Dance with me a little closer And I'll tell you and I'll show you what's in store
I'm not looking for anything long term But tonight I, I am looking to be yours
This is how it's going to be Can you feel the heat from me, yeah I don't want to wait and see Do a number Do a number on me
I've got everything you need You can have your way with me, yeah Make me quiver Make me cry Do a number on me
And if we meet again tomorrow Then I might ask you your name
I can be your fantasy Come on baby do a number on me
Things might get a little crazy So get ready, cause I'm ready to cross the line
Love love love love love Isn't really, really isn't, on my mind
This is how it's going to be Can you feel the heat from me, yeah I don't want to wait and see Do a number Do a number on me
I've got everything you need You can have your way with me, yeah Make me quiver Make me cry Do a number on me
And if we meet again tomorrow Then I might tell you my name
I can be your fantasy Come on baby do a number on me
And if we meet again tomorrow Then I won't forget your name
I can be your fantasy Come on baby do a number on me
Do a number
Tell me some lies When I look in your eyes Make me hope that it's different with you
I can be your fantasy Come on baby do a number on me

LYRICS: Guess it started with a bottle I lost track of time And I stumbled out into the night
I was fighting with somebody He was twenty times bigger than me Ran away with a punch in the nose
Before this night is over If I'm somehow not dead Then you will hear me crying
I'm sorry, tomorrow There were things I said I shouldn't have said There were things I did I shouldn't have did I'm sorry, tomorrow, oh It is times like this I hope and I pray That I will forget what I did today Please forgive me I'm sorry, tomorrow
Well it seems I met a lady And it also seems I forgot about my beautiful wife
We were getting kinda busy Then she robbed me of all of my money And she ran off With all of my clothes
I've got mouths to feed and bills to pay Am I destined for a hard life til the end? Well I have to say I'm so sorry yesterday For the promises that I made And how I absolutely failed To keep them once again But maybe I will tomorrow
Let me tell y'all something When the darkness is calling you Whether you drinking or blazing or whatever Try not to forget what happened to me So, until next time...
Throwback 30 years ago. Back in 1989 I was making a living doing software programming and sound design for a handful of musical keyboards and MIDI devices. And being that it was the 80's, my computer was a Commodore 64. I also occasionally would produce songs in my bedroom. This is one of them.
As best as I can recall, here's how that track came together:
GEAR: Commodore 64 with Steinberg Pro-16 (an early predecessor to Cubase) A C64 MIDI interface which I can't remember the name of now Yamaha TX81Z (a budget rackmount DX7 type synth) Alesis HR-16 drum machine Ensoniq EPS sampling keyboard Lexicon PCM-70 reverb A cheap Peavey mic Tascam 4-track cassette recorder Sony double-speed stereo cassette recorder A small analog non-pro 8-track mixer Jimm McIver on vocals
First I played the various instruments into the C-64 and programmed the drum part into the HR-16. Each individual note of every instrument would later be carefully tweaked and quantized using the Steinberg software.
I pre-recorded a time-code onto one of the four Tascam tracks. Later this would route into the HR-16, which would in turn send a MIDI clock to the C64, which triggered the Steinberg software to play the other MIDI instruments.
Next, I recorded 3 vocal tracks, first the lead vocal, then an octave harmony using 100% reverb, and on the final track, some back-masking which was trendy at the time. I believe Jimm said something like "This is Elvis, thank you very much".
The Tascam 4-track used DBX noise reduction which is responsible for the noticeable pumping.
On mixdown to a stereo cassette the C64 played the TX81Z, HR-16 and the EPS. I manned the mixer and after several passes I got a mix I liked.
This is a second generation copy of the mix, because it was recorded at normal speed and Dolby B noise reduction. The first generation was recorded at double speed with Dolby C, however that tape seems to have disappeared.
Just before uploading here I ran it through a noise gate and did some very light mastering.
As for the song itself, I dunno. It definitely reflects my musical interests at the time - Philip Glass and House music. I hear a bad note which I didn't hear at the time. That snare sounds very 80's to me. It's ok. I guess.
This was the last song I would record until Time Machine, 23 years later, in 2012.
With each victory I want one more I got here looking out for number one
Plant a seed in someones mind And soon there's a tree bearing fruit And they eat it all up for you
When the stocks are falling When all you have left is guns and or god That's when I come calling Looking for another round of applause
Power. Power. Power. Power. Power. Power.
Power! The power gets the money And the money gets the whores I want power! Yeah! You're a fool if you think you can stop me
If you even dare to question me Step right up Your ass will be handed back
With an army made of fifty some million men You will be ripped to shreds virtually Destroyed
All the bodies buried The surrounding hills have gone up in flames It was necessary Doesn't matter Black or white It's the same
Power. Power. Power. Power. Power. Power.
Power! The power gets the money And the money gets the whores I want power! Yeah! You're a fool if you think you can stop me
Power. Power. Power. Power. Power. Power.
Power!
On my days off I'm in the flower garden I'm planting lies If you will beg my pardon
Maybe I'll find there is beauty Maybe even love But what's the point of it? Power…
Power
The power gets the money And the money gets the whores
Why do we have to get along? It pays more if we don't!
They're coming for your women And they're coming for your jobs

