006 as we ramp our way to the best of 2016 show. In the meantime, if you have not checked out our facebook page, we have been posting lots of flotsam lost from the 76 and 86 shows. We would love for you to check it out. We can also be reached via twitter @soundscapedj and email: soundscape@progrock.com
Thanks for listening.
The idea of running back 4 decades sounded like a good one. I have always wanted to be able to try and delve so deep into the music that I could follow a thread across the years. Not an easy task but perhaps some day I will be able to do this with smaller structures. A friend suggested to use counterpoint as the starting space. It would be worthwhile to try it but that is for another time. This time around and the follow up shows we are looking at swaths of time 40,30, 20, and 10 years ago. All this leads up to our 2016 special. Hopefully our deep dives are worth your effort.
For my musical bang as the DJ, the shows that are worth the most are the ones in which I learn about something that I did not previously know about. This show is chocked full of those moments while still allowing a focus on what I would deem to be the best stuff from 1976 and 1986. For my part I found it to be very enjoyable and I hope you guys will as well.
We have been having some email hangups and I hope to have that rectified soon. However, you can reach us at soundscape@progrock.com Twitter is @soundscapedj and we are also on Facebook.

And to send you home:
This week we have another archived episode for you from the Dividingline days. This one comes from 2008. Soundscape has been on the podcast airwaves for a while. In the initial series this was episode 103, so approximately 2 years into our time at The Dividing Line Broadcast Network. I picked this one because it was a lot of fun. Knowing what I know now, I could do a better job of finding more bluesy prog but back then, I was a little green in the ways of the prog. That means that this show, while having a lot of prog with blues mixed in, it also has a lot of blues that might be progressive. Nevertheless, I think the show stands up and could be worth your attention. This was back when we had to record in ogg and convert later to mp3. As such there may be some minor distortions. We hope you enjoy this history lesson in Soundscape.
In 2 weeks we will take a tour through time as we play the best of 1976, 1986, 1996, and 2006. This is all prep work for our best of 2016 show which will be coming up in March.
Wishing you a progtastic week!
Hello fellow Soundscapers,
Here we are again with another inspired episode. This time our station boss and good friend Mark Monforti suggested we do a theme featuring music with Glockenspiel. So never one to back down from a good challenge, that is what you have here. There are 4 sets devoted to the theme, as well as some awesome live stuff, Suzi's corner, and a host of new material for you to check out. To be honest, the show was quite a lot of fun, and I believe that we have identified some of the challenges in our sound. There are still improvements to be made but we are pleased with the outcome.
The next show will be aired on 2/19. In that episode we will peruse history as we play the nest of 1976, 1986, 1996 and 2006. We are ramping up to the best of show and we want to pay homage to our past first. In the meantime, sometime next week we will release an archival episode just to keep you grooving for the next 2 weeks.
As always, we are looking for perfect album sides. All you need to do is compose a list of 45 minutes worth of great prog music (or whatever else you feel deserves a listen) and send it to soundscape@progrock.com We will then add it to our collective prog cube and friends across the globe will be listening to your set. Our favorite is when your perfect album sides turn us on to something we missed along the way. Please send us your list, we want to hear from you.

Welcome to 2017. We hope that it will be a year of growth for Soundscape. Unfortunately with all of the changes to our podcast and a rather intermiitent schedule we left some people behind. That is really unfortunate but hoefully in the new year we will find them again. For those of you still with us, thank for listening. It means a lot to us that you have continued with us. We hope to continue providing this podcast in 2017 with renewed vigor.
There is a rather loose theme in this episode. I made the setlist with the following thoughts in mind; new year, anxiety and fear, and hope. 2016 offered a lot to be thankful for, but there was also more gnashing of teeth and nationwide division than I have ever witnessed. Given my concerns, I am strangely optimistic about the year that approaches. I am optimistic because I think the bumbles of our new leaders are going to force us as a nation to recognize our own power as people. I don't think the change will come from the top, I think it will come from the revolution that happens as we open our eyes and see what is going on. We will be compelled to find our own voices and to speak out about inequities and challenges. We will not take the bickering nature of our government officials as an example of how to live, rather we will come together and develop more patience with one another and look for ways to build bridges where there were previously none. It is my prediction that, if we are a nation to be proud of, if we are a people that really do come together in the face of adversity, we will do so more obviously in the face of the radical shifts that our elected leaders want to impose upon us. I don't think that is what this new government should do, but I do believe that this will be what it is like for the next 4 years. I believe that the majority of Americans are good hearted people. A few may need to be called on their shit, but by and large, we will be given the opportunity to show our true colors. It is my hope that hands cannot erase this love, but I will protest and call attention to the acts of indecent behavior I see, I hope you guys will as well.
So there you have it; Soundscape welcomes the new year with hope, a short political post, and some wonderful music to stir your heart and feet. You can reach us by sending email to soundscape@progrock.com On Twitter we are @SoundscapeDJ and on Facebook you can find us on the Soundscape page where we post more regularly than anywhere else. Please send us feedback, perfect album sides, and requests.

