Roxanne de Bastion Live

The InBrighton Live Music Sessions show on RadioReverb from Saturday 22nd March 2014 on RadioReverb in Brighton UK

Based in London, but a regular visitor to Brighton, this singer/songwriter creates beautiful vocals and original tunes which she accompanies here with guitar fingerpicking. Looking back to the 60's and the great innovators like Joni Mitchel and Bob Dylan, she is also seeing further along her own musical directions. The Beautiful Word and Kathleen Batista live

2 live sessions on InBrighton Live on Sat 1 March 2014 on RadioReverb - direct from Brighton UK

From 27 minutes into the show: Magical Mystery Pop from underground sensations The Beautiful Word - experimental, electric, acoustic, tuneful and soundscapey! With great singing. Like the Velvet Underground; not to be easily classified - and definitely never say the T**e word! ! here in a partly unplugged stylee, and without bassist but still conjuring up some sound spells live in our tiny studio

Pre-ceeded - from the beginning of the show, by a solo acousitc set from Brighton based singer/songwriter (and multi-instrumentalist) Kathleen Battista (aka Kath!) . With another lady on vocals, she has an online project called Shake The Skyeline where she plays everything to make loud rock and noise music (One track is included at about 23 minutes in). Here she brings us her melodic musings on life, with guitar acompaniment. Her singing is very listen-to-able and real despite her modesty in that regard

Flok (the return of..)

The InBrighton Live show from Saturday 14th February 2014 on RadioReverb from Brighton in the UK

Although a recent visitor to the studio, Flok flew (metaphorically?) back this way for another live session. This was to celebrate a headline gig at The Latest music bar in Brighton. Sadly one member was blown off course and they are here playing as a duo, without Matt the drummer. The full band create a surpisingly funky folk rock sound, with just acoustic guitar, vocals and drums. This session showcases the vocal inspiration of Alex and Danny's guitar - strumming up some magic with their orgiginal tunes and arrangements - watch the skies for more ...

Brian McNamara Live Session

Live Session on the InBrighton Live music show from Saturday 14 February 2014 - on RadioReverb - radio from the heart of Brighton, UK

Brian McNamara, better known as songwriter and front man for Brighton band; Warsaw Radio, is here solo, with guitar. With an orginal sound and poetic lyrics, he could be compared to Dylan or an accoustic Bruce Springsteen. But his haunting tunes and dynamic vocals are very much his own

Caitlin Stubs and Paul Murray - 2 Live Sessions

Live Sessions on the InBrighton Live music show from Saturday 8 February - on RadioReverb - radio from the heart of Brighton, UK

Caitlin Stubbs, in a live session here, with just her guitar ( she is also a brilliant piano player ), has been a part of the Brighton music scene from the age of 14 as a solo singer/songwriter and over her time of performing has developed a much more dynamic sound. Her folky tones and truthful lyrics are enhanced on her studio recordings, by an eclectic backline of drums, trumpet and cello. Her main influences are her grandpa – the pacifist beat poet; Adrian Mitchell alongside Woody Guthrie, Billy Bragg, Pete Seeger and Joni Mitchell - 'sounds also like Ellie Goulding without the electric trickery! '

Paul Murray is a singer songwriter based in Brighton. Another early starter, he has been playing for nearly ten years and gigging for most of them. Paul plays a combination of folk, indie and blues with harder rock guitar playing techniques at times. His lyrics point out the large and small irritations and wonders of the world around him

Echo & The Beats Live

Live Session on the InBrighton Live music show from Saturday 25 January on RadioReverb - radio from the heart of Brighton, UK

Here, in an unplugged, accoustic set, and without brilliant drummer Weezey Jaye, are Echo and The Beats. - Based in Brighton, ( tho some are from other parts! ) , "This young and experimental 4 piece are looking to push the boundaries of modern music, sticking their middle fingers up to the government. Yet to be placed into a genre, these guys mix up punk and ska, throw a bit of mod in there, give it a cheeky dose of spoken word and then scream .." I feel there is also some sort of Prog Rock fusion in there too, adding a spacey dimension to the sound

Kokopelli

The InBrighton Live show from Saturday 2nd November 2013 on RadioReverb, Community Radio for Brighton and Hove, UK

In Hopi mythology, Kokopelli was the God of fertility, often depicted with a humpback and playing the flute. Thankfully, neither of the ladies that make up the band Kokopelli fit such a description. Bo Lucas and Hayleigh King concentrate on sultry, seductive interplay between guitar and vocals. Weeping slide guitar by Hayleigh perfectly compliments the country tinged blues that exude from songstress Bo. Absolutely worth catching at one of their many gigs around London and Brighton, and not to be missed in smaller, intimate venues where the passion of the songs really comes alive. They are Hayley King guitar and vocals and Bo Lucas lead vocals

Kick back with their 4 track EP, guaranteed to put you into a content coma of bluesy serenity

Liz Ikamba Live Session

The InBrighton Live music sessions show from Saturday 26th October 2013 on RadioReverb - Community Radio For Brighton and Hove - UK

Soul, Folk, Roots, World, Jazz are how Brighton based Liz Ikamba describes her music - here she is in a live session with just her guitar to accompany herself. With a voice that is reminiscent of Joan Armatrading ( I think ) in a good way , this is original poetic soul music that you should hear.

Brighton based singer/songwriter and ace guitarist, Ian Roland brings his distinctive and uplifting songs to the airwaves in Brighton on this live session. He says these are ' tunes about song birds, not losing yourself, and a high-wire trapeze act called Annie ' and that he sounds like 'Elliot Smith, Tunng, Iron and Wine, Fleet Foxes, Cat Stevens ' but I think he has his own original sound

Live in the studio for the broadcast -

Sarah Swire (from the start of the show), originally from Canada, studied music for 3 years at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. She has written songs since the age of 12. Emotional lyrics and dynamic vocals are driven along by her rhythmical folk and blues guitar tunes. Luckily for us she is moving to Brighton in September

Zoe Hazel, (from 35 minutes into the show) now living in Brighton, was born in Scotland but lived in Catalonia in Spain since she was 3. Here she is, sharing a few words and melodies that come to her while looking and watching this peculiar world go round. Sophisticated melodies weaving among guitar and vocal harmonies.