She works at a Chinese takeaway She smiled at me yesterday I know she'd love a man like me Faithfully I took her picture then printed out A giant poster that's in my house I'm dreaming of her tonight
I don't know you I wish I did know you I wish I did know you I wish I did know you
Although I worry it isn't right I follow her home every night I guess she would be freaked out too If she knew I will be waiting for our first kiss And I'll eventually get my wish When someday she says to me
I don't know you I wish I did know you I wish I did know you I wish I did know you
All she really needs to do is go out on a date (She will be fine - I won't forget my meds this time) I can not imagine why she'd even hesitate I'm her fate
I don't know you I wish I did know you I wish I did know you I wish I did know you

Gazing out of my window I so often get carried away Hitch a ride on a cumulus cloud On the horizon I lay
He hardly even knew me He was the sun My sky was partly cloudy And he moved on
Blue sky Such a day can be so deceiving Any moment he could be leaving
Blue sky Take him out and then get to know him Hold him close or the wind will blow him Away
Gazing out of my window I so often get carried away Gazing out of my window I so often get carried away

Nobody listens to music anymore
Have a heart that never hardens It was the winter of despair To a young heart everything is fun It was the best of times It is a far far better thing That I do than I've ever done
Oh, nobody listens Nobody listens to music anymore No, nobody listens Nobody listens to music anymore
Preheat oven to 320 In a medium sized bowl whisk the flour, salt and spices well, and then set it aside Mix the sugar, butter, eggs, then add them to the flour mix
Oh, nobody listens to music anymore Nobody listens to music anymore
Where have you gone, imagination? But then again, why should I care? If I never even knew you There would be so much more that I could do Like watch cable TV and eat until death catches up with me
Oh, nobody listens Nobody listens to music anymore

I get lost in history Miracles, courage and splendor These tales live on forever and ever, and ever
You're the myth of modern days Beautiful, loving and tender All of my love I surrender Forever and ever, and ever, and ever
Such a small sliver of time for us to be Such a small sliver of time for us to be, oh... History's not just the past History's only what lasts
Run away with me my love Let's write our story together This moment we will remember Forever and ever, and ever, and ever, and ever, and ever, and ever, and ever, and ever, and ever, and ever, and ever, and ever, and ever, and ever, and ever

It's in the air Here in this crowded city It's everywhere And we can feel we're gonna Move to something more than music In the hours to come Don't you feel like staying out all night?
This could be the moment for the Biggest celebration The world has ever known all right
It's you and me and the world is free because Something's happening
We wanna be in the energy because Something's happening Something's happening
We hear the beat Of many generations And on the street A sense of joy is nearing Step by step the music takes us Where we want to be Painting vivid colors of delight
Add a little magic to this Joyous jubilation Open up your arms enjoy the night
It's you and me and the world is free because Something's happening
We wanna be in the energy because Something's happening Something's happening

The tide is rising and the sun's fading fast An endless stream of consciousness running past There's no one here There's no one here It's just me Then effortlessly Currents warmly ferry me on out to the sea
I've drifted far away from the nearest land Take one big breath and hold it as long as I can I close me eyes I close me eyes I can see So delicately Color, texture, shapes and forms Swim all around me All around me
Diving in a sea of light Surrounded by a luminescence In the dark of night Diving in a sea of light Another world's inviting me to stay Yeah Just a bit longer Then I'll come up for air
Amidst the silence I can hear now and then Familiar voices welcoming me back again I'm not alone I'm not alone Soon I'll be Again peacefully Head above the waves and back to reality Now I'm feeling so free...
Diving in a sea of light Surrounded by a luminescence In the dark of night Diving in a sea of light Another world's inviting me to stay Yeah Just a bit longer Then I'll come up for air
I'm diving in a beautiful sea of light

Any day now She's gonna break your heart and end it Unexpected Your life will change in just one minute Any day you're really really really really gonna get it
She will tell you That you've been treating her so badly It doesn't matter Now that she used to love you madly Any day you're really really really really gonna get it
She will change her phone She'll change her locks She'll even change her e-mail Instead of fall in love She'd rather leave than be left All alone
Any day now She'll casually announce she's leaving Or if you're lucky She'll leave a note while you are sleeping Any day you're really really really really gonna get it
Let me tell you That if you let her go I'd choose her And I'll show you Just what a fool you were to lose her Any day you're really really really really gonna get it
Any day now