Thanks for listening- we love you guys.
This holiday season we bring you the gift of history, an episode of Soundscape from our days at The Dividing Line in 2011. This is another way of saying we want you to have a Christmas show, but our schedule has been thrown off by the holiday schedule. We will return soon though. I am not certain how Soundscape is suddenly falling on all the holidays but hopefully in the future this will right itself. The plan is to ring in the new year with a fun and floydy show and eventually get to our year in review. With so much good music, it will take some time to determine what was best.
If you need to reach us, we are here: soundscape@progrock.com and @SoundscapeDJ on twitter.
As always we hope you all have a wonderful Christmas holiday and look forward to putting another show together soon.
Cheers,
Woody & Suzi
It's Christmas time right? But it is also Bond Season. Thanks to a long tradition of cable TV showing Bond after Thanksgiving, I have 2 years ago. We had just started working with Progrock.com so perhaps there were sound problems, but the show was fantastic. This is one of several shows we have done on Bond over the years. Maybe next year we will put out some older ones. For now though, sit back and enjoy this very special journey into the world of James Bond and prog.
We will not be on the air this weekend due to our annual pilgrimage to the Warren Haynes Christmas Jam in Asheville NC. However, we will be back on the 18th with a Christmas show of fun and frivolity. Thanks for making our broadcasts part of your life. We could not do this without our listeners. Also if you liike our show- share it on facebook, rate us on Itunes, make comments on the page. We love getting feedback and it helps us to feel we are not out here in a vacuum.
See you all soon,
Woody & Suzi
Hey guys,
The theme here is music about stages of life. The show was originally planned to be a 4 hour show, but we had to some editing. As such, adulthood to old age will seem very fast paced. Nevertheless, I think the nature of the thing still came through. Hopefully, it will be a journey of good music and self reflection.
Next time around we celebrate the return of the light. We will not be broadcasting at our normal time as we will be out of town for our annual pilgrimage to Asheville for the Warren Haynes Christmas Jam. If we could take you guys with us we would, but we will try to bring music back from our quest. So, stay tuned to our facebook and twitter pages for details on the when.
Also, as it is Bond season, we will be reuploading last years Bond show (previously available on the old podcast platform).
Here is this show's setlist:
One of the most important visions I had for Soundscape was that it would provide a well crafted pastiche of music that allows musical travel. Now originally this episode was supposed to be about traveling, but the moods of the moment and the winds of change sometimes put fickle turns on inspiration. As such what we have for you this week is a gethering of music to allow that musical travel to unfold. Mostly the show is full of epic prog with some minor transitional moments. At any rate it was a lot of fun to craft and we hope you enjoy this journey.
We will return Thanksgiving weekend for yet another Soundscape Journey. Until then keep the music within you alive, share the things you love, and let your lovelight shine.
Greeting my stalwart listeners and minions, We have a special archival episode to offer today. This one is a Halloween episode from 2009. During this time we were on the Dividingline Broadcast network. This is still a wonderful place for you to go and get great progressive rock podcasts. You can check out the station at www.thedividingline.com
I am a little embarrassed to find that music that I thought was newly original for Halloween in some years was repeats from previous years, nevertheless there is a host of wonderful tunes here complete with our usual set of garage DJ gaffs and total bumbling nonsense. Back then, just getting a show on the air seemed to be a feat of genius. The equipment was not as reliable, and we used a wholly different broadcast interface. Still I think you will enjoy this blast from the past and look forward to hearing your thoughts.
Soundscape proper will return in 2 weeks with a proper episode. In the next show we will feature soundscapes of traveling and journeying off into wild unknown places.
Thanks for taking this ride with us and Happy Halloween!
Welcome to episode #43 of the new Soundscape on Progrock.com
Soundscape has been rolling through the years since about Feb. 2004 or 5. It's been so long we are not even sure of the exact years anymore. Nevertheless, we have in the 12 or so years we have run this show, provided a spooky soundtrack for your Halloween and this year is no exception. The challenges every year is to deliver something new for those who have been with us since the early days. Typically however, we will also release one of the older episodes in order to give everyone an opportunity to grab some of the past. This year did not have a special theme except that we were looking to create some spooky and creepy sounds. Hopefully that is what you are getting.
Please bear with us as we make a transition to a new server and webpage. For now our future is in Podbean. This will allow us to provide shows quicker and it will also result in us being able to provide archival episodes. Additional changes will be coming as make the transition but we are certain that you are going to be happy with the outcome.

This weeks Soundscape takes you on a trip on the rails. There are so many songs about trains that it almost deserves it's own genre. Nevertheless, we have put together a grouping of train songs that we feel truly embed the feeling of train culture. We also offer our usual gathering of new stuff, kitsch, and a perfect album side. I think you will all agree that we are On Track again. Soundscape will return in 2 weeks. If you would like to send us a message you can send