The surface tension mounts, I'm drawn without a trace A paper tiger in a story about face What's the time and again When I lay down the lawn I'm as soft as a flowerbed
We carry on our baggage weighs us down the drain No empty promises to bring it up again A lost causing a stir All the paints on the palette of one less ex-connoiseur The horses jockey and are spurred on for the win
If you want to take me out I will be there You can even take me home for an affair If you want to waste my time Then I don't care Oooo... do you? Oooo... do you?
The rotten underbelly buttons up his shirt He under estimates the power of a skirt Under the moonlights with men She promises she won't break those promises again
A tumble dryer sense of humorless is more When mother nature calls long distance troubadour There's a game to be won But I wonder if gaming the system is all or none Without a color commentary or a score
If you want to take me out I will be there You can even take me home for an affair If you want to waste my time Then I don't care Oooo... do you? Oooo... do you?

Another love affair Another love affair Another love affair to remember
Here am I thinking over All the wonderful things you say and do And you know, I’ve discovered That your love always comes and goes But these passionate ebbs and flows Make me try even harder to make you love me
Another love affair Another love affair Another love affair to remember
Now you say that you’re leaving Well I want to believe you’ll change your mind And I know that you’re feeling That it’s too late to start again So if this really is the end Well there is no doubt that you will always be
Another love affair Another love affair Another love affair to remember
I’ve always wanted to find true love And when I wonder if it’s you Although there are some things I do love: Are you there when I most need you? Do you care that I care for you? Is it possible that you feel the same way too?
Another love affair Another love affair Another love affair to remember Another love affair Another love affair Another love affair to remember Another love affair Another love affair Another love affair Now it’s over

I love when you try on the clothes you wore back when we met Lying on the floor – breathe in a little more You’re still the girl I fell in love with, minus the belt
Remember whenever we used to stay out all night long drinking or something? Laugh at everything! Why do our friends no longer want to go out these days?
So here we are And so far I don’t feel the years have passed as quickly as they have I don’t think we’ve changed at all Turn a page, act your age – we don’t need to hear such nonsense That is the elephant in the room
So someday we might say let’s stay at home and watch TV Maybe we could cook, curl up with a book That doesn’t mean we’re slowing down we just want a change
I’ve known you for so long I forget just what it’s like to be a single man I was much younger then! How bizarre…
Here we are And so far I don’t feel the years have passed as quickly as they have I don’t think we’ve changed at all Turn a page, act your age – we don’t need to hear such nonsense That is the elephant in the room

You got me feeling like I’m feeling again You got me thinking that you’re not quite the same You got me hoping that it’s you at my door The door is open but I don’t know what for Well, I don’t want to count you out No, not yet
Expecting something I expected before I really want you but I really want more Although it looked like our affair wouldn’t last I’ll try to put all our mistakes in the past Cause I don’t want to count you out No, not yet
All I want is someone More or less Not unlike you here Yes, I’m vague Because I still hesitate To be so clear All I want is someone More or less Not unlike you here Yes, I’m vague Because I still hesitate To be so clear
I always wanted to see you as you are But you’re so distant or can’t I see so far If time will tell I wonder what would it say If we together were to get back today Yes, I don’t want to count you out No, not yet I don’t want to count you out No, not yet I don’t want to count you out No, not yet I don’t want to count you out No, not yet

Near or far I search for him We’re two of a kind In heart and mind Yet it seems He’ll never know me He’ll never know me And I, I will never know him
I believe in destiny But I wonder when Just now and then Could it be He’ll never know me He’ll never know me And I, I will never know him He’ll never know me He’ll never know me And I, I will never know him
I have an explanation For this deep infatuation I have met him many times before We’ve expressed our admiration And had lengthy conversations In my dreams In my dreams
He’ll never know me He’ll never know me And I, I will never know him
Here I am where I began Am I closer now I’m not sure how When it seems He’ll never know me He’ll never know me And I, I will never know him He’ll never know me He’ll never know me And I, I will never Not really ever No, I will never know him

I left my schedule wide open. I had some time on my hands. Such is a moment like this that one can’t let it slip away, and so without delay I take a trip out to her place. Memories of our romance, which make me smile after such a long while, passing here and there. Yes, we made quite a pair – killing time.
I park the car round the corner and toward her window I glance briefly before I walk up to the door with a big surprise. If you could see her eyes! She was quite happy to see me and before our discussion ends she and I drive out to the ocean side where we used to park long after it was dark – killing time.
I said I still can’t forgive her for sleeping with two of my friends. I held her under the water and then let her drift away. We had no more to say.
I know you’re probably thinking, have you just heard me confess? Maybe you have but then maybe you haven’t – it’s just a song – and has been all along.
Killing time.

She is another world All the other worlds Long to be
She has an innocence Which in every sense She brings to me
If the world should stop revolving I’d be the last to know I am oblivious, I am oblivious I’m unaware And I just don’t care For I am delirious Oblivious
She is the candle light In the dead of night Beckoning
We have a love we know Will forever grow Unwavering
If the oceans boiled over I’d be the last to know I am oblivious, I am oblivious I’m unaware And I just don’t care For I am delirious Oblivious

Whatever happened to the innocence Known by the child who once was me? For far too long It’s all gone wrong I am longing for a sea of tranquility
Never before Have I looked at the moon And felt so sure I want to live there I want nothing more, like never before
I really need to get a break from here Start my life over far away Where there’s plenty of space And no rat race And the skies are not cloudy all day
Never before Have I looked at the moon And felt so sure I want to live there I want nothing more, like never before, like never before
We’ll build a house for two Then sit out front enjoy the view, And have a drink with friends sometimes And when we take a holiday we’ve got all of the milky way to do
I’ve got no problem with the gravity On earth things tend to weigh me down Cast the anchors away We’re leaving today Maybe someday we’ll see you around
Never before Have I looked at the moon And felt so sure I want to live there I want nothing more, like never before Like never before, like never before

Yesterday I was happy as I could be Everything in my life was so complete And then a dark cloud appears A dry spell for so many years I couldn’t write a song to save my life
Starting today Words came back to me Starting today I’ve got melody Starting today I can sing again Starting today
Long ago I was poor, sad and insecure Writing songs was an outlet if not a cure You know, how they always say A tortured artist stays that way But things turned for the better in my life
Starting today Words came back to me Starting today I’ve got melody Starting today I can sing again Starting today
Today I crashed my car and I killed some guy Now I’m anguished and depressed and that’s what I needed to get outta this slump
Inspiration is endless it’s all around I am dancing and music is pouring out Inside, I am torn apart A stabbing pain inside my heart This day will haunt me for the rest of my life
Starting today Words came back to me Starting today I’ve got melody Starting today I can sing again Starting today

There’s something about the girl that makes me laugh There’s something about the girl that makes me cry There’s never a halfway She’s either night or day I’m long past wondering why I never sleep if I try
There’s something that she says from time to time A cross between a threat and a guarantee "You’ll never ever find Who loves you more than I That’s why you’ll always love me" I guess I won’t disagree
She is a lovely princess from a fairy tale Her Royal Highness and I take a stroll through the garden for tea When the wicked witch appears To cast a spell on me I have to try to charm her Kisses and flowers disarm her Love is no fairy tale at all
There’s something about the girl I’ll never know There’s something about the girl I can’t explain She’s positively fine And she’s absolutely mine You’ll never hear me complain Although she’s sometimes a pain
There’s something about the girl There’s something about the girl

Who am I to go everywhere you want to be? Who am I to hold on when you want to be free? Yeah, who am I?
Who am I to stay with you the rest of your life? Who am I to decide what is wrong and what’s right? Yeah, who am I?
I occupy your mind And often times you do ignore me Then you see How much you need me How much you need me again
Who am I to watch out for you when you can’t see? Who am I to take over whenever you need? Yeah, who am I?
Who am I to be telling you what you should do? Who am I to repeat what you already knew? Yeah, who am I?
I occupy your mind And often times you do ignore me Then you see How much you need me again Who am I?

When I was 12 I found a magazine Under my parent’s bed With girls with hardly any clothes Some naked
And so began my life of fantasy I didn’t know That I would end up all alone So unfulfilled, heart like a stone The only girls I’d ever known Had never met me And I didn’t give a damn
At some point I discovered DVDs I tried my hand at it Most of the girls were silicone And shaven
The TV screen was the reality I only knew Where my remote was my best friend I could fast forward to the end Then close my eyes and just pretend That for that moment I’ve never been such a stud
No no no no no no What would I ever do without my porn? Don’t go go go What would I ever do? I really need something!
These days I download almost everything And it’s unlimited The girls are mostly still the same Some Asian
Now recently it’s all the same to me And pretty dull It’s not so hard anymore I think I must be getting bored Because I’ve seen it all before So what’s the next thing If internet porn is dead?
No no no no no no What am I gonna do without my porn? Don’t go go go What am I gonna do? I really need something!
No no no no no no What am I gonna do without my porn? Don’t go go go What am I gonna do? I really need something...
